luke314pi Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 As promised, a new Minimate Factory custom contest is here! Each of our contests will put your skills as a customizer to the test. In this contest, creativity is the key to winning! You will create a unique alternate universe version of an existing minimate. This must be a totally new version of the character. For example, Kingdom Come Superman would NOT be allowed, but Clown Superman From Hell would be perfectly acceptable. Here are the prizes: 1st Place: Includes: 5 x American Red Cross Promotional Minimates, 3" Art Asylum Promotional Minimate, 1 oz Aves Safety Solvent, and 1 lb Fixit Sculpt. Shamrock Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I will attempt to be in, though I have no ideas right now. Quote
Donny B Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I'm actually really interested in this one, so I will be making an attempt as well. One question, though (and I feel stupid asking, but I'd rather be sure) You will create a unique alternate universe version of an existing minimate. ... 1.) Your custom must be a new alternate universe concept of an existing character. ... 4.) The character selection is completely up to you. Taking all of that together, am I correct in assuming that I can choose any character I want, as long as it has already been released in Minimate form? So, I wouldn't be able to do an alternate version of, say, a Ninja Turtle? Quote
luke314pi Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 QUOTE (Donny B @ Feb 15 2011, 12:32 PM) Taking all of that together, am I correct in assuming that I can choose any character I want, as long as it has already been released in Minimate form? luke314pi Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 I received a PM asking if it was ok to amalgam two characters together. Yes, this is ok as long as one of them is a previously released minimate, and this amalgam has never been done before. It definitely qualifies as an alternate universe version of the character(s). Twisted Two-Face Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) Well. I guess i'm the first official entry then!! Allow me to introduce: Marvel: Regalia Captain America Steven Rogers was always the "Golden Boy." All through his childhood and into his teens, family and teachers took one look at him, and their first words were always the same: "That boy's gonna be President one day." That was, until M-day, when crazed Mutant Cultist Leader Erik Lensher attacked the Pentagon and White House, assassinating President Norman Obsorn. Some claimed government conspiracy, but for Steve Rogers, with blood as Red, White, and Blue as the flag he worshiped, it was inspiration; Steve became interested in the Army, attending, and graduating, West Point 2nd in his class to Conrad Hauser. After serving for 10 years and obtaining the rank of Captain, Steve got into politics, aligning with Senator Robert Kelly and the Anti-Mutant Campaign. As newly-elected President Graydon Creed recognized the growing Mutant threat, he launched the American Son Project; a program calling for a team of the United States Military's finest to serve as a powerhouse police force. Steve caught wind of this quickly and, missing the old days of hostile combat, left Kelly for training. The President's Cabinet and the Military's top tier officers were impressed with Steven's patriotism, physical strength, and wartime history, and thus selected him as the first of the American Sons. Taking a note from his days in the Army, Steven Rogers was handed a uniform, a pistol bearing a shield on the grip, an energy shield crafted by future fellow Son Tony Stark, and a new alias: Captain America. Prowlar Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Here's my entry. Marvel: GR (Gender Reversed) Universe Wolfsbane (Randle Talbot) Randle's life has been anything but easy. Rescued from the abuse his guardian Sister Craig by Magneto he became a founding member of the X-Factor unit known as the New Mutants. After only a few missions the Mutant Control Act was passed and the XSE (Xavier's Sentinel Enforcers) started hunting down all unregistered mutants with the X-Units at the top of the list. Defeated and on the run Moonstar and Wolfsbane retreated to the safety of Asguard. During this time he continued his training as a warrior and received the twin daggers known as the "Fangs of Fenris". Unfortunately the reprieve only lasted a few years before The False Gods Acts brought Ragnarok to Lady Thor's Realm. Moonstar chose to stand with his fellow Valkyrie. Randle was returned to Midguard on a mission to deliver the last great hammer "Skybreaker" to Erika Masterson. On his arrival in New York Randle found himself at the center of a battle between the Avengers and a mutant known as Nuke. He quickly realized that he could best help the heroes by finding the former human host of Lady Thor. Following the guidance of the hammer he was quickly able to locate Masterson. However he wasn't fast enough to stop the meltdown. They barely had time to take refuge in the deserted Morlock tunnels before New York was completely obliterated. The Superhuman Control Act was quickly passed making all individuals with greater than human abilities outlaws. Masterson, now taking the name Thunderstrike, helped Randle track down the retired Dark Damsel, Dana Whitman, and convinced her to lead a New Avengers team. Dana agreed on one condition, Randle had to lead her back through the Morlock Tunnels in order to retrieve an artifact from Ground Zero before the XSE could use it as a symbol of their growing oppression. Randle agreed and they made their way back through the tunnels. When they arrived they found XSE Sentinels being held at bay by Antonia Stark, The Iron Maiden. Damsel quickly captured Captain America's shield while Randle collected the remains of Weapon X's adamantium skeleton. They retreated before the XSE could dispatch specialized sentinel units. Eventually Dana was given a new non-cursed Ebony Blade forged by Hephaestus from Weapon X's bones, Wakandan vibranium, and an unknown "God Metal". With the addition of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Warlock the X-Avengers team was complete. Under The Dark Damsel's command with Randle as the second the war for super human survival began. Quote

