  1. Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man has an all-white Minimate underneath him. I'm pretty sure that the Goth Girl 'mate would make a good basis for Death, though Dream has long had me stymied.
  2. That's kind of what I was thinking... figure out what parts I need for customs, then slap them on a 'mate. Do they let you have more then one go? From the original posting, it looks like you get 5 minutes for each purchase, so if you buy two sets, you should get 10 minutes. Or is it once per customer?
  3. My only real fear about Marvel Minimates ending is that, with Disney's recent purchase of Marvel, they may decide to eventually end some licensing agreements. But the MM box set coming to the Disney Store has put those fears to rest for me, at least for the moment. So I think they're fine. Perhaps "Some Guy" was one of those end-times profits, predicting (accurately, I suspect) that Marvel Minimates would not survive the apocalypse. I'm pretty sure that's in Genesis.
  4. Chuck gives me Kang, I'll give him some cookies. But I'll build-a-mate. That's cool. At the very least, I can hopefully score some useful pieces.
  5. That is a really nice quick custom. I've been looking to make more Flash rogues myself, so I might have to steal...er, borrow that formula. It's definitely recognizable as Captain Cold.
  6. Rom was a toy created by... Parker Brothers? They basically approached Marvel about creating the backstory and doing the tie-in comic. The toy was a flop, the comic wasn't (and it's probably the single most underrated Marvel comic ever) but eventually the license lapsed. I think Marvel could probably buy the rights to Rom outright (it's not like Parker Brothers, or whomever owns the rights, is doing anything with them), but I guess it's not worth their while financially. Really a shame.
  7. Honestly, I'm not sure that Man-Thing is outside the realm of possibilities anymore. AA has made such amazing strides recently that I think they can probably do anybody, even Manny, Howard the Duck, and Rocket Raccoon (there's a dream box set for you...). And I continue to hold out hope for the Squadron Supreme. I think the most likely characters to never get made are those that had a brief window of popularity, but are now on the downswing. The Runaways and the Young Avengers, for example, are both properties that looked to be long-term hits for Marvel a few years ago, but mismanagement has largely diluted interest. The time for box sets for them was 2005, not 2010, and I'd say it's unlikely we'll see them. Oh, and I'd be surprised if we ever see a character named the Son of Satan, complete with chest pentagram, on the pegs at Toys R Us....
  8. I think it's your fault for all those Namor/Atlantean Soldier packs you ordered!
  9. "You get Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man without having to search all over the place and you won’t end up with figures you don’t want." Are they being serious? Most collectors, I think, will probably buy this for the Iron Man and end up with three figures they don't want. None of those characters, in those costumes, are particularly rare. Heck, you'd probably only have to "search" to the next peg over to find modern Thor.
  10. I bought one, and it's pretty big. Plus, there's no buckle or anything for them, so the figures slide around quite a bit. But it's probably the closest we're going to get to a Minimates Quinjet, so I'll take it. Also just bought the SHS headquarters, AKA the Shield Helicarrier. That works much better with Minimates (though of course it's ridiculously out of scale if you think of the size of the actual Helicarrier in the comics). I believe it's on sale for $25 at TRU through the weekend.
  11. I've finally gotten the Joe bug a bit thanks to the cheap figures at TJ Maxx (BTW, they're also at Ollies, if anyone has one of those around). They are cool figures.
  12. Dark Phoenix seems almost like a "pre-release repaint", meaning that she's a repaint of a regular Phoenix before a regular Phoenix has been released (though clearly one is in the planning stages). They would have been better off just making green Phoenix, but I still like her well enough. I've come around on Cyclops a bit; I definitely like him better then the SW one, but I don't know why they decided to paint him black with blue highlights rather then the other way around. This line is sure shipping fast and furious all of a sudden, although I still haven't gotten Archangel, Havok, and Kitty. I did see Kitty once, but was on the fence about her so I didn't pick her up, and now of course I can't find her. Hopefully the TRU dump means that they'll have lots of MU figures over the next month. Of course, at the ones I've visited, they have tons of Iron Man and Spider-Man figures sitting there, while the MU ones have been picked over.
  13. Wave 15 has finally started to show up at online stores. The wait for 14 and 15 has been KILLING me, 14 especially, because 4 of my top ten most wanted (Hourman, Kamandi, Zatanna, and GA GL) are in that wave, plus my most wanted C&C. I've been waffling on 15; definitely want both Starmen and J'onn, but that looked to be it, until I saw the photos over at Fwoosh, and now I'll be getting Omac as well, at least.
