  1. I'm a little sad that we didn't get Banner this time around, but I think we're going to have plenty of chances in the future judging by any one scene with the Hulk did more to remind people why they love the character than the entirety of the other two movies; they're already talking about a solo film with Ruffalo so I think our chances are good. As for the Other and "Man #1", I'd say they're locks at some point in the future. Great designs on both! The TRU wave finally popped up last Friday at my local store and I picked up Hawkeye/Widow and Loki/Fury. Hawkeye's just great and Widow manages to improve on the IM 2 version with some awesome new holsters. Loki is very cool as well and I especially like his golden bracelets. Even Fury is nice with a brand new coat; I was expecting him to be too close to the IM 2 release but I think they've both got strengths. I like the chest detail, holster and rocket launcher with this one but like the coat/sleeves and likeness on the Battle Tactics version. I would have probably picked up Cap/Thor as well but the ones I saw had some of the shiny paint scratched off the shield; I don't mind waiting for the DM case anyway, especially since Iron Man and Hulk were already gone. Anyone who collect the Halo 'mates like the Chitauri as kind of background aliens? I'm surprised more people aren't excited for that option.
  2. Are there multiple Wendigos? I think a better army builder would be a green fatigues Army man! I'd be down for this wave if Transformation Hulk could be stripped down to regular Bruce Banner. There used to only be one Wendigo, as it was a curse that was passed along from person to person, but in a recent Hulk appearance (I think it was in the Loeb run) there were a herd of them. As for a Hulk wave, I think it'd be a great idea! The Avengers movie is really reminding people why they like the character, in a way that the other movies didn't quite achieve, so it'd be a great chance to show off the character and his supporting cast/villains. Put in Constrictor somewhere and I'm fine with any lineup though the recent Loeb/Pak/Parker characters are probably the most logical choices for Hulk "variants".
  3. I think this would be a killer lineup though I agree with the thought some have had of GSXM Storm and Thunderbird not looking so great. I'd raise that by one Colossus but that's an easy fix if some extra boots are included with the wave 47 version... Pretty please? Though my totally selfish wave would probably be: - Morbius/Songbird - Darkhawk/Vulcan - Baron Helmut Zemo (classic gear)/Awesome Android - Variant: Helmut Zemo (New Thunderbolts look) There's a very loose theme of the non-army builders having operated on both sides of the law, though that depends on how you interpret Darkhawk's role in War of Kings. I really dig both looks for Zemo as they're from different eras I'm a huge fan of and the Mad Thinker's android is kind of a stealth armybuilder in a way. I'd save a hypothetical Squirrel Girl as the possible anchor/selling point for a GLA boxset and the hopes and dreams of a united Multiverse to get Rocket Raccoon and Toad.
  4. The SHIELD Agents don't really have a ton of distinctive looks; really other than Coulson and Hill, the only ones we see do anything are Jasper Sitwell (unnamed in the movie but was in the short on the Thor blu-ray; he's the guy with the shaved head and glasses) and an agent sitting at a monitor who's part of a (very funny) gag. For the most part, they're sitting at monitors on the Helicarrier. I haven't had great luck with the Wave 43 SHIELD Agents either; my LCS skipped the wave for some reason and most of the options on places like Amazon are basically half the cost of buying a full set anyway. Hope I hit another con this summer where DST has a booth! Still no luck for the TRU release here but our store's funny like that; they probably have 30 pegs worth of the Marvel Legends scale IM line but no actual Marvel Legends. They did just get the Superfriends wave of DCUC though!
  5. I went and picked up Scott Lang today and I'm very pleased with how he and the Kree Sentry turned out. I wasn't really too excited for the Sentry but he's awesome, especially his boots. Besides, that helmet piece is just waiting to be used for a custom of the Growing Man to stand alongside Kang. Scott himself is great and I'm really glad to get the first piece of merchandise ever with this costume (heck it may be the first version of Lang unless that was taken by the ML Ant Man). My compliments to the design of his eyebrows as they've got some unique flares to them along the whole of each brow. It's a detail that's beyond my limited photography skills though.
  6. Thanks Groundhog! It's definitely the kind of book I push on friends who read comics as it really gets you ready for some of the crazier parts of the Marvel Universe without leaving you clueless as to who some of the characters are. Plus you can find the trade or singles for cheap at most cons without a lot of effort. Are there still talks of Wave 50 being a "fan appreciation" wave? I hope so as that sounded really fun and would give them a chance to do some really interesting characters that wouldn't make a lot of sense together otherwise. As for Avengers, Kirby's name is in there 3 times, the two mentioned before along with appearing in the 'special thanks' section alongside Don Heck and others like Bryan Hitch etc...
