Punisher
We all know that the biggest blockbusters come out each summer, but now that summer's almost over, what did you think of summer 2009's "show"? I've thought of the obvious categories, and if there's another you'd like to see, let me know. (Should we also do a best "comedy, action, drama, etc." as well?) Best Overall Movie Worst Overall Movie Biggest Sleeper Biggest Flop (or disappointment) Coolest Hero Coolest Villain Best Animated Movie Best Special Effects And here are the movies to choose from (did I forget any? ). Feel free to post which movies you'd like to nominate for each category. Battle For Terra Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past X-Men Origins: Wolverine Star Trek Next Day Air Angels & Demons Dance Flick Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian Terminator Salvation Land Of The Lost The Hangover Away We Go The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3 Year One The Proposal My Sister's Keeper Blood: The Last Vampire Bruno I love you, Beth Cooper (500) Days Of Summer G-Force The Orphan Aliens In the Attic The Collector Funny People GI Joe Paper Heart The Perfect Getaway District 9 The Goods Poyo Time Traveler's Wife Inglorious Basterds Halloween 2 Final Destination 4 Taking Woodstock UP HARRY POTTER 6 TRANSFORMERS 2 After the nominations, I'll set up a poll for the official voting to begin. karamazov80
Damn. I only saw 2 of those So I guess my choices for all categories are "Star Trek," because Wolverine wasn't very good. Except "Worst Overall Movie." Wolverine wasn't a disappointment, because I had no expectations. Twisted Two-Face
I'm surprised how many of those I DID see; i never go to the movies...for me, Best Movie was definitely (500) Days of Summer. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but that movie was fantastic!! It was hilarious and had a great premise. And that's the only one i care to answer right now. Trekker 42
Going by the movies I saw, the distinctions go to... Best Overall Movie: Star Trek Worst Overall Movie: X-Men Origins: Wolverine Biggest Sleeper: District 9 Biggest Flop (or disappointment): TRANSFORMERS REVENGE OF THE FALLEN (You forgot this one! And HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE. I'd give you a FAIL, but I'm impressedyou remembe so many. So it can slide) Coolest Hero: Star Trek's Captian James Tiberius Kirk ties with District 9's Christopher Johnson and Up's Carl Fredricksen Coolest Villain Transformers 2: Devistator/The Fallen Best Supporting Character: Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. Best Animated Movie Up (YOU FORGOT THIS TOO! Now, you fail. It's Pixar after all) Best Special Effects Star Trek. EASY CHOICE! And yeah, more categories. I'd suggest Best Sidekick. Which will go to Star Trek's Leonard McCoy. Why not Spock? Because Spock was a main character, not a side character. McCoy definately was a side character. Now that the newest category has been added, I'm making my vote official. Edited August 29, 2009 by Trekker

NorthRaider
I know it wasn't technically a summer movie (it showed during OUR summer though), but can't Watchmen be counted?

Trekker 42
Biggest Sleeper -Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Hate to correct people on this as I am no longer the movie guy, but Transformers 2 was NOT a sleeper. In fact, if you take "sleeper" and multiply it by -1 it approximately equals Transformers 2. Sleepers are movies that were not expected to be as big as they were or as good as they were, but they were. Sleepers are movies such as The Hangover and District 9. So yeah... TF2=Not a sleeper. NorthRaider
Perhaps by "sleeper" he meant the people who were supposed to be working out the kinks in the plot.
Punisher
Yeah, I was going to comment. I think he thought sleeper as "the movie sucked so bad i fell asleep, it was boring, etc" So is everyone happy with the set categories? Bob Harris
The Transfomers sleeper issue. You said: Sleepers are movies that were not expected to be (...) as good as they were, but they were. I think in that sense Nekoi is absolutely right. Thinking that it would suck like hell and being surprisingly good in one's personal opinion makes it a sleeper hit. (Only strange thing on that thought is, that Nekoi also marked the movie as worst movie overall as well...)
Trekker 42
Yeah, I was going to comment. I think he thought sleeper as "the movie sucked so bad i fell asleep, it was boring, etc" So is everyone happy with the set categories? I'm telling ya, we need a sidekicks category. Add that and I'll be completely happy.
Punisher
Such as best supporting character? Russell from Up automatically wins, so what would be the point Everyone keep posting your nominations until Wednesday. I'll set up a poll with the top three most nominated in each category, and we'll determine winners from there!
Trekker 42
Such as best supporting character? Russell from Up automatically wins, so what would be the point Yeah that's what I mean. But McCoy would totally take it! "Green-blooded little goblin" "Damn it I'm a doctor not a physicist" "You have GOT to be kidding me!" "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" Ect. McCoy wins as THE best sidekick forever. Even in the original series, McCoy was always my favorite. True southern gentleman doctor who is from my home state and has traditional values and a sharp sense of humor. Hard character to beat! Make it a category. Let the people decide. Even though it may be someone completely different... Edited August 29, 2009 by Trekker

Nekoi
Clarification: I nearly fell asleep in the movie because I was so bored by it. Sorry for the missunderstanding. If it means you weren't expecting it to be as good as it turned out to be, I'd have to go with District 9. Went in with no expectations and left greatly entertained.
