  1. Dino, thanks, but I don't think they are the same hairpiece, unless the artist took some real liberties with his art. Too bad, because that hairpiece looks almost perfect for a Susan Ivanova custom
  2. And the crowd goes....yawn! It's not even a tested property, and they're mostly boring civvies! I'm still down for a set for customs, but is this really going to sell well?? They should have gone after Archer minimates instead. This feels like the second coming of 24 mates. And those had name-brand recognition behind them!
  3. Wait, so that's 48 stands? Or are the 24 black sold seperately from the 24 clear? $4? HOT SEX!! Thing-pool! Dead-pocalypse! Dead-slaught! Armored Spider-pool! You forgot Swimming pool, and his socially awkward cousin, Pocket-pool!
  4. Turtle, I totally agree with you. It's just that Kirk & Spock are extremely strong sellers when it comes to Trek, and the old line reused them a lot (too much!). So while I really hope that doesn't continue (and so far doesn't seem to be), since I'd assume we'll get one LCS and one TRU TOS pack in each wave, we're bound to eventually get more Kirk's. So I hope they are at least visually different than what's come before. Honestly, Scotty seems to be the only TOS original minimate that goes for big bucks on Ebay, so I'd never complain about him being refreshed. But if DST never remakes Bones, Uhura, Chekov or Sulu in their standard Bridge uniforms, I won't complain, because they still exist and are obtainable. If instead we got Mirror Mirror Chekov, then he fills a gap, and you can always headswap or buy the original Bridge version. And really, I'd prefer to get new stuff like a Tholian Web Spacesuit than something still easily found on Ebay at reasonable prices. Same goes for Spock, but I'd assume we'll get him in his TOS Bridge uniform again simply because he's iconic and will sell well. Uhura, not quite a slam dunk, so if we only got one version I'd prefer her ST2 and above Red Movie Uniform - especially so I can customize Saavik(s) and Valeris. So yeah, IF the TOS packs become the Kirk & Spock show all over again, at least they're likely only going to be 1/4 of each wave. And I dream of a TOS Romulan & Scotty 2-pack, because the army-builder potential is HUGE (Red Shirt Scotty NEEDS to be packed with an army-builder figure, since people will still buy him in droves for Red Shirt QC's - this is why the original is so hard to find on Ebay) I really don't see Kirk & Spock taking up spots reserved for Data, Riker, Kira, etc. But when we do get them, I want them distinctive enough. It seems like a lot of Kirk's iconic looks are already being taken up by the Enterprise vehicle packs. So, given Zach's stated criteria for recognizable outfits, there isn't much left to choose from from the TV show
  5. What I do like about the Phonics-Killer armor is that it appears to be perfectly useable with any black-outfitted mate. Unlike the Phoenix-Killer, which needed the shiny red body. So that sweet X-Men DP will be displayed, and PK Armor will go to any one of my extras without being noticeable. So, Anyone buying an extra Venom TTA set to make a more fully-transformed Wolverine Venom can use another figure from that set to display their PK Armor. Zach - What color are the blank heads in the IM3 10-pack armors?
  6. This was the post I'm referring to. If DST has yet to be willing to make a slam-dunk 4-pack with Locutus and other crewmembers, I can understand their reluctance to make "Soup-Kitchen Kirk" And actually, I'm rather happy that at least they are being upfront about it, so I can plan ahead for my own customs. I'd still be down for any official releases, of course. I'd far rather get the Gangster Kirk & Spock, but DST's gotta do what DST's gotta do! As long as we get the main crews for TNG & DS9, I'm happy, and I'll take what I can get for VOY & ENT. DST has already shown us they're not afraid to revisit old designs, so I wouldn't complain if they improved the Gorn, but I hope to see more unmade designs first (TOS Romulan is at the top of my list, plus the Salt Vampire is up there too for TOS wants). After we get that, I'll be happy with whatever we get, and if this line really takes off, then when the major bases are covered, then I'll start lobbying for some character variants with poor Trek-recognition (I want everyone from Fistful of Datas, but they might not be a slamdunk in sales terms to the general public, but as toys they're great designs, and of course I want basic Worf & Data long before Wild West versions!) Sadly, with no Trek on first-run televisions (reruns only ), we are NOT in the Trek heydey we had when Playmates was making their 5" line.
  7. For those of you not wanting to open this 10-pack, wouldn't it go better opened with that Papercraft set?
  8. So much of Frank Miller (and Grant Morrison's) later work reeks of chemical impairment. They seem very inconsistent, and seem to suffer a flight of ideas, most of which are not adequately carried forward to the comic pages. They just don't convey their ideas as well as they used to, which really makes me think they are drunk or high while writing. Or too full of themselves and think that everything is flowing perfectly.
  9. Heh. You should see how many people bring their children to the West Hollywood Halloween Block Party! And there will always be a difference between watching and buying toys of cross-dressing characters. Only one Bugs Bunny from your picture has been made as a figure. As much as you & I and other's here won't get upset, there's still a chance of upset parents. I certainly don't want any bad publicity to affect Disney's relationship with DST! Maybe the real difference is this: compare Bugs' legs to DP's scarred hideous legs
  10. QC'ers take note - the new SDCC Farm Hershell is a great start to a City on the Edge of Forever Kirk! IIRC, Zach stated this likely wouldn't get made since they aren't very recognizable.