  7. I say the same thing about Batman. As for Squirrel Girl, read Great Lake Avengers Missasembled. I agree, 'Misassembled' is great! Slott really has a lot of fun with the fact that he's writing comics specifically and it's much funnier then a lot of the humor stuff Marvel's put out (I'm looking you "Shame Itself"). It seem sadly underappreciated as a parody book, I guess because it was actually published by the company being parodied; that's the genius of it though as it is genuinely funny while actually fitting into the Marvel Universe as a whole. Plus: Batroc! I love Squirrel Girl but I think writers other then Slott don't really know how to work with his version; having her and Wolverine have a terse discussion about agreeing to not see each other again just seems like it's trying too hard and the stuff with Daredevil that followed was more then a little weird. The fun of SG is that she's played as overpowered in proportion to her goofy appearance; seeing her defeat Thanos off-panel isn't meant to show that he's a chump but to make fun of how writers unnaturally push characters by having them school someone out of nowhere. Sentry took that to the extreme, what with decapitating Attuma, tearing Carnage in half etc... Terrax is a beloved victim of the trend as he doesn't have a huge fan following but is implied to be a huge threat automatically having been a herald. Don't hate SG because she's overpowered! Laugh at the sincerity of the comedy behind those beatdowns! Besides, I'm sure Slott has some clever story cooked up to make the ridiculous aspects of her canon actions make sense, like being able to warp reality as a side-effect of working for the Time-Variance Authority or something. He always does. Seriously, GLA: Misassembled is so great; Mr. Immortal gets one of my favorite punchlines in anything ever in it. I'd dig some comic creators minimates. Kirby himself had a cameo as "God" in Waid's FF and members of the Marvel office have appeared in comics canon for ages. Heck, Cap worked at Marvel for a while as the artist on his own book! I'm all for Don Heck as I think people kind of forget he exists; I'd love Ditko as well but I heavily doubt he'd let his likeness be used if that became an issue. Then again, they'd have to find him first... As a brief aside, Kirby's name apparently appears in the Avengers credits twice: once for the creation of Cap, the other for the creation of the Avengers as a concept/comic. This is what I heard on Twitter last week but I'll confirm personally when I see it tonight.
  8. Clerk at my LCS just texted me to say that he pulled Scott Lang for me! Looking forward to tomorrow very much, though it seems they haven't gotten Wave 45 yet
  9. I thought Abomination turned out decently but seeing that custom makes me want a redo in that style! It looks amazing, so much that I'm more on board with minimates in the new 'mega rage' style then I was before. It's thatgood! As for the rest of this four pack, I'm very excited for Maestro and Mr. Fixit; I haven't read any of Aaron's Hulk but I think that hairpiece for that 'mate might be great for Conan QCs again. Composite Hulk is the one I'm least excited about but he does look unique. Hoping his pants will end up a similar blue to TRU FF wave Thing as that version just missed the oversized leg piece upgrade we've seen lately.
  10. I'm also much more excited about the humans than the zombies; it's going to be a bonanza of new hats, coats, sleeves, and hands! I'm probably going to end up being at least two of any set with a human character, one for my actual collection and the other just for parts. Yay for some more senior citizen minimates to fill out civilian displays! Of all the releases I'm probably the most excited for Glenn for his baseball cap and the potential that his head might make a better Jimmy Woo then Agent Zero's.
  11. You mean will they only put out one set out, not realizing there are two different sets? That could be a problem if they ship each in separate cases, but I think the fact that one has a big picture of Cap and the other has a big picture of Iron Man will help (I mean that completely seriously, BTW, so I hope it doesn't sound sarcastic). If they are shipping in the same case, I don't think it will be a problem at all, as DS usually stuffs the pegs full. Yeah, when Disney Store actually puts something out, they mean business; I think there were about 30 or so Classic Heroic Age sets to pick from when mine stocked them. Plus, this may just be a quirk of mine, but the employees there are actually pretty helpful if you ask them a question. This makes me wonder if these are going to be shipping together or in separate cases for some reason.
  12. Hey, welcome back! I recently returned to active posting myself so it's nice to know I'm not the only one. You definitely came back at an interesting time...
  13. As the guy who just recently did one of these himself, welcome! That's cool you dig the clearance minimates but I'm too paranoid to play with fire like that; I see something with a 'TRU Exclusive' sticker on it and suddenly I'm already walking to the register before anything else happens. I'm surprised that if you were at C2E2, you skipped the one booth that had the Deadpool Corps on sale for $12!
