Valo487 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 When did Mr. Sinister become a 90's action star?
Onyx_6 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Cool? I have no idea what this property is. I will still pick up the mates, though.
karamazov80 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Whippersnappers don't even remember Valiant Comics. C'mon Solar, Man of the Atom, Turok the Dinosaur Hunter, and Magnus the Mother Sniffing Robot Fighter
Zexion_Armando Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 The only reason I know Valiant comics is through Doctor Spektor, since he made references to all their properties in his first issue.
stack32 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Whippersnappers don't even remember Valiant Comics. C'mon Solar, Man of the Atom, Turok the Dinosaur Hunter, and Magnus the Mother Sniffing Robot Fighter If Wikipedia is correct Valiant doesn't own those characters anymore. That's too bad; I'd definitely be in for Magnus and a bunch of robots. Edited October 10, 2014 by stack32
hellpop Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Valiant was the company started by Jim Shooter after he was fired by Marvel. He (and his successor, Bob Layton) built a company that looked primed to be a real challenger to Marvel and DC. Some people at the time even thought that Valiant would outlast Image, since it was built on a foundation of solid storytelling. But, eventually, the bubble burst, and Valiant ended up disappearing. Their characters (minus Solar, Magnus, and Turok, whom were licensed from Gold Key) were eventually bought, and a few years ago the new Valiant launched. The comics are pretty good, as were the originals; I can't recommend Barry Winsor-Smith's Acher and Armstrong highly enough. Really excited for these!
Mnemosis Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 X-O Manowar relaunched with an augmented reality cover whereupon you could place your smart phone over the main character's mouth and watch him talk. I could never get past the name.

Lobsterman Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I'd love to see an Archer and Armstrong set. It's interesting these launched as a two pack rather than four, if it is just a trial balloon and not a "preview pack" of an ongoing line. A sculpted wraparound vest and boots and gloves would have been cool for XO. Might have to mod that up myself... Edited October 10, 2014 by Lobsterman
hellpop Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Yeah, kinda surprised they went tampo rather then sculpted.
ElGallo21 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 TUROK! Whippersnappers don't even remember Valiant Comics. Dammit... should have kept reading before I got my hopes up... I'm still looking forward to getting Valiant mates
MisterMiracle Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I'm kinda sorta familiar with Valiant but I never got into it. I remember a Iron Man/X-O Manowar video game for the original Playstation that was pretty terrible.
Kostisfire Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Yeah, kinda surprised they went tampo rather then sculpted. Maybe since it's a preview pack they tried not to use newly sculpted parts. Besides, X-O is Valiant's most high profile character, so if it does turn into an ongoing line I bet we'll see more versions.
Prowlar Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 While it is unfortunate that Magnus and Turok, currently under the Dynamite Entertainment label, are probably out at least I might be able to look forward to Rai and Eternal Warrior mates.

I'm just surprised because Chuck has said several times in the past that tampos cost more than sculpted parts. I guess, since they were going to have to do a lot for him anyway, with all those crazy little lines on his under armor, they just decided to do the whole thing.

But upon reading some othe X-O comics, the suit is more of a "tight fit", so maybe they went with just prints so as for it not to seem bulky. Edited October 10, 2014 by Kostisfire
Shanester Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I read Harbinger and I really like it, but I am only about half way through it.
arnim zola Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 That dudes cheddar cheese sword is pretty cool
Shogi Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 The only thing I really remember about Valiant is Valiant Vision. 3-D comics that were normal, full color books and glasses that were clear, I loved that idea and the effect worked rather well with the Solar comic I got with the glasses.
Lobsterman Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 I'm curious why they went with a two pack instead of a four. Valiant seems like a "one and done" kind of property like Invincible or Thief of Thieves. I'm not sure if a two pack says DST thinks Valiant has legs for maybe a full wave, of if they're not even confident a four pack can move and need a lower price point...
hellpop Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I've wondered the same thing. Unfortunately, I don't know how many real high profile characters they have without Solar, Magnus, and Turok. I'd really like to see Archer and Armstrong, myself, but I don't know how many others I want beyond X-O. But it doesn't seem that they are all that committed. Crazy to me that Grimm's Fairy Tales gets a full box set and Valiant just a two pack. Edited October 27, 2014 by hellpop
