  1. that's hilarious! What is it, Terror Dog with some add ons? It's very fun and amazingly well done! (if his head can be removed you NEED to take a picture of him with Agent Zero's head, like he's taking a break on set!) also... I don't know how you'd do it, but: King Ghidorah! Make King Ghidorah!
  2. put him in a 2-pack with Conan O'Brien! Get on it TBS, generate some cross promotional synergy for your up coming Late Night Line Up!
  3. S.P.H.E.R.O. is just too amazing for words, the color choices, the parts used, the accessories... I feel like it should melt my face like the Arc of the Covenant with how much sheer coolness is gathering there.
  4. ... and which Boarders might this be that's putting them out in a day or two?
  5. It's been raining like crazy here for the past few days, but today we had a very nice sunny day so I was able to spray coat my charity mate! He (she? it?) still needs some detail paint, but I'm so happy I got to spray him finally I'm posting a WIP shot: Stand-up Comedian Gorn and Catwoman shown for scale.
  6. I'm hoping this turns out to be a "good call" and not poor planning, because with 3 versions of Creature and Wolfman (there's a tank top and dress shirt version of Lon in his box set, and both monsters are getting TRU B&W variants) the lines starting off with a lot of variant fatigue already with what aren't really their biggest hitters to begin with. Does the causal consumer: -want the civilians? (I'll admit, while I've seen a lot of the Universal Monster films, I don't remember who any of the humans are) want the second variant that comes with the iconic version? -fell like spending $13 for the colored iconic variant is a good deal? -actually want a B&W variant? want it in addition to the colored iconic version? While I'm sure these will sell, I'm just getting the feeling everything they should have learned from Ghostbusters and Rocky was not applied here, with Ghostbusters they got the big wants out of the way and then went back to the well for variants (could you imagine how badly the line would have done if it went "this year: Ray 4-pack and Winston 4-pack! Next Year: Egon 4-pack and Slimer 4-pack! Two years from now: Peter 4-pack!") and the TRU 2-packs made sure casual buyers had access to the iconic versions (ok, you *could* argue the B&W are the iconic versions, but colors going to appeal to more people) and when asked about crazy variants they want to 'take it slow' and not over stays the lines welcome... where as with Rocky, they're going to do EVERY movie as it's own set with it's own 2-packs! and because of this we NEVER got the most iconic sets (whenever I see a Rocky homage/parody he's always fighting Clubber Lang, because America LOVES Mr.T or Draco, or at the very least his opponent says "I will break you!" because America HATES commies!)... Now I will throw in the admission here that Mattel's Ghostbuster line uses the exact opposite strategy of the minimates (non-slimed Peter and Egon 'coming at a too be determined time', Walter Peck coming before Peter, HUGE gaps in product, generally doing what MattyCollector does best) and BttF used the EXACT SAME strategy as Rocky and sold like gangbusters (which sold like ghostbusters! at least the first 2 TRU waves anyway) so it clearly depends on the license... maybe Universal Monsters will be like BttF and yearly box sets WILL become an anticipated yearly tradition, but there's an equally likely chance (because if Universal Monsters was THAT hot a property, wouldn't Hasbro or Mattel or maybe even NECA be grabbing at it? not Jazzware, random seasonal nicknack producers, and 'random start up company' who seem to be the only ones in the Universal Monster game at the TRU level) Dracula will be the Rocky 3 of this series. TL,DR: Potential variant overload out the gates with the big guns a year or two away from being released doesn't sound like a great plan and could very well kill teh lien before it starts.
