  1. What are some of the more common or recurrent reactions (especially first time reactions) to minimates (and other block figures such as palisades palz :P) do you hear from people? I'll start: calling the minimate a LEGO. this is of course fair enough, as it's a much more well known brehren. Often in my IRL life though, when i notice someone has a figure (often a LEGO minifig) at their place or w/e of a certain chsracter i endeavour to bring a minimate of the same character by when possible...so many folks with exxxtensive lego collection just call the 'mates "lego (character)" even when they're playing around with it alongside an (as WE know) several times smaller and less articulated danish minifig another iconic is of course "whoops i broke it" when first discovering the interchangability of the parts Have any 'normies' responses to minimate you've shown them/they've seen stood out to you?
  2. brilliant touches for scale, especially the laptop incredible stuff as ever and VERY groovy maxi Manhattan! not sure if I've seen him before; you've always got such a good eye for super characters that makes sense at super scales
  3. Victor Vector though 😛 i'm not much of a gamer myself but i picture your pitches with a similar vibe to the mass effect minimate box
  4. Oh. My. Giddy. Aunt! the master mold indeed, so sorry to have missed this cylonchaney but wooohoooo fantastic work on hiller and bishop! lovely colours, and of course, everything else you've been showing off since (and before, looove the breaking bad minimate so much!) also very informative to hear about the actual process that's gone into the chaneymate, and to those sentinels! such scale, such numbers. i recently received my first ever six-armed spidey so i was double flabbergasted to see that beast of a sential! i love how you can fit a 'mate into his hand too, *chef's kiss* gosh you're an inspiration ps good luck on your own printing journey @Captain Paco i too am hoping to get a tiny bit of access to a 3d printer later this year 🙂
  5. Thank you so very much for your suggestions and insight gentlemen! Glad to hear it's not all that uncommon Shanester (and as as ever you've left me chuckling BHM!) and I'm very grateful to have not one but TWO methods to have a stab at. I've left the 'mates in question tucked away (and quarantined!) a little far away at present but rest assured once I'm back near them I'll see if i can get 'em down to the lab and see if i can get them looking (or at least feeling) fab and of course I'll try and report back how i went for posterity! cheers again gang
  6. no, no, not that exceelent 'black oil' accessory included with the newborn alien in x-files Palz wave 2 (with included feet holes!) although i suppose history will tell. i'm posting here in case this is a problem more readily apparent in lines beyond minimates (and for somewhere to put it of course, if there's somewhere better let me know) What's the deal with black plastic sometimes going gooey/sticky/oily? I have been meaning to ask for a while, and i recently purchased a sun-damaged spider-man 3 2-pack where both figures (but especially black spiderman) were afflicted by this, and i wonder what causes it and what one might do to treat/avoid it? I initially thought it was to do with either the sun or this particular plastic, but now owning that i own some stealth cylons i see they too have the sort of sticky plastic; which i feel i was able to somewhat rectify with a rub across some rough fabric (denim to be precise). Could this just be the Queensland summer heat over the years, even?
  7. happy new year one and all! I hope 2024 brings happiness galore gang, such a pleasure to be a part of things here!
  8. thank you so much for the kind words everyone! One hell of an epiphany there, fantastic to hear you managed to make it down under @buttheadsmate , and that it treated ya well what a place to land though: I studied in (& have lived over) Brisbane! reading of your travels has me all sorts of excited to return there next! the lego mick's gas can is from COBI while mini mick's hails (hail ivan) from the hard goodbye set from sin city @elhonez another custom premiering soon...
  9. the mystery continues 😮 i concur on be@rbricks looking a bit abysmal and yes indeed, the 'trick' and the 'fake' do indeed have the clocks and gauges and rivets and meters: i fancied their look as a little like retro robots, not realising their promo nature til i was quids in 😛 does anyone have much experience with minority report kubricks? i've been trying to assemble one of the 'spiders' from that line but i can't seem to get the balls into the joints
  10. so much bang for the 'blank' minimate buck, so smooth 7 sleek! i too would have perhaps preferred a tampo'd hoodie but what we've got's rather nice
  11. thank you very much! i'll follow you
  12. cheers for the details there Zach, always giving the good run down i'm glad to hear it's a somewhat snug fit in there
  13. that's so cool, i love that! also when a toys backing forms a little backdrop/diorama scene; this is sooo very classy though
  14. BHM! i was just typing a reply to you (in the kubrick thread of all places!) and here you are splendid. I had a feeling you'd remember The Cubes, though I had no idea kubrick cases were a thing but as ever you're expanding my horizons to no end. you make a good point on the black base trim on these; though perhaps, circumference permitting, mounting a 'mate on one of their clear circular stands might go some way to alleviating how...footless and fancy free these might be, now that you mention it. Indeed, they might not take a standard minimate stand. I was hoping to be able to bodge one in, even if just for the foothold keeping everything from rattling...imagine my joy hearing of an inbuilt foot stud, let alone stackability! It sounds like medicom not only cracked the blind box format but also MiP (or near enough) and space efficient storage of the result! my character building doctor who microfigures stackable blind boxes aren't quite the groundbreaking innovation i once thought they were 😛 sideways stacking what will they thunk of next...
