luke314pi
In related news, Kickstarter just implemented a new policy that new campaigns can no longer have bulk retailer rewards (like the Agent 88 promo Minimates). It sounds like the Agent 88 campaign will be both the first and last time we can get large quantity Minimate rewards for stores like ours, like the Minimate ninjas which we are hoping to be able to reveal soon. boyd
Update on the new Kickstarter policy - they've decided to allow bulk rewards of 10 items of less. Great if you want to use the express checkout, but crappy when you're dealing in Minimates.
Lobsterman
I hope there are a few more associate producers waiting to swoop in at the last minute, because $60,000 in 5 days is looking a bit bleak.

luke314pi
The project is now over halfway funded! Digger and Jan added a bunch of new rewards. No new Minimate rewards, but there is some cool original artwork, and also this: It sounds like we won't be able to reveal the design of our Ninja Minimates before the campaign ends, but trust me, they are very cool. We will be able to sell them in our store for $6 each, so it will be very easy for you to build up an army of ninjas. But the only way they will be made is if the kickstarter campaign is funded. 4 days left!

Lobsterman
Did we see the Heavy Metal logo blanks? BHM, I think you're just going to need to write a big check and tell Digger to give you one of every Minimate associated with this project... DSTZach
Went on the Kickstarter the other day and was surprised to see that only 28 of the Agent 88 Minimates have been taken. Did everyone else who wants one get one through another source (eBay, etc.), or are people balking at the $18 price? Or is that really the extent of people who want that Minimate? The uproar seemed much louder when the news of it broke, but I guess it was a vocal minority. Wish there were other Minimate retailers of Luke's prestige to take the other Agent 88 Minimates. I'd love a Heavy Metal Minimate, but it doesn't look like anyone has snapped them up, either.
AdyCarter
I think part of it is the fact that certain Kickstarters become almost self defeating Zach, the project looks unlikely to hit its goal, so people don't back, because people don't back it looks unlikely to meets its goal and so on. You can bet your ass that if they were put up on a site for "sale" more than 28 would sell, even if it is for a license people don't really know much about. (That and KS only lets you back once per project)
TBT!
I think the problems is that we as a group aren't excited by agent 88 minimates because it's not something we care about (yet?) and $18 very nearly buys a cool Thundercats or Alpha Flight 4 pack of characters we love. Factor in the timing which coincides with the expensive minimate month of July (SDDC exclusives) which is probably hurting them too. I wish Digger all the best but I think he totally misread the minimate fan base on this one. T.
luke314pi
The Heavy Metal hot pink exclusive has been picked up by another retailer, so at least one Heavy Metal promo will be available. Even if you aren't excited by the Agent 88 character minimates, I think the promos look very cool. By the end of the year we could have our very first flesh colored blank, hot pink blank, and single packed black ninjas, not to mention any other colors that get picked up before the end of the campaign. If it gets funded, Minimates in general are going to get a lot of promotion from this, which is good for all Minimate lines.

I would have thought a new series of character Minimates would have gotten a lot of interest, to be honest, but maybe it is a question of not knowing the property. The blanks are a separate story, Digger put those up because he saw you guys were hungry for them and because he had some to offer. I was surprised at how that hunger and tooth-gnashing translated to 28 sales. I guess that's pretty good, but I was ready for them to sell out fast. Digger, can we see some rough footage from the show? Any fighting or dialogue aside from the snippet in the BTS?

I'd love a Heavy Metal Minimate, but it doesn't look like anyone has snapped them up, either. The price is one factor for me, but the other factor is I want to get something for my money. Any successful kickstarters that I watched soar past their goals really rewarded people for being involved, and the pledge tier rewards included lesser tier rewards with the higher ones, even when it is something a small as a website thank you. I think the mates will be awesome, and the webshow could be pretty cool, but there's no value to the rewards, just a shiny gimmick. Offer me exclusive access to the episode before it goes live. Offer me exclusive content. Offer me a code to watch it for free on my PS3 or itunes. Don't make all your rewards really wordy; it keeps me from getting confused and lost in all the shiny gimmicks. If you're going to offer minimates, offer them at a reasonable price, especially if the promos were being handed out for free at the SDCC event. I hope this goes through as I really want to buy ninjas, and any of the mates that end up going to retail, from Luke.

