Charitymates 5: Fighting for Japan

Recommended Posts

Ninjas will do not all look the same for one. Also, skill comes into effect. Not everyone has the skill/sculpting to make a unique monster. Someone could use parts from ghostbusters per say, but that's just a repainted ghostbuster figure. With ninjas, you can make something totally unique within any skill limit.

Besides that, those of us who might have a limited amount of parts can make a ninja

easily with a "blank" minimate if needed.

I'm thinking of possibly making a ninja, though not your traditional all black ninja...hm...

Can I voice my concern about just ninjas? If the point of this is to raise money, can just different types of ninjas catch enough attention to bring in high bids? I'm just asking the question.

What of making it a tournament fight theme? Each custom could be a character with different reasons for fighting (similar to just about any fighting game). That could give a common thread to all of the characters and maybe bring a little more depth than just saying it's ninjas for charity. If we can learn anything from the alternate reality contest it's that members here are very creative with the backstories of their customs and that would fit with a tournament theme perfectly. And, of course, ninjas are always welcome in those typs of games.

Also, a tournament theme could be a way to pair up 2 Minimates per auction, either multiple entries by one member or a collaboration between two (like 'Steampunk Ninja vs. School Girl Ninja' or something).

I really like that idea groundhog. I entered a similar contest at hisstank w/ gi joe customs, and it was a blast.

Also, i'm trying to add a poll but it's not showing up. Is there something I have to do to enable it other than add the title/choices?

I'm still of the opinion that simply going with ninjas is too limited. Do a google search for ninja and if you filter out any turtles and motorcycles that show up, most of what you see is someone in black pajamas with a mask.

I can get behind some tournament fighter type theme though, since at least you get more options and more room for imagination.

i understand that the steriotpyical ninja is a guy in black pj's. but the idea behind these events is to do things that arnt steriotypical, for the monsters one we saw fresh new looks at our favorite monsters, for the animal one we saw a bounty of new and interesting ideas and for the robot one we saw some incredibly creations that really pushed boundaries. i would think after seeing lukes decal pack atleast everyone here should know that ninjas dont have to all look alike

Perhaps a tournament could be envisaged whereby 'International Warriors through the ages' (ITWTTA) were invited to Tokyo to fight a specialised team of Ninja . This arrangement would by necessity require equal factions ....same amount of Ninja with the same amount of warriors . I'm not sure how many entrants there generally are in a Charity contest but if the numbers aren't equal .....who gives a stuff? The specialised Ninja would be completely 'free' ,no restrictions, except that they would have to be obviously 'Ninja' ....now I'm no expert on Ninjas but if they fail in this respect they become an 'IWTTA' & no moaning ....which shouldn't be too controversial? The ITWTTAs would also be free ,no restrictions, except that it would be unlikely that they all would be Japanese so a good smattering of foreigners (what's that weird word the Samurai call foreigners....I forget ?) & nobody said that they had to be human ;) I can't see any reason why there would be any restriction on how many entries per member but I suggest ONLY one of each if people are keen because there's always somebody who wants to make more than one!

For personal reasons I never entered or bought anything last year but I generally do & as a buyer I have to say, that although Ninja are an OK idea, I personally wouldn't be buying multiples of Ninja on ebay out of choice . If we're sincere about the motives for this, which I'm sure we are, we need to make some money by making the characters broadly interesting.

Note to TM2.....miss out the big words. :D

edit: ninja pl.

Uh, I'm in charge this year and I say the theme is 'Golden Girls Throughout the Ages'.

And, of course, I call dibs on nude Bea Arthur.

I think youbastards was there first .....one blank, a head ,a hairpiece & careful hand with a sharpie.

remember folks... the plural of Ninja is Ninja

I knew that :whistling:

And I think I still have some of the flocking I used on my Man-Thing custom, now to find the bleach...

As to the topic of Charitymates, why not a more general category like 'Villains'. The theme could be something along the lines of "Disasters bring out the good in everyone"?

They could range anywhere from super-villains, bank robbers, Ninja, Mafia, Yakuza, Kubrick Collectors, TRU Wave 10 scalpers ;), etc. This would still allow for a theme, but still have flexibility for creativity and variety.

I agree that strictly 'ninja' customs would limit the overall appeal of the project but I also think 'Japanese-inspired' might be too broad.

I can run it again if no one has any objections.

Thanks Luke! Glad to see the project lives on!

And as for a project name (going with the tournament idea): Charitymates 5: Fighting for Japan
