  1. Probably needlessly petty of me, but C3 hit Big-W, K-Mart and you guessed it, Toys-R-U in Oz, so technically we did have Minimates. Once apon a time... Cyc I DO remember those, but it was when i was 'only collecting' X-men 'Mates. Since then i have expanded to Avengers. . . and Spiderman. . . and then Batman & his Rogues Gallery. . . then Teen Titans, now Marvel & DC in general. . . JUST HOOK IT TO MY VEINS Oh - Fo Shizzle! The new design is sweet. And i think it's cool that Bucky took up the mantle. I hope Marvel has the balls to keep Steve dead for a good long time before ressurecting him with a magic lamp or whatever it is that they plan to do to bring him back!
  2. I think the 'Frosted' variant is sans belt if you need an Iceman that's a Champion rather than an X-Man.
  3. way to watch out for the foreign Mates ; ) I'm sure i speak for all Ozzies, Kiwi's, Canucks etc. . . when i say a huge thank-you for being willing to help out.
  4. Wel - i hope the Desperately Seeking Susan gets shown some love. They were some SERIOUSLY well made 'Mates. I'm looking forward to see how the polls turned out : )
  5. well I think the new Cap design stinks lol....honestly I cant get into it, may try the trades, but in secret invasion and so far in new avengers I havent seen anything to get me excited....plus I know karamazov is a good guy that likes to help us non-americans-who-hate-their-canadian-tru-for-not-getting-these but I will buy the minimate happily and use it in my story/comic/movie project just for the heck of it Jeff of the Miniacs I often find that when my situation stinks, looking at those even worse of makes me think 'Well - at least i'm better than SOMEONE!' In that spirit, it may 'comfort' you to know that here in Oz (Australia) TRU don't carry ANYTHING other than hulk & spiderman toys. Marvel legends stopped at the Annihalus wave. And they have NEVER stocked MiniMates. In fact, most Comic Book Specialty stores don't carry them either. The last waves that made it to my town were Spiderman 3 & then the Avengers wave. Nothing since then & after talking with my local ComicBook guy - it looks like they will be the last. So - when Canada seems isolated and short on 'Mates, thank your lucky stars that you don't live in Oz! PS: In case you are wondering, kids from Oz get through the day by saying to themselves 'At least we don't live in New Zealand'.
  6. OH NO! I know it's too late - but for what it's worth, here are my choices! Alright - here goes. Just a heads up: I'm only rating and ranking series I have bought or handled in person, or are from a licence I collect. Since i have no contact with the Trek or BSG 'Mates - they have not gotten any mention. 01) BEST MINIMATE (top 3 choices) Death Archangel Susan (Desperately Seeking Susan) Apocalypse 02) WORST MINIMATE (top 3 choices) Civil War Iron Man - man that one stunk! Gorilla Grodd Professor Hulk - loved the grin, hated the lack of neck and costume and duck feet. 03) BEST PACKAGING (one choice) Desperately Seeking Susan - Perfectly capturing the 80's. (runner up: Civil War - Most dynamic, eye catching box design in my opinion) 04) BEST BOX SET/WAVE (one choice) Marvel MiniMates Wave 19 - almost all of them were 5 star 'Mates. Especially Death, Apocalypse, Mysterio & Ultron 05) WORST BOX SET/WAVE (one choice) Marvel MiniMates Wave 22 - the sculpting was decent, but the selection of character was pretty boring for anyone who wasn't a hulk fan. 06) SEXIEST MINIMATE (top 3 choices) - male or female Nightwing - The boy is STEAMING Starfire - On Fire Polaris - The girl has a magnetic personality 07) BIGGEST SLEEPER (top 3 choices) - unexpectedly good, an unsung hero Desperately Seeking Susan - Everyone boo'd the choice, but they were some of the most accurate, well sculpted 'Mates of the year. Red Son Superman & Wonder Woman - The signalled the end of the line, but were variant WORTH making/owning Task Master & US Agent - Accessories Galore & Creative re-use of already molded parts 08) IF ONLY... (one choice) - most wanted 'Mate that still hasn't been produced/announced Mr. *freaking* SINISTER!!!!!!!! 09) FAVORITE CUSTOM (top 3 choices) - posted on this board in 2008 HELLFIRE CLUB! - I'd buy this box-set in a heartbeat! http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.ph...amp;#entry90259 Lilandra http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.ph...amp;#entry82992 Rachel 'The Hound' Summers http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/index.ph...amp;#entry87268 Will you Marry me, Luke314pi? (Deathbird was a VERY close 4th place. If she had her wings, i'd have bumped her into 2nd or 3rd place) 10) BEST ACCESSORY (top 3 choices) Archangel's Death Mask Susan's Hat-Box Hank Pym’s Helmet (if i could talk to the animals . . . ) 11) WORST ACCESSORY (top 3 choices) duck feet Duck Feet DUCK FEET! - we don't want ‘em till we get a Howard the Duck 'Mate!!! 12) BEST VARIANT (one choice) Archangel - no contest! 13) WORST VARIANT (one choice) MK War Machine - Jim Rhodes - Because he should have been the PRIMARY release, not a 'variant' *Grrrr* and finally, because he deserves it: 14) BEST IRON MAN OF '08 (top 3 choices) Stealth Iron Man Mk II War Machine (James Rhodes) Modular Iron Man