  11. The Hub disagrees. I think kids – especially fans of Deadpool – would love it, at least as much as fans of Alfred E. Newman love him as Wonder Woman. I think it's a certain segment of adult collectors you may be concerned about. Happy to know there will be clear stands instead of black ones. Now I just need a way to get them online. And there's no controversy there? I can totally understand not wanting to sell cross-dressing versions of popular characters to kids, because the parents are more likely to get pissed than the kids. Those people still do exist. And Alfred E Newman as Wonder Woman is still aimed at adult collectors. I'm okay without a DP as Jean Grey. I'd have bought him, but I won't lament his not existing either. But from a business perspective, I understand why he wasn't made.
  12. Buying "some" minimates we don't want has always been part of the game. It's always more palatable when they are army builders, like the dump cases were. And if this were a 4-pack, I wouldn't complain as much, just like when we got the repeated Avengers to get Kang and Grim Reaper. This really isn't "some", this is a lot. It's easier to part with $20 than it is with $55. If they were all new armors, except maybe 1-2 repeats, then I'd be all over this set (yes, even repaints on old molds). The fact that it didn't cross anyone's mind at DST that the long-term fans might not be happy is precisely why I feel the need to verbalize my feelings. For any new fans, this is indeed a "Hot Sex!" box set. I really, really hope it does well and more importantly brings new fans in. But really, are there boxed collectors only here? I understand a few sets being left in package when they're really well done. But Minimates just beg to be opened and played with / displayed! And again, all bets are off when you make a unique version of a character *that happens to be the best version made to date!* Pepper really looks fantastic.
  13. YB, where does that gif come from? Agreed, Thundercats is one of the best lines produced thus far. I'm not a fan, but I've snatched up every release so far! I was disappointed by the tampo issues with wave 1, but customer service came through for me. But the accessories, extra bits (mini pvc figure in each pack!!) and sculpted parts showcase what minimates can really accomplish! And it still blows my mind how every pack has a ton of new tooling in it! And I just love how eye-popping the colors are - it makes me want even more cartoon properties!
  14. Maybe it's because the best parts of her character don't transfer well to block figure format? And it's a 2 females pack, which might make TRU skittish? Honestly, Voyager has only a few interesting episodes, terrible alien designs, and had to steal it's best villains from TNG (Borg Queen & Q) I want a full crew but don't care for any designs past that, save maybe a few. Yeah, I still want this, and 2/case isn't good in my opinion. But Kirk will always outsell Voyager. (At 3/case, he already has to TRU)
  15. Is the girl's hairpiece a new sculpt?
  16. Wasn't the tread pretty much over after the first 3 pages when Zach said most of them had been guessed, then people still went in entirely different directions?
  17. Nice! I don't want to get my hopes up again, but it seems more likely that we will get MZ mates! I honestly don't care if they go "cannon" or not, just give us the Entire MU as zombies! And I'd be thrilled to see the originals redone. I imagine they can redo them much better these days.
  18. Despite my unhappiness, I hope this set brings more fans into the Minimates fold
  19. Regarding the stands, will they be hard plastic like the kind that comes with WD mates, or the soft rubbery kind that comes with Marvel? Phonics-Killer DP is okay as an original concept since there's an alt-build underneath, so it's more like bonus parts to me. I hope the final versions in that set have the same shade of red as the pics, because it looks really nice.
  20. I didn't think you were trying to gouge us, Zach. But it is your best Pepper to date. For the many completionists, this really sucks. 10 figures might have been a bit much. Again, great for newcomers, but unpleasant for those who have faithfully bought 8/10 of those figures already. I want Tony & especially Pepper, but I'm going to think about this before I decide. The price per mate is too high, the overall cost is high, and I've already got 80% of this set. I'm not paying $5.50 per mate for custom fodder, and I don't need more duplicates of IM armors. Tony's practically a headswap anyway. But, damn, that Pepper is nice!
  21. This would be SO much more bearable in a 4-pack! Having to buy 8 rereleases just for Tony & Pepper is insulting for $55. There. I said it. It's a great way for new fans to come on board and get their armors. But for the long-time collectors, this is a sharp stick in the eye!
  22. Thanks Dino! As for Neolego's statement "Digital everything is the future." - I loathe the sentiment! I like some things digital, but absolutely despise that content-providers are doing all they can to force us in that direction! I'm a firm believer in owning what I pay for, not having it be a "service", which can be revoked at any time for any reason! I positively dread the notion that "experts" are saying that Blu Ray is the final physical form of home release video, that the next platform will be all digital. I buy my movies / TV shows because I want to own them! To me, a lot of them don't justify their cost until I've watched them several times, and that can take years for some things. And I don't want to some day pay a fee for the things I watch constantly (or play for background noise). Nor do I want to be "locked in" to using a device or service to use what I've paid for. Besides, there are plenty of times I can't access Netflix at home, due to my end or Netflix's end of things, so it's great to just pop a disc in! Even though we're heading for greater market penetration of internet & digital availability, things still go down, even for maintainance. Digital is great, when used well. I love digital comics, but the thought of paper versions going away saddens me. It's nice to be able to carry around and read them digitally, especially older more valuable comics. But the digital comics market and the games & video markets are apples & oranges. I feel comics are going digital more to give customers what they want, as in there will still be paper versions as long as there are buyers. But it feels like games & video are actively pushing for digital distribution as a means of more control over content. And that is what I hate.
