  1. I've noted here before somewhere that Abomination looks like an old Swamp Thing toy from the animated series, and with the purple parts, he looks even more like that old toy now. . .except not as good. http://cgi.ebay.com/CLIMBING-SWAMP-THING-F...7QQcmdZViewItem Those toys are laughably bad!
  2. I just had a tubed, regular Kirk and Gorn on eBay. I was trying to get around 5 bucks for them, and they didn't get any bids, if that tells you anything
  3. A John Stewart Minimate has already been made, actually. However, it was a convention exclusive: http://www.minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=301 You may know this, but a Manhunter was made as well, though under the C3 line (it is very expensive to get ahold of): http://www.minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=250 While I would also prefer Black Canary or a number of others over Ambush Bug (I didn't even buy the Ambush Bug/Lobo pack), I'm actually not upset with DST over this. I like that they release less popular/more obscure characters every now and then. For every one that I don't like, I tend to get one that I do, and I think it's a cool nod to hard-core fans. Not releasing only the major, popular characters first also helps to ensure the viability of the line for longer than would be the case if the first wave was, say: Superman/Batman; Wonder Woman/Flash; Aquaman/Martian Manhunter; Green Lantern/Hawkman (by wave 7 or so, you would start to get mostly obscure characters). Palisades seemed to perfect this process with its Muppet figures a few years ago--keeping fans' interest by holding off on major names like Sam the Eagle, Janice, and the Swedish Chef until later waves. Having said that, this is only a good thing as long as a line keeps going. When they end comes, if companies go this route, fans get left without team members and favorites, and that sucks. Personally, I will be sorry if I don't see more members of the JSA or more Titans.
  4. I hope it's with Rhodes. I need a Hustle and Flow-mate, so that I can finally have some use of Loki's "pimp juice" cup.
  5. I was recently inspired by Minijeff's display from a few pages back, and decided that I wanted to do a nicer-looking display than I previously had (a cardboard, kind of crappy, hand-made display) using Legos as my bases. After going to Tuesday Morning to capitalize on their Lego sale, this is what I have come up with: One base and enough Legos to create the stands that I show here come in one of the 5 dollar Mosaic sets from Tuesday Morning (there were 20 or 30 of them at my local store). After creating the stands, I put fingernail polish on the pegs and let that dry, so that the Mates' feet would stay on a little better, and for the Mates without the holes, I cut up some of those sticky tabs that you can use to mount posters on the wall (you can see them on Thing's feet). This is a cheap way to display Minimates, which doesn't take up much room and yet allows you to see all the Minimates pretty well. I increased each successive row by the height of two Lego-blocks. I plan on doing about 6 or 7 of these, and I'm going to try to keep them, roughly, thematically organized. Anyway, thanks for the idea Minijeff!
  6. Does anyone know why they tend to release waves 2 at a time instead of spacing them out a little more? Is it somehow more cost-effective this way?
  7. True, we've also got the Joker, the Punisher, 24 villains, Marvel Zombies and Indio, amongst others I'm sure I'm forgetting. What we haven't got is the Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Ed Gein 4-pack. . .yet.
  8. I understand. As I posted above, given that Star Trek, BSG, and Dr. Who are all sci-fi TV shows getting Mates, I would not be at all surprised to see SG-mates coming our way at some point (maybe when the Galactica line starts winding down). In fact, given the diversity of licenses we've seen, anything short of "Pink Flamingos," serial-killer-mates or porno-mates would not surprise me. I would probably buy a couple of those Serpent Guards, by the way. I think they could be awesome Minimates.
  9. Good thing I preordered mine last night. As for the Skywarp set, it's probably just to sell more of 'em. I'm sure if there was an MP Thundercracker, we'd see a set for him, too. Prices have gone up again to 25 bucks. http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search....iece+coronation Wow.
  10. Well, this proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Being a huge 80s geek, I think the BTTF and 80s Madonna Minimates are the bees knees! And having just googled "Serpent Guards," I actually think they actually look sort of like College Mascots--what with the huge, cute animal head on top of the regular sized body. I can just see him running up and down the football field, clapping his hands together to the tune of "We Will Rock You." I guess that's cool, though. . .there are probably a lot of Disney World and NCAA fans just waiting to do some cool customs based on one of those. Seriously, though, this makes me think that DST could make a fortune manufacturing college mascot Minimates. I bet that LSU's Mike the Tiger, with removable giant tiger head showing coach Les Miles underneath, would fly off the shelves here. I would buy an entire army.