  7. If they are made avaiable - i'll buy a set if the retail at a fair amount.
  8. Well - in fairness, we haven't seen the film yet. Gambit may be a short cameo, while Agent Zero may turn out to be a major player. Don't get me wrong, i'd love a gambit Movie 'Mate, but i can understand why they might be holding back on him if he's not in the film very much. I imagine it's the same reason we aren't seeing a 'Captive Emma Frost' 'Mate. edit: Sorry - just read TTF's post 'I gotta say though, that wolvie packed with Zero is really unneeded. I'd have much rather have gotten Gambit or "Baraka" Deadpool . I suppose this is to mean that he won't that big a role after all??' should have read the whole thread first. my bad. Also: I'm with you Two-Face in your latest rant. I was in heaven last year when Wolverine wasn't in the monthly X-Men OR Uncanny X-Men titles. It gave the other characters a well deserved chance to shine. It's called X-Men . . . not short, hairy canucks with agression issues. I get that he's popular, and i'm happy he's a a part of the marvel universe. I'm just sick of him being the centre of it.
  9. Oh WOW! She's not unzipped, but the girl is still the slinkiest russian spy ever to be 'Mated! wait - that came out wrong. . . perhaps i should have said 'ever to be 'Mini-ed'?
  10. Wow 5 Pairs of Minimates PLUS the variant. That's a big wave . . . and a whole lot of Logan . . . i mean James. . . i mean Wolverine. . . i mean . . . . whatever.
  11. Dang - i had the Exact same problem with my Apocalypse My Kitty also lost a leg at the knee joint - so when i pose her, she's always phasing through the floor I'm in Oz & didn't think there was much point in writing in about it. Getting MiniMates in the first place is hard enough, let alone replacement parts.
  12. Hercules!!!Hercules!!! Hercules!!! We've had enough of the Big Green Gumby! ______________________________________________________ "He'll be as strong and flexible as Gumby and Hercules Combined!" "Gumbercules?!?! I love that guy!"
  13. I guess this really can't be considered "beating a dead horse" since this is a legitimate mystery... wasn't it iron-Cow or somebody who said he knew who they were but just wasn't allowed to say so because of DCD? I kinda like karamazov's guess (I'm almost POSITIVE they'd do Martian Manhunter), but I'm hoping they would've at LEAST put in some of Batman's most iconic villains in too (like Mr. Freeze, Two-face or Poison Ivy). Oh, and maybe Black Canary too, though that seems highly unlikely. Yeah. . . i was pretty unchuffed that they missed so many great opportunities like Ivy, Two-Face & Freeze (would have been the BEST MiniMate of the line) in favour of 'Battle Damage’ characters & Ambush Bug. Having said that, it's commendable that they did their best to keep new characters coming out & to fill out the lines with supporting cast members rather than making 18 WonderWomen (Iron Men), 19 Supermen (Wolverine) & 29 Batmen (Spiderman). Maybe their commitment to a diverse spread of characters is (sadly) what contributed to the downfall of the line?
  14. Yeah - the Miss Marvel/Ultron 2 pack was part of a deal i got on eBay & i had planned to sell them on . . . but i love them, have decided to keep them & now want more Avengers. LOL. 'JUST HOOK THEM TO MY VEIN'
  15. First off: Sorry to post on an all but dead thread (you'll get that a lot from me, since it takes a bit longer for 'Mates to reach me here in Oz). I've just received my Secret Invasion pack in the mail & i've gotta say, i'm pretty impressed. After leaping between being Livid with excitement when the set was announced, I started to feel a bit let down when the set started getting a bit of negative feedback regarding heads & hair not fitting, poor paint apps, etc. Now that i have mine, i'm back to being chuffed again  The sculpts on the additional parts are excellent & the paint apps on mine are almost flawless with one or two very minor areas (gloves & mask lines could be sharper). As i expected, Jean is my favourite. I'm also incredibly stoked to finally get a REAL Beast. But, to my surprise, underdog Jewel is REALLY growing on me. Her hair sculpt is fantastic. Her bright colouring makes her standout amongst the other 'Mates. She's a really great, dynamic looking MiniMate. This whole set is a pretty big winner with me. UNFORTUNATELY - Jewel (along with the recent Ultron & Vision) has gotten me interested in non x-men 'Mates. Until now I have restricted myself to buying sets that contained X-Men characters, but i feel that those days are now at an end. . . God help me and my cheque-book!
