Cappy
Cappy or Bob Harris, Are customizers allowed to select their own creations for "Favorite Custom" or is that taboo? Do you think Obama voted for McCain? If your customs are the best, then vote for them. Period.
Bob Harris
OK, here's my best and worst list: 01) BEST MINIMATE (3 choices) - Comic Deadpool – he's brilliant! People were waiting for him – and I also jumped on that wagon, since I started reading the Cable&Deadpool series shortly before he was announced to become a 'mate. And he's VERY well executed with tons of accesoiries. - Ares – although he isn't one of my favorite characters, the minimate is spot on. He got wonderful details and a lot of very nice accesories. - Dr. Peter Venkman (GB1) – the Ghostbusters sets are incredible and from all actual busters, he's my favorite. Runners up are Movie Spirit and w28 Wolverine! 02) WORST MINIMATE (3 choices) - Endoskeletons – all of them. They look odd and it's strange since they are bigger than the „skinjobs“. Sorry, that was really nothing, DST. - Ultimate Hulk – no Hulk love once more. DST is just messing it up again and again. I don't know why. Wait: duck feet, glove armes, bulky chest part, etc. - Old Man Logan (Tru exclusive) – he is soo boring and needless, it is unbelievable! Runner up: Villains Red Skull - his head looks odd and he's totally useless after we got the other version of him 03) BEST VARIATION (1 choice) - w28 Wolverine - I know that we got way too much Wolvies and some people are already annoyed, but this very mate is the perfect version of Logan in my eyes! Runner up is Bolt face Iron Man, which is the best comic version of him so far 04) WORST VARIATION (1 choice) - Thunderbolts Venom – sorry, he sucks. We got a lot of different venoms these days, but this one was outstandingly boring, ugly and totally not Venom Runners up are Old Man Logan and Villains Red Skull 05) SEXIEST MINIMATE (3 female and 3 male) - Black Suit Sand Saref (Spirit box set) – I mean, she, you know, that zipper, erm... - Captivity Six (BSG TRU2) – she is sexy. That's it. - Mrs. Marvel (Dark Averngers II) – even my avatar enjoyed – erm – her body a lot... - Ultimate Nick Fury – he's a sex mothersmurfer, no question. And eyepatches are just sexy² - Ultimate Thor - Weapon X Wolverine (movie TRU1) 06) BIGGEST SLEEPER (3 choices) - Ares – I literally didn't see him coming and I was surprised how well he is done, how awesome he is equipped and how many new parts they've designed for this „minor character“! - The Spirit (movie box set) – I'm not a big Spirit fan and I didn't like the movie so I didn't expect something awesome. But I was just worng, the mate looks perfect! - Ultimate Nick Fury – I wanted to get Thor and wouldn't have bought Fury if he had been placed in a different set, but I am really surprised how cool he is. 07) BEST CELEBRITY LIKENESS (1 choice) - Samuel L. Jackson / Ultimate Fury – I know that he's just based on a character which is based on him, but: look at him? - Runner up is Louis Tully/Rick Moranis, but Jackson is just a badmothersmurfer you shouldn't smurf with! 08) BEST 2-IN-1 MINIMATE (1 choice) - Hydra agents. The whole army builder thing was a really cool idea and that mate brings it yet to another level! Well done, DST! 09) FAVORITE CUSTOM (3 choices) - Jason Vorhees 2! – Although it's not the iconic ice hockey mask version of him, this mate is just brilliant! The checked shirt must have been a pain in the butt to paint and that mask is an awesomely detailed sculpture / original reuse of a part and the paint job on it is a masterpiece! One of the best mate customs ever! Hall of fame! - IG-88! The use and re-use of parts on that custom is very original, the paint job is spot on and it just looks like it should look – if we'd ever get Star Wars mates, which we won't. Awesome! - The Maxx! - Simple but brilliant! The colors are exectly as they should be, he's painted very well and the parts needed to be created blend in very well! (One of the few times the bulky chest part really works out!) A spot on custom on that character! Great job! 10) BEST ACCESSORY (3 choices) - the new Surfer board / stand – it works out really well and looks pretty neat! Edit: Proton packs!!! - the new coats – starting with movie Sabretooth and then on Spirit and movie Gambit. After a long time of odd looking coats, those are very well designed! - the new slip over masks wich have real holes insetad of painted eyes or a mouth 11) WORST ACCESSORY (3 choices) - Gambit's staff - I don't know, we've seen a lot better things and I did expect something else. - Hercule's mace (Champions) – it looks strange and the idea of attaching it to his back doesn't work out in my eyes. - the Terminator Endoskelleton guns which are just - useless 12) BEST ACCESSORIZED MINIMATE (3 choices) - W28 Deadpool - Any questions? - Ares – I mentioned it before. I am amazed! - Armored Punisher – he's just as good equipped as Deadpool is 13) BEST PACKAGING - GB waves 14) BEST BOX SET/WAVE - Dark Avengers