Minimapocalypse!

Just finished the audio interview. Great questions from Dan, we were fortunate to have an interviewer with such a good background in Minimates. This was a truly fascinating discussion and really dove into some of the details of Minimates history. I'm glad Adam was credited too as he did a tremendous amount in the early years. Something that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is the streamlining of the manufacturing process put in place by Robert. They've really honed the production process. It sounds like the brand is healthy and the powers in charge are happy with the overall direction of the line. I love it that we are part of a rabid fan base that keeps Minimates going! It was so awesome to hear about Barry. His zombie story cracked me up. But how did Digger get past Homeland Security? And he's here in Los Angeles to boot. Meltdown is awesome but I don't recall ever finding any Minimates there. They do have some nice kiosks/displays for other indy properties but I wonder if manufacturers had to pay for the retail space to advertise.

Some plot problems I haven't seen addressed yet so feel free to explain to me:

Saw it today for American Father's Day. I agree whole heartedly with Ady's rant. No one has mentioned this yet but the Star Trek homage music drove me nuts. It really detracted from the movie and I rarely notice mood music in movies. But this was too much. I was waiting for the Star Wars Imperial song to come on next.

If I was "just getting into Minimates" I would be daunted by the amount of figures to collect. BUT there is some really good news and strategies to employ: 1) decide if you are an opener. If you dont care about packaging, you can pick up loose figures in lots for a significant discount on eBay 2) trade with dudes here - long time collectors like me bought a lot of extra shit when we were more flush with dough and we want to trade for new stuff - look through the Want Have lists 3) focus on team building, over time you will have a substantial collection

I throw in my 2 cents (although it's worth about 1 penny): Wave 50 won't hit until around May of 2013, so you can strike that off your list. Reminds me of the thread on Hisstank years ago when someone said they had collected like 15,000 original vipers. The guy said he started buying them up in the 90s and made it his life goal to get as many as he could because it was his favorite toy from childhood. Most likely a hoax as another member calculated the weight of so many figures to be extraordinarily high and highly unmanageable. And the poster vanished shortly after his revelation. But a part of me hopes there is a mad man crazy enough to amass such a pointless horde. BHM, I challenge you to acquire 15,000 Minimates!

(coughIronMan3cough) Im3 comes out in may. IM3 toy designs will be embargoed until at least Toy Fair 2013. They've probably started design but they won't actually hit until after wave 50. The next three released waves will be comic if my trusty magic eight ball is correct. The next four waves, you mean? 47 (X-men comics wave), 48 (?), 49 (?), 50 (Fan choice comics wave). Seems unlikely. Based on previous release schedules, I don't think they would be able to push out those four waves plus a fifth IM3 movie wave between September (when 47 is supposed to hit) and early to mid April (the month-or-so lead time they've been giving movie-based waves). I'd guess wave 48 is comic-based (we're due for a Spidey wave) in December/January, 49 is IM3 in April, and 50 hits around August of next year. Not sure how you are counting only four waves between now and next May. Let's take a look at the release schedule leading up to Avengers: Wave 40 released 6/1/11 compares to wave 46 released June 2012 (movie Spidey) Wave 41 released 8/17/11 = wave 47 in mid August 2012 (comic xmen) Wave 42 released 11/23/11 = wave 48 in late November for holiday shopping (comic fantastic four) synergy with TRU wave (comic space?) Wave 43 released 2/21/11 = wave 49 in feb 2013 (comic hulk wave) Best of Wave released 2/21/11 = ????? Wave 44 released 5/2/11 = wave 50 (fan comic wave) Wave 45 released 5/9/11 = wave 51 (im3) They could release another Best of Wave and still get 50 out before the movie wave.

I'm calling it. Waves 48 and 49 will be Fantastic Four and Hulk waves. Moloids will be an army builder. FF villain will be Puppet Master.

I hope you are right Gilbob, but with waves 42, 44 and 45 being Avengers,43 & 46 being Spidey, and 47 X-men, I think there is a good chance waves 48 and 49 will be Hulk, Daredevil, andor Space themed. I'm putting money on a Hulk wave. Hulk was the break out surprise star of the Avengers movie at the same time DST would be planning those waves...

I think Magma's base is meant for Canonball. It fits his torso perfectly.

Masters of Evil 4 was the best team. Making Capt Am watch as they totured and beat Jarvis was twisted. Hercules was beaten to near death and hospitalized in a coma for a long time. Proof positive that wasp was the worst Avengers leader ever.

Proposal for DST: The local polls for wave 50 indicate that we will get Blue Ghost Rider but in the event that we don't might I suggest Wave 51 is a Ghost Rider wave (play on the unreleased wave 15). Call it "Wave 51 (15)". Fill the wave out with eye catching ghost rider themed options paired with A-listers who shared a cover with or had a team up with Gost Rider.

Found a full set at Burbank TRU. Someone had already claimed a set for themselves. All that's left are Spidey/Punishers and Daredevil/Kingpin.

I live by one simple rule: the man who dies with the most Minimates wins. I can't think of a property I wouldn't buy. Power Rangers might be a close one, but I'm sure Art Asylum would make them into such cool designs, I'd end up foolishly buying the complete DVD collection. There is a point of no return you reach and you become convinced that every single pop culture reference needs to be Minimated. I still haven't watched "24" but I got all the Minimates and lament the death of box set 3. The dark times really tested the brand and made it stronger. Edit: sorry I think I rambled on in the wrong thread.

That was a skit? I thought it was a reality show since the people were so authentic. I really want this wave so I'm going to bypass the 134 and take the 5 to the 118. Then I'm going to cut back around and go South on the 405. Then I'll jump on the 101 and head out towards the west valley TRU bt taking the Topanga Canyon exit. I could go the 134 to the 170 and exit Sheman Way to cut across the valley but that would leave me less time for Mirror. Mirror is paid benefit leave in California and mandatory.

Polls 2, 3, and 4 should be at least 90% new characters total since everything I read must be taken 100% literally. So where do we stand? Poll 2: 5 of 8 new characters as Bucky, Captain America, and Luke Cage are already in Minimates form. But since Winter Soldier is so different from Bucky, I'll count him as new. 6 of 8 new. This equals 75%. Poll 3: Another 6 of 8 as Apoc and Abom have been done. This equals 75%. So what does this mean? This means poll 4 will need to have more than nine and a half new characters to vote on to make Zach's statement true. However, if we count Cmdr Rogers as a new character as Zach has argued before, then we need more than eight and a half new characters in poll 4. Since the poll is limited to eight options, then we must conclude Zach is either a psychopath liar or he was speaking approximately when he said 90-95%. As I noticed a lack of Toad in poll 3, I am forced to conclude Zach is a psychopath. Unless Toad is coming out before Wave 50. Then I'll know he isn't a psychopath. Balls in your court, DST!

Hell yes! I might have to make an offer to the Rubber dudes to buy up their unwanted Ziks. An army of Zik would be cool. Zik only says one word, "Zik". It's the rate, tone, and pronunciation that gives their language meaning, though they tend to communicate with each other via hive think. "zik zik ZIK zikzikzikzik" is zik for "Die Ram Head!"