  7. I *HATE* the idea of a Wonder-Con exclusive, I'm deathly afraid this is the final step to turning Wonder Con to "SDCC NORTH!" like they've been planning for years with the ungodly crowds and more focus on exclusive toys and blockbuster movies on the show floor then artist and books. and just to be the crazy alarmist... just wait, once this works everyone will have WonderCon exclusive figures, Mattel and Hasbro's presence will go from zero to HEY! We have TWO GIANT BOOTHS! and it's only a matter of time until the two most frustrating SDCC09 exclusives become a cheerful memory of how things used to be with: -GRAPHITTI DESIGNS LANTERN WORLD TOUR: Get Red Lantern Mera at Wonder Con!, Get Yellow Lantern Scarecrow at C2E2!, Get Indigo-Atom at NYCC!, and of course get Orange Lantern Lex Luthor OR "Crazy rainbow spectrum Superman" at SDCC!! -Matty Collectors Plastic Man Bonus Parts: Each Con gets a different polly-bagged accessory! Wonder Con gets a full sized Glider form! C2E2 gets two giant bendy arms! NYCC gets a bendy stand to look like he's a snake! and SDCC gets a rubber ball with his face printed on it! MattyCollector.com orders get shafted! (this decision will then be defended in their Q&A with a response like "we at Mattel know several collectors attend multiple cons and simply want to reward them for doing so, if the accessory you want is not available at the con you planned to attend perhaps you can trade with another Matty fan on our forum! As to why SDCC gets a cheap ball and other cons got much larger more details contructs it was simply cheaper given the number of attendees to make a simple ball then another bendy clip-on or fullsized vehicle form, our options where 'rubber ball' or drop the 'each con gets a unique accessory' plan altogether!")
  8. awesome, finally my love of cheap robot toys will do some good.
  9. I have an idea for a robot I want to make sure is "minimate style" before I make it: If I take some Dollar Store robot pieces and assemble them so it goes: -minimate head -non-minimate robot body -minimate arms -non-minimate robot hands -minimate hips sunk into non-mate robot torso -minimate legs -non-minimate robot feet is that a 'minimate robot' it'd be about as detailed as the Iron Monger or Crocodile Battle Beast, but does the use of non-minimate pieces invalidate it as being a true 'mate?
  10. you know, replace Blanka with Guile or better yet Dan and you could pretend it was an "MvC2" set (Blanka of course was never playable in any Marvel Vs games, nor was Talbain the other SF 2 wave 2 character missing from your suggestion, but Guile made his triumphant return to 2D in MvC2 where as Dan is just badass) making it make perfect sense under the Marvel banner... man, I just realized for as popular as Street Fighter is it sure is a doomed action figure lincense. Resaurus went under, Palisades had the line for like a month never released anything and then went under, the minimates failed, SOTA did will changed management then tanked the line, and NECA seems to have given up already... whatever company is looking at rights for Super SF 4 better just walk away now or they're gonna end up either breaking hearts or going under. ...on topic however I'm going to say Wrecking Crew! I know nothing of them, but they look neat (and if I'm not mistaken the only new sculpting you'd need is a prybar and Bulldozer's leg bands and maybe torso/helment if you're not willing to take the big chest/sliponmask deco route making it a cool looking set that's economical!)and I don't want to get beat up for supporting the SF2 set.
  11. Love all of 'em! I especially like Two-Face though, I've had Absorbing Man's head on a Tony Stark body for ages now thinking "this could be a good Dark Knightish Two-Face..." now that KNOW it's a good Dark Knight-ish maybe I'll finish him!
  12. Here's how I made some stands for my minimates: Circle Bases: What you'll need: -Easy Mode: -1/2in Circle Rounds (obtained at your local Tap Plastic) -Hot Glue -a bowl of icy water -Normal Mode: -1/2in Circle Rounds -A Lego plate (I used blue because for some reason it's $2 cheaper then green at TRU) -a SHARP exacto (dull blades are dangerous!) -a cutting mat and your parent's permission to use a blade -your favorite insane glue -a spray paint of your choice (I'm partial to matte black or primer, but you could use white or seafoam or safety pink depending on what works for you!) -Hard Mode: -everything from Normal Mode -your favorite pourable latex -your favorite pourable rein -hot glue -MORE Legos -A disposable cookie sheet from your favorite 99 cents/Dollar storea Okay, got your supplies? Great! Let's get started. For easy mode, take the minimates you want to stand on the stands and drop them (or at least one of their feet) into the icy water and let them rest while the glue gun heats up, KEEP THE CIRCLE ROUNDS DRY. When the glue gun is searingly hot remove the icy C3-feet from the water DO NOT DRY and apply the glue directly too the peg-hole then slam them down onto the circle round (aim for the outer edge rather then the direct middle) hold together for 10 seconds then throw it back into the icy water. When you're done you should be able