  1. Right around that time, every comic shop in town carried Minimates. It was often the case that one could buy the TRU line and get an exclusive plus all of the characters from the Comic Shop wave, disincentivizing Comic Shop sales . Very shortly after that, no comic stores in town carried Minimates anymore. I can only order online now. Thank goodness for Luke.
  2. I'm not married to a specific design. Played with a couple of different wing styles and some other things. I do kind of like the backwards swept wing style. I've had this challenge with the Viper and Thunderfighter as well where they are long thin ships and at first I make them too fat and stubby. The Blackbird, in any incarnation, is especially long and thin. On top of all that, I'm trying to make it hold two rows of mates, so it's really wide. If I dropped that feature, I could make it way narrower which would help a lot. But the fun of a Minimates Blackbird to me is the idea of transporting a team. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1997-men-blackbird-jet-original-box-504233662 - This toy is what inspired me to take a stab though mine will be much larger relative to the figures. I can always head back towards a more direct copy of that design if none of my ideas work out. I've been looking at this style which I think might be attractively deformed. https://www.ultimatepapermache.com/x-men-blackbird But it hasn't influenced the current iteration. Just poking around, I usually end up with something I like. I was absolutely dismayed at my first Thunderfighter. A couple of iterations later, it's my favourite of my designs. I might put the Blackbird aside for a while and move on to the Marauder that was supposed to be next. If you have some thoughts, I'm open to criticism and suggestions. Bear in mind that I'm also working with a somewhat primitive tool set.
  3. Funny. They would pick right up for me. The only MCU movie I've seen after Endgame was Guardians 3. Personally, I find almost everything coming out of Hollywood these days unwatchable. Whether or not one agrees with the political messaging is irrelevant. It's so one-sided and over the top that everything becomes boring and predictable. And every Marvel movie now has to be about saving all of existence from the most powerful bad guy ever.
  4. Still trying to find my way with the Blackbird. I feel like it's an improvement but still feel I can do better.
  5. I always picture bhm's shed to be more organized than Smaug's hoard and less so than the warehouse from the end of Raiders, and somewhat resembling both. LOL
  6. I'll say it again. Army builders would break the seal on me buying into this line. I have none as of yet. The main bad buy is Cobra Commander right? So what's he commanding then? I generally defend the decisions of DST because it's so easy to be an armchair critic and we don't know all that goes on behind the scenes. And I try to be always polite on the forum. But, seriously DST, if this line comes and goes and you did not try some kind of army builder pack, you are idiots. How is that not "the sky is blue" obvious?
  7. When that set came out, someone posted a QC Borgpool in the Star Trek thread. I meant to reply but never did. I used that bag to make Poolcard. It was Picard with a Deadpool head and that pack loaded up with scifi weapons like Casey Jones. I remember it holding a good amount of stuff.
  8. If you have the same colour bricks you can add one row of bricks per floor or whatever for a better fit. I have a building made from a bunch of Mega Bloks sets and I did exactly that. Obviously that won't work for every set. But it's a good option in some cases.
  9. Work on the Blackbird progresses. While it's an improvement over the first one, I'm just not feeling this one. I've been playing around but I just can't seem to get to where I feel it's a good representation. The latest:
  10. I'm not much of a comics guy but Kingpin looks really cool.
  11. Are those final photos Zach? I find is slightly off-putting when a figure has a super ripped stomach like that and no other muscle detail anywhere.
  12. @blogzilly Congrats on coming out of your shell. And welcome.
  13. Lot's of people. But I fail to see how the fridge offers any advantage over just plain boiling water.
  14. I'm surprised this run of puns is still going. I'd expect it to have lost its legs by now.
  15. A pair of needle nosed pliers in the peg hole with pressure applied to open them can offer some grab. I'd be careful with this technique and it's definitely not good for really stuck ones.
  16. We'll see how it goes. If anything, I'll be looking for ways to make it smaller. It takes over a day to print all of the parts for the single seaters I've made so far. This one could get ugly. I was considering peg holes and modular seating so bench seating might be a possibility but probably not. I'm going to move to a single pilot seat so I can fit it closer to the front. It's funny. I was going to work on the Marauder so Buck would have someone to dogfight with. But I remembered this roll of dark blue plastic I haven't put much use to and thought maybe I'll just play a little with a Blackbird design.
  17. I think I'm going to try to round the body a bit more. Or at least the roof.
  18. I heard that issue was doing well initially and then sales really fell off.
  19. Just to follow up on this. Dave kindly took me up on the offer and created a Bishop face for me. I used my technique of printing on clear sticker paper and painting the backside of the eyes white. It didnt\'t come out great. I'll post a photo once I get a chance to print on white sticker paper. Thanks Dave!
  20. You could reach out to Ivan. He still has an account here and checks messages from time to time if you don't mind maybe waiting a bit. I could create this model easily enough when my project queue thins out a bit. The only problem I have with uploading to Shapeways is that I'd have to order at least one myself and make sure it actually fits with Minimate parts. And if it doesn't then you gotta update and order another one. Not very convenient for me to help you out this way. I'd prototype on my own FDM printers. If that quality is good enough for you, we can probably work something out. But maybe try Ivan first. I've got lots of projects on the go and his is already done if you can get him to share or put on Shapeways.
  21. Hi Folks, Starting a new thread for custom figures. I've made a few Minimate customs that I'd like to post but it will be mostly 3d printed stuff of my own design. My first customs come with a bit of a story. Some of you may recall from my vehicles thread that my initial Cylon Raider was actually too small to hold a Cylon Minimate. I hate to be wasteful and this really bothered me. Soooo close. LOL But what to do with the 3 I had already printed? I have an idea. Lego minifigs are smaller than Minimates. How about a Lego minifig? There is no Cylon minifig. OK. There are lots of minifig parts on thingiverse. There is a helmet I can use. All I need is a torso. So I made a torso and completed a Lego Cylon. Problem solved. Right? Well not exactly. Can you guess what the problem is now? Seated, he's basically the same height as a Minimate. Grrr. What if I design my own Minimate-like Cylon figure. Maybe I can get some kind of speed boost or something. Well, that doesn't really help either does it? But if we can upscale the Raider to fit a Cylon Minimate, we can downscale a Cylon Minimate-like block figure to fit a Raider. This time, problem solved once and for all! The end.
  22. That's a bit of a leap isn't it? Wouldn't be the first time you jump to conclusions.
