  1. Does the DC license apply to comics only or does it also apply to other media such as animation?
  2. Kid Loki and Leah. Granted it's a small team but I'd love to have them.
  3. Surrounded but not defeated. Just landed, unaware of the danger.
  4. According to the ship date updates that was posted on May 9 on the Art Asylum site, wave 3 has been pushed to 07/11/12.
  5. Look out ladies, He's BACK! Larry Laffer, star of the classic Leisure Suit Larry series from Sierra On-Line has returned in Minimate form. Finished Larry last year and forgot to post him. With news that the Leisure Suit Larry Kickstarter successfully reached its funding goal, now seemed like the time to post.
  6. The first custom I did was of a headless from the Ultima rpg series. At the time I didn't have sealant and put the figure in a case with the idea of spraying it when I did get sealant. This didn't happen and when I looked at the figure again the original colours where showing through the paint. So I removed everything I'd done, used various solutions to remove much of the factory paint and redid the paint job for a mark 2 version. The character below is Lucas MacGuffin from MacGuffin's Curse by Brawsome with which I helped. The game is coming out next month (Apr. 19th if I'm not mistaken) and I realized I'd be able to make him fairly easily and I thought it'd be fun to show him to Brawsome's founder (who thought it looked terrific).
  7. They do prevent the elbow joint from bending.
  8. I picked up Spidey/Goblin and was impressed with the amount of accessories they managed to pack inside the packaging, and the figures do look good. The only disappointing thing about the set I picked up is that the heads for Parker & Osborne were improperly cast so the interior peg slot is warped and filled with extra material that prevents the heads from connecting to the torso.
  9. <raises hand> I do. Of the figures of this wave, SF1 Ryu is the one I want the most. He looks great and I'm glad to see he turned out so well. Thanks for the pics.
  10. Not sure if this was already answered, but was the TRU wave 2 being released at the same time as the regular wave 2 or were they getting their shipment ahead of the regular wave (similar to the release pattern of wave 1)?
  11. Cool Toy Review posted a release schedule (it's also on page 16 of the NY Toy Fair thread that DST provided. As part of wave 2, they've listed British Crewman & Skeleton Warrior and given we've only seen pictures of 5 new characters, it looks like some of the characters from the 4 pack will be in wave 2, with the remainder hopefully in a future wave 3. This is hopeful speculation on my part and needs to be confirmed of course.
  12. Nessex, thanks for your opinion. It helped give me the confidence to go forwards. As such, I've finished a version of the 7th Doctor from the beginning of Battlefield when he's inside the TARDIS. Why have only one Doctor when you have 2 and 8? I also expanded into characters from The Sarah Jane Adventures starting with Luke Smith. Finally, to celebrate The Next Generation's 25th anniversary (and the fact we only got 1 crew member), I've created Bev Crusher. I've had to adjust the brightness in Photoshop to detailing on the torso and upper arms to be more visible.
  13. I thought the Taskmaster/Spencer, Sentinel/Ryu, Wolverine/Joe & Spider-man/Chris sets were due out in February. Have the dates changed or has TRU.com jumped the gun?
  14. I'm a bit disappointed as I was hoping to help support the line through my local specialty/comic store. Given the pattern for TRU outside the US (TRU Canada specifically), I'm a bit concerned that any orders TRU makes will be cancelled and the line won't be available outside the US. I hope my concerns are unfounded as I do want to support the line and see succeed. If the 4-pack does become 2-packs, does that mean 4 new characters to complete a wave? Might be an opportunity to include a monkey or parrot accessory for a new character .
  15. My LCS has the Vendetta along with the Knight Rider cars. Question of my own, was a release date for the Pirate Army Builder set announced?
  16. Was out today and decided to swing by my TRU (London, ON) to see if someone had taken pity on the single remaining MVC (Hulk/Haggar - which was still there) and discovered we'd got wave 2 of Real Ghostbusters. It might be prudent to check and nab these as I've got a feeling they'll go fast.
  17. Found the MvC minimates at the TRU in my neck of the woods. They also had the Halo warthogs & Universal Monsters which was a bit of a nice surprise.
