  1. Given how much the Norman Osborne faces look like John C. McGinley, it's definately "awesome" now we can all make Dr.Cox quick customs with our choice of TWO facial expressions!
  2. It comes with a Slimer Bust which given how much minibust cost is probably the second most expensive item in the pack: -Game: $50 -Bust: $50 -Minimates: $20 -Key-Chain: $10 (?! it does have lights and sound!) Total: $130! Since the Bust makes up most of the cost it gets second billing! a better name would be "Ecto-Platnium Edition" edition, since Ghost are made of Ectoplasm and 5 of the 6 add ins are ghost related and the 6th is the Ecto-1, all tied together in a stupid pun!! But what do I know.
  3. I went to my local TRU expecting nothing and found three pegs FLOWING with minimates. 2 boxes (at least) of the Heroes/Villians wave and 1 box of Wolverines. I was just thinking... hasn't there been a pirated version of the movie out now for a few weeks? Just saying if someone wanted to they *could* have seen Wolverine before the 'mates hit.... it's like the movie leaked just so some jerk on a message board could say "uh, actually the movie's been out on the internet for a week! so DST was late again!!"
  4. I could see a lot of sets turning up on ebay so maybe the pricing won't be so bad.... Minimates are a niche product, if you like Ghostbusters and don't like mini-mates these aren't going to inspire you to buy the 4-packs, especially since Mattel is making figures as well and if you were a causal GB fan who wants figures you'd probably go with those for your plastic fix (ie- Street Fighter fans picking SOTA over Minimates) So if someone wants the bust or the console skin or the key chain and wants to recoupe some of the cost of buying it I bet we see their sets turn up on eBay (similar to how some people here will try to dump off the bust, skin, key chain... possibly game.) .... OR maybe we'll be extra lucky and since it's the Wii version and the PS3/XBox versions are the "better" versions no one will buy it and they'll clearance it out so we won't need to turn to ebay. Either way, I like those mini-mates but not $110+ S&H like especially since they're basically new tempos on all pre-existing parts.
  5. Here's one that is the monster isn't on the table in that picture, truely the monster is standing behind the table (I mean have you SEEN "Something Wilder",the horrors!!)
  6. They are however monsters which are not on the table.
  7. Confrontation Yeah in the Universal Monsters movie Hyde is a monster, but in the musical (has demonstrated with questionable skill by the Hoff in said clip) he is NOT a monster. (at least not in the "transformation into a deformed person" sense, he's a murder so I guess he's a monster in that sense you can call a murder a "monster"... but if being a murder makes you a monster by defination any and all pirates from literature must be banned as well) maybe my view of Hyde is taunted by the musical and it's trying to find a way to let the actor change 'character' on the fly, but I don't find anything in the story that would imply he's a monster, especially when the book is about a PERSONALITY change, a goodman becoming a cold blooded killer. Granted the monsterous Hyde is a fun concept and it's nice ito use when one wants to focus more on Hyde since it makes him visually interesting, but I don't think his turning into a deformed hunchback/hulking giant is really a key part of the character that if taken way destroys the concept.
  8. As I mentioned, I'd like to stay away from 'monster' characters as well thoroughly covered this ground in the 'Monsters for Blood' project. My suggestion is this: If we were considering characters from stories like 'Frankenstein' or 'Little Red Riding Hood' for the 'MfB' project we would have made Frankenstein and the Wolf; for The Mind's Eye I'd like us to focus on the other characters, in this case: Dr. Frankenstein and Little Red Riding Hood (or the grandma, the woodsman, etc.). I was not planning on making the Universal monster/League of Extra Ordinary Gentlemen/Marvel version of Jekyll/Hyde I was thinking about it more in terms of the how the muscial handles Hyde in that he's physically identical to Jekyll just changes his outfit and has a different body language to him (which in minimate translates to I assume a dual-sided face tempo with a second hair piece/coat to turn Jekyll to Hyde), which I think better reflects the point of "dual natures of one person" in the story better then the idea of Jekyll physically transforming into Hyde which makes the story more "I created a monster... who is not me but just swtiches places with me" like he's SHAZAM! or something. If non-supernatural Jekyll/Hyde is off the table I'm not in.
