  1. I do have the Rocketeer Kubrick (it's the only one I own), and I do agree it's pretty nice for a kubrick. But still... it's a kubrick. Placeholder, nothing more.
  2. I saw that too and was going to post something about it. The Kirk one makes sense, but why Doc Brown? Because he's a scientist? Batman's a scientist! ... Sorry, I couldn't resist. Anyway, even if you go with Doc Brown, why the cowboy one?
  3. Well, I unfortunately had no luck at the three K-Marts I drove to (at least they're all about 1/2 an hour apart). I hadn't heard about the sale price, so I was shocked to find them for that price. Shocked and bummed, since I had them all. I did buy a couple, to use the old "buy something for less and return it at Target using a different receipt" trick. Do you guys know about this? For some reason, items don't show up on Target's receipts with their individual SKU, but with an item code that covers everything in that category. So any DCUC figure (or MU, or GI Joe, or Transformer... you get the idea) that you buy will have the same number on the receipt, regardless of wave. So if you were to, say, buy a couple of older ones that you already had for clearance prices, you can save them and use the receipt you get when you do find a figure you want at Target (the hardest part of this equation) and no one's the wiser. Not the most ethical thing in the world, but... er... I got nothin'. Anyway, it's small compensation for driving around all day and coming up empty.
  4. Are you kidding me?! Getting a Minimate of Llama Kuzco would be hilarious. Bonus points if we get parts to convert him to Emperor Kuzco too! I still stand by my two dream Disney properties for mateification though: Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. And maybe throw in The Sword in the Stone and The Great Mouse Detective too. I repeat: This guy please!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. So does that count as official confirmation? Chuck knows better then to toy with us like that, right? Right?
  6. I feel the same way. I think that Meggan didn't have that hair piece yet and NYCC, but I'm sure that Juggy didn't have the thigh piece. I like that, though I wish it were rounded off at the bottom or something. Yeah, Captain Britain's not great. I'm afraid Alan Davis' unique design for his mask just won't translate well onto a Minimate, though it would have looked a lot better if they'd actually included all the detail on the last one they showed in the picture. And, based on this picture, I think the original Nightcrawler is superior to the new one. Some guys just don't need an update, I guess.
  7. I dunno, that facial expression makes me think something else might be going on down there...
  8. I always love how people try to give their little spin when throwing out a potential property. "Have you considered Star Wars? It would be a big seller!" Yeah, no $#*!. I'm surprised, though, that they've never really thought about Harry Potter. I'd say Harry Potter (after Star Wars and WWE) has the most potential to be a tentpole property for 'mates the way Ghostbusters has been. Totally agree with Poe Ghostal's comments about Hellboy, and indie 'mates in general. I've always thought that the Indie Mates box set was a bad test of the market potential. If you were to do a box set, or even a wave of two packs, for books like Hellboy, Grendel, Invincible, ect, comic shop owners would be on board, and they'd sell through pretty well. But I thought that's what would happen with the Spirit comics set, so what do I know.... That set would have sold well for Mr. T and Hulk Hogan. What a wasted opportunity....
  9. There's also this floating around: http://www.printablecouponfeed.com/kmart/25733 At the ones by me, they still had DCUC priced at $12.99; if they stay at that price point, that means you can get wave 15 for about eight bucks a pop. Pretty darn good. I'll even buy Raven and SC Batman for that price. A friend of mine traded me an extra Jack Knight he got for a New Mutants box set I picked up for him. Nice enough figure, but it just doesn't look like Jack Knight, you know? Too bulky, for one thing. Looks like one of those Jakks Pacific Vince McMahon bodies.
  10. No, you were right the first time. Kmart first, then everywhere else. Mattel's previous exclusives, the Wal-Mart waves and the Target Public Enemies wave, weren't offered to etailers, just those stores. Dunno why they put that sticker on, but I remember waves 8 & 9 turning up at TRU with "only at Toys R Us" stickers months after they had been released. If there's one thing life has taught me, it's that stickers aren't always true.
  11. Bummed that the GL 3-pack has B'dg and not C'hp. But it looks like a decent enough wave. DCUC 15 has arrived at most online retailers, and there are reports that it's turned up at K-mart. Not at any of the ones near me, however.
  12. Dang. And here I just bought a Ryu the other week for a custom. Thanks for the tip, though.
  13. Someone didn't give Chuck cookies. DST had a whole BAGFUL behind the counter. One Gold, the rest Black and Silver. LOTS of Silver actually. All the bags were fairly dusty too. But as a proud new father of two widdle Battle Beasts, i REALLY want this line to take off more than ever. These...are so much fun... Yeah, you got me. I shoulda known.
  14. You must have done this on Saturday, Two Face, because none of those parts were in the bowl on Friday. Also, sounds like they had a different guy working there, because the guy on Friday was at least very helpful, and knew what he was doing. If you said "I need an X-Men yellow belt", he'd dig around for you while you were looking for other things. Oh, and I also had the same problem with the heads. I just wanted a nice, generic male head (like the MAX pilot) and there were none to be found. Oh well.
