Mirymate
For Zach: Guess we need one more hint/answer to help focus this again: animated or live action movie? For the group: find a movie with a significant anniversary coming up. That may help. (leaning towards Peter Pan myself at this point) Edited December 29, 2012 by Mirymate
groundhog7s
The hint I'd love to know is if anyone has actually guessed correctly (but I'm sure that's asking way too much).
hellpop
Well, some of the lines of speculation have gone distinctly unremarked upon; take from that what you will....

Mattallica
how about "Bullitt" Steve McQueen and a sweet green Mustang definitely beloved 1968 WB may have had a video game of? Edited December 30, 2012 by Mattallica
Jatta Pake
I think it will be Peter Pan. Timeless classic. 1953 Movie. Peter Wendy Tinkerbell Lost Boy Captain Hook John Michael Tiger Lily Hook's Ship with Peter Hook's Ship with Alligator Hook Just my pure speculation based on Zach's hints. MisterPL
Considering Peter Pan is due to be re-released on home video on February 5th, I think Minimates would be a great promotional tie-in.
Mattallica
I hope its not Peter pan or any disney cartoon, i really have no interest in Disney based minimates with very few exceptions( the black hole, Tron and a few others)
DSTZach
I'd be ok with Lone Ranger or Robin Hood. The rest of these guesses have me a little worried. Are you worried we might release Minimates you have no interest in buying? Completism is a harsh mistress. But they'll be cool regardless of property. Don't misunderstand. I am certain the figures will be good. I am also sure that some will love the license but when you throw down potential HUGE properties then when a little property is announced we are still left with man i wish it was heman / Star Wars / gi joe...etc He-Man is a huge property to us, but to the world at large? It barely survives as a direct-to-consumer line. I was surprised to see new DC vs. MOTU 2-packs at TRU today, but I guess they use them to hook new customers. Regardless, I would not expect to see MOTU or GI Joe or Star Wars Minimates ever. Too many conflicts. It's easier to never expect them. But beyond these three items coming, NY Toy Fair will bring some interesting new licenses that are 180 degrees from what we're talking about. Mirymate
Joes are like transformers, wholly owned by a toy company. More likely Hasbro would create their own version of mates than giving someone else the licence. Ditto MotU. And sadly that mainstream He-man revival window is long closed in general. MisterPL
Are you worried we might release Minimates you have no interest in buying? Completism is a harsh mistress. But they'll be cool regardless of property. And there's the problem right there! DST makes 'mates SO cool that even if I have no interest in the property, I end up picking up most of the line anyway! I've never played HALO. I don't even own an Xbox! But do I have a box of HALO Minimates and Warthogs? Of course! And it's because DST and Art Asylum make cool toys! So screw you plastic crack peddlers! If you cared about addicts you'd start making crappier product! You wouldn't be going above and beyond with toys like Series 48! Now... when do we get to see pictures of the Peter Pan Minimates?
undeadpool
ok so my official guesses (OFFICIAL) are: Alice in Wonderland (any incarnation) The Hobbit (tho...dont know if thats possible or would count as a new license) Peter Pan (the animated film would be most likely) i would say Invincible, but looking at TWD, i feel thats a license you want to be able to do more with
murderofcrows
It is Peter Pan. Think about it. Ship already made Captain Hook already tooled from calico jack Peter hat already tooled green arrow. It is Peter Pan Disney exclusive. Great for mates and DST. bullocks for me. Watch your Mouth Darren, ITS NOT GONNA BE DAMN PETER PAN NO! there are already tons of peter pan/disney toys/ figs to fill this niche they have a whole damn store of that crap the last thing we need are minimate versions when there are so many other properties that could/should get the minimate treatment Zach, please confirm it is not peter pan please Edited December 31, 2012 by Mattallica

MisterPL
Peter Pan would be a great litmus test for a Disney/DST partnership. If the Minimates sell well enough for this property, imagine how they might sell for a property like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger, or Tron. Think about going to the Disney Parks and seeing sets based on The Haunted Mansion or Star Tours or the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, sets available online just like other "Park Exclusives." Peter Pan would just be the tip of the iceberg for opportunities that wouldn't require DST to acquire a license. Disney would pay DST to design and manufacture Minimates based upon their ever-growing stable of characters, from Disney and Pixar to Lucasfilm and The Muppets. They've already proven themselves with Marvel. And given the exclusive market, DST wouldn't be stepping on the toes of Hasbro or Mattel or any other mass market Disney licensee. There's a lot of potential here. Like Peter said, "All it takes is faith and trust."
Lokash
I agree, Disney properties bring more exposure for the Minimate in general. Speaking as a person who sells minimates to folks at conventions who have never heard of the Minimate line and immediately say " Look, Legos " a big license like TWD and now posibly Disney does a lot to bring new customers. People said the same thing about Toys r us bringing more exposure to minimates and look how that has gone, just wait until the only place you can get Marvel minimates is at a Disney store and see how you feel about it. but besides that im just not interested in Mickey Mouse Minimates and would rather any future offerings were from other properties that dont already have such a wide array of toys on the market. hellpop
People said the same thing about Toys r us bringing more exposure to minimates and look how that has gone Uhhh... the TRU deal has probably saved Minimates. Look, YOU may not be interested in this property, whatever it is (and let's remember we're all just speculating now), but you have to think beyond yourself and your own wants for a minute. If we are seeing the beginning of a greater partnership with Disney, this is an INCREDIBLE get for DST, and will only grow the brand and the company. Not every single Minimate has to appeal directly to adult males that are into comics, video games, and other nerd culture staples. Minimates are a niche of a niche of a niche (collector-driven action figures/ minifigures/ Minimates), and anything that raises their profile and brings in potential new collectors should be supported. Look, I can't stand the Walking Dead; I think it's an awful, awful comic book. But I accept that it's super popular, and I'm thrilled that DST was able to lock down the license, because it grows the brand. You don't want Cinderella, or Peter Pan, or whatever else it might be? Okay, don't buy it. I assure you that the manufacturing of those figures won't effect the lines you do collect one bit.
Mattallica
Uhhh... the TRU deal has probably saved Minimates. Saved from what? they were doing just fine without TRU and look in just the last week or two how many people have posted their frustration with the way the TRU system(doesn't)work and that they may stop trying to get them. you think that helps the line? Anyway as ive said a couple of times now, yes they are not for me, there are other properties that could/should get mated that wont if the line is slowly consumed by Disney, Thats what they do, buy up properties and milk them dry. i'd hate to see that happen to minimates. I mean how likely would DC/WB etc.. mates be if Disney had any "influence" in what gets mated.
MrClean
I love how a thread can go from "new unannounced license & sets soon" to the utter destruction of minimates by the great devil-mouse.

That's too far, DST! I'm drawing a line in the sand! I'm almost glad that TRU has brought about the complete devastation and destruction of minimates.
