  1. I absolutely LOVE the early Spyro games, playing the original trilogy and Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 were some of my fondest childhood memories. I haven't been doing alot of gaming lately since I left my 360 at home while I'm at college, but when I'm home I've been playing alot of Dead Rising (seeing Zombieland helped) and I've got the itch to replay Bioshock next time I'm back there. Other than that I've been playing through Fallout 1 on my laptop (I bought the Fallout collection that has the first 2 games and Tactics), which I've been enjoying.
  2. Wow! Both waves look amazing!!! DEADPOOL FINALLY!!!! I'm especially excited for the Ultimates Wave, its been on my want list since the early days of the line and I'm glad its being made now since DST and Art Asylum have really steped up to the plate with new parts and sculpting with this last few waves. I can't wait for Ultimate Thor and Iron Man, although I'm slightly worried that all the extra bits on Iron Man might hinder articulation (although the armor is supposed to be big and bulky). Ultimate Fury and Cap look perfect. Ultimate Hulk's hair being wonky is definately intentional. In the Ultimate universe whenever Bruce Banner changes into the Hulk, his hair retains its size so it looks tiny on the Hulks head. It looks wierd, but its more realistic and I kinda like it since makes the character look more unique, rather than just looking like a color swap of 616 Hulk. While I'm happy they've done this detail on the minimate, I'm worried the hair will fall out very easily.
  3. Yeah, Silver Surfer did a great job handling the heavy cosmic subject matter that came with the characters. Did you ever see the plan's that were made for a second season? If I remember correctly Mephisto was going to be the main villian of season 2. I'm really happy to see DST and Art Asylum begin to delve into making the cosmic characters, I'm excited to finally get a Black Bolt and Kree Soldier in these waves on top of the Infinity Gauntlet set this fall and I have hopes of seeing more Inhumans (COME ON LOCKJAW!!!) and maybe some Shi'ar as more waves and boxed sets come out.
  4. Gargan doesn't have ears sadly, especially when his face is so detailed. I'll also say that the big head syndrome isn't as bad with his figure as it was with Black Costume Spidey; it's kinda present, but its not too bad. His spider also has six legs on mine which is dumb but I didn't notice it until it was pointed out. Thanks for the pics aswell Mattman, its nice to see the details of the second boxed set and both sets together. Also, how was the sculpt of Norman's hair in your set? Cause mine came out really wonky on one side so it looks weird when it's on his head. I hope it was just for my set and isn't something that's sculpt wide.
  5. I have a quick question, I know its been a great year for minimates and I'm thankful for all of it. But after reading this, I have to wonder. Marvelman minimates?! I know hell would freeze over if they were made, but is it possible?
  6. Nothing too special, the upper body is detailed when you remove the shoulder pads. Norman's face is weird since he's smiling, which makes sense given that the Iron Patriot is designed to be used more as a publicity tool, but is still weird since I'm kinda used to him always scowling. Dakens Claws are black and he even has his tattoo on the exposed part of his left arm. One other thing I forgot to add was that the set comes with an updated marvel poster that includes everything up to wave 28 (the X-Men/Skrull Wave), but not this summers boxed sets except for the Heroes and Villians ones, and a questionare attacted to the bottom.
  7. It wasn't that bad, I kinda tore through it as soon as I got it but nothing was too smushed. To get the free shipping I ordered the boxed set with a T-1 figure from Playmates Terminator Salvation line (I figured it would make a decent sized Skynet Tank to go with my Terminator mates) and while that wasn't heavy enough to smush the Dark Avengers box, there wasn't anything (like packing peanuts) to prevent it from happening. The mates were unscathed, although Dakens Claws were alittle bent (which has been a problem with my Wolverines since Wave 3), but not significantly.