  14. Bought MvC3 Spidey and Chris Redfield yesterday, making small discovery for those who opt out of headcaps: MvC3 Spidey's head is pretty close to being the same shade of red as Spider-Girl. Not sure if this had been discovered or not. Anyone have a good suggestion for a Ben Reilly 'unmasked' head/hair combo? Ben had a dyejob that sometimes extended to his eyebrows according to the artist at that particular time so I'm wondering if I should just use a normal Spidey head or try to find a similar head with blonde eyebrows. I'm thinking Ultimates WW2 Cap/XM:FC box Angel for hair (with other possible choices being 'Reborn' and TRU Cap from BD Wolverine pack)
  15. Aw man... you just reminded that I can't find my Kraven (or Taruntula for that matter) as he's part of a missing box of Minimates that includes my Wave 19 extras and all of my Iron Man 1 'mates. *sigh* Also, like a schmuck, I never got the Friends and Foes set; it never appeared anywhere near me for some reason and when I bought the set as loose figures at C2E2 last year, I left the bag with them in the parking garage when we left. *sigh* X2 The uneven colors on Shocker do hurt him a little but I think that's part of why I liked him so much this time around. Another nomination: Doctor Strange. Picked him up today to hang out next to Dormammu and I'm surprised how well he holds up. Heck, that whole boxset holds up despite the looseness of Namor's vest!
  16. We're off to a good start with Box as I thought he'd far and away be the least likely one we'd get, even if it is Box IV. I agree with Nessex that Northstar and Aurora might be a two-pack unless they're doing a pair of boxsets, ala Age of Apocalypse. If so, that'd be crazy great! They're obviously ready to make a Sasquatch as he's probably the Alpha Flight member with the most "cred"; really, I can't imagine them leaving him for later as him and Puck basically are in most people's minds. Hellpop, I think the reason we all think of the original team is because things got really crazy after a while. I hadn't realized how many new characters were created in that book, even before Byrne left and frankly it's hard to keep track of them. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you what the differences between all the different Box armors are until you get to Jeffries. It's really a staggering number of cast members introduced, not a lot of which really got used in other places. If Quesada knows what Aurora's up to, can he remember where Purple Girl is?
  17. As much as I love Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket Raccoon has more media exposure from UMvC3; also, I want to see Dan Slott dance with joy when he sees a Squirrel Girl minimate presented to him. But why stop at Squirrel Girl? There's an entire boxset WAITING to be done for the Great Lakes Avengers! The best part is that anything used to make Big Bertha could easily be reused to make a 616 Blob and Doorman would probably be the cheapest minimate of all time, even with his Deathurge gear. Well, cheapest next to Flatman. He could just be a cardboard cutout on the back of the box, like they did with "Marvel Legends" Flatman. Seriously though, I love Rocket Raccoon but it wouldn't be the same having him without at least a Groot to go with him. Maybe GotG and GLA can be the convention exclusive boxsets next year?
  18. Slipover mask. Wasn't there a Kang where he just had the blue head? In the old Avengers cartoon, maybe? And no, Reaper doesn't have a hairpiece. But if he was a blonde, he'll have his pick of the toupee shop. Avengers: United They Stand did indeed have a blue headed Kang. The less said about the designs on that show, the better. 616 Reaper's been seen blond, brown haired, even grey. I suspect the later is his real color these days and Eric dyes his hair... just like his little brother. One more annoying question: are the orange parts of Thor's torso block intentional? Or is that just how the press photography shows him? Maybe I'll get the FF someday soon; I bought one from Luke's last week for my friend who just started collecting, so I'll probably be tempted into getting one when he opens his. Oh man, United they Stand... Yikes. Kang also had crazy dual katanas if I remember right, unless that was just on the toy. Funny how the Ultron from that line was, up until the DST release, the most accurate depiction of the character as a non-minimate. Simon being grey was actually in Avengers V.3, right? I didn't know dying his hair was addressed in the comics as that's oddly interesting; I wonder who wrote that. Makes sense since I think he's been both brown and black as well but I'll note that the short brown hair with the SHIELD Agent makes for an excellent modern Wonderman hairpiece.
