  1. Thanks to recent rumors, I may be passing on this entire wave. To be honest, I wasn't completely sold on it in the first place. I may still pick up Spidey and Iron Man but the rest are looking more like flashes in the pan.
  2. I want a carrying case shaped like the Sulaco. A remote-control Lost in Space Chariot would be awesome, too. Gotta have something to chase the cats with.
  3. I'd have been okay with pairing different Borg drones with characters other than Picard. I sure don't want Picard – or any other character – to be the next Kirk in terms of dominating assortments to the point where fans get the impression it's a TNG-only line. The trick is to convince retailers that there's just as much demand for Worf or Wesley as there is Picard.
  4. They work especially great IF you've got spare dividers laying about. Unfortunately the boxes only come with 24 even though there are enough slots for 46. It's probably easy enough to make your own out of stiff cardboard, I suppose. That said, recent pictures I've seen of these tackle boxes suggest that Plano has altered them so they only have the capacity for 24 compartments. That sucks because the majority of my 'mates manage to fit into the smallest compartments. Characters with bulky armor or capes tend to need a double-sized compartment. Then there are ones like Reed Richards or Galactus who require an even bigger space due to accessories or excessively pointy hats. Either way these boxes seem to be a better value than DST's collector's cases. They're less expensive, feature adjustable compartments, and you can see what's in them without opening them. They just don't come with an exclusive Minimate. None of mine are on display. They go from their little plastic jails right into their prison cell blocks after a quick inspection. I'm a bad person, too.
  5. I started buying the Plano 2-3700 tackle boxes for my Star Wars figures a while back. I only used nine of the 24 dividers and always had plenty left over to create storage for my Minimates. I love 'em:

  7. Given the reluctance to offer such figures, I doubt it will happen. I'd love to have a rotocast Galactus or Sentinel Minimate that towers over all others. The upcoming Days of Future Past film promises Sentinels and would be the perfect opportunity to offer larger pieces to build a figure by collecting the whole series. Unfortunately the current contract with Marvel may still not allow it, not that DST is willing to push the issue. I'd love to have vehicles like the Fantasticar as well but that's also not part of the current Marvel agreement. Not sure how well a Minimate-scaled statue would do though. Hard to believe that a Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man bank would sell better than one based on Sentinels in an X-Men movie year.
  8. I already suggested that DST offer a carrying case that looks like the front of a barn but if you wanted to offer a "Farm Surprise" first, that'd be cool.
  9. Raimi's more comfortable with old-school characters. I'm not a fan of Venom either but I think he deserved to be the only villain as well as have a director who actually wanted him in the flick. Sandman is one of those characters that can't really hold his own as a main antagonist. While he was easily my favorite part of the film, I'd sooner see villains like him featured in a pre-credits tussle that opens the film with a bang, much like Bond films.
  10. I thought the theatrical release was okay but the director's cut is largely considered to be superior. Can't help wondering if the film would have done better had it not been released on Valentine's Day. (Same with Wolfman. What was marketing thinking? These are romantic date movies?) I'm just glad that Marvel Studios has the property back and am eager to see what they do with it. I'd love to see a live-action TV series, especially one that occasionally crosses paths with Joss Whedon's SHIELD.
  11. Just leave an empty stand in your display where your Invisible Man should be. Done. Next.
  12. I always thought a simple green screen would be the perfect background for almost any movie diorama these days.
  13. Nice work. Looking forward to "Cosmic Portal," "Manhattan Penthouse," and "Shawarma Delight." (Subtle hints.)
  14. This line has to be a success or Disney won't bother coming back to the Minimates brand like this again. Disney has tried other block figures before but hopefully we – the Minimates consumers – will be able to help push sales beyond expectations. This is a niche category in a very, very small market so while those expectations might be low, a quick sell-through at full retail will speak volumes about the popularity and future potential of this co-brand. I'd urge anyone who decides to purchase these to follow up with a correspondence to Disney Store with a brief review and a short wish list of what you'd like to see next. Marketing pros love that because it makes their jobs easier. But The Little Mermaid? Mermaid Ariel King Triton Ursula Flounder & Sebastian Ariel in Formal Gown Prince Eric in Dress Uniform Grimsby Max Prince Eric's ship w/ Sailor Eric Why not?
  15. I'm gonna say that it'll be next year about this time before we're able to buy Aliens and Lost in Space Minimates. Something about the development of these makes me think it's going to take longer – each for different reasons – but it'll be well worth the wait.
  16. I begrudgingly bought both 4-packs and 2-packs the first couple times but when Mummy and Hunchback came around, I decided to only buy the TRU exclusives and wait for the 4-packs. (Of course I was one of the collectors scrambling when it was announced the Mummy 4-pack wasn't coming out after all.) I'm with monkyecrumb. Those are all good suggestions if DST decides to (hopefully) revisit the line. Stands that look like headstones – perhaps with interlocking bases – could be cool.
  17. We need a third boxed set: Tiger Lily Slightly The Twins I'd also be up for a box of battle-damaged variants: Croc-attack Dr. Hook Smacked-around Tink Repeatedly-stabbed Peter Zombie-infected Wendy Actually, a whole undead line of these characters would be great. Kids love that stuff. I mean, seriously, who here isn't already thinking of turning Wendy into a creepy Walking Dead quick custom? And that ship looks nothing like The Jolly Roger. Authenticity isn't one of Disney's sticking points, apparently. It'll probably pass for the ship in The Little Mermaid, too, I suppose. Will Tink come with glitter? Why is Smee lurching to his left? Are these going to be scratch & sniff?
  18. I admire the lack of detail. It's more authentic to the source material. The reason there's no detail has got to be because it was never there in the first place. You have to remember that hand-drawn animation requires a limited amount of detail to facilitate the production. However there are other Disney properties that can offer more detail. The recent CG Tinker Bell videos have more characters with some pretty elaborate costumes. Live-action franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean or Tron could translate into some magnificent sculpted pieces and tampo'd bodies. I hope this first solicitation represents the tip of the iceberg in the relationship between DST and Disney and that we can get at least two such offerings a year.
  19. Actually, yeah. The Psychomagnathermic Slime Flow in Ghostbusters 2 was also referred to as "The River of Slime." So get on that!
  20. Yeah, screw Aliens. Bring on pics of the crew of the Jupiter 2, bitches!
  21. And that's why I can't stand Bryan Singer. This is one of the things that ruined Superman Returns. There'll be no such thing as "continuity" with him in charge. The final frames of Days of Future Past should reboot the whole X-franchise, jettisoning what doesn't work (sooo much) and keeping the little that does. Since Singer's such a huge Trekkie, maybe he'll borrow a page from JJ Abrams' book and end the film with an alternate – and more definitive – timeline. On the other hand I'm also hoping this movie is such a bomb that Fox lets Marvel have the rights back so THEY can do it right.
  22. Good luck doing that without it looking like a diaper. And thank you for your proper insertion of a hyphen. That comment could have been hilariously misinterpreted.
  23. Yeah, I caught that, too. I noticed his kneecaps were pretty exposed when his legs weren't bent and thought they'd been accidentally swapped during assembly. Then I noticed the tampo applications. (Argh.) The range of motion is improved a bit when you correct it but since the tampos are on the back, I'm keeping them as they were for display.
