  1. incredible work, as always! Zombie Sentry has really effective details that definitely scream 'blood and guts', as if he just finished chowing down on his latest victim
  2. Here is the scan, with some slight editing to clean up the black spaces
  3. Haha, wow it looks like a lot more in your photo than what I thought it was as I was packing the box! I'm glad you like everything, and I hope you can find great uses for all of it. Also, great job guessing! I didn't give any clues, and I didn't sign the drawing, just to make the guessing a bit more difficult (but I figured the return address and the drawing were enough by themselves - and indeed they were) Happy Birthday!
  4. What I always wondered was why nobody bats an eye at the fact that all the beasts are aliens, yet they're based on Earth animals. I get that these creatures need some kind of relate-able component, but I still wonder why it doesn't occur to most people (or maybe it does and nobody really talks about it?) that we're using what we know of Earth lifeforms to imagine what extraterrestrial animals would be like. but a rattle on the end of a cobra tail is weird
  5. I had been wondering if Cap's upcoming movie was going to set up for Winter Soldier to be part of the MCU going forward. If so, my first thought was that a Winter Soldier/Black Widow movie might be a logical next step. But who knows what direction the film is going to take things in (and I'm sure it would fall under a lot of criticism if the first female-lead Marvel movie was taking some of the spotlight off of her and putting it on another guy). But regardless of what form it takes, I'd love a Black Widow movie, and was kinda surprised that the gears for her solo film didn't start moving a lot sooner than this. Her appearance in IM2 seemed like it was setting up for something bigger than what we've seen of her so far... As for Hawkeye, I agree that he needs his own movie. And I know Jeremy Renner wants more screen time for his character. I don't know if Marvel is going to feel a need to give him a solo feature, but I for one would love it.
  6. I didn't know that about the name, having never read the comic (though I've always been fond of the artwork. Sadly, I cannot collect all 40 billion comic titles that I think look interesting AND collect Minimates. I wish I was rich ). I also didn't know where the connection came from. I should work on being more knowledgeable on my favorite childhood franchise... This. A thousand times, this. I had two Foot Soldier figures from the '87 line when I was 6, and I had to use my imagination to multiply them into dozens for my turtle figures to fight. I fully intend to eliminate the need to use my imagination with the minimate versions. A Foot Soldier army dump would make me so happy... and broke.
  7. I'm definitely pleased that these will be 2 packs instead of box sets (easier for army building). Sadly, I haven't been keeping up with the new cartoon - can someone tell me if Usagi is part of the latest incarnation?
  8. This. Now, I'm not the biggest expert on Godzilla, but the way this G Minimate looks reminds me a lot of the old cartoon more than the movies (though I wouldn't guess that that was their intent. just my impression)... and while I understand the choice to go this route of making his old school look, I also had the initial thought of "wait, that is the first Godzilla Minimate we're getting?" ... but then I realized that they are probably in it for the long haul on this license (I hope so, at least), so it's more than likely that we'll get several versions of Godzilla (including a BD one, but hopefully also a less old school design). I can't see them releasing another box set without a Godzilla (as I'm sure everyone already assumes), so here's hoping there will be a 'something for everyone' offering over the course of several box sets. Maybe even one for the new movie...? and, of course, ignoring the Emmerich disaster
  9. YESSSSS YESSSSSSS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I had always kept myself from hoping DST was ever going to make TMNT mates, for fear of being perpetually disappointed every year that they weren't announced. But this makes me so happy! Life could leave a massive flaming turd on my head and I wouldn't mind so much, because I'm getting TMNT minimates can you tell I'm excited?
  10. Nice find, Jeff! Between the couch and the extra accessories these sets have, I can't imagine passing on this license. It's little touches like these that make civilian mates worth getting. I'm having a hard time making out what accessories are next to the soda can hand... it looks like a book and several metal items (star trek phasers, maybe?)