  19. I'll admit that of the current stuff, Wave 44 was probably the wave I was the least excited about but I'm glad they've got a substantial amount of extra parts; I hadn't preordered them yet but this is probably going to change my strategy as I want at least two of both Kang and Hawkeye. I can probably find a home for all the extra Caps I'll end up with, as I have an inordinately large number of friends who love the character and I can't really see any drastic difference in this version, outside of it's potential to make me fixate on which is my "definitive" Cap. Other than the new figures, the most exciting part of this for me is that the Disney Store still has an active interest in carrying Minimate product. Anything that can result in us getting new and different 'mates is great and there's always new people that are getting brought into the line. I just had a friend start buying them en masse at C2E2 and he's as excited for Kang as most of us are. I never got the FF set but I liked how it was a shared exclusive that actually appeared at my store without a lot of effort in looking for it. Speaking of Kang, is his head a sculpted piece or is that a slipover mask on a normal head? And will Reaper have a hairpiece? Very excited to see the tray pictures! On a side note, I'm glad I can finally break down my only Dark Hawkeye back into his normal state after being QC'ed into a standard version.
  20. With the imminent reveal of the Kang minimate, I picked an excellent time to come back; again everyone, thanks for the well wishes! Though Nessex, I'll probably keep the SF mates if I get any of the SFxTekken stuff. Sorry if that sounded weird, it was mostly meant to indicate I'm not familiar with most of the Namco characters that are appearing as I only know those in Soul Calibur. Admittedly, I haven't done a ton of research either since most fighting game characters have backstories worthy of an epic classic chinese novel but, if nothing else, I'll appreciate them for parts.
  21. Shocker is a 'mate that continues to surprise me every time I pick him up. He's such a simple design but I think he has the best of the slipcover heads and looks cool in almost any pose. The fact that he's a character barely even known for having an alter-ego makes that removable mask the extra mile for me. Really, the only story I can think of where him not being in costume for longer than a panel was Deadly Foes of Spider-Man. Just a great execution of a fun design who really adds some color to a Spidey display
  22. While I like Bachalo's art, I think it can be hit or miss from a figure standpoint. He always has good layouts though. I agree heavily about dialing it down some, especially in the case of Ramos; his stuff in Spectacular Spidey v.2 (which I honestly just kind of hated in general) had a panel where Nick Fury was yelling in such a way that it looked like his jaw was broken. He's dialed it back in his current ASM stuff and I'm enjoying his art a lot more without distracting thoughts like "why does Doc Ock have no chin or neck?" To be on topic, I remember viewing the art sheets for at least Dani on the DST website but can't find them now; does anyone have a link?
  23. This is Bachalo from Generation X #1 And this is Bachalo from when James Robinson (!) was writing the title, which seems to start in the 30's. So the answer, from what I can tell, is that he drew everything that we're all thinking of. It's interesting as he didn't know he changed his style so drastically and even then 'Assault on Weapon Plus' is even more extreme than the colored Generation X page. Apparently he shifted his style to be in line with the art of Joe Madureira in the late 90's, which gradually spun off into a newer style He's the current artist on Wolverine and the X-men with Jason Aaron writing. I really am impressed, I didn't realize how much he alters his style even within the same project; his covers can depart from his interiors drastically. As a side note, I'd always been used to his "new" style and had not realized he co-created Generation X. Interesting to see how his old work on the title actually resembled Pat Olliffe a little bit.
  24. I love Squirrel Girl but I agree about her appeal; in fact, that appeal is so rare and elusive, it's almost impossible to replicate judging by her weird appearances in New Avengers. Bendis had her hit on Daredevil and it seemed much more weird than it did funny. That's an excellent point about Toad; too bad DST can't just haul off and do a "League of Losers" wave with him and Squirrel Girl together. I think Toad's more likely than SG though as I can't imagine them ever using any potential parts for her tail ever again. As for the Cuckoo's maybe they can pack them with another army builder for double the mileage, labeling the Cuckoo as Esme or something. She was the best known of the 5 (from the stuff I've read) and putting her with a less likely/appealing army builder would possibly boost its profile.
  25. Good points guys; it does make sense as they already pushed Black Widow as a result of Iron Man 2 so Hawkeye is kind of an unknown quantity. I get where they're coming from as back when Thor came out, I had to explain to my Dad who the guy with the bow was as he didn't realize Hawkeye was being played by "the Hurt Locker guy". Didn't know that about Byrne but it doesn't surprise me knowing that when he took over WCA he really had some intense changes in mind. Now that I think about it "would you guys ever consider doing a villain for a 'through the ages' pack?" would have been an awesome question for the C2E2 panel.I think Doom would be a natural but they've already done a number of his different looks already, outside of the 2099, FF and Unthinkable versions mentioned in the rest of the thread. Since Dr. Strange and Ant-Man are rumored for movies, maybe they'll be next. I'd definitely dig any of the ones mentioned by you guys though I'd insist an Astral Form mate be a clear version of the figure from the Defenders set for the sake of continuity (unless there was a new 2 pack version coming out for it to resemble).