II – you get Ares, a way cooler Bob, a very well designed Hawkeye – and also a Bullseye variant head – and a cool scarf, top and tights to tease your avatar! Runner up and pretty close is the entire Marvel wave 28 which was just a total win! 15) WORST BOX SET/WAVE - 16) Because They Deserve It: BEST GHOSTBUSTER MINIMATE - Dr. Peter Venkman (GB1) – he's is just great! - Louis Tully – he IS Rick Moranis! Awesome job! - Marshmallow Man – although I don't really like him because of his size, the figure itself looks really cool! 17) IN MEMORIAM (3 choices) - favorite 'Mate from a line that retired in previous years. Those lines are: Bruce Lee; Rock Mates; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Star Trek (3"); Lord of the Rings; Indie Mates; Street Fighter II; Speed Racer; DC (C3); DC (DC Direct); Movie 'Mates: 24, Desperately Seeking Susan, Rocky, Dollars Trilogy, Platoon, Silence of the Lambs - Man in black – Dollars Trilogy - Red Son Superman - SF Ken – wait! We didn't... hrmpf! Edited January 21, 2010 by Bob Harris
NorthRaider
- Mrs. Marvel (Dark Averngers II) – even my avatar enjoyed – erm – her body a lot... So does that make Ms. Marvel... the new Marvel Girl? My small question: what do we do about Minimates we're still waiting on? (Meaning they came out this year but we're still waiting for them to get shipped ) Is it fair to rank them according to our expectations or should we just vote on Minimates we actually own? Tomorrow is the last day to come up with your nominations! Make sure to include a link to a pic of your customs! Speaking of: BHM, I was looking for your customs, but, zorry, I only found one pic. Can you send me a link to the other one? I guess I forgot to send this If it's too late I'll try to go back with the Doc to....er...... yesterday Feel free to delete this post .....it will regenerate however within minutes. Awww, and I really liked this one too (Is it obvious I have David Tennant withdrawal yet?)

Bob Harris
My small question: what do we do about Minimates we're still waiting on? (Meaning they came out this year but we're still waiting for them to get shipped ) Is it fair to rank them according to our expectations or should we just vote on Minimates we actually own? I'd rank them according to my expectations - most of the time according to Ivan's pics that is. I actually did this on a few, like Ultimate Hulk. I don't own him, but I saw him in the stores and he really deserves a Top3 spot. Of worst 'mates. And I hope there are coming some more lists in here, to browse through. For example, I totally forgot how awesome the proton packs as accessory are! Edited January 21, 2010 by Bob Harris
minimadman
I think that it's on the Minimates in general I don't think that you have to own them to think they are crap, the fact that they are crap is the reason that i did not but the Secret Wars box set. Cappy
Well, I know it's a heavy ballot this year: more Minimates than ever before and a lot of categories to consider. But the time for pondering is over, the deadline rapidly approaches -- that would be Tuesday, January 26th. Want your voice to be heard? Want to impose your opinion on the meek? Vote now. Over the years, I've noticed that the early voters carry some punch: people will read your voting post and think, "Hmm, yes, that is a good Minimate," and before you know it they're voting just like you! Talk about power. So get off your democratic butts, break out your #2 pencils and start filling in your ballot for the probably the most important issue of the year: just which is the Best Celebrity Likeness Minimate of 2009? NorthRaider
01) BEST MINIMATE 1. tie: Bucky Captain America and comic Deadpool (both future classics IMO) 2. Black Bolt (finally!) 3. Psylocke (she's practically perfect!) 02) WORST MINIMATE 1. movie Special Ops Wolverine (I can't think of a use for this mate!) 2. Half-Human Terminator (dodgy design, and what's it doing in the singles assortment?!) 3. Dark Avengers Spider-Man (Mac Gargan's face is the only reason to get this one) 03) BEST VARIATION Extremis Iron Man (good-looking Minimate of a contemporary comic armor) 04) WORST VARIATION movie Special Ops Wolverine (shirtless Logan? Really?) 05) SEXIEST MINIMATE Female: 1. Psylocke 2. Sand Saref 3. tie: Black Widow and Secret Invasion Phoenix Male: 1. comic Gambit 2. Bucky Cap 3. Ultimate SHIELD Agent (I like guys in uniform ) 06) BIGGEST SLEEPER 1. AIM soldier (was funner to play with than I thought ) 2. Goth Girl 3. Movie Assault Punisher 3. tie: Bucky Cap and Dr. Ray Stantz (boxset) 13) BEST PACKAGING tie: Infinity Gauntlet & Ghostbusters boxsets 14) BEST BOX SET/WAVE Marvel Wave 28 (definitely one of the most epic waves we've had yet) 15) WORST BOX SET/WAVE sorry to say it: Wolverine Through The Ages 16) Because They Deserve It: BEST GHOSTBUSTER MINIMATE 1. Bob Harris
There's a lot of Bucky-love in your list, Raider. I never picked him up, because I thought, well, isn't he kinda boring? Maybe I should have a closer look.