  8. Well that was quick! I just got these in the mail (I did the free shipping but I guess since I live like a state next to the distribution center it only took a day to ship). Sadly though I don't have access to a camera in order to take photos as much as I'd love to; so I'll try to give a detailed runthough/review of the set. Overall though I'm impressed with the set and I feel it really does the characters justice in establishing why they are called the Dark Avengers. Dark Spiderman/Mac Gargan: Despite having his Thunderbolts iteration and a Black Costume Spidey released within the last year, this figure does alot to seperate itself from the other 2 figures. This is accomplished in the detailing of the body and mask which sets a sinister tone for the character. This is continued with Gargan's face which is well detailed and looks very gaunt and faded, Marvel Boy/Noh-Varr: While I don't know as much as I'd like to about the character; the more I look at the figure, the more I like it. His Kree military uniform is intricately detailed and you can tell that time was definately taken to insure that it was as accurate as possible. My only problem is that the face is pretty generic looking, but it does capture the look of the character down. Dark Wolverine/Daken: Another figure that I think captures the essence of the character and is easily one of my favorites of the boxed set. I really like the brown tones of the costume and I feel it does a great job of recreating the look of that suit than the two Brown Costume Wolverines that came out a couple of years ago. The feet and boots are reuses of the Jim Lee Wolverine that came out in the last TRU Marvel Wave, and I like their sleek design. Daken's Face and mohawk are my favorite parts of the character and I almost like it more than the mask. The claws turned out alot better than I thought, but I wanted them to be a little bigger. He also comes with alternate normal hands (I don't know if any of the press releases ever elaborated on this). Iron Patriot/Norman Osborn: Along with Daken, Iron Patriot is one of my favorites of the set. The figure is big, imposing, and over the top; capturing the essence of the character in the process. The shoulders, feet, and helmet, are all new pieces, which I like as they barely hinder movement at all and when combined with the crotch piece and gloves make the character tall, bulky, and imposing (he's almost as tall as Iron Monger). I'm a bit suprised they didn't try to got for a metalic look for the figure, but with the color scheme I completely understand why they didn't do it. My only problem is the hair piece which I haven't been able to put on his head and not have it look funky, but I'm sure it'll look better on the Norman Osborn thats coming out with the T-Bolts set. All in all, I was pleasantly suprised by the set and I'm more than happy to add them to my collection. I can't wait for the second boxed set.
  9. I'm thinking of ordering the Dark Avengers boxed set from DST, how are they as a web retailer?
  10. Given the way things have been going in the modern X-Force comic, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wolverine variant was a bloody version. It'd be a bit of a cop-out, but it's featured significantly enough in the comic that I could see it happening.
  11. awww he could come with a tiny flaming car Count me in for Tommy Boy minimates especially if there's a "Fat Man, Little Coat" variant involved.
  12. I went with Kirby Dots Beyonder, just because of how awesome and really befitting of the character I think it is (although that isn't to say that the disco look isn't totally rad). I would've gone with Monica, but I'm still holding out for a Nextwave boxed set to get her.
  13. Let's just hope DST doesn't have a tooling change of heart like they did with the Octopus' boots from the Spirit 4-pack. If you recall the prototype had those wicked awesome (sculpted) pimpin' boots, but the actual minimate ended up with painted ones instead. Let's hope DST doesn't screw her over and go with the bracelets that Ben Reily, Spider-Carnage and Scarlet Spider ended up with. Fingers crossed. Toes crossed too! Couldn't they just reuse Steel's arm band for the shooters on her? That's what I think they're using. Fingers crossed as well; this set looks amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
  14. I'll take a crack at this as well: -Modern Iron Man (I feel they could take another crack at it using movie parts) and Mandarin -Lee Era Cyclops and Mr. Sinister -Long Pants/Wieringo Thing (Great idea Hellpop) and Annihilus -Modern Thor and Girl Loki (great idea again)
  15. I found a full case of these today at a Toysrus in the Okemos/East Lansing, MI area. I picked up a Punisher and the Wonderman/Union Jack set and I'm throughly impressed with the wave, I'm very happy to get a Union Jack in minimate form and I'm glad to have a new Wonderman (the modern costume is a favorite of mine and I got a wonky Wonderman back in the Avengers wave). I'll also say that the Punisher set is a must for people that missed out on the boxed set and are fans of the comic, I kinda got the impression its more of a comic set over the movie given the bios on the back and both characters look pretty similar to how they do in the comics.
  16. Looking at the list of Paramount movies, I notice Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, and The Warriors listed; I would do terrible things for a series or boxed set from any of those movies. I also wouldn't mind a Cheech and Chong 2 pack.