  9. Is the second picture supposed to be Polaris?! I think so yeah. She looks AWESOME! She looks like that armor-suit from "Full Metal Alchemist"... If it gets made into a minimate I bet the designer would be happy, they probably copied the design as close as possible to get a Marvel Legend compatible figure of that character and would probably consider a minimate a "consolation prize" so they at least have something to sit on their desk in scale with a Spider-man while they figure out how to make Iron-Man's next upgrade look like an EVA unit and wonder why their "X23 in GoGo Yubari outfit" design wasn't made into a toy as well.
  10. How come in the control art/sculpt work the 'vest/undone tie' is part of the coat but in that prototype pic it's a tempo? Is that what he has on under the coat-piece or did they change the design? Because having not really watched the Godfather movies (just never got around to it) the main appeal of this set to me is the cool unique suit fronts and if those are getting cut count me out. (although I'm sure this sets gonna sell like gangbusters given how many people like the godfather)
  11. According to Wikipedia (trustworth, I know) that the actor playing "Weapon XI" was Reynold's stunt double. That means 1 of 3 things could be going on: 1-Lazer-Baraka is not Deadpool but Hasbro calls him such since he's played by the same stunt actor, like maybe they were given a stack of reference photos and Scott Adkins name was on some of the Deadpool photos as well as "Weapon XI" so they extrapolated this meant Deadpool *IS* Weapon XI (unlikely since licensing would probably correct them) 2-To avoid the Spoiler this is the secret 'last boss' off the movie they're calling him "Deadpool" since the stunt actor probably kinda looks like Reynolds and has red pants, similar to how Liam Neison's action figure in Batman Begins was called "Ducard" and Ken Watanabe's was "Ra's Al Ghul" up until the movie came out, only then did his figure get reissued as "Ra's Al Ghul" that way they can produce the toy and have it out in time for the movie's release without spoiling everything for the viewers (I bet that's why we haven't seen any designs of a Weapon XI minimate yet) 3-It's Deadpool but Reynold's for whatever reason didn't want to wear the make-up required to be mouthless Lazer-Baraka so his stunt double plays the role, so they get listed as "Weapon XI" and "Deadpool" in cast list but are both in fact the same character. The movie's logic being "well in the comics he got healing factor but wouldn't it make more sense if they gave him ALL the powers?!" I'm guessing it's either 2 or 3, 2 is the hopeful answer though 3 seems pretty likely.
  12. I agree, I have no interest in 'the Ultimates' but I'm gonna get him to go with my movie Iron-Man mates although speaking of which, now that SLJ has signed a 9 movie deal with Marvel Studios, the odds of getting a movie Nick Fury have greatly increased... but really, how much different can it be then this one? (the likeness is already spot on and the outfit is virtually identical... maybe this means they can save that slot for Iron-Man variant number #28)
  13. Cammy is different in that she's female, yes. There's a HUGE amount of Cammy product avalible almost solely because of this... she's more popular then Akuma by far. But what about Fei Long, Dee Jay, and T.Hawk, they weren't in SF2 and are only slightly older then Akuma (Akuma was introduced into Arcades around the time SSF2 hit the Super Nintendo) so at what window does the "moderate" window close for SF fandom and "hardcore" open? But this discussion has shown me anyway why SF minimates never took off. "hardcore" Street Fighter fans hate it when only the original 8+Bosses get used for a product (SF4 gathered TONS of hatred when first announced because it decided to be SF2+ 4 new guys) and if they weren't into minimates and wanted an SF line they had SOTA so there was no need to get into minimates. If you like minimates but haven't followed Street Fighter for 15 years then a lot of the newer more unique characters are going to be passed up (it'd be like saying "we don't need a 'Deadpool' minimate if it's not Stan Lee era it's not iconic enough for people to want it!) and if you don't know who Akuma is and weren't into minimates to be begin with you'd never know SF minimates excised to begin with, let alone find a reason to purchase them. So SF minimates were for the very small niche of minimate fans who actually played a non-SF2 Street Figter and that's why they failed.... hell, let's blame the Darkstalkers too, since really people only know Morigan and Felicia (because of fan service products and the fact they made into the MvC games) any male DS character is action figure poison.
