TBT!
Ok folks just for fun I'm going to post a bunch of our pix (Hope DST doesn't mind cos techically they own these images now ) that were entered into the hunt. Before I do I'll ramble a bit about the whole experience. I'm amazed we got as much done as we did, we didn't really take it 'seriously' until fairly late on Friday but making it up as we went along seemed to fit our team style, in fact we only handed in our stuff a cool 9 minutes before the deadline with a quiet a few catagories not completed. We went into it hoping to put in a good show for the "Honor of the Multiverse" and ended up coming up as a winner (Karma perhaps?). To give you an idea of how serious we were about prizes... I've talked to both Shane and Nervous about it since Sunday and collectively we have no idea exactly what we've won , yeah the small chance of gold and silver mates were a nice motivator but at the end of the day we just had a lot of fun doing this. I think having a team rather than doing it on your own was the way to go, simply because half the fun was having one of the guys get a spark of an idea then the others running with it and you don't feel so stupid asking The Incredible Hulk to kiss a minimate when there are 2 guys ( plus one "team mascott") standing there with you!! ok enough Rambling and onto some of our more amusing Pix.... I'll give you the line from the Checklist then the pic, then comments. Before I start, just to prove you don't Monkey with Tradition... here's our own personal SDCC must do... Nervous with a Slave girl Princess Leia! Picture of your minimate getting a kiss from anyone who appeared in a TV show in the 70s,80s or 90s. Yep my second fave "look on Shanes face" moment was when he realised Nervous and I were serious about this pic and he had to ask 'The Hulk' to kiss a minimate... Watching Lou pucker up is something I will NEVER forget. Picture of your minimate in costume for the Masquerade Ball. We thought we'd just do the 'DST fanboy' on his own here but it was totally spur of the moment to throw in a bunch of extra people into this lineup and make it like a Ball, it's basically a bunch of Nervous's customs ( I tried so hard to get him to leave that spartan with me), some random QC/body parts I had lying around and in the middle a Hunt mate feet/head on a spiderman minimate. Picture of your minimate Behind a DST employee's back (they must not be Aware of the picture being taken) oops busted... BTW that's "DSTMatt" Then he turned his back to talk to the customer and was clueless we took a second bite at the cherry....Sucker!!!!! We also caught Donna from AA who was working the booth as a backup pic! Picture of you and your minimate Battling stomtrooper(s) ( +1 point for every additional storm trooper) Ok so this was the loophole we thought would give us an edge... sadly other teams also checked when the 501st Legion were having their pic taken. I still think that having seen other teams take pix our was the coolest cos we only have storm troopers in the pic and actually talked them into playing along with our game (The minimate is even holding a tiny lightsaber) not just took a snap of the group shot and ran like all the others did.... HUGE Kudos to the 501st for playing along with us while they were trying to get their own pictures done. Picture of your Minimate inside a Sushi Roll The real reason we gave our mate in at the end of the hunt... with getting people to kiss these and this sort of pic we weren't sad to see the lil feller be handed in ( BTW that's Ivan's pic above our actual minimate in sushi!) Picture of your minimate taking a Pedi-cab (person drawn carriage) with you. Cost of bribing the female Pedicab driver with the tiniest clothes we could find to let us take this pic $5 Shanes face when the pic was taken...... Priceless And again in closeup for those that missed it... This is my fave pic from the whole "hunt" This Post is going to end up horribly long so I'm going to stop now but we took well over a hundred pix for the "Hunt" but these are some of my personal highlights, not even the ones that got us points but the ones that were the most fun to take... Hope you enjoy these as much as we did taking them... T. p.s. The team name "Team Coy Totems and Idols" was picked because it's simple an anagram of "Diamond select toys" and I hate to pick team names... p.p.s Ignore the pic below... if you add a pic and then dont post it things get all funky... Shane any ideas on that one?
TBT!
I'm surprised that every one is being restrained and not teasing Shane about that pic... Are you guys really that scared of him T.
luke314pi
Shane was just looking down to make sure that the trailer hitch was functioning properly. Thanks for sharing the pics BTW!