  17. Ultimate Iron Man; when I was just a wee lad the Ultimates and the Waid/Wieringo run on Fantastic Four were what got me into comic books, so the first 2 volumes of the Ultimates will always have a special place in my heart. That and the Ultimate Iron Man armor has always been a favorite design for me (regardless of the sentimental reasons I like it). If I had close second I'd say Old Man Logan, mainly because the ongoing storyline has been so freaking cool and I never thought I'd see an action figure (well maybe a Marvel Select Figure) let alone a Minimate of him.
  18. Also, it isn't fair to criticize the Spiderman films. Raimi made a controversial decision not to include Spiderman's giant flying, transforming robot, but we should all just get over it, and try to judge those films on their respective merits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcxioU7AMM4 Totally, That said, I totally loved Iron Man, it is easily one of my favorite comic book movies of all time.Say did anyone catch how they played . It was the little references like that on top of the great story, acting, and effects that just made it for me.
  19. Oh, everybody be sure to stay after the credits, theres a scene after the credits thats too freaking awesome for words and despite rumors to the contrary it is in the movie.
  20. http://marvelousnews.com/index.php?catid=23&itemid=11418 Nothing really new here, although This line has me abit worried: "Heralding the continuing success of our Marvel Minimates line, Action Figure Xpress will be offering a limited Civil War Minimates box set – only available on the New York Comic Con floor!" I have never even been to New York City in my life, so if it is limited to that there is fat chance I'll get my hands on it without having to result to the secondary market. I hope it isn't true, this boxed set is awesome for 4 major reasons: 1. It has a totally sweet Spiderman Variant that doesnt involve spiderman's mask in some form of undress. 2. Modern/Extremis Iron Man which is pretty sweet and any Iron Man variant is a good variant. 3. It has an actual Marvel Villian in it. 4. It has Captain freaking America in it, awesome and covered in Thunderbolt and Pro-Reg hero blood.
  21. I bought a 3 inch Kirk (I love classic Trek and have a deep seeded respect for the Shat) with like 4 dollars I got for returning some cans in. Realizing that the figure was probabally the best 4 dollars I have ever remember spending. I then proceeded to look the line up on the web, freaking out when I found out about Marvel minimates (I loves me the funny books). I then waited quite possibly the longest 6 months in my life for the first wave of minimates to come out. Stoopid Art Asylum and DST licensing characters from franchises I actually care about.
  22. Given that the Daredevil and Giant Man pack last year (weren't they one of the exclusives?) tied into the Marvel Zombies boxed set, I wouldn't be suprised to see the exclusive this year be Civil War themed. If thats the case, my guess would be that any of these people would have a shot: -Herc (although I wanna see him in a 2 pack with Amadeus Cho at some point) -Maria Hill -Clor (although I don't really know how he would be different physically than Avengers wave Thor) -Penance (I could see him and when he was Speed Ball in a 2 pack) -Original Captain Marvel -Bill Foster -Cape Killers (as someone was mentioning in the Civil War boxed set thread) -Atlantean Infantry (for a army builder pack with the Cape Killers) -Daniel Rand Daredevil (although other than under the mask, I don't think it would be that different than a normal Daredevil) Also a Hulk/Iron Man 2 pack would be too far fetched, because the films are both being made by Marvel Studios (the recently created Film/TV devision of Marvel).
  23. Yeah, Iron Monger is in the top right corner. His look was confirmed a few months ago when pics of the Hasbro Iron Man movie action figure wave were leaked. Also for those curious, the armor in the back left is the Mark I, the sliver armor in the front right is the Mark II, and the red and gold armor in the back center is the Mark III. I really don't mind the movie waves for Hulk and Iron Man too much, because the waves are going to do a good job at filling out the background characters of both heroes. I REALLY want to get my hands on Nova, but in the mean time we're gonna be getting Pepper Potts, a Business Suit Tony Stark, and James Rhodes from the Iron Man line and we're probably gonna see a Betty Ross, a General Ross, and maybe a Drifter Bruce Banner figure. This doesn't mean that I regularly want movie waves, but knowing that we're getting these figures will take the sting off some.
  24. That sucks about Wildstorm, I would probabally name my first born after DC Direct if they made Astro City minimates.
