  1. Good memory Nessex. Here's the relevant paragraph from my Pantone post (thanks to blacksun1520 for linking it): I hope to revisit this project soon and replace some of the greens. Of course that all depends on whether the 'Active Camo' Halo Minimate has a full transparent base underneath all that armor.
  2. <opens envelope> And the award for most Self-Promoting Question of the Month goes to...
  3. Thanks. It took about an hour from start to post. Just had to tweak the textures, relink them, turn down the lights and Bob's your uncle. I'd like to make a version that matches the pattern on the cover too, but this was quick and easy.
  4. Hrmm, an upcoming box set of delicious glowy variants?? Yes please.
  5. I saw the first photo and thought, "Nah, those bright primary colors won't work with Minimates." The next two photos proved me wrong. They look great together. I think I'm going to have to hunt this set down. How much was it? Where did the train come from?
  6. Just for clarification, my only affiliation with the price guide is allowing my pictures to be used. All the photos already existed and the new ones had to be created for my site anyway. So there was no real extra work on my part. It really is BHM's baby. I just loaned it some clothes so it wouldn't be running around naked. As for the topic at hand, I'm not one for the Minimate Securities Market. I've purchased practically all my Minimates from retailers. I can't recall ever selling one. So I'm not really sure I even have an opinion on this matter. So, rule or no-rule, doesn't matter to me. Although, asking for guide prices seems like putting in the lowest amount of effort and mooching off BHMs work. If I were looking to buy or trade, I'd skip right past you. PM Sent.
  7. Thankfully I'm not burning out and don't see any sign of it in the future. My completionism (?) is not a burden. Sure, when three new waves show up at TRU at the same time my wallet groans. But debt is temporary, Minimates are forever. I can quit anytime I want. I just don't want to. You can't make me.
  8. Thanks everyone. I'm going to try and keep all my self promotion in this thread from here on out. ...well, in my signature too. ...and my avatar. ...maybe Twitter too. ...perhaps a DeviantArt page as well? I doubt I'll make a longer Cyclops animation in the near future. But on long enough timelines all probabilities converge to 1.0. Right now I'm going to focus on building up a character library. Maybe I'll try to reproduce the Marvel poster that's being included in the latest packs. Every time I finish a new figure, I'll generate a few renders for the site and link them here. Thanks for the positive feedback too. It's good to know I'm on the right track with these. Now I just have to figure out how to add more hours to the day.
  9. I thought I had a self-aggrandizing thread for promoting my works in here but couldn't seem to find it with the search. Maybe it's about time I started one. I'd like some feedback on my Minimate related creations and I'm too lazy to add and maintain a commenting system at Minimate Labs. (Actually I'm afraid of little Bobby Tables and the wrath he could inflict.) So I put it to you folks of the 'verse. Would you be so kind? Minimate Labs In my latest post I've been developing my skills with Blender and created a '90s Cyclops' Minimate that I can pose and animate. Here are a couple of the renders. There's also a short animation, but I can't seem to embed that here. You'll have to go to the post. There are also full desktop sized versions there as well. I feel so dirty.
  10. That don't work either. Trust me. Maybe you need to show a little more leg.
  11. The number on Gwen's crotch piece is 100806KK. What does this number indicate? The best I've been able to figure is that it the digits represent the date of manufacture and the characters represent the factory. The date format seems to folllow YYMMDD. So 100806KK would mean that Gwen was made on August 6, 2010 in factory 'KK'. Since they've been stamping these on Minimates, they've all ended with 'KK', except for one. The Spidey Friends and Foes figs had 100106HY. So I had assumed they were made in a different factory. Dunno for sure, those are just my deductions.
  12. Yikes, I've never seen that on a Minimate either. I wonder, are the date codes on the Minimates in the 4-Pack the same as the TRU two-packs? (100709KK) Maybe these were made by a different factory?
  13. Ivan I need you to say this is a joke. I mean I know it is a joke I just need to see you confirm it. <snip> Now I don't have the insider information that Luke has but I think the writing is on the wall. Time to stick a fork in it. Insert cliche #3 involving a large woman. There is a preponderance of evidence that indicates the line is done. Scraping the bottom of the barrel for themed box sets. They've already made (and remade) the figures everyone cares about. They have to resort to stuff like New Mutants(?!) to put new figures. Two sets from Age of Apocalypse? A minor 'event' that nobody really cared about? Bottom.. of.. the.. barrel. The next specialty market waves (38+) will likely be based on the new Cap and Thor movies. But those are obviously just to meet contract requirements. Marvel movies have been flops at the box office and related merchandise hasn't sold at all. The partnership with TRU is an obvious last ditch effort to save the line. Why else would they associate with a company that's been teetering on the edge of bankruptcy for the last decade? Speaking of retailers, the recent announcement of a Disney Store exclusive is the nail in the coffin. Selling new product to a company and brand that virtually nobody has heard of?? Sounds pretty desperate to me. You guys better learn to like Halo. That's your Minimate future right there.
  14. Guess the word is out. Last I heard, DST was going to announce this at NYCC. I wonder who leaked it to Some Guy.
  15. I've been wondering how the reorganization was going to affect DCD. Some of the early PR mentioned "capitalizing on merchandising opportunities" or similar PR drivel. A lot of people don't hold Georg in the highest regard, but whenever I talked with him at SDCC he seemed like a guy doing what he thought was best for his company. I wonder if it was his decision or DC's? (If it's true of course. )
  16. Like eclipse said, I think the Washington Square Ghost could be classified as new. The only other difference I can see is in the Zombie Taxi Driver. The new one is a bit lighter, but not much. Of course all the new ones have 100709KK printed on their backsides. Quick 'n' Dirty. Click for 2X.
  17. Project summary done. (Sorry about the double post, it seemed bad form to update a post that was almost a month old.)
  18. Put me in the simple-hands column. I think one of the appealing things about Minimates is the use of simple geometric shapes. Cylinders for heads and forearms, blocks* for torsos, etc. The hands are simply spheres with a cylinder and a couple slices removed. Stuff like the latest Thanos gauntlets are overkill for my tastes. If DST were to update the basic hand shape, I wouldn't want anything more complex than the old 3" Minimate hands. In fact, I miss the old 'thumb' sometimes. But I'm not convinced it would scale down well. *Obviously they're not cubes, but with the slight tapering I'm not sure what the 'geometric equivalent' name is.
  19. Yeah, I have a similar problem with Reed's hairpiece. I didn't notice it until late in my update process, and didn't have time for a reshoot. It's good to know that it's easily removable. Edited: added link to image.
  20. Crap. I've never seen this variation either. Wonder what other sets were made with this packaging.
  21. Here's my entry: Click to embiggen (1920x1200). I was really tempted to use "Minimates are awesome!" for the caption, but I didn't want to get accused of plagiarism.
  22. Whoa, thanks for all of that Lurch. These look like great fun. On the downside, I have no idea how I'm going to catalog these in the database. I think I can work through the basic figure duplication, but I don't know how I'll be able to show how the different looks associate with different packages. It's too bad they don't have specific names either. "Firefighter Chief" isn't as interesting as "Chief Ned Nederlander" or "Sergeant Alex Murphy". Still looking forward to picking them up nonetheless.
  23. I actually like the scanlines on that piece. The parts I did have to file down came out nice except for where I took off too much material. I'm trying to put together a project summary... I just have to stop the spider monkeys from uprooting my azaleas.
