  1. Hmm....I think you need a Reagan mate to stand behind that podium. Is this the start of the next wave of mates - the Presidential series?
  2. Currently working through Halo 3 for the second time, playing a few matchmaking games here and there. I've also played through the awesome Halo Wars demo and am eagerly waiting for the release. On the PSP, I've been playing Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones. If anyone is interested, my Xbox gamertag is jjwspider, just let me know you're from the MM.
  3. A while back, I-Men released a wave of Hanna-Barbera figures. I have the Blue Falcon and Dynomutt figures with my minimate collection and I think DST could easily create a Dynomutta and Scooby mates, were they so inclined. And yes, I too would buy a Captain Planet minimate. This could be just another indication that we all spend way to much time here.
  4. I'd go with this if these were Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law or Sealab 2021. The rest I couldn't care less about. You know what? Skip Adult Swim, I just want Hanna-Barbera minimates. I would definitely be interested in Space Ghost and Birdman minimates. Add the Blue Falcon and Thundarr for a Hanna Barbera themed wave.
  5. Surprisingly enough, I actually had three of my questions answered - Sara Conner, the Doctor Who designs and any future "classic comic" mates. I do wish we were getting better news about BSG and Star Trek though and I am kind of bummed that they don't think a Firefly/Serenity set would work....
  6. Can I third the request to bring back the Rocky III set? I would love to have Mr. T and Hollywood Hulk Hogan minimates! Personally, I can't see the appeal on this set, but it wouldn't be the first time I try to track a set down long after it's been released (like the Racer X figure from Speed Racer that I could have had for $2 at TRU, only to pass and pay $8 for it later).
  7. I don't know, maybe cause it's a bad idea and will never sell? I disagree. Remember, the Mask was based upon a comic book that was popular enough to spawn a movie. I think that as part of a wider comic-mate related release or as a short-lived wave, the Mask would be successful enough to warrant the effort. Throw the Mask in with Nexus, Madman, Savage Dragon, Spawn, or any variety of non-big 2 comic characters and this could be an easy win for DST.
  8. If Mattel were to allow DST to have a license, I think He-Man and the Masters of the Universe would have to be included in any discussions they had. While I would love to see DC back in the fold, given the 80's nostalgia wave DST has been riding (both now and in the past), I don't see how a He-Man/She-Ra series could fail.
  9. Crap, I'm going to have to work a ton of overtime to be able to afford all the minimates I would like to add to my collection. However, GB, T2 and the Marvel mates all look fantastic!
  10. Gotta love those outfits - makes you wonder why they were never adapted into movies..... Overall, these mates look absolutely fantastic! I'm really looking forward to all of these and especially love Stay Puft and the Slimmer attacked Venkman. Combined with T2, there are quite a few minimates being released that I can't wait to put on display. Now if they could only get those Doctor Who rights worked out and bring us a Robocop set.......
  11. Awesome! I can't wait to add another Union Jack to my collection (thanks to Luke's awesome UJ custom). As for Wonder Man - I've always been more partial to his ionic look but this one looks good to. So who's starting the official TRU Stalking.....er.....TRU Visitation thread?
  12. Like the Godfather line? Thankfully, it appears that DST hasn't given up on this line yet and that they are working to get at least the remaining Cylons out in minimate form. Even though the show is winding down, there are still quite a few BSG related opportuinities for DST to look at - the finale, the summer movie SciFi is working on and even the Caprica pilot. *(No offense intended to anyone looking forward to the GF mates announced at NYCC)
  13. Those aren't rip-offs, those are actual Madballs (I can vaguely remember them having bodies in some '80s cartoon), they must have the license... American Greetings has been contacted to confirm/deny this. So far, they're unaware of any licensing agreement with Shocker. Reideen - if it turns out that they don't have a licensing agreement, do I get to be put on the Shocker Toys hit list as well?
  14. As much fun as that would be to watch, the Mugg design is pretty much a rip off of those Munny/Dunny figures that have been around for several years. Leave it to Shocker to take such an easy design concept and make it look like a pile of crap though! And then stick a "don't touch" sign on it, like anyone would want to Actually, these designs look like almost direct rip-offs of the old Madballs line of toys. I see that they also had a sign up for purchases - was anyone that went to NYCC able to purchase a Shockini? Or was this merely a ruse?
  15. While I can't see this as my cup of tea, there's always the potential these catch on and DST winds up with a hit license. After all, I think Silence of the Lambs had a decent response and one could argue that this has a far larger fan following. Then again, I can't see a B&M store (TRU, Target, etc) picking this up and the overall lack of character designs could hurt. I don't think I'll be in the market for these but if they wind up on clearance, anything is possible.