  16. I'd love for this angle to 'parts swapable' so that we can give him his Red & White X-men costume, but based on the concept art it looks like the yellow on the gloves & boots is painted onto the shins & forearms too - so the yellow is a permenant fixture Still - i'm stoked to be getting a feathered Angel AND the classic Ghost Rider. Here's hoping they round out the set with Hercules, Black Widow &/or Darkstar. I don't think we'll be seeing an Iceman just because his appearance isn't different enough to warrant a new release of him. Perhaps if he were more of an all round Headline character like spidey, we would - but i don't see him showing up in this set.
  17. Oh man! Just one (1) MiniMate? Well the Wave i want most is 28. I've been waiting on Psylocke, Gambit & Sabretooth 616 for a LONG time. In the wave itself i think it comes down to Psylocke, Gambit & the Sabreteeth. The Wolverine looks great - but i already have 8 of him. I'm knocking Gambit out, even though his sculpt is near perfect, because i have been aching for more villains & females. So - between the 'Teeth & Psylocke . . . I think i'm going to have to pick First Appearance Sabretooth. Out of the 3 'Mates left, i think this one best captures the character while still retaining the minimate feel. Psylocke comes in at a VERY close second. Or Maybe Gambit. . . or possibly Jim Lee era Sabretooth. Or perhaps he should be my 1st pick? PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE BETWEEN MY CHILDREN!!!
  18. Judging from the pics, they're different hand pieces for sure. Psylocke's hex bolt has that distinct purple-fire look to it, while Gambit's appears to definitely have some outline of a playing card engraved into it. (I'm hoping to\he final release versions of these would have the playing card detail painted on or something.) I'm also hoping both are molded in clear plastic to better emulate the characters power signatures.
  19. LOVES IT! AOA is still my favourite cross-over/event of all time. This is an awesome design! if anyone decides to materialize it, i'd love to commission it. This is brilliant! You should have entered it into the Black & White contest!
  20. If he pops up on Toys R Us online like Stealth IM did, I would be happy to play the go-between to save some of you guys in the UK/Canada/etc. some cash by sending him for cost. I made the offer last time, and no one really seemed interested I'm VERY interested - I'd be happy to Paypal some cash to you if you're willing to send them as far away as Australia. I think that sounds like an excellent idea. After a bit of hunting on eBay i found the Secret Invasion set for $43 after conversion. And that was the absolute best deal i saw on there. After shipping and conversion - international collectors can end up spenind a mint on these little buggers.
  21. If you are referring to DST's choice for Minimates, how might they account for this?: http://minimatedatabase.com/series.php?i=124 Honestly, I don't mind their not doing polls, because they give us such cool, wacky characters anyway, but I don't exactly buy the argument that they don't let fans choose Minimates (even for one character in a wave or something) because they fear they will be too obscure or won't sell. I'm sorry, but Gamora? Cloak? Spymaster? Gotta admit - with the exception of the Rampant Wolverine/Spiderman love, there have been some exceptionally cool obscure choices for MiniMates - especially in the Box Sets and exclusives. Mariko, Thunderbird, Valkyrie! Heck - we got Deathstrike insanely early: well before the likes of 1st rung X-Villains like Mystique & Apocalypse! To be honest - I didn't even know who Spymaster was before this set came out. Had to google him. . . Kudos on routinely inserting 2nd & even 3rd rung characters into the MiniMates line guys!
  22. Yeah - I've deliberately voted for characters i don't expect to be made. Multiple Man Stepford Cuckoos Lilandra Magik Polaris I wanted to pick figures that never saw release under Marvel Legends and to concentrate on characters that we are least likely to see. Multiple Man - The guy has been around since the forever. And he'd be a great toy to make for Hasbro as the average punter will buy 1 - and fan boys will want Multiples! Stepford Cuckoo's - We need more girls & again, fanboy's will be lining up to get 3 of the hot, blonde, brain benders! Lilandra - has NEVER had a figure despite being a recurring character since the Phoenix Saga. And with War of Kings on the horizon. . . It's Lilandra's time! Magik - Another character who's been with us since the New Mutants & a chick. More Chicks! I was torn between Polaris & Domino, but since Domino is featuring regularly in X-Force at the moment & will be a big hitter in Messiah War, as well as being Wolverines new bum-chum - I figure she's more likely to get released in the near future.
  23. *pant* *drool* were there any images (concept art or prototypes) accompanying the article?
  24. Thanx for your reply mate - i'm looking forward to the updates Keep up the great work. I'm a huge fan of your site.