  18. Printed out a test sheet on standard paper and taped them to some Minimates just to see how they'd look without wasting decal paper in case I need to go back and make adjustments. The printer I use is an ink-jet so it may not produce as clear an image as a laser printer. My camera isn't doing so well so I apologize in advance for the general blurry-ness. Impulse - DC Comics character. I'm going to be using a Dagger figure as it's all white and the various pieces can be easily covered/painted. Still not sure if there's an existing hairpiece that would fit his hairstyle during this area nor how I'm going to go about with his face mask. Any suggestions? Roger Wilco - Space Quest series. This costume (when I get the right shade of purple for the arms and grey legs) is going to be a generalized version of his costume from games 2-4 (and 1 VGA if you want). 7th Doctor - Doctor Who. While I think the sweater is fine and was happy when I initially designed the face, I realized I did the face to small as the eyes of other figures are larger. Getting the face right is something I'm having trouble with and could use some help. I used a agency photo of McCoy from around 1992 which I found on the net as basis for the facial design (mccoy11.jpg on the McCoy page on shillpages.com wants to have a look at the original photo). After discovering the first design was too small, I thought I could simply scale the picture up but it doesn't look right to my eye. I went back and redid the face using the same photo at a larger scale. Again, it doesn't look like McCoy to me. Any suggestions on what I can do to make the larger scaled faces regain a recognizable features of McCoy's face would be greatly appreciated. It could be I'm being overly critical but I've stared at these for too long and I think fresh eyes and opinions would be helpful.
  19. Talked to an employee at the London, ON store today and was told that while there had been orders for Minimates, they'd been canceled.
  20. According to the latest news, the union has stated that the last minute proposals from Canada Post aren't enough to avert the strike. With less than 3 hours till the deadline, I'm resigned to the fact that this is going to happen. I just hope that it'll be relatively short.
  21. Still feeling a big numb and gutted since I heard the news of Elisabeth Sladen's passing. She'll be missed.
  22. Since there's a general lack of furniture & set pieces for Minimates, I've been working at developing objects that could be used for playsets/dioramas. Below is a 6-sided "mushroom" control console that's been the focus of my efforts so far. It's still a WIP as the central column needs to be created, and the panels still need to be done for decals/stickers. There is a plan to eventually create a 2nd version of the top panels that will have levers, dials and buttons. Nightwing & Batgirl posing by the console (for scale)
  23. I'm still of the opinion that Dax could of been shorter, especially when you look at Clank... unless his height was something Sony mandated. Hopefully some online vendor will scoop up some of these so non-US residents can purchase them. I do find it curious that the Comic Shop Locator & Diamond Select Toys logos are on the back of the packaging. I've not seen those on the packaging on other exclusive Toys R Us minimates. Edit: Meant to say Dax should have been shorter. Goes to show you shouldn't try posting/editing anything five minutes before you need to leave for work in the morning
  24. Man-Spider (entry for the Alternate Universe Minimate Customizing Contest) The above figure is comprised of Spiderman-3 Minimates (1 wave 17 Black-Suited Spiderman, 2 wave 18 Unmasked Black-Suited Spider-Man, and the face from a wave 17 Peter Parker) and my first use of Super Sculpy. The inspiration for the custom was taking the name "Spiderman" at it's most literal and take the concept to it's most "body-horror"-ish. Then it was a matter of filing the parts so they became rough, painting the figure & attaching the Sculpy section. Sisko from Trials and Tribble-ations. Done by swapping Sisko's head & hands onto a Sulu body.
  25. Marvel: For the State universe Man-Spider “All orphans are to become children of the state, for only the state can ensure they survive to become productive members of our society” - excerpt of Chairmen Stark’s speech on the function of orphans & orphanages. When Peter Parker’s parents, uncle and aunt were killed in what was described as an attack by anti-government dissidents, Parker became a child of the state at the age of fifteen. After the state officials thoroughly researched his educational records, it was decided that Parker would be placed within the Ministry of Science at the Baxter Institute under the care of Science-Director Richards. After a short interview, Richards decided that Parker was ideal in helping with a section of the “Theoretical Genetics” program that was conduction research with spiders. After long weeks of tests, injections, DNA-splicing, radiation treatments and genetic grafts, the project succeeded in developing treatments that would imbue the government’s security forces with superhuman strength, speed and agility, perfect balance and equilibrium, a precognitive sense that would activate in dangerous situations and the ability to cling to walls. Richards was satisfied with the success of the program and Parker’s contribution… not that Parker was able to appreciate that fact. His body had been warped into a grotesque monstrosity and his mind broke during the long weeks of testing. When he was scheduled for an “early retirement” for services to the state, he killed the guards taking him to the incinerator and managed to escape the building. Acting on instinct, Parker fled deep into the tunnels beneath New York City where he found and built himself a lair.
