  1. I don't recall ANYONE saying they WANTED Peter Pan. (I may have overlooked a post.) Personally I'm just putting together all the evidence and that's where it points. Zach said it's either Disney or WB. DST has done exclusive boxed sets for The Disney Store in the past, which would explain the unsolicited release. DST also has pre-existing tooling to allow for a reduced investment specifically in the Peter Pan property (from Tinker Bell's wings to, more importantly, Hook's pirate ship The Jolly Roger). Add to that the fact that Peter Pan gets reissued on BluRay next month and you've got an event tie-in. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see anything from WB's stable that fits as well. And as has been said, it's what Zach isn't saying that's the most telling. I'll be happy to take you up on that generous offer! It's Peter Pan. And whether existing collectors WANT it or not, hopefully it will be a good brand extension, one that doesn't completely alienate us but still manages to Hook new addicts.
  2. Random thoughts: - I'm not quitting collecting Minimates altogether either, just frustrated that it's so difficult to start collecting The Walking Dead line right out of the gate. - If DST was my toy company and Disney tried to buy it (instead of Hasbro, for example), I'd be flattered and shocked. - I totally believe in fairies. - Happy New Year!
  3. Yeah, back in MY day, Walmart was the "low-price leader." I wonder if they'll price match online. Good for DST, though. Walmart does order in HUGE quantities for brick & mortar stores. Maybe this will lead to another venue for Minimates. That said, Walmart loves its exclusives...
  4. Peter Pan would be a great litmus test for a Disney/DST partnership. If the Minimates sell well enough for this property, imagine how they might sell for a property like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger, or Tron. Think about going to the Disney Parks and seeing sets based on The Haunted Mansion or Star Tours or the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, sets available online just like other "Park Exclusives." Peter Pan would just be the tip of the iceberg for opportunities that wouldn't require DST to acquire a license. Disney would pay DST to design and manufacture Minimates based upon their ever-growing stable of characters, from Disney and Pixar to Lucasfilm and The Muppets. They've already proven themselves with Marvel. And given the exclusive market, DST wouldn't be stepping on the toes of Hasbro or Mattel or any other mass market Disney licensee. There's a lot of potential here. Like Peter said, "All it takes is faith and trust."
  5. And there's the problem right there! DST makes 'mates SO cool that even if I have no interest in the property, I end up picking up most of the line anyway! I've never played HALO. I don't even own an Xbox! But do I have a box of HALO Minimates and Warthogs? Of course! And it's because DST and Art Asylum make cool toys! So screw you plastic crack peddlers! If you cared about addicts you'd start making crappier product! You wouldn't be going above and beyond with toys like Series 48! Now... when do we get to see pictures of the Peter Pan Minimates?
  6. Considering Peter Pan is due to be re-released on home video on February 5th, I think Minimates would be a great promotional tie-in.
  7. That gives me a little bit of hope that lingering cases of Series 1 will still hit with Series 2. And yeah, I kind of wish there was a Minimates endcap at TRU. I know DST would prefer them to be strewn throughout the store for maximum coverage but I never know where to look for these things. Does TRU use planograms anymore?
  8. Yeah, it was mentioned a page ago. Try popping it into boiling water for a minute. That might get the plastic to remember it's proper shape. I just got these sets for Christmas (thanks to Luke!) and it's so cool being able to assemble a complete team in two boxed sets in such a short pan of time. Love the figures and the accessories.
  9. Has anyone else had one of these messages pop up while browsing TRU.com? Because I'm about to take full advantage of it.
  10. I believe Zach did cryptically say they're working on releasing another pirate ship soon... Peter, Wendy, John, and Michael in one set. Tinker Bell, Tiger Lily and a couple Lost Boys in the other. Captain Hook and Smee with the ship. That had crossed my mind as well. Actually Tinker Bell could have her own set or two given how many pixies Disney has introduced over the last few years.
  11. Agreed wholeheartedly. If TRU doesn't know this is an ongoing problem, then there's nothing to fix as far as they're concerned. If it were me, I'd at least take it back to my nearest brick & mortar store for a refund and they could stock the shelves with returns. Start here.
  12. My first thought was that it's a Disney Store exclusive given the release. Disney Princess Minimates would make my daughters' heads explode. As I've said before, the next level for 'mates could be aiming them at the Polly Pocket crowd. LEGO and Mega Bloks are already jumping on that minifig bandwagon. Why not DST? But the movies featuring the Disney Princesses don't all fall within the 1928 - 1969 time frame so that's out. Besides, any one of the Princess properties could fill a 4-pack or two. I'm leaning toward Cinderella. It's one of THE signature Disney properties and wouldn't require any licensing fees. Set 1 could be Peasant Cinderella with her stepmother and stepsisters while Set 2 could be Ball Gown Cinderella with Prince Charming, Fairy Godmother, and maybe the King. The obvious vehicle would be the Pumpkin Coach which could include a coachman and/or footman. (And yes, Cindy's gown and the coach would TOTALLY glow in the dark.) Or it's Peter Pan and a pirate ship.