TM2 Dinobot Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I am having SO MUCH TROUBLE coming up with anything for this. :/ At first I started to do Savage Land Black Cat, but then I figured "I'm the only one who cares, so why bother?" Then I started to do Dr. Neeker, but then I remembered that I have her as a custom, not an official mate. I am so out of joint lately. My life sucks. Quote
Donny B Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 At first I started to do Savage Land Black Cat, but then I figured "I'm the only one who cares, so why bother?" For what it's worth, I care and would love to see it Plus, the entry I'm planning on doing is possibly going to be "out there" a bit too. I suspect most people will have a "why go in that direction?" reaction. I'm still doing mine because I find the idea intriguing So I say, if you like it, do Savage Land Black Cat TTF & Prowlar: I love your ideas! Stellar! Quote
luke314pi Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 I find that making customs that I am the most passionate about tends to produce the best end results. Just a thought. Quote
dr baghead Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Question: Can the Ghostbusters as a whole count as "one" character? I have a vague, kind of stupid but I'm doing it anyway, idea of a set Ghostbusters... can I enter all 4 or do I have to pick my favorite and make the other 3 "bonus" characters? Quote

youbastards Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 (edited) Captain Britain (World War II) Operation: Rebirth, the top-secret Super Soldier project, was nearing success after months of trial and error. Dr. Abraham Erskine, the primary scientist working on the project, had just assembled his latest batch of volunteer test subjects, when suddenly a Nazi spy assassinates Dr. Erskine and all of his volunteers, including a young man named Steve Rogers. Desperate to salvage the project, the U.S. government contacted Sir James Braddock in the United Kingdom. Braddock, himself a scientist, had been corresponding with Dr. Erskine during the development of the Super Soldier project, and Erskine secretly duplicated all of his notes with explicit instructions to provide the research to Braddock should anything happen to Erskine. James Braddock, determined to complete the work started by his friend, secluded himself on a remote farm in Devon to continue his work in solitude. Not wanting to possibly expose his work by recruiting volunteers, Braddock chose to use himself as the test subject for the Super Soldier serum. Little did he expect, the first test would be successful, and Braddock soon transformed from a meek scientist to the specimen of a near-perfect man, with enhanced musculature and reflexes. Upon informing the U.S. government of his success, the special military battle shield that had been designed for a U.S. soldier was sent to Braddock, who quickly painted a Union Jack over the Stars & Stripes, and donned the identity "Captain Britain". Leading the Allied forces against Hitler's forces and the evil Red Skull, Braddock won battle after battle, until the Axis were ultimately defeated. Braddock retired from military service, his identity remaining a secret through the war, and returned to his farm in Devon to settle down with his new wife Elizabeth. Children followed later, James 'Jamie' Braddock, and twins Brian and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Braddock. Each would go on to have stories and adventures of their own, while Brian would later take the mantle of his father and continue to protect his homeland as Captain Britain. REVISED ENTRY: Ok, so on 2/28 I asked Luke if it is OK to revise our entries, and he said that was fine to do before the contest ends. I had added some additional parts and an alternate 'unmasked' head to WW2 Captain Britain: - Shield Holder - Sidearm with holster - Modified mask - Modified glove with shield holding peg - Wave 31 Captain Britain arms and legs Here are pictures with those revisions: I'm pretty happy with those changes, and I was planning on posting them that day. I show my wife the 'before' and 'after', and her reply was something along the lines of "Cool, but how are you going to re-do the shield?" I wasn't planning on repainting the shield, but her comment made me rethink what made me happy with this custom. So, I decided to sit down and carefully paint a better version of the Union Jack shield, and after a week of working on this when I can, I am finally finished! So that is my 100% finished custom. I'm really happy with him, and even if he doesn't win anything I am so glad that I went back and made the changes, especially to the shield. Thanks to my wife, Tonya, for reminding me that cutting corners rarely produces anything that makes you happy. Edited March 6, 2011 by luke314pi Quote
