Popular Properties You Just Don't Want

Recommended Posts

@BHM: Thanks for the support.

@ Lobsterman: I think "suffering" is a little strong. I mean, it's just toys. I've had Minimates I dearly wanted (the Spirit comics set!) that didn't see the light of day, and I got over it. But yes, I do dislike Kevin Smith that much that I wish his career ill. I root for his movies to bomb; why should the Minimates be any different?

@Donny B: Nah, I don't feel ganged up on. I knew what I was saying when I said it. To me, there's a difference between "I'm not into that" and "I really dislike that", and with this property I fall in the latter camp. And, it just occurred to me, my putdown of View Askew was probably less voracious then that of Big Bang Theory. I didn't suggest I couldn't be friends with someone that likes Clerks, after all.

BTW, the "Batman shat himself" bit was in The Widening Gyre. And, best of all, it's a retcon to Batman Year One! Kevin Smith is the worst.

But YOU'RE saying that I shouldn't have my own opinion of your junk food, which isn't any better.

Yeah, no, I never said, nor even implied that. You inferred that, and it's incorrect.

You are blatantly saying you want the junk food banned so no one even has the option of eating it or not. You are the vegetarian calling for meat to stop being served on the planet.

That's not stating your opinion. That's demanding that everyone kowtow to it.

"I don't like eating meat, so I don't want anyone else to." That's what you're saying.

My opinion is always "I don't like it, but everyone else is free to". I may use hyperbole such as "liking Big Bang Theory lowers my opinion of someone", but not once have I ever said "I wish that show were cancelled."

You're free to hate Kevin Smith all you want (there - I just said the exact opposite of what you claimed I was saying). But you saying you hope the Minimates never come out, or we never get more than what already has, is telling me I'm not allowed to like it.

Plus, from a business standpoint, if a new license fails, isn't a company more hesitant to pursue others? I could be completely wrong, but if that's even a little right, then View Askew tanking could mean you never get a brand you're dreaming of. Which, if you hope I can't get ones I like, then I absolutely don't want you getting what you like, simply out of spite.

Haha this is the best trolling thread ever. sweat.gif

Which is funny because my intention was the opposite.

My most recent post in this thread is an example of NOT trolling a thread requesting anime Minimates. Rather than harsh everyone's mellow over there by saying, "I don't like anime and have no interest in Minimates based on it," I came in here to vent. When I started the topic, I was pretty sure that there were others who felt as I did even if we didn't dislike the same properties. Based on the responses I was correct.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "I hope an existing line bombs" or "I'd lose respect for someone who liked something I didn't" (unless it was something racist or child porn or shit like that) but I fully expected varying degrees of disdain for popular properties. And I'm okay with that.

So just because a handful of people here don't like The Big Bang Theory isn't going to keep me from watching it religiously and petitioning for Minimates of the cast in Star Trek uniforms with a variety of little nerd-friendly accessories like cosplay weapons, RPG boards, video game controllers, and laptops with Einstein screensavers. tongue.png

@Zombie Shakespeare: Definitely. Believe me, if I had that power, I'd have used it ages ago. But, then again, all our discussions are a little silly.

I'm not quite sure why you're taking this so personally, Ten; it's not like I'm organizing a boycott or anything. But I've said my peace on the issue, and don't see a need to keep bringing it up. As far as whether or not one line failing might effect future efforts, while I'd say there's definitely some precedent (Godfather and Beverly Hills Cop not getting enough orders to go into production sure seemed to kill movie box sets), but in this case I can't see much of a parallel. I suppose if View Askew (and Kill Bill) tank, the lesson is "don't go after '90's cult movies". Though I think the real lesson would be "Kevin Smith's a polarizing pop culture figure whose popularity peaked years ago.

No one here has the ability to hate something out of existence.

Don't be so sure. There are many things in this world that can not yet be explained by science. Not every Twilight Zone episode was fiction.

Ever hear of Betty Mae's Lyrics of Love? Small Wonder Version 2.0? Fascination Time with Uncle Edwin? The Twinkie Sunset Brigade of Northern Idaho? Brad and Carl Teach Cool Algebra? Mr. Robot Loves You? The Suite Life of Zach and Cody?

No?

You're welcome.

Many of our discussions can be quite silly & as MOC quite rightly said about my post count "when are you going to say something worth reading ?" sic blush.pngtongue.png TBH & from where I'm sitting this thread is quite tame .

I don't want DC either. I used to... before they ruined it (in my opinion) with the DCnU junk. I was a devout fan and I tried the new stuff for a year but it didn't stick. Now, I don't read DC books and don't care about 'mates getting made.

Whereas before the DCnU debacle, I'd have snapped up more of them had they made them. If they released them based on the Batman '66 stuff I'd buy them, though. That's good stuff.

Disney, Hanna-Barbera, anything else that involves ‘cartoony’ designs.

Good cartooning is about silhouette, and being all on the same base is going to ruin that. (ie- Fred has better posture than Shaggy, and Shaggy is skinner than Fred. Or Belle is a tiny little woman and Gaston is a giant meat head. But as minimates all four of them would be the same size.)

It bugs the hell out of the Street Fighters are all out of whack. Chun-Li is as big as Ryu and Ken, all three of whom are bigger than Guile, Cammy is one of the shortest characters who’s gigantic next to Sagat who’s one of the tallest and is down right puny. Zangief and Haggar have HUGE chest with tinny little limbs because lord forbid waste-of-a-slot Rufus look out of scale when he gets properly beefed up limbs... thankfully Street Fighter is dead (and yes, I’d rather have no minimates from one of my favorite properties than badly done ones) is this isn’t going to be a continuing problem for me, but I don’t want other lines where this is going to become an issue.

There’s some lines within those license where they’d work as minimates (Aladdin for example... Jasmine, Aladdin, and Jafar are all about the same size, throw in a mega-rage Genie since he’s so much larger. DONE! Hanna-Barbera talking animals wouldn’t work... but their ‘superheroes’ like Space Ghost, Birdman, and the Herculoids are all about the same size so they’d work nicely.) but the idea of an overall blanket line that would include characters who wouldn’t work as a block figure is what I’m against.

Turns out Walking Dead is one for me. I enjoyed the comic and TV show, and was a massive George Romero fan for the longest time. Even bought an XBox 360 mostly for Dead Rising. But I still don't own a single WD Minimate. . .