  13. Damn. I was planning on getting only one set of this series. Now I'm tempted to get two just for all the alternate variations that are possible. Nice work, DST!
  14. I've got sooooo many FF 'mates as it is and I still can't wait to add this wave to my collection. I just hope the TRU sets aren't Too Wickedly Difficult to come by.
  15. But I'm not just talking about the exclusives, I'm talking about the others as well. I think I've seen one set (the Series 1 walker 2-pack) at two different TRU stores. I don't know if this property has suddenly become wildly popular or if collectors are hoarding them for other collectors or if speculators are snatching them up. Maybe it's all of the above but no other line – from Star Trek and Marvel to HALO and Universal Monsters – has been so elusive at retail. I'm not in it for the "thrill of the hunt," believe me. One of the reasons I've enjoyed collecting Minimates is because they were pretty much hassle-free. Even the convention exclusives ended up online in decent enough quantities. I've never had trouble with exclusives. I like that exclusives give us characters that otherwise would not have been offered. That said, I have trouble understanding why Shane and Glenn fell into that category this time. I mean, holy Hulkbuster Armor, Batman. "Exclusive" doesn't have to mean "short-packed." As for the community here, I'm glad others have had luck filling holes in their collections thanks to the generosity of strangers. I haven't been so lucky and quite frankly I've gotten burned here. I'd rather do business with TRU.com but after reading the comments here, apparently even that's a crapshoot. Sorry to come off as a bitchy, entitled consumer. I know I'm just one collector and in the grand scheme I mean absolutely zero. I'm just venting in the hopes that things will change for the better when DST gets the DC Comics license. (Because if you think I'm being cranky now...)
  16. I've been looking forward to collecting this line since it was announced. Usually, when a line becomes more frustrating than fun to collect, I dump it. This line started at that point. I've managed to track down Series 1 and the Amazon 4-pack but I've opened neither since it's starting to look like I'll be getting rid of them soon. Patience has usually paid off for me but not with the Glenn and Shane TRU sets. I don't know why they were short-packed or why this block figure line is suddenly so popular but when a long-time collector like myself can't manage to get his hands on two key characters right off the bat, something's wrong. I just hope that whoever got them in my stead buys the entire line because that's what I would have done. Hopefully we'll get a line based on the TV series and I'll get a second shot at collecting a complete line at a reasonable price. Sorry for the rant. Good hunting.
  17. (Good idea for a thread, in my opinion.) Obviously the new license is Star Wars. With Lucasfilm being acquired by Disney and Disney being the parent company of Marvel, it stands to reason that the Mouse House wants to start getting a return on that $4 billion investment by finally allowing Minimates from a galaxy far, far away. Or it's DC Comics. Or maybe Invincible.
  18. I'd go with Sturgess over Levi if only because I'm tired of all the in-breeding while casting characters for this genre. Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Halle Berry, Ray Stevenson... there's a surprisingly long list of actors who've played more than one comic book character. I can't imagine there's a shortage of qualified performers, just an overabundance of lazy casting directors.
  19. Random thoughts: - The Spider-Man thing reminds me an awful lot of a famous Star Trek movie plot device. - Any big change like this ends up being undone when the new regime decides to hit the reset button. - Batman and Robin was little more than an expensive toy commercial and therefore deserves Minimates.
  20. With 1,195 Minimates in my current collection (yeah, I just got done counting them all) I'll take a few dozen bases. Standing, flying, prancing, whatever. Just offer them already!
  21. A general comic category would also be a good place for the Femme Fatales characters like Lady Death and Darkchylde.
  22. We sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus as part of our celebration but we've never gotten around to a cake. (That's a LOT of candles.) Merry Christmas to my fellow plastic crack addicts. Have a safe and festive season.
  23. Batman has a long, proud history with bombs: Okay, maybe not proud...
  24. Some think that he sounds suspiciously like a Picard. After Nemesis, I hope they don't go down that road. He certainly might have ties to Khan but I'll be surprised if he's actually playing Khan. I'm all for new characters. Just because it's a new timeline doesn't mean it has to be a complete retread. In other news, Zachary Quinto was on Conan recently. Check out the silliness.