  11. Welcome! I echo Shanester's comments, by the way. This is not exactly the place to go to wean yourself off of Minimates. People here actually encourage the dangerous and expensive behavior of collecting Minimates. Have you found yourself committing violent felonies to fund your habit yet? It happens to the best of us, unfortunately, so be prepared. Also, if the custom you are referring to is what I think it is, then a member here actually created it.
  12. There are some cool mods that you might consider if you are so inclined: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.p...ight=starscream http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.p...ight=starscream I haven't gotten around to doing this, but I might at some point.
  13. I bet he knew exactly what that XBox was, and was just being an asshole. Those guys probably aren't paid very well. . .
  14. I don't watch that show, but the fact that the show has been on for years and has had spin-offs suggests that there may be a market for those things. Plus, DST seems to really focus on the sci-fi genre, for obvious reasons, so that's another reason that I could see this happening. Personally, though, I could care less (even though I saw the Stargate movie 4 times at the theaters when I was a wee young fella--beating out my record previously held by Jurassic Park!). In terms of future sci-fi TV lines, I would far prefer Twilight Zone or Firefly/Serenity Minis.
  15. I would like to see Ant Man and Wasp or regular Black Panther, myself. . .I don't see them doing another Avengers wave in the near future, and these are some of the few, major, remaining Avengers that haven't been made yet for some reason. I would also like to see regular (non-astonishing) furry Beast and Marvel Girl Jean Gray, or maybe Captain Britain and non-astonishing Kitty Pride. If we get an original Wolvie, I would hope for Wendigo over another Hulk, though. . .
  16. Hopefully they would keep killing each other over and over--since neither seems to die for good--so that they were too busy to star in any more crappy sequels.
  17. I haven't thought about doing a Rambo custom, but that idea seems solid. Good one, Piggy! (also, when the Platoon Minimates come out, then you can have a super sweet Rambo!)
  18. I think it depends on the Bond (I'm talking about Bond from the movies, obviously, I'm not familiar with Fleming's books at all). Sean Connery is too cool for school. I don't think Bauer could hang with his karate-chopping action. On the other hand, I think that Bauer's willingness to fight dirty and his ability to turn normal household appliances into torture devices would give him the edge against most other, lesser Bonds (particularly Moore, Lazenby, and Dalton). Daniel Craig Bond vs. Bauer would be interesting, but I still go with Bauer. I don't think the modern (post-Cold War) British spy would have the field experience of a former U.S. commando in the Balkans and chief domestic counter-terror weapon of death in the 24-verse, so I think that hands-on experience gives Bauer an edge in terms of survival combat. It also depends on the kinds of gadgets that Bond has on him. If he has some hidden laser or concussion grenade, then that might give him the edge. What about Galactus vs. MacGuyver?
  19. Let me ask another Smash Brothers related question. Who do you think is the "best" fighter? After playing for about 5 hours with a friend last night, I can say that there is an amazing degree of parity here. I think Link, Lucario, and Donkey Kong won the most matches at my house last night, so based on that, I'm going to say that I think they are the best fighters (for some reason, Lucario's massive fireball of doom is a freakin' killing machine!).
  20. I think that Wolverine might win that one. One of his main attributes is that he is so incredibly tough. Batman might be able to knock Wolvie down first, but could he keep him down? In a war of attrition (i.e. if the fight doesn't end quickly), I see the last man standing as Wolverine. In the final analysis, it just takes one wrong move from Bats to get skewered with Wolvie's claws, and that would be that. Similar to the point with Daredevil, I think Batman's best strategy would be to exploit Wolverine's heightened senses. Wolverine is so connected to his environment that, if he could be disoriented, he would be far less of a threat.
  21. Justice League. Obviously, this depends on the team (I wouldn't bet on the pre-JLI JLA with Vibe and Gypsy against any Avengers team, for instance, except maybe the Great Lakes Avengers), but ultimately, I think the pure power of a Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter defeats any given Avengers team (even those that might have an edge in intelligence and scrappiness--I don't guess that's a word.) Now, Great Lakes Avengers vs. Justice League Antarctica. . .there's a battle!