storm 1:08
So where is the minimate in the picture? I hope Shane's family doesn't come to the boards often. You got lots of explaining to do!
MINI_MYTE
I bet it was hard work doing the hunt and all, but it sure looked like a lot of fun.
TBT!
I bet it was hard work doing the hunt and all, but it sure looked like a lot of fun. Yep a lot work but if it was easy it wouldn't have been fun. BTW Despite the rumors circulating about not getting to keep your mate, when we handed in our completed hunt it really didn't take a lot to talk DST out of a bagged 'huntmate' as a souvenir, everyone in my team got one. Rad
Superb!!! Good work guys. Shane, you looked so worried getting that pic with DST Matt Sad geeko here has to admit that when he looked at that pic of Shane staring at the chick's arse... I'm checking out the front light (on the handlebars... The Handlebars!) cos it's the same as the one on my bike! I'm resisting posting the expletives here. So I'll just say I'm insanely jealous while at the same time am happy you lot had such a great time.
Ivan
As has been said previously, I had a one man team for The Hunt. I didn't want to have to split any potential winnings so I went solo. Taking pictures of yourself holding a Minimate while making sure your T-Shirt is visible is not as easy as it may sound. Coming up with a team name was also a difficult task. Questionable Charisma, Tyranny Cylinder, and Critter Modulator were all strong contenders, but due to fatigue and a lack of faith in actually winning anything I ended up being named Space Monkey Alliance. Which sounds even more stupid when spoken aloud. I hit the contest pretty hard, a few photos Thursday night, a bunch more on Friday, and all of Saturday was used finishing up the Creative Challenges. On to the photos. Picture of your Minimate inside a sushi roll. It's been a long time, but apparently I can still use chopsticks. Who knew? Picture of you and your Minimate staring at someone in a strange costume. Apparently he didn't put any of those flyers on himself, he made the various booth workers apply them. Not surprisingly nothing had yet been applied to his pants. Picture of your Minimate beating up any other non-Minimate figure. I actually like Cuboyds, not as much as Minimates or Stikfas, but the balance of the two has a certain charm. Picture of a celebrity wearing your Minimate hunt T-Shirt. Harrison Ford is a celebrity, right? I have a feeling I might not have gotten credit for this one because it was a representation of Han Solo and not Harrison Ford. This was going to be my "Kiss From a 70s/80s/90s TV Star" until I realized the Big Screen Yoda is a master of, the Silver Screen not. Picture of your Minimate dressed in a Barbie beach theme. Here's a representation of most of the photos that I'm not showing here. A quick hack job to meet the requirements. I really wanted to put a lot of creativity into all the photos but the time restrictions made that very difficult. Picture of you and your Minimate battling Stormtroopers I thought this photo would lead me to victory. The 20 stormtroopers in there weren't enough unfortunately. There was probably a hundred in the box and I should have taken the time and spread them all out, but I figured 20 was enough. Picture of your Minimate at the monkey house of the San Diego Zoo. This is the photo that won for "Best Interpretation of a Challenge Requirement". I whipped this up from some "Visit San Diego" brouchures in the Convention Center lobby. Create a shoe-box sized Minimate living room diorama. Please excuse the crudity of this model, I didn't have time to build it to scale or to paint it. Since we had some advance notice on this Challenge and I had some extra foamcore lying around, I came up with this. I had wanted to replicate the living room from The Brady Bunch but since I wouldn't get any extra points for the effort, I went generic. Create a Minimate-style poster for any movie starting with the letter S. I had a lot of fun making this and it went over very well at the pub meetup. To tell the truth, I almost posted it here before I left for San Diego but I didn't want to tip my hand. All in all, I really enjoyed "The Hunt." Even though I didn't win Gold and Silver I still won a prize and had a good time making the effort. Most importantly The Hunt was the primary factor in getting me to go to SDCC this year. If I hadn't gone, I wouldn't have met all the great guys from the board. Hanging out at the pub is probably what I'll remember most from the convention... is that sad? Fujis
Omigod Ivan, you're not going to believe this but I created a "Show Girls" poster for the Hunt as well! Nice pics, btw! Love the diorama.
MINI_MYTE
Sweet pics Ivan. LOve the Showgirls poster as well as your living room diorama. Was it harder doing the "Hunt" alone? If you could do it again, would you have taken on a partner?

Amazing.JL
Nice pics Ivan, I feel shitty for not trying harder. I salute your efforts. Great Job!
Ivan
Thanks everyone. Was it harder doing the "Hunt" alone? If you could do it again, would you have taken on a partner? Well, I only have one reference point so I can't say which way is easier, but I think solo was the best way for me. It's just my nature to try and handle things myself. Timbo's point about being able to bounce ideas off your team members is right-on though. For example, one Creative Challenge was to turn in a Minimate-sized food item. Obviously they meant a chicken leg or a hamburger scaled down so that a Minimate could eat it. For some reason I interpreted the challenge to mean a human-edible food item roughly the size of a Minimate. So I turned in half a candy bar. (It was a 100 Grand bar, if anyone's curious.) If I had a teammate, they would have pointed out my silly interpretation and I wouldn't have had to figure out how to write my team number on a candy bar and prevent it from melting all over my kit. A question for everyone: Does anybody have a copy of The Hunt prize list? All the old DST links for the Hunt lead me to their homepage or an Invalid ArticleID. The news archive link also brings up a 404. The rules page still works, but that's about it.

Shanester
The Monkey House is great. I also like your living room diorama. I can't imagine doing those photos alone. :o
TBT!
Like the other guys, love some of those photo's and the monkey house rocks -I think we just left that one blank... I also agree with the amusing but 'workman like photo thing, there were so many things to do that doing them all 'well' in the space of time was tricky... I'd also have prefered more photo and less 'creative' challenges due to time constraints... A question for everyone: Does anybody have a copy of The Hunt prize list? All the old DST links for the Hunt lead me to their homepage or an Invalid ArticleID. The news archive link also brings up a 404. The rules page still works, but that's about it. I was wondering this too, it seemed that DST pulled that site awfully fast after the contest was over... I put it down to some semi random webwork after a few beers whilst they were here at SDCC T. TBT!
Hey Ivan, Let me know if you hear from DST... I've not heard a peep from them since the announcement at the show, I'm not stressing but it seems odd that they would go quiet after making a big fuss about the thing in advance. T.