pop the feet off (the icy chill sets the glue instantly preventing it from bounding with the plastic) without it coming off the circle (if it does, just crazy glue it down) Repeat as necessary. For those of who want a more uniform base, take a Lego base plate and cut it into as many 1x square pieces as you want. (the nice thing about a Lego base plate as opposed to a 1x Lego Square is it's flat, there's no rim under it for another piece to snap into so it's less trimming to get to lay on the base) Glue these 1x squares onto the Circle Rounds where you see fit. Now if having a clear round with a green/blue/yellow/grey peg bothers you wait until it stops raining, and take a spray paint of your choice and give it a nice good dusting. Now if you want stands on a mass scale but would rather spend a little time then a lot of money: CASTING! Make up a couple stands using Lego pieces (I made two, one with 1 peg, one with 2) then using more legos (or the remains of your shattered Batcave, thanks faulty second floor!) build a little nest, place them on the cookie sheet and secure both nest and desk down with hot glue. Pour your favorite molding latex over the stands and let it set. Repeat this step until you have as many molds as you see fit, go ahead I'll wait.... okay now mix up a batch of your favorite pouring resin (I use EasyCast Clear) and pour away, let it set and repeat. This is a more economical way to go since after figuring in the cost of supplies ($30 for the latex, $40 for the resin if you buy the medium size) this makes your first batch of 400 stands 15 cents a piece (your next since you'd only be buying resin is 10 cents a piece) where as the 1/2in circle rounds cost 45 cents as is (plus all that lego chopping... you could loose a finger!) I can provide photos of these things later as well as a reciepe for a stronger flight stand that can hold a heavy 2.5inch mate where the factory stands can't.
  13. I couple more odds and ends: You wouldn't like him when he's Ang Lee Movie Bruce Banner puts on a lab coat and gets to hang with the comic Defenders. Lawyering She-Hulk is made up of: BSG President suit, Hulk legs (boots painted on) and hands, Scaar hair, and the SI boxset female skrull face with the skrull lines removed (I made a decal, I tried just scrapping the lines off which was... okay... but I thought a decal would just be cleaner) Her green matches better in person, this is just a bad photo (and I'm okay with that) I wish this guy had a catchpharse I could use here... Two Riddlers each a like in dignity... well not really. I really wanted a suit Riddler, so Bucky put on Patch's suit and took C3 Riddler's cane and hat and got repainted nice and pretty. C3 Riddler just sat there striped and saddened by this so he got Eddy Brock's hair and non-C3 Magneto feet (didn't feel like painting him purple C3 feet) to become Jim Carrey! Who I think did a fine job playing a campy Riddler, I just wish it existed in better context. Doctor WHOM?! This is pretty stolen from Buttheadsmate in the Dr.Who Minimate thread, except I used different hair and made a decal for his chest (scanned the back of his coat and used it to texture a Professor X suit template from the minimate factory) and his face (traced from the official character sheet) For hands he gets a Few Dollars More stop watch and a BSG key-thing to be his screwdriver, for feet he stole Marty's shoes (which has to AKWARD! since he's sitting next to Doc and Marty right now on my shelf) I sure make a lot of 'the Batman' based customs for not liking 'the Batman' Penguin repaint... also two HELLA old customs, the Kabuki Twins from 'the Batman', I liked the idea of the Kabuki Twins (the Penguin needs bodyguards but has to look legit, two pretty masked geishas just make him look like he has a weird asian and mask fetish rather then sinister as two burly men with guns and penguin themed jumpsuits would make him look) I didn't really like them on the show though (were they humans? they seemed too weird to be human but it was never really explained in any episode I saw) I still hope someone brings them to the mainstream comics a la Harley Quinn and makes them into something awesome. Balloony?! Wha... His name is Collin! Phineas and Ferb references aside, it's my attempt at a movie-ish looking Bulleye. It's not close, but eh, I'm fine with that... Leggy I'm putting these two together since it's pretty much the same mode: minor repainting with a leg switch to make them completely flesh tone. Also Power Girl has Bucky's boots. Now this is just stupid... Long of the short of it: My favorite parts of Spider-man 3 (a movie, which while crappy, I liked) was when Venom unmasked and Topher Grace was taunting Spider-man. Seeing Eric Foreman's nerdy head sticking out of a giant foam muscle suit just made me giggle, and not in the intentional way so I wanted a minimate to remind me of that, the 'small Venom' behind him is what you get from left over Spider-man and Venom parts. (also, I wish they hadn't wasted Topher as Venom, should have saved him to be Peter when Toby quit guys!) well I'm done for now... but since no minimate series is complete without Wolverine. Have some Wolveirnes!
