  1. Psst...You're lucky! Number 8 on your list is set to be released in Wave 7 with Nightwing, unless I'm being really ignorant and there's another Starfire I haven't heard of (which totally wouldn't surprise me).
  2. According to Neil Gaiman's American Gods, time and money are acceptable sacrifices to the powers that be. Therefore, I shall continue to donate copious amounts of both to minimates and hope it goes to your glory. As a humble temple priestess, my questions are as follows: 1) With the vast increase of popularity/awareness of minimates, is there any chance of the Lord of the Rings third wave coming out? (I am aware this was previously raised, but as it drives me nuts that I don't have a Bilbo or a single female character to complete my collection I feel it deserves the emphasis of repetition.) 2) Are there any plans for acquiring Star Wars as a license? I am aware they already make LEGO sets, but frankly your level of quality in the figures is so much higher that I believe the level of competition would be much lower than might be predicted. After all, the Batman minimates have sold well despite the plethora of Batman LEGO sets. 3) Please continue your trend of moving away from constant retreads of Wolverine and Spiderman into the more obscure X-men figures. What are my chances of getting a Gambit? (And a Nightcrawler, 'cause finding one on ebay ain't happening.) Many thanks, (and apologies if I'm too wordy).
  3. As far as Gorilla Grodd and Clayface are concerned, my hope is that they will be built in a style at least somewhat similar to the modern Cylon 'mates, with a lot of add-ons to a basic block figure shape. It isn't readily visible on the Cylon 'mates, and for the promo figures made so far in advance they might have simply sculpted them in more solid/attached form for ease's sake. All of Gorilla Grodd's parts, excepting the hands and feet, could be attached to a large scale minimate frame. Clayface could also be this way-I'm assuming the head isn't completely attached to the torso, because if so, they are losing a major point of articulation and making it a lot less fun to play with. These are my hopes anyways.
  4. This is strongly influenced by what I'd like to come out, but here goes: Two-face/Black Canary Big Barda/Mister Miracle Martian Manhunter/Zatanna That way we get more of JLA and what with the new Batman movie and the Death of the New Gods storyline, some current characters.
  5. I'm gonna join the chorus and say hello, and welcome to the forum.
  6. Hello! As a major fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, I salute your choice of name. As addictive as minimates are, it's nearly impossible to stop collecting them-I tried after finishing my LOTR collection, but my efforts were in vain. Good luck with the Martian Manhunter minimate-I've been trying to get it for months and unless you have about $80 for the whole C3 set it seems to be impossible. Welcome to the forum. P.S. As a humanities person, my favorite MST3K episode is definitely the one where they do Hamlet. [Hamlet finishes his famous "To be or not to be" soliloquy.] Mike [as Hamlet]: So I'm a chicken for not stabbing myself — that's all you needed to say! Pure genius.
  7. To me, a perfect minimate that departs from the block figure basic is the new Cylon minimates-they are lots of add-ons attached to a spare block frame, without it being obvious that they are separate pieces.
  8. I only started in late July after seeing the plethora of minimates at SDCC and I now have hundreds! Of course, my bank accounts is also much smaller but that's a sacrifice I've been happy to make! Buying large collections aren't necessary, although they can be a savings. My collection has been built up entirely piecemeal-the most I've ever bought together is eight (which was actually the worst purchase ever-many were missing pieces and I had to pay for shipping from Hong Kong!) Be careful to bargain shop on ebay and don't just grab the first you see-some retailers tend to rip people off. Even if it is described as a rare figure, it can still often be found cheaper elsewhere-don't immediately snatch it up unless users on this forum have described how difficult it is to find. I've seen regular two packs range in price by $25! :o
  9. I love this wave, except for Starfire/Nightwing. Frankly I like the face on the C3 minimate more (and it's not nearly as rare as many other C3 minimates). To me he looks kinda constipated. Also, Starfire just looks weird to me-she has such a skimpy costume and voluptuous figure that the block format doesn't work too well for her, in my opinion. This is heavily biased by the fact that I think her character is a total Mary Sue. Classic Batman doesn't look very different to Wave 1 Batman to me. I'm really glad to get a Flash since I can't find a C3 Flash-I hope Martian Manhunter is next to come. Gorilla Grodd, Lobo, and Clayface are absolute perfection-I guess I just prefer the villians!
  10. I'm almost speechless. It's amazing-actually looking like Stan Lee while at the same time being worthy of a Romero movie. I particularly like the twisted, decayed leg-it gives him a great "Igor" shuffle that really adds atmosphere. The big bite out of his torso is way more realistic looking than the clear bits of the official Marvel Zombie minimates. In a word-fabulous (just like the work of the man himself).
  11. Where did you get the brown coat you used for Hush (my favorite of the lot by the way)? It would be perfect for a Rogue custom I'd like to make.
  12. Way better! Excellent scenes of carnage and mayhem (and dripping bloody dismembered body parts). I especially love the torn off hand still gripping the knife in his back, and the BSG scene with the impaled Cylon torso! Cylons would be great against zombies (the metal ones anyway) no flesh to chew, and they can't be bitten or turned.