First time I've heard Minimates called a "shiny gimmick" on these boards. Aren't they a tangible reward in most of the packages? I'd rather get a cool toy or eight than get to see the episode a week early, but that's just me. No matter how they were originally given out (and I realize some people take issue with it), Digger could get a lot more than $18 for the promos on eBay. He's practically throwing them in free if you pledge at the digital bundle level -- which includes a digital download, I notice. I personally went for the Digger/blood-drenched Agent 88 two-pack pledge level. I needs me a Digger Minimate. That way, when he calls me on the weekend I can have the Hulk do horrible things to him. MsMarvel fan
If I'm going to drop $108 on minimates, there's a few holes in my collection I'd rather fill than pledge for 10 minimates considering my only interest in pledging would be for the mates (shiny gimmick) for a property that would end up as fodder for customs like most for the non-marvel mates that I buy. That's only my buying habit though, and there are collectors who would be enticed by completionist needs, or love for blanks, or always having wanted a digger mate, there's no interest from me to pledge, even if early access to the episodes was an option. I wish him luck, I just wanted to offer why I wasn't willing to drop $18, $38 or $108 for these mates.
Heroic Slacker
I really want one of those Heavy Metal 'mates, I don't think the Kickstarter will be funded though sadly, if I wasn't so busy trying to catch up on all the recent minimates I would pledge. Digger is someone who I can relate to not only because he is the father of minimates but I'm chatted to him on a few occasions. Zach I don't think we are downing on the project, just sharing our thoughts on why we think it's not setting the world on fire in here. T. Hey, I'm not trying to keep anyone from downing on the project! Down away. Just trying to get discussion going that might help it along towards its goals. That said, if you don't really collect non-Marvel Minimates, and only buy other Minimates for parts, yeah, I can maybe possibly see why you might not be enticed to pledge. One of the main reasons I made my pledge was so we could get Luke's three 'Mates (and the pink Heavy Metal 'Mate) made -- I know you guys would get some good use out of them. Helping Digger, seeing the finished episode and getting a little Digger were icing. Wish I could have pledged more.
Nessex
Well - i'm in for as much as i could afford right about now. I've gone for the Everything heavy Metal / Everything Minimates package. Would have loved to have splurged a bit more, but i'm at the end of my trip my bank balance is really looking slight these days. I know there's not long left to go - but with one huge final push, this project might just make it. Fingers Crossed, guys!
buttheadsmate
I delete just about everything I write for this thread.....probably for the best. Here goes...... Each day I sit down ,log onto the Agent 88 site & try & decide which package will give me all the Minimates offered......I haven't felt so old in a very long time . Another day another Minimate. It's like I'm being offered a parachute for the maiden voyage of the Titanic. I also keep asking myself what is the profit margin on 500 Minimates that sell for $1508 ? How much will go to funding this project after production costs have been paid ? None of my beeswax ? It is if I'm going to get aboard. Apparently 400 VIPs went to that SDCC shindig ......why didn't someone go around with a cash-bucket ? If each of those Very Important (rich) People had chucked in $220 then we wouldn't be where we are today , I know of at least one VIP who has sold 10 Gold Vorins & 2 Agent 88's on ebay so maybe ask her for a donation. MMMVers like their ol'wish lists but this is the wish list to end all wish lists . Edited August 6, 2012 by buttheadsmate

MMMVers like their ol'wish lists but this is the wish list to end all wish lists . I can tell you that the profit margin on Minimates is fairly low. Even with these blanks, it's not like Digger is gonna be clearing a LOT of money on these guys. But every little bit helps, and it will get him a big step towards his Kickstarter goal. Not that I'm telling anyone to buy anything, just explaining why it's even an option on the site. And I'm pretty sure the reason Digger is as far along as he is is because people at that event took an interest in his project, and because he talked to a lot of people about it that night. Which was the point! I don't know who that eBay VIP is, but she either raided her friends' goodie bags or raided the box of leftovers that was sitting around after the bags were filled. Not ideal, but a drop in the bucket compared to how many went into people's hands.