  14. that's not a "moderate" Street Figter fan, that's "I played the game once and then ignored the series"... by this logic a "moderate" Spider-man fan can call Venom an "obscure" character since they only read Stan Lee's run. Do you know Cammy and Fei Long and what not? or are they also "hardcore" since they're in Super SF2
  15. Akuma's been in every SF/SF cross-over game since Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (except SF3:Next Generation and MvC1, but he was returned in both games sequels/upgrades so that seems a little moot) as well as X-Men:Children of the Atom and Cyberbots... He's hidden in most of those games, sure, but it's not like in this internet age only the 'super elite' fans know hitting up select screen or beating the game once will unlock him. To say only 'hardcore' SFers know who he is to say the 'normal' SF fan stopped playing at Super Street Fighter 2 and then avoided every SF game since except the first SF3, and the only Marvel fighter they played was either Marvel Vs Capcom 1 or Marvel Superheroes or not made by Capcom. Akuma is a VERY well known and popular character... I'd be far more shocked to met someone who considers themself a fan of SF enough to pick up any merchandise NOT knowing who Akuma is (especially NECA, SOTA, Toy-Biz, and Resaurus have/are going to sold figures of him in the past)
  16. means. The syntax is pretty messed up, but if I understand this correctly did Capcom discontinue the SF2 mates because they were too sexy or ARE THEY BRINGING THEM BACK (only less sexy)? I think the "back with" is the confusing part of that as it seems like people are reading it as "Back With More..." not "Back When We Worked With..." It seems to be saying "Back when we worked on Street Fighter Mini-mates Capcom wanted us to make them less sexy" probably refering to stuff like the amount of cleavage Morgan could show and maybe Chun-Li's face since he lips aren't as pursed as most mini-mates nor her eyes as sparkley (I wouldn't be surprised if it related to the unreleased Felicia too... although if they had to be less sexy why is Mini-mate Dan wearing less clothes then in game Dan?!?)
  17. Kip wanted to say thanks for getting to be a runner up, I'll let her type the response: That was a very fun contest! I loved looking at all the very creative and fun entry, and I'm very flattered to be an honorable mention, thank you so very very much! ^_^ (especially bride of Frankenstein, that one kicks ass!) Thank you again so much ^_^ ~Kip
  18. I wouldn't want Extreme Ghostbusters 'mates (well, maybe Kylie since she was the only original new character, the others always seemed to be 'Latino Pete', 'New Winston', and 'Handicapped Ray' in look and persona) but speaking of animated Ghost Busters I hope they're able to make minimates based on "The Real Ghostbusters" I know it's a VERY big deal Mattel and Art Asylum have gotten rights to use Bill Murry's likeness (probably why he's in the first set, so they can get the figure out before he changes his mind again), but I like the Real Ghostbuster designs better and they were a bigger part of my childhood. So since Mattel is doing figures of the Real Ghostbusters in their line I hope after the movie box sets we see some animated 'mates too.
  19. Cutting it close to the deadline but here's "my" (really my friend Kipestshin's entry but she didn't want to make an account just to enter), it's a Medusa! the photos came out WAAAAY too red, so this one is tinted, custom Sokka is there to show it's not a Black and White photo edit Backshot (also with altered light source) Scan to show true colors (with Sokka so you can compare to original image) artsy indeed! Kip says she's going to post up her reference drawing later tonight (or maybe tomorrow) on her deviantart which can be found here: http://kipestshin.deviantart.com
  20. I think these 5 would be REAL easy to make into mates, all you'd need is a sticker/decal for the faces and the following: Penn: -Tony Stark -a belt/washer/something to add a cm or two of height -modified Cassandra Cain/Harley Quinn hair for pony tale. -Decal face Teller: -Suit coat (open to make him look less bulky then Penn) -Black mate body with flesh hands -black version of Professor X suit top (can be made from Decal pack at Luke's blog) -Penguin Feet -Face Decal Adam: -Black Torso/Arms with flesh hands (arms painted flesh to be short sleeves) -Chef Duff lower Torso -a decal for a 'crazy shirt' logo of your choosing -face decal with hair printed on (representing his "short hair" look from earlier seasons) ... actually you could probably just use a Hunt Mate in place of making a logo shirt and duffs pants, but that's insanely costly Jamie: -Chef Duff arms and torso (no jacket) replace charm city logo with a decal representing his work shirt. -Black pants of your choosing -Face Decal -Chef Duff's hat (or maybe M.Bison's) modified to look like a berette -Face decal -Oh, and the Chef Duff accessories can double as Mythbusting gear Alton: -Playboy Tony Stark would make for a lovely "Iron Chef" host Alton base, not sure if there's a bowler shirt piece out there to make Good Eats Alton though... not sure how his hair would work, Buffalo Bill or BSG Baltar could double for the new "long mid-life crisis hair" style he's sporting now but his original hair or the "Feasting on Asphault" 'Crazy Professor Beard' look are harder to match.
