Some new additions:

Arnim Zola

arnimzola.jpg

He was alot of fun to paint. I decided to do his modern colors, as opposed to the blinding orange and purple costume he used to wear. The head is just some random piece I found in my junk drawer, with the lens sculpted on. The sleeves are also sculpted.

Onslaught

I traded away my old 2.5" Onslaught a while back, so I wanted a new one. This one is 3" with a 2.5" head. Some of the armor is sculpted, some is from Sauron, and some is from Archangel's wings. I liked how the old 5" Onslaught figure from Toy Biz had Professor X looking out the back, so I wanted to do the same thing on the minimate.

The Watcher:

Here is another update to an older custom of mine. This one is 2.5" with a 3" head. The sash is sculpted and the collar is cut from a sheet of plastic.

Really like your Arnim Zola, especially the details on the face. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't make a new one...

I also like your Watcher custom. Did you have any problems with getting the 3" head to fit on the 2.5" neck? When I've tried, the 3" head hole is a little too big to fit snugly on the smaller neck - there's a point where they hold on well to the neck, but try to move the head and they just slip off.

Thanks guys! :D

I cut the neck joints off a 2.5" mate and a 3" one and swapped them for Onslaught and the Watcher so their heads would keep their normal articulation. I just used superglue to attach them. They are definitely more fragile than having the original neck joints, but I won't be playing rough with these guys. :)

Thanks for letting me know. That's the obvious answer and it never occurred to me...

Here is a set of customs for myself that I have been working on for a few weeks now. They are all from the pages of Thor, although some of them have appeared in other comics as well.

Ymir the Frost Giant:

This 3" monster has a club made from Super Sculpey. His spikes were sculpted with Apoxie Sculpt, and then sharpened on my belt sander.

Surtur:

surtur.jpg

Although he was made from a 3" mate, Surtur is closer to 4" with the fire on his head. Everything was sculpted in Apoxie Sculpt. The hilt of his sword is a lego. The tail has a wire running through it for strength and stability.

Destroyer:

I wish I had my decal paper two weeks ago, because all this line work was a pain in the butt! I kept screwing up a line, and I would have to touch it up with a toothpick and re-draw the line later. The head decoration was cut from sheet plastic.

Odin:

I struggled alot with the design of this one. I repainted him completely twice. I kept bouncing back and forth between too much detail and not enough detail. I'm still not completely happy with him, but I will call it good for now. The helmet is a modified Loki helmet, and the armor is from Apocalypse. The beard and part of the armor is Apoxie Sculpt. The spear is combined from a few legos and random pieces of plastic.

The Warriors Three - Hogun, Volstagg, and Fandral:

Hogun's shoulder cape is modified from Mysterio, and his waistpiece is but from sheet plastic. I have no idea where I got his mace from. Volstagg is a 2.5" mate shortened, similar to how I did The Blob. His beard, helmet, and gut are Apoxie Sculpt. Fandral's waist piece is from Bison, and his fluffy collar and sleeves are Apoxie Sculpt. His sword is from Samwise Gamgee.

Here are a few battle scenes featuring these new mates:

I had a lot of fun making these. They now occupy a special area of my minimates shelf along with Thor and Loki. :)

Whoa! These are awesome Luke. Destroyer turned out fantastic. That line work must have driven you crazy. Odin is very detailed, nice work! Warriors Three?! I never thought I'd see them as minis. I love these, awesome job!

My first Marvel customs using decals:

Crossbones

crossbones-1.jpg

Legs and gun are from a Platoon minimate.

"Hound" Rachel Summers

rachel.jpg

Hank Pym

Head and hair are from the Avengers set.

Using decals definitely makes the process go faster, depending on the custom. I am starting to get really addicted to these! crackhead.gif

The decals definitely allow for smooth, clean lines that would be very difficult to do by hand. Those look fantastic. They look like DST prototypes, actually.

They are absolutely amazing & ought to be DST prototypes.
