boyd
I just wanted to give you some more compliments on your Guardians Minimates, because they deserve it. And I look forward to seeing the furry one (and his tree-like friend? Please?) next year.

Lobsterman
I did notice something that might have been missed though. Shouldnt Caps shield be cracked? Huh, I don't know. I always interpreted those squiggly lines on the original art as Kirby-esque reflections or something. It's been a long time since I read the original series, and I admittedly didn't read all of them. Miry? and his tree-like friend? Please? Lobsterman
As I've mentioned before, my wife is really, really into the band Weezer. This past week, she went on a Weezer-themed cruise (exactly what it sounds like... hey, should we do a Minimate cruise? ) with a bunch of her Weezer-related online friends. We've actually met up with a few of them in person at concerts, and they're all really cool people, so I wanted to do something special for her and her cruisemates. I decided to do a limited run of Weezer Cruise Exclusive Minimates: I kept the design simple: the standard Weezer blue, with Rivers Cuomo glasses and a little anchor/Weezer logo tattoo on the chest. The part that ended up being much tricker than I anticipated were the life preservers. I've had a fair amount of success casting parts here and there in resin, so I thought a custom-sculpted life preserver, with it's fairly simple shape, would be no problem to reproduce. It ended up being not-so-great, as the bottom of the piece provided a nice, broad, flat surface for air bubbles to stick to in the mold. So, the tops ended up looking pretty good, but the bottoms looked like swiss cheese. I ended up casting about 40 of these to pick out the best 15 for the set. I mixed a bit of fluorescent orange paint into the clear resin to color it (which I've found works surprisingly well, and doesn't seem to affect the curing process ), and painted the white bands and rope around the edges. I did different face designs for figures she could give to each of the band members, and packaged all of them on custom cardbacks. I labeled each one on the back of the card for the person it was made for, so all are accounted for save one: my wife says one of them got picked up off of a table when its owner wasn't looking. So, there's a random exclusive Weezer Minimate floating around out there in the wild... Edited August 7, 2012 by Lobsterman
Urban Saboteur
Martinex is the 'blue Flame' guy? Definately my favourite, I'm glad you posted up follow up pictures, i'm late commenting on your customs but they look professionally done, awesome job!
Lobsterman
Thanks, Urban! Martinex is a crystalline guy from Pluto, but all of those color facets do sort of look like flames.
Urban Saboteur
Just out of curiosity, because I have absolutely no idea, who is the guy in the red n gold with crossbow? And are these guardians actual super heroes characters from a comic or ones you made up yourself? I ask because way back when i was into ML i thought about making a new 4 super hero team in ML scale, I just wasn't confident enough to make a new team in that scale, where as with Minimates i feel confident enough that i could create them myself. All of your customs look really nice, but i'd say the Martinex one really stands out, I mean if this picture had been posted as part of a DST future figures release for next year i wouldn't even be able to tell the difference Rich
Lobsterman
These are a Marvel team that premiered in the mid 70s IIRC, and were semi popular in the late 80s/early 90s. I confess I didn't read their book extensively; I've just always likes the character designs. The blue and red guy is Yondu, he's sort of like the outer space Native American of the team. boyd
Impressive work on the Weezer Minimates, and a nice job sculpting the life preserver.

pawcanada
If only DST would make a Guardians of the Galaxy boxset... And if the other guy is who I think it is, then I can not WAIT to see him, especially considering my signature. hellpop
There's a Weezer-themed cruise!? Is Weezer actually on it? I dunno, somehow it just seems... so not rock 'n' roll. 'Mates look great, though!

Lobsterman
As has become a tradition, I made another Weezer set for my lovely wife's birthday. I'm running out of album covers with all four guys standing in a row, so I'm not sure what I'll do for sure-fire birthday presents after that...
