  1. The last 3 comic book TRU waves have shown up online the same exact day as my local store. The snag is being on PST they are up hours before my local store opens but being a nervous nelly I ordered them in fear of selling out. So naturally when I go to the store there they are fresh on the peg… and just a bit too late to cancel my online order. So true. If TRU would bite the bullet and actually have a real clearance cycle on their product they would move out far more product making room for fresh stuff and appear a lot more relevant. So much old dead stock at $.50 off (or still full price) that is going nowhere. Minimates are a great example. So are those 6" Iron Man armored avenenger figures that TRU must have bought all of Hasbro's old stock of and then jacked the price up to $19.99! My TRU has 4 pegs JAMMED full of those things with no movement. Clear that crud out!
  2. My TRU got a case today… of Iron Man 3. Which makes total sense since they still have 3-4 stragglers hanging about from the last case back in June. Not to mention about 20-30 assorted packs of earlier series and 2 full pegs of the AVX box set. Plenty of Mirage, Magma, Rictor, Kingpin, Silver Surfer, Anihilus, Amazing Spidey's and others to go around. All at the whooping $6.99 "clearance" price. Yes, I am being a grouch…
  3. Skip the 3D, felt a bit gimmicky IMO & did not add anything to the presentation. Decent movie with an odd final 3rd ending. If you can make it a matinee to save a few $ you will feel better about it. I did.
  4. Sorry to see you go. Best wishes to you and your family.
  5. A semi-quick QC kit-bashed Mr. Freeze I just completed. Before paints & sans-hands: After: Went for a Batman The Animated Series/Arkham City inspired amalgam based on the parts I had. I still need to either print up a label for a new face with googles or paint googles on. Not a big fan of free-handing it but the helmet will obscure a lot of imperfections. I like the vampire face and the tiny fangs are not visible under the helmet but there is no room for any slip over googles under the helmet. Any suggestions? I also need to touch up the boot tops a little bit, tiny bit of paint run from pushing the legs into the boots. Even being careful not to get the metallic paint inside I still did and it was a tight fit to begin with. Big thanks to Zach for helping me sort though the Build-a-Mate bins at SDCC to find some good Mr. Freeze parts!
  6. Ugh. I love the Scribblenauts games. My 8.5 year old son who is a DC fanatic can not wait for Scribblenauts Unmasked, heck it is pretty much the reason we are getting him a WiiU for Xmas this year. He is going to bonkers when I show him these but damn, they have no charm at all. And blind box?!?, dumb move DCC. I will maske sure to mention that to the DCC guys every chance I get this weekend at SDCC.
  7. Just caught this on SDCC's exclusive list, this year's Minimates giveaway is a Battle Beasts Shadow Merk?! Hmmm... wonder if there is enough there to put together an Ionic-energy form Wonder Man...
  8. Zach- As someone who has been ordering LEGO bricks for years to use as stands I love the "bag-o-stands" idea! Just one request, could you use a little bit of your influence to put the idea of bags of clear stands into the mix as well? I will be sure to do it at Ask DST as well. I use white shelves & display tiers and the black stands will be really distracting. With clear being the pack in standard I would like to keep that trend on my shelves. Thanks & I'll be sure to bug you about it at SDCC!
  9. Just a random thought after looking at my Toybiz 5" Iron Man's that would make for a killer looking minimate... Whirlwind! Could maybe even repurpose his gauntlet blades into a Gladiator…
  10. Bowen (at least I think it was Bowen, too lazy to google it at the moment) did a bust of Stan Lee 5-6 years ago (Kirby too) and there was the SDCC Marvel Legends Stan Lee figure, so the possibility is out there...
  11. I don't know about Cyber-Spidey but the Mecha-Hulk was designed by Art Adams! That entire Hulk Classics wave was designed by Adams. His artwork is on the packaging and if you look at the figures in the series you can see his influence.
  12. All right Zach, the bar is set... please raise it!
  13. "Sure he may still get email notifications of new posts in this thread or check the forum anonymously, but it's pretty clear to me that he was only here to use whatever prominence his name had in the Minimate community to help fund his project." I have to say I was at the SDCC Minimates panel last year where he announced the Agent 88 Minimates thing and his distain toward Minimates was very visible. My friend with me turned to me to ask why Digger who he knew was the founder of Minimates hated them so much? He was clearly there to sell Agent 88 and nothing else. And in year's past SDCC panel his distain was noticeable from a mile away IMO. Agent 88 is definitely not my cup of tea and the related Minimates are not for me. But hey, if it means a bunch of promo 'mates get made then I am all for it since I know a lot of folks around are stoked for them. I just hope they happen for those who pledged for them.
  14. Made for the Bandai Gundam mech model kits. They come in a multitude of widths and colors. They are actually a good bit finer, depending on the size you pick up. Not really. They dry quick and are designed for plastic. If you are careful and wipe any excess off immediately the results are very clear. Since the TRU Thing is painted Orange and not molded in color the marker takes it very well & quickly. I did the exact same thing to my TRU Thing. The lines on the face but not the body bothered me.