  11. Got my shipment from Luke today, and I have to say I'm surprised at how much I love this wave - specifically Strucker and Cap. I knew I would love WS and Falcon, and of course I knew I needed to army build the Elite Hydra (soooo glad I did!), but I didn't think too much about 'Fighting Chance Captain America' until I had him in hand. I should know better by now, but I actually thought he was a bit of a dud based on the photos. Having him in hand, though, has cemented him as one of my favorites so far this (fairly young) year. Bravo, DST, on another outstanding wave.
  12. I hope it works out well for you. I just had a similar move, from NY where I lived for the last 20 years, to OR (3,000 miles away - literally the other side of the country), and I went through the exact same situation with my MInimates. They were the second largest portion of all my moving boxes, right after my books. I had to open 'mates that I had been holding onto for years, and packing them turned out to be a much bigger project than I ever would have expected. Anyway, good luck with the move! Hopefully you'll score a nice place where you can display your mates instead of having to keep them in the storage boxes like I've had to do for the most part
  13. Has anyone guessed Godzilla? I have no idea if this is news or not, but DST has the license for Godzilla (as evidenced by some photos they just recently posted on facebook), so it's a possibility. And with the new movie being hyped, this would make for a pretty big property for DST...
  14. Giraffe and Cobra are the standouts for me, but they're all amazing. The Shark is killer, and I love that they actually made a COW look fierce (although, I would have prefered sculpting on the chest piece instead of just a tampo) ... And yes, I concur with Nervous that this wave takes it up a notch by taking the 'less is more' approach. I was okay with one of each of the first wave, but this wave is begging me to army build several different characters. I'm so glad they didn't stop at the first wave
  15. My guess would be that the plants are more like mates than PVCs. In the games, they're pretty much the same size as most of the zombies, so it wouldn't make sense to scale them down to 'pet' size (but could the plants be considered actual mates? These are certainly among the most creative/unique designs that could still be called Minimates). Plus, I don't think 2 mates and 3 pets could reasonably justify a MSRP of $19.99, but 5 mates can pull it off. And this would be a perfect license for army dumps. Sunflowers and Pea Shooters to go up against my Walking Dead herds
  16. This is... literally the last license I would have ever expected to be 'mated. AND I LOVE IT
  17. I must have missed that one That reason is exactly why I like this thread. It gives people a place to voice an opinion in a way that (potentially) doesn't ruffle feathers the way it would if it were posted in the line's own thread. I love that people have the presence of mind to come here and say "I don't care for Aliens Minimates" instead of going to the Aliens thread and saying "pass" or some such. It certainly helps to keep things civil, for exactly the reasons you listed. And I love reading this thread because it reminds me that even if I personally think a property is the coolest thing ever, not everyone needs to agree with me. Sorry if you feel like you're being ganged up on here. I can't speak for everyone, but personally, as much as a dislike a line, I still want DST to find success. Every line or property they can't get off the ground is time (and money) wasted on their part. So my comment wasn't against you per se, just more of a 'I wouldn't want DST to get burned from this' even though I personally will be avoiding it.
  18. That is true. And like I said, I'm not complaining, it just occurred to me that I could potentially have a dozen more Aliens for my army with a different assortment. BUT, I know DST understands the market better than I could, and obviously they're offering something to consumers that has an appeal. I mean, I'm still buying several sets * edited for horrible grammar
  19. fixed that for ya But on a serious note, I dare say this is going to be my favorite army dump ever, on par with the Cylon army dump. The only thing not taking it past the Cylon dump would be the inclusion of 3 humans that could be 3 more Aliens (when adding up multiple orders, those 3 spots become a much bigger number). Not that I'm complaining though
  20. I can't say that I'd ever hope for any of DST's products to fail ... but I'm with you in regards to a distaste for all the View Askew stuff (and also anything by Tarantino). But I will say that Kevin Smith writes some good comics, and Tarantino is great with dialogue.
  21. Sad news for everyone who wants Taylor Kitsch to reprise his role as Gambit... and all of the rest of us too, I suppose
  22. I was thinking the same thing. I really wish all of your customs (but esp the lizard) were official releases because they look too incredible for me to not have any in my collection