  15. That's so cool BHM, always great to hear your updates on the wider block figure world, & trust you to order in both sizes 😛 ...it's cool to see that much of recent Kubrick Kontent has been minimalist releases in those scales. i wonder if you mess with bearbricks very much? i notice the larger body versions of those seem particularly popular/chic, and i'd be interested to know if any stood out to an aficionado such as yourself a smaller kubrick happening here, as i have managed to get my hands on BOTH The Fake and The Trick Kubricks, with baggies included (i'm sure a completionist like you can appreciate that :p) from Joycon circa 2001 i believe? I've just started trying to get a look at your latest acquisition online; adding Hitchcock to Kubrick online compounds the usual directorial diversion when googling! we can only hope for Spielberg, Tarantino, Michael Bay to round out the set... and of course, a Stanley Kubrick Medicom Kubrick 😛 that would be an epic wrap party indeed one might say, an epic rap battle for the history books Hope your Hitchcocks Present soon mate!
  16. that's no trouble, things move pretty slow and steady on here anyways you can 'follow' topics/threads but as far as getting notifications about the site off the site I've no idea, though your quoting my post certainly drew my eye to this so thank you for that, and thank you again for saying g'day and talking here on the multiverse: it continues to astound me in the best of ways on so many days...whenever i pick up some Palz lately, really, or mull over some Palisades muppets on eBay, or dream feverishly of die hard minimates sorry again if my opening questions interrogation was a bit over-enthusiastic! thank you so much for the opportunity, your answers give a bit to chew on! i'll hold my horses on any further questions for the time being and go sort through my paper Palz paraphernalia with a fine-tooth comb (and a big arse magnifying glass! :p) as well find the instagram you mention. I had no idea that Die Hard was potentially going to be two-packs, but i did always have the suspicion the episodes on the Palz sized X-Files were chosen with a care beyond my ken 😛 groovy to hear and so groovy that you have such recollections of the line; I'm keen as mustard to check out some of your further retrospectives and so glad to hear of them!
  17. G'day g'day & welcome to edition 2 of minimateship's mash-ups i'm your host signaturechoice minimateship! First of all thank you so much for the kind words guys, and indeed the warning! if there's any a slippery slope I'd rather be on it's yours @cylonchaney, i'll be in the market for a 3D printer before you know it! jks...but also.. 😜 and many thanks also @Shanester always groovy to hear from the proverbial bossman round here now for today's instalment: this week's mystery custom character: well, if i told you that I'd have to kill ya... 😜 much like Nessex and myself, it's a fellow iconic australian...he's from the deepest depths of the untouched outback... he says "that's not a knife" and wears a black Akubra...he's right up there with Kraven in hunting terms and he's craven all the same.... ...and my Crocodile Dundee custom is far from done! So here's another Mick from Oz who said that famous line second, in his first film...in this instance, "that's not a knife... this is a jerry can". Some of you horror buffs, and those who like Australian stuff and other fellow countryfolk (make urselves known ) may recognise this as Mick Taylor, lead antagonist of the Wolf Creek film/television series, . It all started with an ambition to upscale a LEGO custom and here we are and here that is: you may notice there's a bit more salt than pepper in the LEGO minifigure's beard; this is perhaps more accurate to the character on-screen; however my sort of 'headcanon', as the kids say, is that the minimate is the more youthful Mick Taylor found in the Wolf Creek prequel novels. That being said, I'm all ears on recommendations for a different head/hat/hunting knife! If you've made it this far, thanks for reading cheers cobber, til next time and have a good one mate!