  21. I've got some personal favorite design characters but I don't think they'd really translate to minimates: Darkwing Duck/Duck Tales, Gargoyles, Beauty and the Beast are all things I would be interested in owning but I know they wouldn't lend themselves to the style very well. So something I WOULD like that WOULD lend itself (sorta) to the style: Emperor/Kronk's New Groove/School: uh, I got tired of trying to work these into waves, so: -Kuzco(Emperor Outfit)/Pacha -Kuzco (School Uniform)/Malina -Kronk (movie outfit)/Yzma (Face tempo based on TV show design) -Kronk (school uniform)/Principal Amzy -Kronk (Chipmonk Scout Leader)/Ms. Birdie -Chicha (removable baby-bump chest piece so you can pick if she's ENG Chicha or later episodes Chicha!)/Kronk's Father (2.5 inch arms on a 2in base with Penguin feet!) -Mr.Moleguaca/Guaca (cuz their names are simialr) -Yatta/Matta (cux they work together, and I think are related) -You/Too -Kavo/Ramon (just to round it out) -err.... I have no clue how they'd make Pacha's kids in scale or a Llama Kuzco/generic Llama or Bucky that would be in minimate style so those don't get made thus making this a woefully incomplete series.
  22. http://www.larrygscale.com/servlet/the-157...-G-SCALE/Detail This would probably be more fitting though
  23. WOOOOO! I got them in an adventure of much sadness, excitement, and other adventure terms. On my lunch break I hit up the TRU closest to my work, it was PACKED but I made my way back to the action figures and lo and behold: MINIMATES! Unfortunately someone else had gotten to them first (if it was someone here though, I guessm for them it was fortunate) and all the Iron mans, Venoms, and Kravens were gone. I walked up to the line with my lone Shocker and Hulk packs, only to find it miles long and my lunch break dangerously near ending. I decide to leave the 2 sets I had on the shelf next to my spot in line and head back to work, thinking it better to be without minimates then written up for tardiness... but for the next 2 hours at work my mind is clouded with angry thoughts: Why didn't I wake up earlier and check that TRU? Why didn't I go on my day off yesterday? Who beat me to them?!? When I finally got off work I just drove, drove off to the TRU closest to my house... I angrily marched back to the Action Figures and saw a lone Iron Man pack, I reach over the cart of a family looking at Ben10 figures to get it, I know it's insanely rude to that and I just made myself the 'ugly nerd toy hoarder' in their minds doing so, but I wasn't going to let that set get away again. I looked around the action figure isle for a bit to see it the other sets where around but found nothing, so I went to check out and again found a monster line. Deciding if I was stuck in a TRU I'd make the most of it I went up to the Customer Service desk and asked the gentleman if they had any more "of these" in stock, handing him the Iron Man pack. Scaned and nope "no more in back" he said. So I say to myself "eh, at least I got this one!" and walk back to the action figures, scanning the shelves to kill time until the line dies down. It's then I remember the recent lawsuit Mattel won againist MGA, making it so all Bratz dolls had to be recalled. Out of curiosity I wanted to see if this TRU had pulled them so I walk to the way back of the store to check it out (I honestly wonder if they WILL be recalled or if stores will just sell them until they're legally forced to call them back) they didn't, but as I'm walking back on a shelf next to the educational toys, facing AWAY from where I normally toy hunt: THE OTHER 11 PACKS OF MINIMATES!!! That's right: MY TRU STOCKED THE MINIMATES IN THE EDUCATIONAL TOY ISLE. NOT ACTION FIGURES. Just put that in bold in case anyone else's TRU is like that. I snatched up the other Iron Man, and of each other set and head for the front. The monster line having died down I've paid and left the store in under 5 minutes. so it was a bad then extremely good day for me
