fwoosheyman
Love all the extras that come in these sets. This really shows what a great job DST is doing. Everyone else is raising prices a lot and also cutting back on accessories, articulation, etc, but with minimates, I feel we actually get more for our money than ever before. The quality is still good, the paint is still high quality and now we gets tons of extra parts with only a minimal price increase and the loss of side tampos over time. Bob Harris
I love those in package shots. Well done and thanks a lot, Zach!
boyd
Thanks for the in-tray shots, Zach. And the box shots. Very bright and colorful - should stand out on the shelves.
hellpop
Y'know. There's something about the heavy use of photoshop in the production photos that make me uninterested in various Minimate waves. However, as soon as I see the Minimates in-tray/in-box, I'm always excited about every single one. Such is the case here - seeing these guys online in those photos, I was all "meh". But now, in tray... Boy oh boy. That Iron Man is really awesome! And Caps metal shield is sick. Thor is whatever, but Hawkeye, the Grim Reaper, and Kang all make up for him. I really think Thor is the only one in those 8 I'm NOT excited to get now. Totally agree. Time and time again, even if I'm not particularly excited by a group or a figure when the first shots come out, by the time we see package shots I'm almost always more excited. These all look great together, and I cannot wait to rip those packages open. Well said, Fwooshey. Minimates are still a bargain, and I never feel like I'm getting ripped off when I buy 'em, unlike with some other toylines.
Mystery Man
I'm the same way with seeing the photoshopped pics vs. the packaged ones. I'm even excited for that Cap so I can do some more cutting on his boot cuffs to make a couple extra "foot moving" versions for myself. Yaaay! Awesome teleportation stand and sci-fi guns for Kang! And in basic basic purple too! And Hulk has the "new" hands too and Even the old broken concrete piece makes a reappearance. These sets look fantastic and I seem to desire them more and more every time I get online. Thanks for the photos sir. I know this is off-topic Zach, but I was looking through an old thread and saw a quote from you about how awesome the AFX and SDCC sets were going to be. Mattel announced what they were offering today, do you know when we'll find out what DST's got in store for us? I know Chuck likes to announce closer to the event, so probably not for another month or so. But I'll see if he'd like to mix it up this year. We have a bunch, and they're all pretty cool. Not all of them are ready yet, though. Maybe he'll let me stagger them out, announce a new one every week. We'll see. I know people like to know what they need to track down. For budgeting concerns, that'd be really neat if possible. If not, it's understandable for wanting to keep stuff hush-hush. hellpop
Hey Zach what is the grey think next to Hulk? Thanks It's a slab of rock that also came with She-Hulk (I think).
Zak Katz
I've never seen it before, is it like Spencer's stand from MvC3? Or is it just....there?
Zak Katz
Sorry to double post but whats up with Giant Mans face? His mouth looks way too low IMO
Mystery Man
Hey Zach what is the grey think next to Hulk? Thanks It's a slab of rock that also came with She-Hulk (I think). I was wrong, it didn't come with She-Hulk. I forget who it came with, but it's been released once before. I was thinking a BSG character, but I really don't recall offhand. It's been several years since it made that appearance, though, I know that.
hellpop
As zakkatz pointed out to me in a PM, it came with Deanna/Sharon BSG set (I believe it's the rock Sharon used to crush Deanna's head. Gross, right?). She-Hulk came with that lead pipe she can't even hold, AKA the worst Minimate accessory ever.
MINI_MYTE
Hey Zach what is the grey think next to Hulk? Thanks It's a slab of rock that also came with She-Hulk (I think). The slab originally came with this BSG set.
Zak Katz
Is the slab even going to fit in the Hulk's NEWER open hands?
TM2 Dinobot
Nope. Not really a way to make Minimate hands hold it at all. It's about 1/3rd" thick.
karamazov80
I didn't notice that Hulk came with that piece of rock
Mnemosis
Dear Zach - If you ever need a liver, kidney, brain, heart, baby, place to stay in Indianapolis, tesseract cube, soul to sacrifice to Mephisto, coupon for Red Burrito, etc... Let me know. You're a prince among men, sir. These two box sets have, in the past two days, gone from "meh" to "WOW" for me. You even prompted me to strip off Arnim Zola Cap's leather jacket and offer it up to Iron Man 2's Black Widow - along with my spare Rachel Grey hairpiece - to create '90s Black Widow. The result is way off from perfect, but it's certainly workable, and it's not even a look I LIKE for the character. It just seems "right" to go alongside the rest of the roster. http://www.forevergeek.com/wp-content/media/2012/04/Black-Widow-2.jpg
karamazov80
The early 1990s was a time where everyone enjoyed wearing an excessive jacket over their leotards--Rogue, Cyclops, Gambit, Cap, Black Widow, Thunderstrike, etc. Good times. Just doing my job, although doing it in my spare time. And that's my favorite Widow look! With or without the jacket. I dig the short hair. Anybody come with a grey bodysuit? youbastards
I made a custom of that costume last year, hoping we get an official release though!
hellpop
Frank Miller designed that look, back in his Daredevil days. I always preferred that look, and never understood why they went back to the other one.
nate_studio
Those packaging shots are amazing! So much stuff! These look so much better than the promo images. If I'm not excited for a mate in these box sets, I'm at least excited for one of their accessories. Oh and I would be a fan of you revealing a new mate each week leading up to a convention. Always nice to know what to budget for and exciting to see who is coming up.
Mystery Man
Question for Zach re: this Captain America: Looks like the same color blue as the one in Series 42. I was wondering if the paint on the upper arm rubs off if it gets lightly scratched with a finger nail? I thought the first one I had was a fluke, but it was the same for the other 3 that I bought from that series and was wondering if I maybe just had a bad batch of 'em or what? I ask in this thread since I'm hoping to replace lots of those Cap arms with these. Thanks for any info you can provide!

If I still had that Cap sample (or fingernails) I'd scratch him for you. Sorry the paint came off. I thought all you guys wore white gloves when handling your Minimates? ...that is my new goal in life. To get that made or to make my own. Might use Wolfsbane's hair, drybrushed, and minus the braid. Anyone got a spare? 'Great custom, man.
youbastards
Thanks! How about I just make you one? I still have the decal design and I do have a spare Wolfsbane hairpiece. I've been in a customizing slump for a few months, so that might help me get back in the game for Charitymates and the Battle Beast contest (just entering for fun). Have you made any customs?
