groundhog7s
It's starting to smell a little like Angel-gate around here...
karamazov80
I just checked the Diamond retailer page again, and it has been changed to state that Modern Mandarin is the variant... Huh. That makes little sense to me.
boyd
Modern Mandarin is the variant? The version that people might actually recognize or are familiar with? Wow - that seems backward to me.
luke314pi
Luke, I hope that doesn't screw up your pre-orders too badly. The ones I ordered from your store are for the Dreadnaughts, so I don't care which Mandarin I get. It definitely throws a wrench in the works. I will be able to fill most of the orders correctly, and hopefully I will have a few more customers like yourself who are mostly looking to army build. I just hope I don't lose any customers like I did with the angel switch-up.
groundhog7s
It's sad to think you lost customers over DST's poor QC, especially when they weren't even aware of it until asked about it.
TENIME_art
GD-it. I think the Classic Mandarin not only looks stupid, but I could get more custom use out of some of Modern Mandarin's parts (like the shirtless torso) if I ended up with a bunch from troop building. youbastards
I just noticed that the 'shirtless' version they show has green hands, while the 'robed' shows flesh hands? Maybe that version includes multiple hands? More accessories = more $$$ to produce = variant? The 'classic' version doesn't appear to have rings at all? Minus the swearing, these were my thoughts exactly. Next to the Phoenix base, it was going to be one of the best troop builder pack-ins to date. Turtle
Yowzers. DST really needs to do something about these factory mishaps. Although, if a Chinese factory were going to mess up any set, it seems like this is an appropriate choice.
boyd
Is this a new game we can play with Minimates? Diamond announces two figures that could be the variant, and we have to guess which one it will be when they're released?
Lobsterman
Yeah, it's getting a little tiresome. It was especially bad with the Angel fiasco – telling us they changed it specifically because of fan requests, then doing the exact opposite – but this is almost as annoying. Definitely a question for Chuck at the SDCC panel...
buttheadsmate
I'm not sure whether Chuck will be able to find San Diego by himself......
Mystery Man
I want Dreadnoughts too, but as a silver age Marvel fan I really want that original Mandarin more.
MST3KFan
I just ordered wave 36 off Sci-Fi Genre, which has them saying 'In Stock' already. Hopefully get the Modern Mandarin as I don't really want the classic and don't need to army build Dreadnought as I'm not super familiar with the character. Still way cheaper on Sci-Fi Genre even then BBTS has the Mates, which is nice since I've bought from them a number of times as well. Also, why change the variants now? They already had pics in package with the classic mandarin clearly saying 'VARIANT' on the side of the package.

Mystery Man
Comic shop near me got these today and are holding all the sets I want for me to get Saturday. They say that the classic Mandarin is marked as the variant.

I'm assuming that's the case here.
boyd
With all this confusion, I think the only logical course of action is to buy every Mandarin you see. Odds are that some of them will be the variant. Edited June 22, 2010 by boyd

handsomedevil
What a joke! Get a handle on your people, DST! I think DST's corporate translater should be fired!
CaptainChunk
Didn't this just happen with the Happy/Drone vs Pepper/Drone packs from Wave 35 too?

I don't think it was ever officially acknowledged, but I can attest to finding 5 Happy Hogan packs in the wild, and only 1 Pepper Potts. TBT!
Shouldn't we wait till someone actually has these in hand and confirms the switch before we break out the pitchforks? T.