  14. Worth going to, yes. It's hard to say how it compares with SDCC, because it's been moved back in the calendar. Last year, it seemed almost like a pre-show. But this year it at least has some exclusives. This is not my favorite convention, though. I don't care much at all for the Javitz Center, but that's just me. It's not San Diego, but it's above the Wizard shows, for example. And it's definitely fan oriented. I'll be going, if anyone is planning on meeting up.
  15. I hope this does well for them. A new Thor probably isn't enough to get me to spring for these... but I've said that before and been proven wrong. We should probably all buy these just to show we care. BTW, as to the idea of this leading to Disney 'mates, as was floated at the beginning of the thread, I'd just like to point out one character Disney owns all the licensing rights to... THE ROCKETEER!
  16. It took me a minute to realize what you meant... but yeah, the head is pretty spot-on. As for the other parts you'll need...
  17. Wow, these turned out really well. When they were first announced I was just hoping for some decent custom fodder, but I'm actually looking forward to buying these. The design that's gone into these is impressive; I love that they are playing up the interchangiblity of Minimates, which is the thing that separates 'mates from every other toy on the block (no pun intended). I agree that the lack of diversity so far is disappointing. This isn't a problem for most of us here at the MM, since we've got plenty of extra heads and hands laying around to make black cops and lady firefighters, but it does limit the amount of play possibilities for kids. I hope that we'll see some other faces and body types as these continue. Anyway, I'm just looking forward to getting one of those gas masks so that I can finally finish my Sandman Mystery Theater custom!
  18. Doom did only have a thin scar... from the explosion that caused the rift between him and Reed. Afterward he traveled into the mountians and had his iron mask placed onto his face by monks while it was still glowing hot from the forge. That where the hamburgerhead comes from. Basically doom, since we first saw him had the burnt up face. Yeah, that's from John Byrne's Doom origin issue. I've always assumed that the thin scar that drove Doom to fully ruin his face was a tribute to Jack. It's a nice compromise.
  19. My one complaint with the Aquaman Minimate (and it's a small one, I know) is that he doesn't have black trunks, and the painted on belt makes it difficult to switch his crotch out. He just doesn't look like Aquaman to me with all-green pants.
  20. About Doom's scars... that's something Lee and Kirby always used to disagree about. Stan thought that Doom's face was really hideous, whereas Jack went with the idea that Doom just had this little scar, but was so vain that he thought his face was ruined. Personally, I love that idea.
  21. He does, but they don't look right on him with all the other bulky pieces, and unfortunately there's no tampo on the chest underneath. I was really surprised when I got him that he's not the same one as in wave 37 (guess I never looked that closely at the pictures ).
  22. Just getting around to opening these now (sorry, my Spidey Friends and Foes set also arrived today, and I just spent ten minutes putting in Doc Ock's arms ). Mole Man reuses the Doc Ock powerhouse chest (though I suppose we need a new name for that); you can even see the imprints on the back where they filled the holes (it's faint, don't worry, you wouldn't notice if you didn't know to look). He also has the Moon Knight cape that I'm rapidly growing to hate, and Ma Hunkle feet! Sue comes with both regular and translucent arms and legs, an invisible shield, and for some reason, a flight stand (not that I'm complaining)! Nice set. Reed comes with the streachy base from the BD one, and Doom comes with a gun and the scarred head we all spotted from the package photos. Don't recognize the blaster; is it possible it's not a reuse? Doom's got on the Moon Knight hood (nice) and the Skrull neck piece painted a darker green, and Ares feet. He's really nice. Torch comes with a flame base (as you'd expect) and fireballs for his hands. Thing comes with full extension pieces, plus regular hands and feet. Nothing hidden underneath. His boots are Marshmallow Man feet, which are really clunky and odd. Oh, and there's a new POSTER! With the illustration that's been at the DST booth of late, and a CARTOON! Nifty. Okay, I've got ten new Minimates to play with...!
  23. Seriously, there's something wrong with you. You've just gotta see him in person. He's just an Ares repaint with a blue head and black pants. Just not as impressive as I'd thought he'd be.
  24. They're out, guys! Just saw them at TRU. Didn't get any, though, because the FF wave is ALSO out, and I can only buy so much! I didn't look closely, but they looked to follow the GB case packouts, with some sets being four per case, and some two (that is how they did those, isn't it?). Anyway, the exclusive sets, the B&W one and the glow in the dark CftBL both looked to be short-packed, though there were two of each.