  15. Warlock definitely looks to have a NM body underneath... I was able to see a little yellow crotch underneath the tech crotch overlay. The head, though, is a Douglock head, meaning it's got the techno-organic stuff painted on, and not a plain Doug Ramsey head. Don't know if it's the one underneath, or if it's an extra head and there's a normal Doug under the Warlock mask. Cannonball looks to be an all-new base... it's not the one that comes with the NM set, that's for sure. Which makes you wonder why they didn't just make the base for the NM set... production time, I guess. Magik, by the way, didn't have feet; the base was attached directly to her leg holes. As I said, Juggernaut looks great in person. Definitely the best "bulk enhanced" 'mate I've seen. He's got arm attachments, like the upcoming Thing. Makes a big difference. The moon boots don't looks as bad as they do on the TRU Thing. Oh, they also had the BTTF anniversary set on display, which I'd forgotten about entirely. Didn't look like any of the pirates stuff was new. Lot of Halo stuff, including vehicles, which I don't remember hearing about, but I haven't been following the development of that line that closely. Once again, no sign of Battle Beasts. They were even giving away blanks and Unification Spocks with the Build-A-Mates, but no Battle Beasts.
  16. Okay, so I did this... and it was a bit of a nightmare. First off, they give you a lot longer then 5 minutes, which is great... except when the two guys in front of you take about 45 minutes total. But I can understand why, because I certainly went way over. The problem was that all the parts were in one big bowl. I had imagined that they would have little separate trays; one for heads, one for hair and masks, one for arms, and so on. But no, one big bowl. And even that wouldn't have been so bad, except (as it was explained to me) we were dealing with the dregs of San Diego, which meant there were a ton of accessories, but not a lot in the way of body parts. So while I was able to find a pair of boots relatively easy, I couldn't find a pair of matching legs, much less one that would be any use to me. By the end, I was honestly wishing that I'd never done it, thinking "it's not worth the wait and the stress". That's a bit harsh, and as time passed I've definitely softened. But I did end up with a Minimate with two left legs, and two arms that don't match, because I just stuck on what I could and called it a day. I can't see how anyone hoping to make a specific character would have had any luck; you might have been able to make most of a FA Angel, but that's about it. Apparently they were going to be adding new parts for Saturday, which probably made things a lot better, but the con was too crazy for me to get anywhere near their booth Saturday, and when I walked by Sunday they'd closed the BAM area off. So who knows. Anyway, A for idea, E for execution, at least on Friday. I know I sound like a big complainer, but I thought it important to let you guys know what to expect if they do this again, and also hopefully (if they ever read this) let the DST guys know that Building-A-Minimate was a less then pleasant experience.
  17. Definitely TRU packs. I asked somebody (not Chuck) about these, because they've always said in the past that video games didn't do very well for them, but apparently TRU wanted these. So, all of you that are happy to have video game Minimates, you know who to thank.
  18. Saw these in person briefly yesterday, and they are pretty nice. Warlock is definitely the best of the bunch, really great. Juggernaut looks terrific, one of the few times I think the powerhouse enhancements work. I didn't get to swing by there today (the con was crazy), but I'll take a closer look tomorrow and see if I can't address some of those questions raised.
  19. So... what's the problem? In his other post it sounded liek he wasn't sure if buying more than one set at the DST booth meant more than 5 minues for the Build-a-Mate. Now there is only one Exclusive set there. Quite frankly, i assumed one purchase meant your entire purchase, not how many items you buy. I doubt they'd let you seperate them for that purpose ayway. Actually, it's more that I wasn't planning on buying the AoA set that's going to be at the DST booth, because there's no one that I'm interested in. But, as to getting multiple sets for multiple minutes, well, it's a three day show. Thus, three different days to make purchases, if one were so inclined. But it also doesn't say that one must purchase the show exclusives in order to Build-A-Mate, just buy something. Wish they'd have made it clear.... but we'll know tomorrow.
  20. Wait... it just dawned on me that one of the AoA sets and the New Mutants sets are AFX exclusives and won't be at the DST booth... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  21. That police dog will look really cool with the MAX policemen.
  22. It should be pointed out that he's not being forced out, or fired, but is leaving (more or less) by his own accord. And he's not the only one. There's a lot of really talented people that are going to be on the job market because of this forced west coast migration. It's not a good time to be working for DC. I don't think, though, that there's going to be a lot of tears shed in the AF community to see him replaced. I think Karamazov summed up DCD's failings well; I'd only add that they were very, very poor in listening to their customer base, which I always found odd since they were more accessible then just about anyone. They had a terrible habit of starting lines and dropping them without warning, Minimates only being our favorite example.
  23. I found that taking the chest piece off made it much easier to force them in. I believe the thread on this box set had lots of other good suggestions to get the buggers in.
  24. Hmmm... I actually have a job interview at that exact date & time. I guess that takes priority....
