Charitymates 5: Fighting for Japan

Recommended Posts

I hosted the images through my dropbox, so I dunno if that has any effect on who can see them. I'm overly paranoid about using it.

Edit: There, changed the image hosting to Photobucket, so maybe they'll work for everyone now.

Alright guys here's mine, This is my first custom ever, so this was very new to me.

Her name is Kyoku Botoukai, or Kyoku san to some. She is half japanese half korean, Age 24. She performs at her fathers local theater, as a violinist. Both her parents are in performance arts, her mother as dance coordinator and her father, a composer. when she was young, she trained with her korean grandfather, Dol sensei, Known for his mix art of Taekwondo and kung fu. Though her father and mother did not approve her training, she came to master the techniques her grandfather taught her. When her grandfather passed away, She came to develop a new technique Ken no Baaru(fist of the ball), using her love of soccer and martial arts.(like Shalion Soccer).

Recently she heard of a tournament, featuring some the world's strongest fighters. Though she will have no time to practice for the big concert the next day, she plans on entering the tournament. Aware of the risks, she is more than ready to fight. She is willing to put her life on the line, to proof that her grandfather's training did not go in vain. Her desire is to go the distance, to fight hard for the love of her family, and hopefully be able to perform at her father's concert.

Nice stuff SErge-the drawn pictures really add to the character.

And in the same category of inexperienced customizers, my challenger enters the fray:

Ninja Monkey

100_1904.jpg

Backstory:

He's a monkey that's a ninja.

Finishing move:

被扔的排汇物飓风 (loosely translated to 'hurricane of the flung poo')

If he wins the tournament and gets whatever his heart desires, he'll ask for a banana.

You can't see it, but he's got a tail and sword sheathes on his back.

After doing this, again I wonder how some of you can make customs all the time. This didn't turn out like I had hoped, but I'm just pleased to actually finish this year and glad I can participate (and hopefully raise at least something from him). And sorry I didn't get a headshot before packing him up, but the ones I took sucked and I didn't check until he was packed (my camera is acting up).

first of all let me apologize for the lateness of my contributions, my family is in the process of packing and selling our home to relocate from the east coast to the west coast so i haven't had a lot of free time, anyway i finally got my submissions for charity mates 5 done so here they are:

Reptile

a Reptilian humanoid Ninja, very little is known about him Due to his Extreme hatred of Humans, a vicious fighter he is master of many forms of martial arts is known to employ a variety of weapons as well as his razor sharp teeth and claws and devastating tail attack.

Reptile1.jpg

Reptile2.jpg

Brutus McBuff

8 time and current Heavy weight Wrestling champion of the WWC (world wrestling conglomerate) Tired of people saying "wrestling is fake" and that he isnt a real fighter Brutus has set out to prove them wrong he views the tournament of fighters as the perfect way to shut up the naysayers once and for all.

Brutus1.jpg

brutus.jpg

Kiana

a young girl of Japanese/Hawaiian descent most write her off as just a child, and certainly no threat to win the tournament, she is however undefeated in all her previous fights, some chalk this up to her being a kid that no one wants to hurt, her distracting wardrobe and body, or sheer luck, but the truth is she is a tremendously agile and deadly fighter.

Kiana2.jpg

Kiana3.jpg

Muscleman

what can be said of this strange, yet talented fighter, he's Big, he's Tough, he likes to fight, and he's...........Pink! very little else is known of him besides his record, hundreds of fights, hundreds of victories and he calls himself MUSCLEMAN!

Drgn, now I can see your pics. Thanks. Is the sword sculpted or does it come from a different toy line? Cool, though.

Serge, nice to see you start customizing. Cool. That first drwaing is awesome. You're pretty talented!

Granny, that Monkey is hilarious! Very clever use of those Venom hands! I really like it!

Matt, really cool bunch of fighters! I like the pink Muscule Man most. He looks a little artificially bulked up, like one of those Takeshi's castle guys. Regarding Kiana, I always thought about using black paint on a female chest piece to outline the waist. That rather bulky design on female characters always bugged me a little. I think it works fine. I'd also add some black paint on the sides of the chest piece to make it even clearer.

Undeadpool, I really like the floating effect on Juju!

I just came across the ComicsMix March Madness Tournament, and had an timeconsuming idea that would require an awful lot of work, but would be cool.

What they did there was a single-elimination tournament, where webcomics faced each other and people could vote on every single duel to decide who will come out on top. Wouldn't that be an incredible way to celebrate our little Tournament of Fighters here? The first round matches could be draw by lot. From that point on, via polls, 'verses could vote for their favorit and the winner would go on for the next round. You know the system, I don't have to try to explain it, right?

I think that would be freaking amazing, but it would take a lot of work. We'd needed polls for each round - maybe here at the 'verse - and the bracket thing.

Just a thought. What do you think?

We could have nice smack talk, right? (Oh, come on! R.A.T. with all his high-tech frippery won't stand a chance against Ninja Monkey's powerful four-fist-funk-o-rama! Go Monkey!)

OK, here's my post! (Sorry for it being so lengthly.) Two brand new fighters, plus a totally redone Enki and a background/finisher for my luchadore.

Let's start with Enki The Forsaken:

100_7150-1.jpg

A once proud Shogun warrior, Enki was cursed by an evil sorcerer by being bound to a suit of armor for eternity. Enki is a soul of a warrior trapped in a cold, emotionless body. Entering the tournament, Enki hopes to win and finally brake the shackles that hold him on Earth and finally pass on to the spirit realm.