  14. If anyone wants pictures here ya go: Wolvie and Cap: I'm not taking Cap out of the package because in all truth, I'm VERY disappointed with this set. Cap's mask doesn't line up with eyes, Wolverine is poorly done (and I was one of the few LOOKING FORWARD to BD Wolverine) Me no likey. Battle Damage: Wolverine: Blue belt or Red belt? NEITHER! and there's Reed's Feets. World War Hulk: Hulk's pretty cool. He has a raiser and duck feet. The "knee high sandles" are sculpted on NOT paint like Hercules (I'm sure someone will steal Hulk's to improve their Herc) But anyone wanting to use his armor for a custom may want to see this: the skirt, torso, and shoulder guard are all one big piece. But you CAN display him the following ways: small feet + raiser, no raiser + small feet, duck feet + no raiser (my personal favorite) Insert: He has sword. Bonus: You can throw some random pieces together and get this!
  15. did I find these first? (that can't be possible) These are out now: 4x Thor/Loki 4x Cap/Wolverine 2x Mr.F/WWHulk 2x Storm/Claw I picked up Cap/Wolvie and Hulk/Fantastic. Haven't opened them yet (although Mr.F'd mysterious blue piece looks like HUGE torso piece)
  16. I like all 3 but Brute's my favorite, the 'tarnished metal' armor works really well (must... copy... paint... scheme)
  17. I just finished watching GB2 on Netflix's insta-streaming and I just wanted to bring up how perfect "Courtroom Egon" is. I always liked the "Doe.... Ray.... EGON!" scene as kid and his expression is absolutely spot, same wrinkles and everything, it's as if they just traced a screen capture (and maybe they did) World of Psychic Peter's jacket is the wrong color, but I do give the minimate credit for holding the cat pretty much the same way (just 'pick up like a sack') ... When/If we get another wave or 5th Box set, I wouldn't mind Peter in red/grey shirt from when Dana comes over after slime-tub attack (it's a rather nice look for a civilian Pete) and that horrible-gave-me-nightmares-as-a-child Mink Coat ghost, given how much new sculpting Wave 3 had there's no reason we shouldn't get it on the lady or at the very least as a cool accessory crawling away. Also, I hope Slime-pack Ray has enough space between his Slime-Pack and body that the Demon-Vigo mask can slip over his body, it doesn't fit with the Proton Pack.
  18. it's like the old saying goes "a pirate's ideal women has a large treasure chest and plenty of pirate booty... and maybe a locked crate with something valuable in it"
  19. I bet these don't hit until March 1st (or whenever the Iron Man 2 merchandise is supposed to go out) like all the sets have a dated release as a fail safe so no one puts out a case of Iron Man 2 minimates to replenish a shelf of Ghostbusters wave 3 or Marvel wave 6 so Marvel Studios doesn't get all uppity The 'black out Iron man we're not allowed to see even though he's on the box art' is revealed before he's supposed to.