  18. your work/style/aesthetic is so incredible! very slick, and such ambition, oh gosh. i'm still working my way through your wonderous thread i just wanted to say it's awesome to see what you've pulled off with undersea gal's head there (as well as the entire wave!) thanks so much for sharing! you have some of the most imaginative parts use/combination, it's all sorts of inspiring ps hangmate is the coolest thing ever
  19. this is so groovy! the most portable display case, and a serviceable enough travel case even! i use everything from minimalist snack-sized tupperware boxes to expensive washed-out chocolate cases (ferrero, for sure-oh) to give minimates on display an extra bit of prominence/protection on some shelves. it's nice to see something fairly purpose built for the job is around just the thing for cubicles, computer monitors and desk tops! on a related note... does anyone remember The Cubes?
  20. A mash-up! A pie and mash-up, even. Not quite but for our inaugural instalment it will be a curiously culinary creation: Guessed yet? Maybe a group shot will help; it's an ordinary enough looking fellow but as is often the case, the monsters are hidden in plain sight... Here's my bite-size version of Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal Lecter! I tried many a suit (some too loud, many too quiet) before settling on this more toned down blue, 1) because i had the body on hand today and 2) to evoke the suit worn in the promotional materials for the series. The hairpiece I've used doesn't immediately come to mind (maybe Rick Grimes?) again just something i had on hand (then head) i call these casting customs where i just use the person's head and make minimates of their other roles when it works out juuuust right Many thanks to everyone on the Minimate Multiverse and to Mr Mikkelsen's decision to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and thus cement himself as a minimate! James Bond, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter and other customs to follow 😛 all feedback welcome especially new person suit ideas Now where's my Swedish Chef...
  21. I had no idea what a ride it's been! You sound like a wonderful father, and it's great to hear you're finding the time to be around a bit more online. I for one, like roman numerals, am glad enough to take you right up on that offer, though I'll try and begin with only a mercifully short (painfully longform) set of questions: 1) X-Files Two-Packs -- to expand on a point you mentioned that I've thought about near daily since, what were some of the ideas floating around when X-Files Palz were destined to be two-packs? I often sit and mentally pair the characters of wave one together to see what combos fit best thematically scully&pfaster, deep throat & grey alien vs practically or if the line up was even decided at that stage, or indeed if that was more a series 2 discussion alongside the EXQUISITE die hard palz (my first ever block figure case, all the way over here in mid-00s Australia! an incredible memory) 2) Attention to Accessories -- Squinting at episode titles on the 'File" in the hands of my Palz is a fond memory, i learned quite a bit of plot from the embryo included with the grey alien, fortunately less from the retooling of that element in the second series 😛 Skinner's forever incomplete desk set-up (now i have a towering wheelie chair tho, ho-ho-ho), right on down to the The 'Lilly' Sanitation Services on the back of my favourite Flukeman's toilet: What are some of your favourite accessories from the line, or ones with more a story to tell than we've heard? I'm particularly interested in what went into choosing which episodes to include on the Files, further accessory plans and of course any Lilly Sanitation Services esque gags we may have missed, or missed out on! 3) Legless Legacy -- Thank you so much for what you've shared already, and for maybe reading this! I think i've managed to secure a copy of Get Bit! and I'm absoutely jubilant at this thread and being able to get one last Palz surprise after the bell. Second-hand of course; i'm sorry to hear things went poorly as that project went on. I had no idea the Palz physique rode again, so thank you for that, and for doing more cool stuff! I also discovered your 'Smart Bombs' from here (thanks BHM!) :What are some things you've worked on that particularly stand out on the shelf to you? What's your favourite Pal from X-Files Series 1? What Palz would you have had as super special limited-run give-aways & the like, if the stars aligned? Thank you so very much for your time @blogzilly, and for all the brilliant block figures (and figures at large!) I hope my enthusiasm hasn't shone through too blindingly and that i've not scared you off 😛 There may be a Die Hard Palz thread revival yet
  22. the yellow wiggle? 😛 inspiring as ever to see! I get the feeling those in the Star Trek thread are gonna love these i look forward to acquiring more Data
  23. I always adore these blasts from the minimate past! Thank you as ever BHM a minimate pipe, now there is a hole in the market; i do adore adding cigarette hands (and laughs!) to characters thank to the ol' interchangeability (and thanks to Sin City, i can do it in colour AND black and white!) remember when an early Thing, or was it Nick Fury, included a loose cigar that was essentially just a tiny brown tube? how far we've come
  24. Woo! can't wait for the tray shot; hopkinsbot looks cool enough to sell me a box all alone! second that @Freaqualizer re: the hat being ideal for a Scarecrow custom (and other spooky sorts!) the military bloke looks pretty nifty also
