NorthRaider
Well, I was in the mall with my family when Earth Hour rolled around. at around 8:30 only the mall's dimmer lighting was on, it was kinda surreal when you remember that the place was still open at the time. It was pretty funny actually, my sister was looking for new sneakers with my Dad at the department store, and it just so happened that at the time I was in the middle of rereading World War Z for school. With the light out, my imagination went into overdrive as I started formulating scenarios in my head where we'd have to evacuate the place when the zombies show up So.... any other interesting/amusing Earth Hour stories? Any mildly-controversial filibuster opinions?
MinimateEspo25
i was a a play at the time, so i didn't even know it was going on. pretty good on too, into the woods, very fun
cdubya
Earth Hour? What the Hell is that?!? They really dim all of the lights for an hour...in public places? That would be an invitation to looting and rioting in the U.S.!

buttheadsmate
They tried this in Ireland last night starting at 11p.m. with cars.....no speed-limit & no headlamps for an hour. It was about as successful as their decision to start driving on the right-hand side of the road instead of the LH side. This system was brought in slowly ....first with trucks & buses .....then cars ....then bikes
karamazov80
I read/watch the news everyday, but the only time I heard about this was on Larry King a few nights ago, when Ed Norton was talking about it. So, they probably could have done a better job advertising things, IMO. I completely didn't think about it. Did hear a drive-by or something down the street last night about midnight, though. That caused me to turn off the lights, and pretend no one was home. I used to not understand why people felt the need to carry guns around for protection. . .until I moved here
NorthRaider
Hmm... come to think of it, the papers DID claim we were one of the few countries unusually gung-ho over this thing. And MinimateEspo, coincidentally I was in a play tonight too. Well... we were LITERALLY in it. Punisher
Dang, i totally missed that. The only "speak" about it i heard, was the "E-Surance" commercial (which i saw like a month ago) and it didn't give a date....
wallbreaker2.0
They did a better job of spreading the word last year they dimmed the lights om news shows and stuff. I participated last year kinda. It's a good idea not so much that it actaully makes a difference but it makes you think about all the energy we use and where it comes from. Trekker 42
I wasn't even home that day, so I have no idea if Mom did it or not. And NR, you're lucky. At least you're reading a good book for school I hated every book I read for school except for The Count of Monte Cristo, The Things They Carried, and The Great Gatsby. MinimateEspo25
does drinking clear liquor make things clearer?
NorthRaider
does drinking clear liquor make things clearer? Maybe if you skip the "liquor" part and just go for water? And NR, you're lucky. At least you're reading a good book for school I hated every book I read for school except for The Count of Monte Cristo, The Things They Carried, and The Great Gatsby. Well, it helps if you intentionally chose said book as the subject of your college thesis. (Yeah... still scratches a few heads over at our Catholic girls' school. ) Edited March 30, 2009 by NorthRaider

Wow, how progressive. Ironically, the interior lights could power a small Sun! I happen to work in a Casino, and those lights will never dim (their own generators ensure that), far too much revenue at stake. Sorry to break the drum-circle, but designated "Earth-days" are futile exercises and a bit absurd. *BTW, I hear if you drink "thinner" you will lose weight!

drgnrbrn316
We at the HQ offices participated this year, though probably not for the "right reasons". JP and I had a bit of a drinking contest going on, and one of us threw up in the web server, which promptly flipped the breaker and left the office in the dark. It probably took us about an hour to stop laughing, let alone to look for the fuse box, so we technically went without for an hour or so. Sean Penn would be so proud of us.