100_7146.jpg

100_7143.jpg

Finishing move: Soul Stare.

100_7152.jpg

Next, a new challenger approaches. Jade:

100_7133-1-1.jpg

A master of the extremely sharp Chinese sword, Jade could possibly be the greatest threat to the tournament. But it's not her deadly blade that's to fear; it's what lies inside her. Jade's heart holds the spirit of a fire dragon, locked there by her father to save her life after it being pierced by a sword of a Mongoloid. Jade enters the tournament to free the dragon from her heart so she can live a peaceful life once and for all.

100_7134-1.jpg

100_7135-1.jpg

Finishing move: Dragon Claw.

100_7136.jpg

Next is Rodney Riggs, leader of the chain gang.

100_7138-1-1-1.jpg

Rodney Riggs was once the greatest MMA fighter the league had seen. But after killing someone in the ring, he was forced to leave. His anger towards the league grew, and he eventually turned to a life of crime. Illegal cage fights and gambling was just the start. He eventually formed his own gang of criminals, the Chain Gang. Riggs enters the tournament to get revenge on the "phonies who kicked him out for being too good".

Finishing move: Tether-ball

100_7153-1.jpg

and finally, Azul Diablo gets a background:

Taking up Luca after his village had been over run by drug lords, the newly named Azul Diablo had to fight back. However, after being sponsored by the leading libre manager, the fame and glory got in his way. By the time he had a chance to return to his hometown, it was destroyed. He enters the tournament to find his lost friends and family and finally give them the life they deserve.

Finishing move: Devil's leap

I agree! We should do this!

OK, since you people start to like the idea, I've surfed the interwebs on Norrin's board and found the things I needed to do this in a pretty smooth way. So I'm volunteering to organize it.

The Tournament of Fighters will be a single-elimination tournament and you will be able to vote on every single fight in each round. How you decide who should win is completely up to you. You can base your votes on the abilities of the fighters, the pure awesomness of the custom design, your gut feelings or a chicken oracle. Your call. Most important: this is supposed to be fun!

I talked to Luke and we agreed on having it run with the auctions (2 waves). Depending on how many fighters will enter the tournament at the end - right now there are 34 - there will be 5 or 6 rounds (final, final-4, final-8, final-16, you get it.) I will create a new thread where the polls will be hosted and you should have about 2 or 3 days to cast your vote in each round.

The software I'm planning to use right looks pretty cool and creates a bracket where you can have a closer look at each individual fight with some nice features. Here's a sneak peak. (I used the first four customs in the thread as guinea pigs. Sorry BrobotC, TM2 and Punisher.)

Now, here's a little problem with all this: That bracket is designed to work with 32 fighters. As you know, we already have two more. The next bigger bracket system works with 64 participants. So what does this mean?

Either, some of the customizers who created multiple fighters, might take one of them out of the tournament, so we have 32 fighters in the end. (Imagine something like there were qualification matches, or cool intrigues or something like that.)

The other possibility would be that most fighters receive a bye in the first round, drawn at random. (Right now, 30 would receive a bye. Or to say it the other way around, 4 fighters would need some kind of qualifying rounds. If you think about it, mathematically it's pretty easy, right?)

Maybe I figure something out that's more pleasing, but right now these seem to be the options.

Maybe after all the entries are received,we can start a poll by which fighters seems to oppose each other (Atlas vs. Reptile, Prometheus vs. Enki, Azul Diablo vs. The Black Russian, etc.)

That is a good idea, but it would mean we'd need a lot more polls before we could even start the whole thing. Therefore I'd say first round is drawn at random. I just write the names on little notes and draw them. What I could do is, let the fighters who have sepcific enemies (i.e. R.A.T. vs. Voodoo Mama Juju) meet in the first round. If you - the guys who did them - think that's cool, I can arrange that. If we don't do it that way, there could be the possibility they never ever meet. Your call, just let me know.

Sooooooo, what do you guys think?

I think it's easier than my idea. I was looking into a video game. Some simple fighting engine, that I was looking at cracking open and changing the character models. I could do it, maybe, if I wasn't running on this dinosaur.

A way to get around the extra characters is have bonus secret fight bosses maybe. Also, would we vote on the winner, or would we actually be able to argue powers and wins/losses? cause is we vote, wouldn't it just go to the best designed and ergo most popular mate? Leaving those of us customizers that aren't Boyd amazing out in the cold?

Now THAT would be amazing!

That would be the case if we'd just declare the custom which sells for the most as the winner, right?

How you decide who should win is completely up to you. You can base your votes on the abilities of the fighters, the pure awesomness of the custom design, your gut feelings or a chicken oracle. Your call. Most important: this is supposed to be fun!

I really think it should be totally up to you. It's not necessary to vote on the best design - which still would be very subjective - you can concider everything you like. If you go for the design, that's cool. If you think the backstory gives you a hint on who might win a fight, that's fine, too. If it's your gut, that's cool, too! It's not easy to actually compare the abilities of all these fighters, since they are so amazingly diverse. And you have to keep in mind the "anti-Boyd-effect": One could easily do a lame head-swap custom and explaining this guy has accidently received the power of Galactus AND Superman (without the Kryptonite problems) AND Howard the Duck, so it'd be pretty clear who comes out on top, right? (But still, even

, right?)

But I guess a little smack talk and banter is completely OK. Root for the characters you think should win. But expect other to object. This is supposed to be fun
