Wave 2 Symbiote Spidey Variant Question

Hey folks,

Hoping some of you can help me with another question. The same eBay seller I got the Spider-Man Back in Black mini from sold me a Wave 2 Symbiote Spidey variant at a steal of a price. I got the mini in and he has the wrong hands. He came in with solid black hands (the stem of the hands are yellow) as opposed to the hands with the white patches and the black dot in the center. That got me to thinking I might have been scammed, but I couldn't tell from looking at him that anything was amiss other than his hands.

I contacted the seller and he told me he would give me a full refund but claimed it was a legit figure that he bought from someone he knew in China that had an insider at the manufacturing company. That's a great claim as there is no way to prove it, but I don't want to accuse the guy of anything, especially since I purchased another item from him that was legit.

Anyways, I was wondering if you guys could tell anything by looking at some photos of Spidey. I figure it's just a case of the guy losing the hands and hoping it would slide and no one would notice but thought I would ask. I know there have been cases of folks getting scammed in the past and I'm debating getting my refund or holding onto him and hoping I can land a pair of hands somewhere.

Thoughts?

Legit Spidey?

Well - he MAY have bought it from a guy in China & he may well believe that it is Legit . . . but you are right. The official release has the little white patches on the back of the hands to indicate the web shooters.

I guess what matters is what YOU think. Are you happy just having a Black suited Spidey in the style of the wave 2 variant to display and to look cool on your shelf. . . . or are you a 'collector' who wants to have the real thing & a reasonable facsimile wont do?

I have both - i have the 'real' one away in a box somewhere, but i have my 'fake' one (with the yellow hand stems) on Display with my Spidey variants & unless i went to the trouble of pulling him out and inspecting him, i'd never know that he wasn't really 'real'.

Something is amiss .

You bought this http://cgi.ebay.com/Marvel-Minimates-Symbi...=item3cb15c8f20 which clearly shows the hands are incorrect .

In the same bunch of auctions the seller sold this http://cgi.ebay.com/Marvel-Minimates-Wave-...=item3cb15c8fc9 which sold for $2 more & clearly shows the correct hands.

The first thing that I don't understand is that both items are described as 'new' yet both are loose ? New ain't loose.

A Wave 2 Symbiote differs from a Wave 2 Venom in two ways....hands & head...hands & head only.

Hands & head only.

Hands & head only.

Here's another of the remaining Minimate auctions from the same seller http://cgi.ebay.com/Marvel-Minimates-Symbi...=item3cb15c71c7

Get your refund ;)

I bought one just like that for a few bucks from a seller in China. I think they are factory rejects, as they aren't perfect. Everything else is perfect on mine, I just threw the hands from a BD Black Spidey on mine. It's not exactly the same, but close enough for me for only $3 :)

Not accurate to the original release, but at that price. . .I would just keep it. Like BS says, switch out the hands with the BNB version if you want to. I've had a few wave 2 Symbiote Spideys in my possession, and I believe all of them had a really loose hand or two anyway.

Yeah, that's the problem, the collector in me is coming out and he wants the legit Spidey Variant. I can't help it, the guy wants what he wants! That said, I'm pretty certain the head is legit and it was pretty cheap...Choices...

Hands & head only. Get your refund ;)
I know, I thought about trying to use my Venom mini's hands but couldn't bear Spidey with claws. In the auction I couldn't see his hands well enough (well played seller) to know they were wrong and since the other auction was for a legit figure I just assumed the other was the same and the guy was just offloading his collection. I know, I ASSumed... :(

That's what I'm debating. I want to return it on the principle of the thing because it isn't what it was advertised to be, but on the other, it was dirt cheap and everything else seems to be legit on him. I think I will end up returning him because now, thanks to Robbie the collector, I'm going to end up buying a SECOND one just to get the right hands. Why have two when I can put the money from this one towards buying a complete one.

Man, it isn't easy being this nerdcore.

I am that seller and they're new straight from the factory backdoor to me in a large lot of minimates. Likely defects as someone said. No scam no lies, I never claimed it's a wave 2 spider only that it was a symbiote spider-man.

I look forward to hearing if you decide to return it.

Nerdcore. . . .ha ha - love it!

I come up with a good one from time to time... B)

No worries man. I wasn't trying to falsely accuse you of anything, just asking others if the figure looked legit or not as I have read in a few places about people selling bogus Spidey Symbiote minimates. The mini looked legit to me so I chalked the missing hands up to just that, a hand getting lost along the way and replaced with some blank black ones. I didn't know there were some out there that were factory defects sans the white patch. I figured if anyone would know, it would be the folks here and I was right.

My apologies about your seller name coming up, I never intended to point any fingers or indicate you by name specifically but some of our fellow members are pretty good at scouring eBay. I appreciate you offering to refund it, but I'm going to hang onto him. As I said earlier, I got him at a great price and even without the hand patches he's in great shape. Thanks again man, sorry for your name getting brought up.
