  1. I think the biggest problem with the Destroyer is that he's just.... so grey. So very grey. If they darken him up, or use a metallic finish, I think he'll look much better. But he, the Frost Giant, Odin, and even Loki can easily fit in with non-movie Marvel Minimates, which is great. And Jane Foster's chest piece will make, I think, a nice custom base for LOEG's Mina Harkness. So big thumbs up from me. And I'm sure we'll be getting another 4-6 Thor 'mates via TRU... unless the other movies get in the way.
  2. Jeez! When did Rogue get such... distinguished assets? I guess she's not worried about accidental flesh-to-flesh contact these days....
  3. Luke also made a Mr. Miracle for me, which looks just like Rad's, but with a different cape. This one looks to be an M. Bison, if I'm not mistaken, and the one for mine looks to be a Dr. Doom cape with the hood spliced. Anyway, it's really, really nice, and I'm jonesing for a Big Barda to go with him, especially after seeing Robbie's great Barda design sheet. Jack Staff's amazing too!
  4. I'd say there's a difference between taking offense at the misuse of a religious term (although at this point Apocalypse has been pretty heavily co-opted by secular culture to mean a generic "end of the world") and finding the word Holocaust to be a bit offputting on a toy, because despite any previous uses it now overwhelmingly means a specific and horrible event in living memory. I'm not saying I'm offended, but I can see a solid argument to avoid that name. I wonder if Marvel got any kickback from his name originally. I don't know anything about the guy; has he appeared at all since the AoA series?
  5. Not for me. My answer is "no." Even if we had 10,000 red and blue Spideys, I would still want more before. . .whatever that is. Hideous. The Marcos Martin cover is beautiful, though, even if the armor is fugly. Still looks better then what the Blink, Morph, and Sabretooth Minimates are wearing.
  6. Yeah, I think this is a strategy to boost sales at comic book shops, and not a great one either. Remember that Diamond's sales figures aren't based on what we buy, but what comic book shops buy; therefore, a set that includes the big guns is much more likely to appeal to a guy placing orders, even if it's less likely to sell through to hardcore Minimate fans. As I've mentioned here in the past, my LCBS has stopped ordering every Minimate wave, picking and choosing which ones they think will sell through. I bet a lot of others are doing that as well, because, after 40 waves, most stores still have a good amount of backstock hanging around. Anyway, I'm betting that we are going to see the Iron Man and Spidey from the Heroic Age box set. Which is a total let-down, and is really a bait-and-switch move by DST if that's the case. Between this and those ugly minor X-characters at TRU, this is personally the worst cumulative set of Minimate reveals I can ever remember.
  7. QUOTE (Donny B @ Dec 13 2010, 09:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> For anyone who still want that Galactus, Amazon has dropped the price down to $19.99 Who knows how long that will last Wow. I wonder if they aren't selling. Personally, I like the ML BAF better, so I don't have much use for this.
  8. I dislike the X-Men in general, and this era in particular, so.... bah. Blink, Morph, and Sabretooth are all sporting some seriously fugly threads. I like how Iron Fist and Spider-Man are hanging out in the background, as if they're sheepish to be there. I'll probably get Omega Red, since BD Wolverine will make for decent fodder, but that's about it.
  9. I totally dropped the ball on getting my submission in. Maybe next time. I dunno what you're talking about, Bob; I thought all the stuff on the first day was very impressive. Much moreso then usual. I think the quality of entries has gone up since Fwoosh has been hosting Custom Con.
  10. Thanks for the photos, Max. I like how, in your photos of the Thors, the one on the left looks like he's trying to hold his hand. This is certainly a set I think I can live without.
  11. I don't know how the paint apps were, because I wasn't kidding when I said my wife wouldn't let me open it. Well, I dipped into the Christmas presents fund to pay for it, so I guess it's only fair. I think the QC on this line has gotten a lot better with the last few waves. I bought and opened an Amazo a month or two ago, and had forgotten just how fragile they seemed. Most of the QC issues I have now stem from the poses the figures are positioned in. One of the ones I bought recently- Kamandi I think- had his knee pretty badly bent, so much so that I had to adjust for that when posing him. I know it looks neat to put them in funky poses, but I wish Mattel would do a better job keeping these issues in mind. My other complaint about this wave is that Zatanna, though an exquisite figure, stands very poorly, and doesn't have holes on the bottom of her feet for a stand. Right now, mine's leaning against Aquaman, who will have some explaining to do if Mattel ever makes Mera. BTW, dunno if everyone saw, but packaged shots of the Bane wave are up at all the usual places. New package design that looks a lot like the 75th anniversary design. Bad news is that the pins are done. I'm gonna miss them.