NorthRaider
a lot of Bucky-love I don't know why, but for some reason Bucky-Cap holds up ridiculously well to some of the other 'mates I've gotten in the past year. Maybe it's him hitting the sweet spot between a traditional 'mate and a modern one (I know a lot of guys aren't a fan of the full-slipcover masks, but I think it works great on Bucky). And then there's all the little touches DST lovingly poured into him, like the pearlescent paint job, the new belt-sculpt that holds both his knife and his gun, the clever streamlining of his glove design (in lieu of simply reusing the gloves used on the older Cap 'mates), or the fact that this is actually a worthwhile variation of a major Marvel character rather than a gratuitously redundant one *coughWolverinecough*... Either way, IMO Bucky Cap is the hidden gem of Wave 25 and the epitome of effective, thoughtful Minimate design... and I haven't even read a single comic of his yet! But yeah, I was weirded out by him stealthily taking over my best-of list too
Bob Harris
Maybe that is a point. I did read a couple of Bucky comics and although I enjoyed them, I wasn't a fan of his new look and all that. However, I'll have a closer look these days in a comic shop, before I'm leaving NY. And back on topic: I really hope a lot of people did send their lists in via PM, since there isn't that much participation this year. I'm especially missing the, erm, "older 'versers" and their statements. Wasn't there usually more banter?
buttheadsmate
With me it's not from lack of interest Bob but I just become very voyeuristic with Best & Worsts. Bucky Cap is undoubtedly Best but from there on in it gets hard.

Cappy
Soon, soon! The invitations for the gala ceremony have been sent out, Ady trophies ordered, just need confirmation from a couple of the celebs (and a free weekend for the photographer...) In the meantime, you can relive the glitz of past years and debate whether Minimates overall are better or less than years past. I mean, can any 'Mate really beat Dr Strange from 2007? 2005: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=2696 2006: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=1450 2007: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=3886 2008: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=5637 2009: http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.php?showtopic=7574
NorthRaider
Ooh! Ooh! Wouldn't it be awesome if went all-out "awards-show glitz and glamor" for this thingy? Let's set up a real stage and red carpet and get Bill Murray to host. You can get Madonna and Hugh Jackman for the the musical act, then have Robert Downey Jr, Edward Norton and Gwyneth Paltrow present the trophies. And then the Joker barges in and tries to steal them! But then Samuel L. Jackson leaps onstage and beats him up. Hire the Terminators for security and the Cylons for the production (but PLEASE get a good antivirus program for the show's technical equipment!). And we can even hire Peter Parker to cover the event for the Bugle! Because God knows he needs to pay the rent. Also, last year's ceremonies took place at around the same time the Oscars did, so how about we up the ante and stagger the reveals like we did the Hunt Contest? We are gluttons for punishment, after all. P.S. You know? I'm finding it incredible in hindsight that Doctor Strange, the Hunt 'mate and OMAC actually did beat out the rest of the DC Direct 'mates from 2007. 2008 I guess is excusable since only the last two waves came out then, but 2007 got us Wonder Woman! Green Arrow! Lex Luthor! Deathstroke! I guess I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up doing some "Best Minimates Of All Time" dealie for the 10th anniversary of Minimates some 2-3 years from now. Bob Harris
I know, I know, usually it takes about a month until we get the results, but I'm really curious how many people actually participated. And go Ares!
Cappy
Welcome to the 2009 Ady Awards Ceremony. Over the next few days, we will acknowledge the good, the bad, and the unexpected in Minimate releases. Even now, celebrities are arriving on the red carpet, where fans hope to snap photos of the lucky (and unlucky) award winners. Tonight Spider-Man wears his formal black suit in company with the idol of millions: Johnny Storm. The pair are escorting a beauty from 2007 and one of this year's hopefuls. Our cameras caught a couple of past winners entering the theater. Can any of this year's noiminees hope to match the star power of Dr. Strange or Green Lantern? Arriving to the roar of the crowd: the Ghostbusters! Don't worry, folks, they've assured us that the dynamic foursome is here for the honors, not the horrors. Well, the nominees and the fans have been nervously awaiting the results, so let's award our first Ady: Best Packaging Secret Wars Box Set Worst Wave or Box Set (Click thumbnails for larger pics) 3rd place: Marvel Wave 27 2nd place: X-Factor Box Set (due to lack of Angel) 1st place: Wolverine Through The Ages Box Set Best Wave or Box Set 3rd place: Dark Avengers Box Set 2 (with Ares) 2nd place: Marvel Wave 25 1st place: Marvel Wave 28 The fans have voiced their most-missed Minimates, so we'll leave you tonight with a quiet moment to remember those who have gone before: In Mermoriam 3rd place: The Flash 2nd place: Hal Jordan - Green Lantern 1st place: Wave 1 Batman (Seems to be a pattern here. Although Spock was in the final three, it seems the Star Trek line is not dead after all, so the Enterprise officer has withdrawn.)