  16. Some excellent news, thanks for sharing minimateEspo25. Can't say that the Godfather mates do anything for me but I am intrigued by the BSG news. I'm also going to join the chorus, any chance we can get some pics of the NYCC exclusive?
  17. I saw this at work and couldn't post - but this is fantasticly awesome news. I can't wait to get some Ghostbuster mates! Here's hoping that they don't forget about the remaining 'busters and we get some of the more famous ghosts. Oh, and a Stay Puft - no GB line is complete without him.
  18. Just be sure to mention that Darkhawk is playing a major role in a major Marvel Universe crossover and demands his very own minimate styled figure. I think that should be enough to ensure some Darkhawk love. I mean, we're getting Deadpool - he's gotta be next on the list of fan faves. Right?
  19. I would love to see a Dark Avengers or War of Kings set. However, a GI Joe wave or Transformers wave would be rather surprising. Given the slate of movies coming out this summer, I wouldn't be surprised to see their shock annoncement be related to one of these blockbusters. Plus, AA already has a relationship with Hasbro as a result of some of the Transformers busts they've created. Maybe the shocking announcement will be that they've purchased Shocker Toys and the entire Shockini line - meaning people will finally get 2" figures of Madman, Shadowhawk and Dick Tracy . That would be shocking!
  20. The Spirit comic is also being currently produced by DC. Granted this is through a licensing agreement, but there is nothing in place that would necessarily prevent DC from doing Watchmen Minimates if they wanted to. It also wouldn't be the first time that Minimates and Kubricks were produced for the same line at the same time - so the two lines don't have to be mutually exclusive. Not saying that this is likely to happen, but there don't appear to be any contractual reasons why DC couldn't pursue this if they wanted to.
  21. I was just looking at those. They've also got some really nicely-priced series sets with your choice of free box-sets (Razor, IM, etc.). While I generally avoid them for their questionable shipping prices, I may just have to pick-up a few to build-up my troops and show that there's still an interest in these (and 'mates in general). Anyone looking for additional Cylons may also want to consider the Adama/Tigh/Boomer/Cylon set of four that is currently priced at $5.59. I was tempted to pick up a couple of things but the outrageous shipping price made any deal I was getting look like a complete waste of resources. Even though I wouldn't have minded the pilot Boomer figure, I can't justify the shipping charge AFX is charging, regardless of the discount they've given some of these items.
  22. I highly doubt that the Star Trek Barbie collection will be successful. Not only is this product completely out of line for the normal Barbie target audience, I believe all three are going to be sold as a set, exclusive to Wal-Mart. As a result, people interested only in the Uhura will have to purchase Kirk and Spock - likely meaning lower sales for the entire line as a whole. As someone that collected the Playmates line in the very beginning (and had almost the entire collection), I find the news of this line being on hold very, very disappointing. As a big fan of Worf, I would have loved to have gotten a TNG and DS9 figure. Hopefully, there is still a chance of this happening.
  23. Wow, I absolutely love the idea of Mask minimates. Why hasn't this been brought up before?
  24. I think this is the perfect question to ask as DST has a terrible track record of actually having product out at the time of the movie's release. Few people are going to be looking for Spirit movie-mates 3-6 months after the movie's release - with the exception of those that are already aware of the figures. However, if these were released in early to mid-December, it could have been displayed in TRU, comic shops, web pages, etc at a time when the movie was being heavily advertised. This could have lead to more impulse buys and perhaps made people more aware of the entire Minimate product line. You never know what line might draw a customer into purchasing a line, wave or product from your company but they are severely limiting their odds for success by not ensuring the product is there to meet the height of demand. I'll use myself as an example. I think one of the first Minimate sets I ever purchased was a Spider-Man/Gaijun Wolverine two-pack. I admit that at first, I wasn't a huge follower of the MM lines. It wasn't until later that I started trying to complete my Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider collection that I began to realize the wide swath of variety available in these awesome 2" lines. Now, my collection has expanded from Marvel to DC, Star Trek, BSG, Speed Racer, Street Fighter and a few LOTR mates. I've even started trying to re-collect the LOTR waves that I missed or didn't care for originally. IMO, to be successful, DST needs to market these to the big events (Marvel Secret Invasion, new Star Trek movie, BSG's return, Caprica's premiere, BSG SciFi movie, etc) and ensure the product is available before these big event dates. Without doing so, they've already fallen behind and are playing catch up, hoping to catch unaware customers with products that are released after the major events have occurred. Maybe some more cross-promotion would help as well. For example, advertising the BSG minimates on SciFi's BSG Webisode page, or Star Trek mates on Star Trek.com, etc.....
  25. True, but I think this is true for the Terminator movies as well - just look at the DVD rights. Given the variety of releases and companies, I'm pretty sure they are fairly jumbled up as well.