  12. That's a really good idea executed wonderfully, made all the better by being able to actually being able to show it to the band. You've totally trumped the Minimate I've made my wife for Christmas!
  13. Thanks guys! Karamazov, if I remember correctly, you and I had the same basic idea to use the Spectre hood at about the same time (I even found your post in your old custom thread). Minifiend: As Karamazov said, it's a hood that covers his face, and the black part is just shading. The recent DCUC Hourman figure actually doesn't include the shading, which is a shame, IMHO. If you check out my blog post I talk about it a little bit more, but basically I was inspired by the DC Direct Pocket Superheroes figure in making him. Probably the absolute best way to make him is to sculpt a bit onto the hood, but I think this is an acceptable substitute.
  14. Here's a few JSA guys: Hourman: Green Lantern: For a full description, including formulas, check out the full post at my blog: http://dinosaursinf14s.blogspot.com/2010/1...-and-green.html
  15. Very nice Hellcat. I actually just started putting her together last night (the AoA Rogue has a yellow chest piece that was made for Hellcat), so it's nice to get some ideas. I was planning on just using a Batgirl mask, at least temporarily, but I like what you did with the FA Marvel Girl mask.
  16. Hmmm... if we're getting the Goblin Glider, I wonder if we might get a set based on this cover: I could live with that.
  17. So I bought an Hourman off eBay for a good price... but my wife won't let me open it until Christmas.
  18. Always gonna be new collectors so they may not know the question has been asked before. Thats they way I see it anyway. If it turns out to be a long fan of minimates then they should know the info and should be shot for asking it. I've long wondered why AA doesn't just put an FAQ up that would cover... well, their frequently asked questions. It's right there in the name.
  19. I do think it's nice to see some modern stuff mixed in once in a while, though I wouldn't have chosen this particular set. I mean, it's not like this book is such an amazing seller that Minimates from it are a must. Why X-Force and not, say, X-Factor? That said, this is a really weak offering. Wolverine is awful; does he remind anyone else of this?
  20. Man, I'm really torn. Thor is nice, but the others are pretty useless. But I also think it's pretty important to support this set so that the Disney Store carries more Minimates. I was willing to spend fifteen bucks on a one-'mate set and take one for the team, but twenty? That's harsh. Especially because you know that these will eventually hit their clearance section. Maybe after the holidays....
  21. That's about the only Spidey variation I can see myself getting excited for.
  22. I made a similar Cyclops, using the AoA body as a base. The only difference is that it doesn't have the yellow paint at the top of his legs for the trunks. It always bugged me that Cyclops had painted-on buccaneer boots. Phoenix looks nice, if a little comics-inaccurate. She never looked that happy in the Dark Phoenix getup!
  23. Hey, we had the same idea for OMAC! I know that mine came from seeing the DCUC OMAC figure, and thinking, "I can do that". Used the same head and hair too. I'll have to post pictures in my thread.
  24. I mentioned this a couple pages back on this thread, but anyone looking for the Thanos wave should try the Disney Store. I found the whole wave there, and it's the only place I've ever seen them. I'm sure Target will get them in in three months when we're all looking for something else, because that's how Target rolls.
  25. Your activities are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Yeah, I was wondering about this as well. What exactly is the "normal wear and tear" you put a Minimate through that causes a Minimate's face to wear off in hours? Ivan, I've been LOLing for hours. Hellpop, the first day that I had him, I put him in my pocket. While a friend was driving to the mall, I pulled him out and was playing with him, posing and making him bald, during that time I thought I noticed a bit of his eyebrow had gone missing. I wiped his face with my thumb thinking it may have been a piece of dust or something and discovered that the paint application was actual rubbing off. Hours later, and he had been in a pocket, his mouth was gone and most of his right eye. I don't think I've ever had a face wear off like that. But, then again, I keep mine in a series of safety deposit boxes scattered throughout the Northeast, so they don't get handled that much.
