  1. Very beautiful mates, all around! Though I can already hear the cries of fans who don't recognize many of those ghosts as "minimates" ... and I see there is no apparent size restriction with these. Boogieman's head by itself is the almost the size of a standard minimate
  2. Crikey Good call. I completely missed that... So, am I just daft? I never thought of Magneto's costume as being made of metal. I understand the shininess on characters like Iron Man, but it seems out of place on Magneto (imo)
  3. As far as I can tell, Magneto looks to be made up of the exact same parts as the very recent TRU Magneto. My personal opinion of the TRU release was that it was an amazing mate with the exception of the ridiculous amount of shine. That, for me, ruined the figure completely. I could argue that if we're going to get rehashes of previously released characters, we could at least get new sculpts. However, we are getting a lot of new pieces with several other characters - and from a business standpoint, the more parts reuses they can work in, the better. That being said, if this new Magneto is non-metallic, then that would be a massive plus, imo.
  4. Actually, it was... Darren Martin posted it on January 25th So I guess that confirms MvC3 as the huge surprise? I suppose it could still be something else, but it's unlikely. I have to say, though, that this works for me as the big reveal. I know a lot of people are disappointed, and MvC3 isn't at the top of my personal list, but no matter what property is announced, someone will always be underwhelmed. There are too many different tastes represented on this board for only one license to make everyone happy... All in all, I'd call this a good day for Minimates
  5. While I can totally understand the 'meh' feelings some of us are having over this license, I personally am kinda excited about this. Yes, we're getting retreads of many Marvel characters that we've already gotten... but it's likely that they may be a slightly different artistic style, yes? possibly more of an anime feel? I say that because I can remember when the first MvC game came out - I never played the game, but I fell in love with the action figures. I found Cyclops and Captain America, and they simply blew away the other versions of those same characters that I had from other toy lines. And while I do realize that anime style Minimates won't translate the same way as anime style 6" figures did, I'm still interested in seeing what potential differences we'll be seeing. Plus, as was just proven here on this board within the last week or two; WE might be fed up with retreads of Hulk or Wolverine, but there actually is a market for bringing in new fans via newer versions of the heavy hitters. But all in all, the thing that I'm finding most exciting about this is that while it technically isn't the return of Street Fighter, if this line does well (which I am optimistic it will) it will likely only be a matter of time before we do in fact see a more completed Street Fighter line, and who knows what else? A complete Mega Man line? *faint* If DST plays their cards right, this could be the second step in their 'game changer' strategy that might lead to bigger licenses (Mario? Metroid? Zelda? Paper Boy? Marble Madness? ... Frogger?! )
  6. DST posted a photo of the the prototype Goblin Glider on their FB page: DANGIT! someone always beats me to the punch!
  7. Interesting... That isn't the one I was thinking of, but it does have some amazing shots in it! I'm glad you brought it to my attention, and I have no idea how I didn't know about it... (or maybe I did know about it but have since forgotten?)
  8. I remember one along these lines, too. What I'm recalling had limitations like "all poses must be natural positions a minimate can be put in" (ie, no photoshopping or altering of the 'mate in any way) It must have been something like 4 years ago? ... I also did a relatively extensive search and came up with nothing. Could it have been from one of the old boards?
  9. is it an actual difference in the skin tone? I might think so too if not for that small sliver at the bottom of her face, which happens to coincide with the shadow on the rest of the packaging. I'm just guessing, but it makes me think that her face is darker because of the shadow, not because the mate itself is colored differently...
  10. Personally, I'd be the opposite of crushed. I actually prefer all my mates to be 2" ... since Marvel will never be bigger, it would be nice to have Killer Crock or Bane standing next to Hulk without making him look like a homunculus That being said, I'm not getting my hopes up for more DC mates. With our luck, it'll be Pac Man
  11. All of the reviews/news reports that I've been reading make it sound like the official title of the movie will be "Superman: The Man of Steel"
  12. Perhaps. But I prefer my sports heroes to be or space duck hockey players
  13. Beautiful! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks they should have gone that route. When I asked about it in the Q&A, they said they take that approach in order to keep the integrity of the basic minimate body (which is cool, because it can definitely be a slippery road... though I wouldn't say they've been consistent *coughSalaakcoughHalo*). And on top of that, I can see it being a big plus with kids. I know I loved switching parts with that toys I had when I was little so that I could have He Man with Superman's cape, etc. That being said... certain add-ons just don't work as add-ons. BS, I absolutely love how you tweaked this Spidey mate
  14. My wallet is weeping at the prospect of this idea. 2010 was rough enough on me, budget-wise... being a completionist is going to kill me if they do anything sports related. There's no way I'd be able to keep up, especially if they become stadium-exclusives
  15. I'm thinking the point is to celebrate the new Thundercats show Here's hoping this relaunch will work out better than Masters of the Universe
  16. I think that might be an error on the site. I tried purchasing a set along with another pack that I'm still needing, and all that's showing up in my cart when I get to the checkout is the other pack. It seems they don't actually have the BTTF set Edit: or they just sold out amazingly fast
  17. To answer the question about the color of his eyes: it seems as though they're silver and therefore reflective of whatever color is around them Here are more newly released photos: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=73500 http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=73493
  18. I'll admit that I enjoy the current relevance of online articles (assuming it's from a trusted source), and in that respect, I won't be missing Wizard too much. But part of me has always had a close affinity for printed media. If comics become exclusively digital, I will be very sad indeed. I enjoy technological advances, but real books on real paper will always be my first love... That being said, I think Wizard is a different beast. it won't hurt me too much to be limited to reading it via my computer
  19. Disney 'mates makes the most sense to me. My first guess/hope was Nintendo, but that would be too good to be true (as would the return of DC mates) ... the more I think about it, the more I think that Disney is the most likely big announcement they've got coming up. Though, instead of waves of randomly picked characters, I'm thinking they'll probably do boxed sets with 4 characters per movie.
  20. here's a video clip of the scene that photo was taken from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9hpP7d2-wo
  21. Here's a new pic of the full Spidey costume (this time it's a side view): http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=73440 The complaints are going to rise a thousand fold...
  22. I may not have given her a 4, but I certainly agree with your assessment about the head looking enormous due to the hair piece (the same problem I have with most of the Thor mates) and the detailing is too intense in her face and the entirety of her chest block. I had never thought about the bracelets adding to the bulk, but when I took them off, I realized that paint would have been the better way to go. After reading your review, it gave me ideas on how to tweak it: I switched out the head with wave 6's Jean figure (and added the detailing for the mask) I trimmed the shoulder pads down to just the shoulder parts, and glued them on so that she could have head mobility (and to show the neck, adding to a more slender look) and I altered the detailing on the chest block (via photoshop, for now, since painting would take me forever and I wanted to see how it would look before doing all the work) and I took the bracelets off and painted the wrists. I'm less confident about any detail work I might add to the legs. I don't know if adding anything to it would help... Overall, it's not enough to prop it up to a 10, but it's better than a 4 or 5 (imo, at least)
  23. I was in the same spot - by far the most frustrating head I've ever had to deal with. I finally shaved it down a little with an exacto knife, which worked wonders