  15. "Sorry Rob, but you're actually... wrong? Yes, the early waves were 1 per case, same as LCS. But even still, TRU ordered more cases than LCS did. Sometimes only by the hundreds, but they were always more. We'd have to go back and dig out the numbers, but I'm almost certain that there are always more TRU exclusives than LCS variants. Even at 1:1 per case. The perfect way to prove this one way or another is pull the order numbers for wave 30 and wave 4, as those hit at roughly the same time." Don't forget too that you have to add the direct market "god" cases into the equation where the variants are packed evenly. that throws the ratio vs TRU cases off a little bit more and even the playing field between the two on those early TRU 1:1 cases. So in other words unless Zach can chime in with more exact production run numbers (and that's if DST even really tracked them that closely) it is one big mystery...
  16. Well it's not the Minimates IM3 mystery box set but I did find these today... It's a shame Hasbro cheaped out and included a Detroit Steel & Hulkbuster reissue (from a different style to boot) and put the "Mark 42" with a silly vehicle. Oh well, it all just makes me more excited for Zach to reveal the mystery IM3 box set & embargoed 'mates...
  17. Found this today at TRU: Too bad they included Detroit Steel in the set and Mark 42 with a silly vehicle... And they also had the single bagged Marvel Superhero Adventures figures and 2 empty shelf space for 2 more Iron Man products. The Hasbro stuff for IM3 has really been lacking. The $6 3.75 repaint figures are junk, the ASSemblers are weak for $10, SHQ was all reissues and these are just meh repaints. Oh well, just makes me more excited for the Minimates & the mystery Minimates IM3 box set!
  18. hellpop gets it. To the point and right on. Once opened they have little aftermarket value and to be honest most minimates collectors are in it because we love them and not for future resale value. We may sell off subsets or parts here and there but we proudly collect them. The packaging is clutter, plain and simple. Colorful clutter but clutter none the less. I spent the last few years dehoarding and streamlining my collections and could not be the happier for it. Get rid of all that junk, free your 'mates from their cardboard/plastic coffins, enjoy them and feel liberated! Sounds silly but you will feel so good when you do. Then go over to IKEA and pick up a Billy book case and display them with pride!
  19. Somebody might have a better idea but in the past I've just watered down some Elmers glue, brushed it into the joint and moved it back and forth a bit until it dried. Tightens up the joint without permeantly fusing it, dries clear and no white plastic/chemical reaction like Superglue often causes. The downside is that you can not move the knee too much or the glue flakes off. I don't mind that since I am usually just trying to get them to stay upright in a pose on my shelf.
  20. Very cool customs, love the potential for that in this line even if they're not my cup of tea. That said and hopefully you are reading this Zach, if DST ever does a High Evolutionary Minimate I would be all over some BB's to kitbash as his creations! I'm sure I would not be the only one to do so which in turn would help spur some BB sales Zach... just saying. Plus HE would make for a cool looking 'mate!
  21. Target is the only place I've heard of them popping up at brick & mortar. While they are not the full size or even the Mini-Muggs I still dig them being a fan of all things Iron Man. That are not that small at 2", they have a nice width to them and way beyond capsule toy size and quality IMO. I feel like they're a decent value for $3, I don't feel ripped off and compared to some of the designer toy market stuff they're a bargain. I just have a strong dislike for blind box figures in general. Being a sucker for all things Iron Man and with my said dislike of blind box packaging I caved and bought a fresh case from Target to make sure I got a set in one shot. 3 complete sets of 12 figures in the case (case says collect all 24 but don't mention that's split across 2 waves). If you look at the box it's the 12 on the left side in wave one. That all said I have an extra set of 12 if anybody is interested in them from cost + shipping. My cost on the set is $39 after tax. I can ship them either USPS First Class Mail ($3-4) or they will just fit into a Priority Mail small flat rate box for $5.80. Just shot me a PM.
  22. Notch molded in back of shoulder piece that the wings peg onto. Simple & effective. Anybody else's Air Walkers foot holes too big for the flight stand as well?
  23. Yep, got the same email. And then I swung by my local TRU while running some errands today and where they were not there on Friday but there today so I got my Firelord/Airwalker anyway. Backorder canceled! Cosmic balance is fun sometimes.
  24. The bizarre thing is that these are not new at all but from a Mexican Newspaper Sunday edition promo a few years ago. A buddy of mine was looking for them, apparently they shipped with the Sunday edition, one a week, for a few months. More recently a smaller scale version started popping up on eBay out of China. I picked up a GL for fun. They're cute enough. The figures I get but the images on pint glasses and the like are just odd IMO. If you poke around on eBay complete sets have been around for months now and for cheap.