  13. But your user picture is one of the most recent minimates? One with a specially detailed/sculpted torso at that? Clearly it's not quite as dire as you say, if you pick one of the new adulterated minimates to represent you visually in the forums.
  14. That would be true if my Dad generally had any kind of clue about what was going on. Last time we had to evacuate, he told my Mother to "bring the green folder on the floor of my office." It turns out it contained the only complete copies of his company's financial records for the last five years-not backed up anywhere else. Not exactly something my Mom wanted to hear while the ash was raining down! He definitely won't know if I just grab them since he's in China this month ! Thanks for the advice, I think I'll just bundle them up to be on the safe side. I'm nineteen and live at home at my Mother's request to help take care of my handicapped younger sister while my Dad is away on his frequent business trips, so I doubt they will be bothered if I pack them up myself rather quickly.
  15. I live a mile away from Magic Mountain and on the edge of the Angeles National Forest, so my house was in the epicenter of three fires for a while. Thankfully I could only see the flames from two of them from my house. We were on standby for evacuation but didn't have to leave and seem to be in the clear. My neighborhood was pretty calm about the whole thing, since this happens about every four years up in the chaparral where we live. The biggest problem was that the roads and freeways we would use to evacuate were all in the fires, so we were kinda stuck. Since we've had the radio on 24/7 and I've heard tons of insurance commercials urging people to take photos of their posessions and compile lists, does anyone have something like this for their 'mates? Would they even be covered? Because I have somewhere around a hundred and they didn't make the cut for my family's "List of Stuff to Take" evacuation plan (my Mom's hundred hand-made scrapbooks and my Dad's thousands of baseball cards beat them out-I'm sure I inherited my collecting habit). Should I even bother keeping serious records of how much I paid for each or will I just be laughed out of the claims adjuster's office?
  16. A metal file will also work to shave down an item, although you will then need to re-paint the item, or at least do a touch up job. I totally cheat with my big set of 20 fine-tip Sharpies-they can fit into very small spaces, have a fairly wide range of colors, and are much cheaper and easier than using paint. An even more blatant cheat is to use earthquack tack or museum putty to simply hold the item in the minimates hand-if you wedge a little bit into the space between and push the item into it, it will hold pretty well for an inexact fit. And if you want to avoid white/grey blobs sticking out, just color the putty with your Sharpies. Thus ends my ghetto customizing instructions.
  17. World War I or medieval castle style trenches? Or Southern chain gang I suppose. Which is it? And Wikipedia reports this wave as cancelled.
  18. My favorite part about minimates is the degree of detail and versitility you can get while sticking to a basic block figure format. In other words, I'm fine with add ons provided the core of the figure is the basic block structure. To me, this means that slip-on masks (although I prefer the cut-out ones) are twice as good as sculpted heads-simply because with a sculpted head you have only one option. With add on pieces, hidden levels of detail can be added and a greater degree of choice is left up to the individual collector. The only time I've really been sold on a sculpted head was for the Captain America zombie minimate which was necessary because his head was missing a giant chunk and brains were spilling out-a rare circumstance.
  19. For me, it's the idea of having a Western display around my Deadwood DVDs like the one around my Lord of the Rings DVD sets that clinches it. (Obviously it will be a bit smaller). The Palisades Toys PALz series meant that my Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs got the same treatment, so my bookshelves will be getting quite crowded!
  20. I'm not even that big of a Star Trek fan (my uncle is the true fanatic for that 'verse in this family, I occupy the comics nut position) and that would be a must buy. My imagination has just gone nuts picturing it!
  21. The Minimates Shop on ebay stores has a fairly good selection of loose C3 minimates if you just want the figures and not the sets. Some new ones just went up in the last few days but they are selling like hotcakes-I already snatched up the Cassie version of Batgirl from the C3 miniflyers series!
  22. It's sad that my first reaction to the awesomeness of this wave is to snicker at how close battle-damaged Wonder Woman is to flashing some nipple. Thanks for the pics! As cool as they look (and as perfect as they are for military custom minimates) as a younger fan, my main interaction with Blackhawk has been on the Superdickery site, making fun of their nonsensical covers. Despite this, the intricate level of detail is winning me over (to the detriment of my bank account)!
  23. I hope so. I'm trying for a more or less complete JLA lineup (at least all of the original members), and I've got all of the founding members except for J'onn J'onzz.
  24. First Jack and Nick Fury need to have a steely-eyed manly glowering contest. Then I'm siccing him on the zombies. I think Jack might prefer going after Lex Luthor though. That suit of his is just begging to be cracked open for fun torture time, and Jack seems to love taking down corrupt (former) presidents!
  25. Yeah, I'm going broke using this reasoning. I keep thinking: "But I'm going to get it eventually anyway, and it will cost more and be harder to find if I wait." When it comes to books and minimates, I have no perspective. (Or at least, none that doesn't result in me getting whatever I wanted to in the first place).
