Bandwidth Exceed / Getting Pissed Off

Recommended Posts

Sorry about the bandwidth error thing for the past half hour

Gracias to "Mr Mystery" who just paid a ludicrous fee to make the site come back for the next two days.

However I do have one large snag that is fracking doing my head in right now.

Our inept domain registrar seems to be holding the .com address hostage, hes making no demands, he just doesnt want to do anything with it.

So while I do have a shiny new server of goodness waiting to be used (minus the board license that I still cant afford) I cant change the domain name to point to there.... so we're presently stuck with the server of lameness.

Umm...

Any ideas?

(I have just aqquired minimatesmultiverse.com but I REALLY dont want to change the URL)

Success aint all its cracked up to be folks

Yeeesh not good. Is there a higher power we can appeal to? There must be some kind of authority that polices the domain registrars?

Anyone?

None that I'm aware of Rad. Unfortunately, if the registrar is being a dick, there isn't much that can be done.

Ady - what do you mean by "he doesn't want to do anything with it"? He won't let you move to a different server?

4 months.

So I could always just wait for it to expire then re-reg it.... however another 4 months of having to overpay for bandwidth on this host will probably bankrupt everyone..

Although their is some vague hope:

"My registrar won't let me transfer my domain, what do I do?

If you're having trouble transferring your domain from one registrar to another, you should contact the registrar you want to transfer to for assistance. If your preferred registrar is having any trouble processing your transfer, your registrar can obtain assistance from ICANN or the registry operator as appropriate.

Registrars are not permitted to deny transfer requests arbitrarily. ICANN has no policy that permits or requires registrars to deny outgoing transfer requests solely because the registration is within X number of days before expiration. In any case where a "losing" registrar does deny a transfer request, it is required to provide the "gaining" registrar with a notice of the denial and a specific reason for the denial.

For your reference, the "Policy on Transfer of Sponsorship of Registrations Between Registrars" is set forth in Exhibit B to the Registry-Registrar Agreement. For details on updates to ICANN's transfer policies, please refer to <http://www.icann.org/transfers/>."

Although that sounds like it'll take over 4 months lol.

Im tired, Ill, and stressed. Please can I kill someone?

Dude, sorry to hear you're having these issues  It's kind of weird how these things aren't outlined very well. Hopefully it won't take you 4 months, as it seems no different than when you want to transfer your old phone number to your new phone number, Good luck though, I wish I could help. But I'm lucky I can type and send a message sometimes :P

Well, he does have those fresh new virgin mod's and since RAD is so close, all it would take is a few beers and... :whistling:

Dude, all I can say is, 4 months from now, make sure you have your domain re-registration on some sort of automatic. There are leeches and sharks out there just waiting to pounce on an expired domain name and then really hold it hostage for ridiculous sums. I've seen it happen to friends with personal domain names (nothing commercial involved), had to give up the name because they came in a day late and didn't want to pay the new "owner" thousands of dollars. *grrrr* It's all too easy for these dicks to do, what with scripting and what not.

In a world without hope, a single beacon of light shines the way through the darkness that is the internet. Coming this June, Shanester's Minimate Multiverse. It's not just a porn site, its minimate porn.

I just did a whois. I don't know if I can help, but the

Status: clientDeleteProhibited
  Status: clientTransferProhibited
  Status: clientUpdateProhibited

doesn't look good.

Normally, domain transfers are easy to pull off, but these guys seem to be real good at messing things up.

Sorry, bud.

Well theres a few outcomes:

1: We move to Minimatesmultiverse.com with the new host/registrar

However we'll loose a lot of linkage, our google rank and probably a load of people in the upheaval.

2: We wait it out and see what happens

However we are exceeding our bandwidth every month and its costing us an insane amount extra to keep the place here.

3: I bake a cake for JoeUSA.com

We get the domain back but he gets cake!

4: I give up

You all loose the site

Its really looking like #1 is the most ost effective and stable option, for the rest of the life time of MinimateMultiverse.com I can redirect traffic to Minimatesmultiverse.com via some crappy coding, but I'd really rather not loose our eastablished identity.

Educate me for I am fick!

What's causing us to exceed bandwidth? Is it page views? Posts?

You know, 3 could be an option. You can still run the site from Jail.
