Martycc
Is it me or are DST really missing a trick not using their Stargate licence to bring out some more minimates? It really makes me wonder about the inner workings of toy companies when they don't seem to sell their big hitters and yet will invest in Desperately Seeking Susan minimates?!?!?! Is it just me that doesn't get this? A four-pack of the main SG1 team would sell like crazy, I'm sure of it. Best of all, the body sculpt could be the same for all four figures, you'd only need to do head scupts and a P90 and da ta! A box set. I think I'd just rather see these than Susan mates or for that matter any of the BTTF lines. Anyone else think the same way?

murderofcrows
stargate is a lame series. if they did make minimates of it. It would be the first series i passed on.
winkerbean
you either love it you or hate it, i for one love it an would love to see minimates of them (but i'll have to make do with the one's ive made myself) but i did just pick up the season 1 box set in zavvi for £25 & was wondering why it had an 18 certificate?? well it turns out in the pilot there's full on tits and bush in it, now if thats not a variant figure in the making i don't know what is
karamazov80
I don't watch that show, but the fact that the show has been on for years and has had spin-offs suggests that there may be a market for those things. Plus, DST seems to really focus on the sci-fi genre, for obvious reasons, so that's another reason that I could see this happening. Personally, though, I could care less (even though I saw the Stargate movie 4 times at the theaters when I was a wee young fella--beating out my record previously held by Jurassic Park!). In terms of future sci-fi TV lines, I would far prefer Twilight Zone or Firefly/Serenity Minis.
cdubya
I used to watch it for the first few seasons, but lost interest. I've only seen a couple of episodes of "Atlantis". However, I do know that many people continue to watch it and that the 6" figure line seems to have quite a following. I've always thought that these would make for a few great boxsets of 'mates and seem like a natural choice to me.

This has never been repeated, and future airings in the United States have had the nudity cut out for syndication. The DVD version, however, retains this scene. This episode is the only one in the series to be rated by the MPAA (it is rated R), while in the UK the episode is rated 18 by the BBFC. It is rated M in Australia, recommended for (but not restricted to) viewers 15 and older. All other SG-1 episodes have generally been rated PG, or 12, at most. pickle
I would also pass on Stargate minimates. Maybe DST knows something we don't......that there is no market for stargate minimates. I mean, they don't even have busts for Stargate, only action figures and 12" figures. And lets be honest: 1, minimates = small collector market = mostly us 2, action figures = large collector market = $$$$$$$ 3, why no Stargate? more like why no Buffy mates???? there is the real money The only reason we have 24 mates is because McFarlane has the rights for the action figures. Anyway, the best part about these little guys is that they are quite easy to customize. Look at the Stargate mates people have made, most look fantastic. I say if you want specific mates that DST is not making for some random reason, make them yourself. (or pay the amazing artists on here to make them for you like I did) but hey, I could very well be wrong.
The_Donster
Gotta say it, because no one else is Just because some folks would pass on it, doesn't mean that everyone would. I've never watched the show and have the figures. The same could be said for the SG-1 Mates, I'd buy them. Trust me, at the moment there are worst properties out there being made into Minimates and I just don't get it Why is it when anyone starts a "Why isn't there a this or that?" thread, there has to be someone who needs to chime in and say they wouldn't? Trust me when I say, you are in the minority on this one and SG-1 has a nice following. It's not your cup of tea? Fine, than ignore the thread. Just don't take the wind out of someone who wouldn't mind seeing this happen.

I'd have to pass. While SG1 mates might be cool, I couldn't see anything past a 4 pack. I don't think there's enough there for a series. You'd think there might be what with BSG and all, but BSG has something SG1 doesn't: Cylons.
The_Donster
Yeah, they don't have anything cool, like the Serpent Guards or anything Seriously, both BTTF and some crappy Madonna movie got made, why not SG-1?
karamazov80
Yeah, they don't have anything cool, like the Serpent Guards or anything Seriously, both BTTF and some crappy Madonna movie got made, why not SG-1? Well, this proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Being a huge 80s geek, I think the BTTF and 80s Madonna Minimates are the bees knees! And having just googled "Serpent Guards," I actually think they actually look sort of like College Mascots--what with the huge, cute animal head on top of the regular sized body. I can just see him running up and down the football field, clapping his hands together to the tune of "We Will Rock You." I guess that's cool, though. . .there are probably a lot of Disney World and NCAA fans just waiting to do some cool customs based on one of those. Seriously, though, this makes me think that DST could make a fortune manufacturing college mascot Minimates. I bet that LSU's Mike the Tiger, with removable giant tiger head showing coach Les Miles underneath, would fly off the shelves here. I would buy an entire army. The_Donster
Hey Karamazoo, give me a Sixteen Candles or any John Hughes 80 movie and I'm all over it. Not to mention, I do like the BTTF and look forward to Ferris Bueller Minimates anytime in the near future. I was just proving a point, if these can get made, than the SG-1 or Stargate Mates can get done. As you said "Well, this proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I could see these getting made and with the exception of the Marvel and DC Mates, I could see these being handled the same way the classic BSG Mates were, in a 4 pack. karamazov80
I understand. As I posted above, given that Star Trek, BSG, and Dr. Who are all sci-fi TV shows getting Mates, I would not be at all surprised to see SG-mates coming our way at some point (maybe when the Galactica line starts winding down). In fact, given the diversity of licenses we've seen, anything short of "Pink Flamingos," serial-killer-mates or porno-mates would not surprise me. I would probably buy a couple of those Serpent Guards, by the way. I think they could be awesome Minimates.

karamazov80
Well that's good, because we're getting Silence of the Lambs mates! True, we've also got the Joker, the Punisher, 24 villains, Marvel Zombies and Indio, amongst others I'm sure I'm forgetting. What we haven't got is the Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Ed Gein 4-pack. . .yet.
maxcarnage
While I don't watch SG-1 I do remember liking the movie. and I would most likely buy them, because I am a sucker for minimates. my guess the reason these have not been made is that SG-1 might not want action figures made. I mean some movie and shows just never get toys made of them, James bond, and it took so long for x-files to get action figures and those did not sell well at all. Come to think of it there were toys made of the original Star Gate movie, that had to be given away they sold SO poorly.

But there are SG-1 (and coming soon SG-Atlantis) figures...released through DST! This is why I think it's so hard for some to accept that they haven't trickled-over to the Miniverse yet. Perhaps that particular contract prohibits them from expanding into areas other than the 6" format. At any rate, not a huge SG-fan (there's plenty of other titles that I'd personally clamor for), but it does seem like a "no-brainer" that these would have been "minimatized".