  20. but those are the fun things on that image, calling the hip a "j-pop" and the foot a "d-cup" and what look like half-jokes like "I-Bone" and calling the hip "B-Nut" and weird sorta words like "H-Tube" (which looks like it's supposed to be "Hot Tub") and "T-Bolt" (for Thunderbolt?) I suggest the following names for minimate anatomy: -U-Can (Head) attaches via Peg-E (neck peg) to: -C-Block (Torso) which on either side via Peg-L (shoulder peg) attaches to: -I-Hop (upper arm) which is fastened via H-Rod (elbow pin) to: -I-Pod (lower arm) which has a P-Hole (hand slot) you can attach an: -I-Cup (hand) The bottom of the C-Block has the: -A-Hole (torso hole) for the: -S-Pin (Hip peg) which attaches the P-Nut (hips) to the figure -P-Nut has two S-Balls (leg pegs) on either side which hook onto: -J-RPG (upper leg) which via A-Rod (knee pin) fastens to: -J-FK (lower leg) which via the B-Hole (foot slot) you can attach -J-Rock (foot) .... seriously, do Stikfa people really say stuff like "I used a Female Knight Beta's T-Bolt, the I-Bones from a Xevoz Ape Shaman, and the J-Pops off an Alpha male Dragon Rider to make this custom" or "shoot my Omega Blank Red's H-Tube was missing, anyone got a spare?" is that just for show on the poster so they could label each piece and sound fancy rather then say "Upper arm!" "Lower arm!" since I can't imagine people actually using complex naming systems when the obvious works just as well
  21. Got my Battle Cat. (I don't have a He-Man though, Xetheus from the Seventh Kingdom gets to ride him) Now to wait for Mo-Lar and to decide if I want Yellow Evil-Lyn or hold out for the eventual 'Bonus Figure' flesh color repaint because I'm a tool who even though he watched the crap out of MotU as a child only has interest in what characters are featured on Robot Chicken (I almost bought Faker until I realized since he's not made of bendy rubber and the figures are so bulky he probably couldn't actually be posed in a crazy dance like in the sketch.)
  22. Wrong! I'm weird about names, because I talk to so many people used to American SF I call the Street Fighters by their American names (although I prefer the Japanese ones) but since people who like Darkstalkers prefer the Japanese names I pretty much only go by their Japanese names (I'm not even entirely sure what Aulbath, Lei-Lei, and Phobeus' English names are) but I'll use Japanese names for this because you did so I don't have to keep doing the "Balrog(Claw)" thing: What's there of M.Bison (the M stands for "Mike" in Japan rather then "Master", "Major", "Mister" whatever BS they make up for the US translations) is excellent, I love the bug eyes AND you wrote 'Bison' on his shorts! (I hate how they remove that in the US version of the art and don't write "Balrog" on or something, it's the same amount of letters!). Vega looks like his CvS sprite, a nicely updated version of his 'skinny' form. Nice work on Balrog's tattoo and Claw (is it a straight Wolverine claw repaint or is it a separate raised piece?)
  23. Well in all seriousness my then 2-year-old nephew told me to vote for "O-BA-MA!" (you can take that as a "See! kids are politically smarter then some adults!" or "Oh well!I guess kids are politically stupid like most adults" depending on your view point.) and I did... so there. (I might not listen again in 2012 though... I don't like the controversial "Dinosaur Train" stance he's taken in recent months. In America it's Dinosaurs OR Trains! Not both, this ain't Stalingrad, buddy!)
  24. I've actually been wondering... how out of context is that "Your vagina is haunted!" quote. I mean, I know we *know* the context in terms of the storyline presented... I mean in terms of the books actual tone and theme. Like is Tarot supposed to be "super dark and edgy we're totes serious about this stuff!!!" or is it "B-horror: breast, blood, and bizarre humor"? If it's super edgy serious then the haunted vagina line SHOULD be made fun of, it makes no sense. However if it's AWARE it's a stupid line, if Skeleton Man is supposed to be a poor hero or something and would blurt out something that sounds crazy and inappropriate and it was written to be funny in context, it needs to be dropped because anyone making fun of it doesn't get the joke. Like I don't think most people have a problem with Buffy and that show tries to be funny horror, so I searched "funny buffy quotes" and found this: I personally don't like Buffy, but I'm sure someone who does can explain to me WHY this is funny and not the stupidest thing I've ever heard. (Like I'm sure it's some lame joke about how Wiccans use pine trees in real life for ceremonies, so what if in a pinch Willow used a pine tree.... car freshener! ZOMG! So funny and modern!) If Buffy was a random comic getting minimates maybe we'd all be making "Will these be the first fresh pine scented minimates?!" Maybe Tarot is like All Star Batman and Robin, if you listen to the internet comedy reviews and judge based on its cover it's horrible and full of quotable lines that out of context make the book sound horrible, but if you read it it's a more lighthearted take on 'Dark and Serious', like Buffy supposedly is, where those horrible quotes framed in the context of "It's supposed to sound stupid" or "they make fun of that line later, it's intentionally bad" it's awesome.
