  1. Yeah, I think $4.99 would be the most reasonable -- it's possible retailers will sell it at that price. TRU minimates are usually sold at $7.99 so $3.99 for a single was wishful thinking on my part. $5.99 feels like specialty market pricing -- at that price I never bought single-boxed figures, except for the unique ones I managed to find.
  2. Wah. My second fear is coming true. Two single packs (blind-bagged no less) are going to cost much more than a 2-pack where you at least know what you're going to get. Are retailers actually going to charge $5.99? I know it's the *suggested* retail price, but $5.99 isn't too far from the price of a full 5" action figure.
  3. Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter seem like pipe dreams. But of the remaining guesses, I would be excited for Hellboy.
  4. Blind bags work on me as a casual buyer. It's fun to buy one or two just to see what I get. But it never makes me want to complete a set, unless it's easy to on ebay assuming there aren't any crazy expensive chase figures. So I'm generally against blind bags, but if they must be done, please don't make any unique characters a super rare chase. Though undesirable, I can live with a chase being a minor variant of an easily attainable figure.
  5. Why isn't this happpennniiiiiing? Does someone have the block figures license already?? This seems like a no brainer. - Huuuuuge cast of visually interesting/distinct characters. - Potential for army builders galore. - Height of its popularity (for geeks / nongeeks and men / women alike) and several seasons still to come. Lego will never pursue it because it's the opposite of a kid-friendly show. And there's ample evidence that DST will pursue violent content (e.g. Tarantino films, Sin City, Aliens, etc. though I find it difficult to be excited about these old properties). The only reason not to do it I can think of is that the license is too expensive to be profitable.
  6. I love Minimates because they have a cool block aesthetic (better than Kubricks and Legos IMO) that also allows for posability and customization. The block form factor also supports a visual consistency between different lines, which allows me to mix characters of different properties. Finally, they are an affordable way to satiate my addiction to plastic.
  7. Yeah I'm curious about the proportions too. In the show, Leo is "normal", Don is tall and lanky, Mike is small, and Raph is bulky. I'm wondering if any of that has translated to the Minimates.
  8. These look good for what they represent. It's hard for me to get too excited because we only get one wave. I will still get them of course.
  9. I'd buy Saga minimates. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the character designs, but they are certainly visually interesting. I'm also going to champion Fables minimates. Huge cast of visually distinct characters and you don't even need to have read Fables to know who they are.
  10. I dunno why, but something about these seem "flat" to me, at least compared to the usual movie wave. Maybe they're just really brightly lit. Not a great sign that the battle-damaged fireman Spidey's face webbing is off-center in the promo pics. :-/ I guess he was hit so hard his eyes shifted.
  11. Hey Zach, we all think it's *expletive* awesome that you feed our insatiable hunger for Minimates info. But I'd have to imagine everyone assumed GotG was going to get Minimates regardless, so we were all pining for photos come Toy Fair. In any case, I'm a supporter of having a smaller Rocket even if that means sacrificing articulation. I mean, look at that gif in undeadpool's sig. He's tiny! I even wish Wolverine were a little shorter than a normal Minimate, but I'll live.
  12. I'm not particularly excited about any of the new lines, except maybe TMNT, but still waiting to see them. I'm sure I'll still pick up the various movie sets though. But as long as Marvel related Minimates keep being made, I'm a happy camper. Though I'm still wishing for Minimates of licenses that Funko is exploring, like Game of Thrones and the Whedon shows.
  13. Leonard was the entry point to the series but now he's the worst. He's insufferable and really quite dumb for how smart he's supposed to be. And he adds no comedic value to the show. In any case, I enjoy the show. I like how they mix in science, technology, and pop culture geek humor in an accessible way. I find it interesting how polarizing the show is. I'm not surprised by it, but I guess I don't find it the show that offensive. There's a mix of "laugh at" and "laugh with" the characters, which I find acceptable. On some level they make fun of everyone, not unlike Family Guy. But they also let the characters be victorious in their lives. It's no Community or Parks and Rec; it is still a Chuck Lorre comedy on CBS after all, but I find it entertaining enough. Anyway, I enjoy the show, the Minimates have pretty great likenesses. I'll probably pick those up, but it's certainly not a license I *need*.
  14. I certainly was not expecting PVZ mates, haha. The translation from the cartoon style of the game to Minimates is quite good. I've played the games, but I'm doubtful I'll pick these ups. Though I do hope these can lead to new Minimate fans.
  15. Yeah looks like the Gotham Knights version, which I prefer. It looks awesome, but I can't imagine how helpful those points of articulation will be given that his shoulders are stuck in place haha.
  16. I get asked the first question a lot by friends / family. I have plenty of friends who are into geek culture, but I am the only one among my close friends who collects toys. The short answer is I enjoy it. The long answer is I don't know. I consider myself fairly rational and practical, but when it comes to collectibles I make completely irrational decisions. I don't go overboard, but I won't hesitate to spend money on something I really want. My collecting really first became extensive with Marvel Legends. The combination of sculpt and articulation was something I had never seen before -- and I loved Marvel. I was also at the age where I was just old enough to spend money on frivolous things at my leisure. I remember when Minimates came out and thinking they were cool, though a bit too simplistic for my tastes. But I also was afraid to start an entirely new collection. Years later, as Marvel Legends was waning, I bought the Wolverine / Deadpool set. I was hooked. Minimates had gotten to the point where I could appreciate both the simplicity of the design and they had just enough amount of sculpted parts to really capture the individual characters. So why do I keep collecting? Part of it is purely aesthetic -- I like seeing my favorite characters assembled in 3D form in a clean, consistent design. Part of it probably pathological. My dad used to collect stamps / coins -- maybe there is some collecting gene, but otherwise Minimates are basically plastic crack for me (but harmless and relatively inexpensive). It's something fun and stable to look forward to with just a small amount of stress in trying to obtain everything to make things a bit interesting. The variety (at least for Marvel) is unparalled. I love opening the packages, but it's not long before I put them into those tiny ziplock bags and put them into storage containers. At least they're small and cheap compared to 6" figures, which is why Minimates is pretty much all I collect now (and the occasional Hot Toys figure). I usually only keep a handful on display on my desk and "stare at them," but that's pretty much all I do with them. And although I'm primarily a lurker, I also enjoy reading this forum consisting of fellow collectors enjoying a fairly niche product.
  17. Funko has Buffy and Firefly licenses: http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=274&itemid=21586 How do they get so many properties?? It drives me nuts that they get all this cool stuff but the quality control is so bad that it prevents me from buying anything. Basically every property Funko has (including Game of Thrones) I wish could be done as Minimates too.
  18. Yeah I'd probably go with separate too. I agree about the shoulder pads, though minor, being a big enough of a difference.
  19. Bummer. Would've liked a Frigga too! Although it's hard to argue against these choices. Thor, Loki, Malekith, and Dark Elf are givens. Darcy and Selvig round out Thor's merry band of human pals. Heimdell doesn't round out Thor's Asgard buddies since we never got the rest of Warriors Three, so I guess I would've taken Frigga over Heimdall, crazy as that is to say.
  20. TMNT could be interesting. I'm wondering how well they'll translate to minimates -- they are rather stocky characters. Kill Bill will probably be a pass for me as I didn't care for those movies. The last guy should've numbered the Vertigo question! Chuck didn't answer it; what could it mean??
  21. Darn no one asked about Firefly again haha. Now that Dark Horse is launching a new Firefly comic, maybe there's a chance!
  22. sweet im glad we're finally getting an updated 616 nick fury!
