  1. Suddenly I so want "her" real name to be Nathania Essex in my head The horror!
  2. Admittedly my memory might be a little fuzzy and I haven't read either of the X-Men series (Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire (dang that's a long title) and Kingbreaker) leading up to WoK yet, but yeah, they did show her with the hound tattoos and blue aura for a while. At least that was up to around midway through the WoK event, when somehow Yeah, that part confused the hell out of me too. Methinks it might have something to do with ?
  3. Saying this is an underwhelming wave just sounds nuts to me; the ratio of visually interesting characters and civilians is mercifully less awful and I can easily see myself getting this whole wave. I just pray to Asgard that Jane Foster gets packed with Thor though, I can't imagine her selling many sets. Dangit, my mind's drawing a blank on her hairpiece. It doesn't look like Wasp's or Gamora's. Might be a new sculpt but I'm not 100% positive. (Heh heh, take off the hair and you've got an instant V For Vendetta Evie Hammond minimate. ) Also, is Agent Coulson wearing the Spirit's sculpted tie? I hope they don't scrimp on that accessory when this wave actually hits stores. Isn't TRU mostly to blame for the Thor/Lady Loki sets not selling? I actually really liked that set too but I guess them oversaturating the Minimate aisles was what worked against their favor.
  4. I always figured it was because she was from the future, and the Shi'ar didn't want to risk futzing with the time stream if they kill her or something. Fortunately they do follow up on this story thread (sort of) in War Of Kings, where .
  5. Been a while since I've kept up with the ol' 616, but... Incoming stunt teaser! Yeah, yeah, I know. Covers (and teaser images) always lie. But that's not why I'm mildly interested in this. Just some random thoughts of mine. I don't have nearly enough faith in Marvel for them to bring anything this nuanced to current X-men continuity (), buuuuuuuuuuut...
  6. Wow. I suspected this was going to be a straight reissue set, but I'm still genuinely surprised they decided to bring back wave 28 Deadpool almost as is. Good lineup, just hope DST doesn't do this too often Just because: Hasn't been used on a comic 'mate yet, but Pepper Potts from the first Iron Man movie wave has the same hair.
  7. It's the return of the Julia Carpenter hair! Still wish Fantomex had spot # 4 though. What, two established X-Men and Deadpool aren't A-list enough? Blame Marvel editorial, not DST.
  8. I have to admit I was intrigued by the "Geek Chorus" bit mentioned here. (They also serve as the tongue-in-cheek justification for Swiss Miss in-story). I may have only a passing familiarity with musicals but I felt that a neat metafictional device like that one could have been put to use in better hands, maybe in a slightly less cheesy work. I think this play was an attempt (albeit a sad one) at pandering to Spider-Man fanboys whilst overcompensating (and how!) on the Broadway-style theatricality. I do sort of feel bad for Bono and Edge who look like they put a lot of work into this thing, but I'm still trying to figure out an adequate enough Bizarro world where this musical could actually be good.
  9. I... it never even occurred to me that the spider that bit Peter could have been female.
  10. A M.A.X. submarine. (Technically the people who staff them would be from the Navy, right? Some Navy people too.)
  11. This one is awful, but I still can't help but laugh at it (don't worry, it's SFW): Palate cleanser!
  12. Chanel Eau de May . I said this in my head as "Eau de Man," which does not make things better.
  13. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ... oh wait a minute. They're serious. The slideshow is especially priceless.
  14. Though I've never seen these in person, I have known of them existing somehow after seeing the Hong Kong-based ads for these. The chocolate the eggs are made out of is by Ferrero Rocher, for the curious. This is probably why. Sad but true.
  15. I know we've already discussed the disappointing lack of sculpted detail for Lizard's head before, but looking at this image it makes better sense to me now why DST went the route they did for this mate. Maybe a newer version of Lizard will be inevitable. He IS a Spidey villain after all...
  16. Epic haul for sure, but the question I'm asking is: Where did minijeff get that neat Art Asylum t-shirt?! Jeez, the minimate bunnies have been busy lately! (Okay, I'm actually just replying because I didn't know they released an 11th Doctor TARDIS playset already. And I am so jealous of that Sonic Screwdriver.*) __ *"That's what she said!"
  17. I will say that 616 visibility and the possibility of a white variant aside, Elektra does seem a tad premature if only due to her wave 1 version(s) still being relatively affordable/accessible to newbies. However I stand by Iron Fist being a necessary redo due to both his costume update and the first 'mate of him being a ToyFare exclusive. Awww. (Short version is that lately my minimate collecting been waylaid by a couple factors, including my inadvertent stumbling into a new pastime. Here's a hint.)
  18. Yup, that sounds like Champions Angel all right. And yes, later Angel 'mates were better at the "keeping wings in place" bit. (It helps that they had actual fully-formed hollows to plug the back pegs into rather than the plain hole.) Superglue is fine if you're the lazy type who doesn't mind losing some of the wing articulation(? I don't know if swiveling in place counts as actual "articulation"). I'm sure some enterprising 'versers out there have tried making them deeper with a drill or a dremel, though that's not exactly my area of expertise. And peg this to me being more of a Generation Y kind of kid I guess, but I didn't even know what a "Mister Mister" was until a certain pop song review on a certain geeky website... I'll call myself "lucky" on that bit.
  19. The new characters are always welcome, and I don't mind reissues of Iron Fist or Elektra (though if she came in her white costume that would quickly jump a few points up in my book). But looking back on this lineup now, I wonder which version of the Hand Soldiers they'll go with for the wave. The Shadowland versions look okay, but I'd personally prefer seeing the more "classic" version, you know? Also, that Minimate Previews headline is just spiffy. Can't help but imagine the inevitable stream of disgruntled collectors protesting that "longest running collectible line" blurb though
  20. No official announcement yet to my knowledge... though given the the MEDIVAC-ish appearance of the helicopter from last Toy Fair and the prime opportunity to re-release this, you'll never know
  21. I imagine the one-toy-a-day thing can NOT be kind to your wallet (went through something similar a couple years back with my one-rock-album-a-week habit), but I always appreciate seeing the variety and creative presentation involved in other people's collections! Your album was fun to scroll through, and I always smile when people can pull off these kinds of photo challenges. Good luck on rounding out your year! (And condolences to your savings account I guess )
  22. Are you kidding me?! Getting a Minimate of Llama Kuzco would be hilarious. Bonus points if we get parts to convert him to Emperor Kuzco too! I still stand by my two dream Disney properties for mateification though: Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. And maybe throw in The Sword in the Stone and The Great Mouse Detective too.
  23. What the heck is wrong with me?! When I first saw that hint I TOTALLY thought Civilian Bruce Wayne. (Get it? "Born with a silver spoon in his mouth" + "playboy" + "Batman") *facepalm* Would have been cool though if Scarecrow had Cillian Murphy's head underneath that sack.
