TM2 Dinobot
I was reading today this article in Entertainment Weekly. Apparently MGM is all but dead, and more likely than not will be ties up in lawyers for the next decade. Of course while reading it I wanted James Bond minimates more and more, but I had to wonder what does this do to the licensing rights for Minimates in general? http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/08/05/this-wee...ames-bond-dead/
bilbofett
I guess it depends on how long the contract is for. any legal wranglings the studio is having 'now' shouldn't affect the deal DST made with the studio, unless DST bails, if they can. cdubya
Hmmm, that is interesting (though not surprising). I'm sure that all of their catalog will just be absorbed by Warner/Sony/or another gobbling-giant (which could consequently make any future licenses more difficult/expensive to negotiate. As far as what this means for DST, that is a good question for Chuck. I just keep hearing Bill Murray (ala Ghostbusters)-"Ohhhh Johnny; did you ever back the wrong pony!" And so ends another chapter in the history of Minimates (but hopefully the beginning of another). Edited August 11, 2010 by cdubya
buttheadsmate
Seems like we're going to get a new Bond movie after all ................ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12168421 Edited January 11, 2011 by buttheadsmate
Twisted Two-Face
Seems like we're going to get a new Bond movie after all ................ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12168421 Wow. I'm actually shocked. More with them keeping Craig and his storyline going. No one kill me, but i hate this little now-trilogy MGM's been doing. i only kinda-enjoyed Casino Royale...it certainly didn't do for me what Goldfinger, Moonraker, or Goldeneye did. THOSE were great movies....and Quantum of Solace, well i'm sorry but i fell asleep. I couldn't follow it, and it was just plain old boring. I can't see Craig as Bond either...I'm a Roger Moore guy. The only Bond i was ever iffy on was Dalton, and maybe SLIGHTLY Brsonan (at least he had the look down)...until Craig. He places bottom for me. I just CAN'T get into his acting, especially as Britain's Best...maybe he's just too statuesque, i don't know. This movie is going to have to do a lot to wow me; Bond is one of my favorite franchises, and i'd still campaign for Minimates to this day. But MGM and Craig have really made me want this franchise to die. Really sad...
hellpop
I agree with you, TTF (can I call you TTF?). I didn't care much for the other two Craig movies either. They have their good points, to be sure, but I think they were more concerned with making action movies then they were with making Bond movies. And Bond movies aren't action movies, and Connery, Moore and the rest weren't straight-up action heroes. I thought all the elaborate chase scenes and pyrotechnics were inappropriate for a guy that's supposed to be a spy. Meaning, not trying to draw attention to himself. As for Craig, he's fine at the action stuff, but he just looks like an out-of-place thug the rest of the time. He can't pull off the nuance the character should have. My two cents, anyway. The_Donster
See, but I think that is the point of the newer movies. We're seeing Bond early in his career, where he is still a blunt instrument and not the polished spy he becomes. I love the old Bonds, but it became more about the stunts and gadgets and not about a good spy-action movie. These remind me of the early Connery Bond films, which I plan to get on BD eventually. Right now I'm waiting for a better release to Quantum of Solace BD, like they did for Casino Royale.
TM2 Dinobot
If it's so early, why is Judy Dench still M? Daniel Craig is Borne, not Bond. If you want to have a British Jason Borne, that's fine. Those movies were good. But don't call him James Bond. It isn't working for me. it hasn't worked for me. There was only one thing in QoS that worked for me and she was waring a trench coat.
Trekker 42
I like Craig. I really really like Craig. He is, to me, James Bond as written by Ian Fleming. Cold. Usually uncaring. Slightly brash. And always the best at what he does. Roger Moore, to me, was just a bit silly. Pierce Brosnan gggot lost behind gadgets and villains. Dalton, well, I haven't seen any of his yet. Connery is still the best, From Russia with Love still the best Bond movie I've seen, but I do believe Craig is very much a close second. And depending on if he gets to do more actual acting and less running and blowing s**t up in 23, he might just get to truly how how good he is. karamazov80
Yeah, he isn't quite what I think of as James Bond, but the movies are fun. If you prefer Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan or whomever, you've got the older movies to enjoy. They are doing something new, fresh, and enjoyable with the franchise and that's all I could ask for.
