  1. Personally, I'm surprised that Marvel Minimates have made it 50+ waves before introducing non-comic-accurate designs. I get all the trepidation, and I guess I agree (that it would be bad if it got out of control. but I highly doubt that would happen. I trust DST) ... but part of me is also kinda excited to see what we'll be getting. And who knows? maybe one of the new designs will inspire a comic artist to incorporate the look into a comic, and it will be legitimized
  2. Thank you, everyone who voted for my entry! I seriously wasn't expecting to take first place - I really feel like there were several entries that overshadowed mine. I'd like to echo groundhog's sentiment. I'm fighting off a little bit of guilt, knowing that there were entries that deserve prizes but won't be getting any. You guys should all feel proud of your submissions. They are stunning, and the Minimate community as a whole is elevated through the quality of the work shown off in this contest!
  3. Your customs make me want to weep. That is all I have to say on the matter. ... that, and I want them all.
  4. I just want to say thanks to everyone for the kind words. I felt like my entry was an epic fail compared to what I was trying to achieve (especially compared to the quality of the other entries), but it was really cool to read the compliments you guys gave and I don't know if it's just me, but I had a really hard time narrowing down my votes. There were too many amazing entries in this contest, and everyone should be proud of the creativity and effort they put into their submissions. And even after casting my vote, I still can't make up my mind on which ones I like the most... ^^ seconded.
  5. Okay, so I flirted with the idea of not bothering to finish my project after seeing all the other entries in this contest. There are some seriously AMAZING things in this thread that surely surpass the quality, ambition, and scope of my entry... But I had already sunk all my free time from the last 2 weeks into this project, so I'm submitting it anyway, even though it isn't anything like what I would have made it if I had another 80 hours =P Each 'mate is its own drawing, hand drawn in pencil and computer colored. Each of the original mates took about 5 hours, and the bulked ones took upwards of 10 hours each. It stressed me out to no end, but I loved every second of it Here are some larger looks at each character: Juggernaut Venom Hulk Rhino Thing
  6. here are some new pics of Rhino in "costume" ... my first thought was that it's a CG motion capture type of thing, to assist with the special effects of the costume in post production... but a second look makes me think it's not motion capture so much as part of a robotic suit. Plus, apparently Spidey calls him a "mechanized hippopotamus" in the scene this shot is from ... I guess it makes sense to a Hollywood mind if the Rhino was a guy in an Avatar-type suit, but considering how they did a giant lizard in the last movie, and how Rhino will be accompanying a blue-skinned villain with electrical powers, I'm not sure why they would opt for something more "realistic" with this one aspect...? more pics here
  7. Happy Birthday, bro! Enjoy the festivities!
  8. Oh yeah, there were several of those moments throughout the film. I had maybe half a dozen (some good as well as bad) but I won't get into all of my thoughts because I can't be any different than all the other fanboys posting their thoughts all over cyberspace. but I'd say there was one *big* reveal that had people reacting strongly...
  9. Warning: be sure you're ready for this spoiler, because it will drastically alter your perception of the whole movie going in. It's not as intense as knowing the twist to 6th Sense before watching it, but it's still a pretty big thing. Don't read this spoiler if you plan on seeing the movie unfold as it's meant to:
  10. Yeah, she'll be packed with Picard in his grey collar (movie) uniform And I think that Minimate on the right is the back view of Lynx-O from Thundercats:
  11. I can't help but think that this set is going to do very well, and I will likely kick myself a year after its release if I don't pick up more than 2 sets. I'm still not sure what my personal opinion will be, but I suspect seeing it in person will win me over... and for what it's worth, Zach, I think some of the reactions over Elektra is due to the fact that it doesn't feel like 2 whole years since the last one was released (March 2011, according to the database. hail Ivan ) ... maybe I'm only speaking for myself, but I was surprised to realize that much time has passed since wave 38 ...
  12. This. (plus, the poses and lighting are pretty cool)
  13. For a slightly different perspective (that is, it's not about desperation, but rather convenience) ... My closest TRU is a half hour drive away, and I don't have a chance to get out there too often. I prefer to use TRU's website if I can't make it to the store, but if they don't have what I'm looking for, then a trade here on the boards is a convenient option. Shipping usually evens out better than gas costs for me, so getting a hookup from a fellow board member when I'm needing it (I *think* wave 15 is the first time I've actually needed a hookup for a currently released set) just works out better. Granted, that's my specific situation. It may or may not bear any weight in the bigger picture of this convo. Side question: what's the time frame for 'panicking'? I'm assuming a month is still inside that purview, yes? so where's the line? 3 months? 6? and I promise, my question is out of genuine curiosity...
  14. The first 'mates you get are always a special thing Mine was Ultimate Cyclops. I still remember the moment I pulled him out of the package... As for right now, I have to say I love the sweetness of wave 15. Especially Firelord
  15. the inclusion of lesser known characters is a thing of beauty once they get into Justice League Unlimited... but I won't get too ahead of myself with that just yet
  16. indeed, Wally effectively takes Barry's place in Timm's DCAU, just as Kyle Rainer takes Hal's place as GL (via Superman: The Animated Series) ... I love that this iteration of the Justice League builds off of the continuity of the Batman and Superman shows that preceded it.
  17. Ahh okay. I checked on Monday around noon. I'm actually an hour north of Scranton, so I don't get down that way much unless I have occasion to visit some friends. I was basically just asking to see: A. if I had overlooked where they were (which turns out to be not the case), or B. how many days off I was from coming in when the shipment had arrived. Apparently I was 3 or 4 days off (not nearly as frustrating as if I had been, oh, say, an hour off) I actually got a hookup from Onyx_6 on this set, so I'm good. But thanks!
  18. FINALLY. Eight weeks after the first brick & mortar sighting in Pittsburgh – a mere 300 miles away – I just found remnants of Series 15 at the Scranton TRU. (Maybe Donny got 'em? ) No exclusives but I snagged the two FF sets. Thanks for the offers of assistance, Members of The Board. I may still need to take one or two of you up on it. BUH! you found them, and I didn't see hyde nor hair of them! And I had my girlfriend with me serving as a second pair of eyes to make sure I didn't miss anything =P They must have stocked them sometime between my visit and yours... either that, or I wasn't looking in the right place. What aisle did you find them in?
  19. I always thought Minimates would work well in board game format. I had flirted around with the idea of making a game a couple years ago that combined elements from Risk, Monopoly, and Overpower (terribly original, I know) The general gist of it was to take control of the whole board (Risk style) but to also have the traditional "spaces" that you'd move around (Monopoly style). You choose your character, which comes with one Minimate that you use as your piece on the board (like the car or boat in Monopoly), and your "hero card" (Overpower style) that tells you your stats. As you move across the board, you have to amass resources and attacks (via Monopoly style "chance" or "community chest" type cards, but in an Overpower style for the actual function of the card) and when you land on a space that another character is on, your character 'challenges' their character. You then refer to your "hero card" (see the incomplete mockup image I attached to this post) to see what your base stats are (Overpower style) and you could either eliminate your opponent or integrate them to your "team" (depending on how many players there are)... ... I never got anywhere with it because it's a lot of work and I don't have a mind for it, I guess. But I still always wondered why DST never pursued that venue. Maybe there isn't as great a market for it as I would hope...? Because I never ended up doing anything with it, I figured I'd share my idea here - If you like any aspects of it, feel free to use it (no charge, hahaha. I stole all the ideas from other games anyway ) Anyway, I like your idea. It's intriguing but not too complicated (which may make it more appealing to general players), and being a young tike when the animated series was out, the premise of your game seems pretty fun to me
