A little over protective???

Recommended Posts

I like to play with my Minimates, which I know there are many on this site that do. I like to pose them, take their helmets on and off. I like to just move their parts. The problem I am having is when other people touch them. It freaks me out when other people come over to my house and start playing with them... much in the same manner that I do. I don't know if I am afraid that they will break them, or just the fact that someone else is touching my toys.

Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe I just need to join MM anonymous.

CR, I know what you're saying, but I only get like that when my younger relatives start to touch them. That creeps me out, especially when they start going for the variants....

yea, i keep all mine at work so my little girls don't get their hands on them. although, my oldest is starting to sort of collect them and she is pretty good about being gentle, but my 2 year old is a little rough. i have been contemplating bringing them home, but they will go up very high. at my last job my friends used to mess with me and hid them or knock them down, take them apart, repose them into sexual positions... at first it would really bother me, but then i got over it and played along.

BS

lol, I don't play with them and don't know of people that like them in my family. About the closet person that touches my mates is the cleaning last the office. :P

What is does do is irk me when they are out of place. <_< Luckily I should have a display case in post.

Yeah, I'm like that too, but about everything. So, I'm not sure if I can relate...or not. I'm pretty obsessive, just, overall, but especially with my Minimates. Finally, when my sister asked for the LAST TIME if she could touch mine, I bought her a Phoenix/New Wolverine 2-Pack. But she never plays with them. Sigh. But otherwise, I'm pretty much with Energy-Man's situation.

Your sister asked if she could touch yours........? :whistling: Must be from Arkansas. My strategy is not knowing anyone and living 1000 miles from all my friends and family so no one ever comes over and I don't have to worry. Problem solved!

Yeah, I have similar trouble with people messing with them too. I used to have a friend who would come over and 'snap' pennies at them to see how many he could knock over at once. Needless to stay he doesn't do that anymore, lol.

Well, did you shove those pennies up his nose or what?

Right now mine are still stuck in their cardboard/plastic prisons, so no one has played with them just yet. They tried to escape recently, as my Minimate box looked like it had imploded and there were Minimates and Palz everywhere  Of course now everytime I go into the room they act like nothing happened :P I would definately go with MPL's suggestion or put them in a collective prison like TBT's display, if it really bothers you ;) Good luck :D

I hear ya. My 4 year old nephew loves to look at my toy collection, but I don't like it so much when he wants to touch them. It's hard to explain to him that these are his uncle's collectibles and not for playing with.

My collection room is right across the hall from my son's third-floor bedroom. Occasionally he'll have friends over and I cringe at the prospect of them just peeking at it. I usually just get gaping mouths, an overall look of awe on their faces. They ask how much money it cost and I tell them it's not so much about that as it is about how long I've been collecting. Most of what's in my collection is several times older than they are. When they hear that they generally back away slowly and respectfully. I haven't had to pat anybody down yet when they leave.

I dont got no mini varients but my customs are special to me and if somone touches them there gettin the belt sander

Isnt that right Mr. PL

I get a lot of questions about why there's a belt sander next to the Minimate collection. Stupid, porn-crazed hobos.

Stupid, porn-crazed hobos come up with the best games for minimates.

Seriously though, the only person who ever takes an active interest in my minimate collection is my little brother. 19 years my junior, Jacob has become a bit of a collector/customizer too. Lacking the artistic skills and equipment to adequately create a new character, he usually resorts to part swaps and the occasional Sharpie to make people. Granted, his people are never based off of actual characters and they all seem to have the same powers ("all the powers except for Wolverine's"), but he tries. He's just now gotten to the point where he'll stop destroying the figures I give him and instead use the spare parts he's acquired through me, meaning his collection has, in tact, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Powerhouse Thing, Racer X, Sandman, Ben Reilly, the New Avengers 4 pack, the Astonishing X-Men 4-pack, Beast, Kitty Pride, Ghost Rider, and Daredevil. I could hammer off quite the list on destroyed characters he has, including the exclusive Punisher, plus custom Shocker, Hobgoblin, and Scarlet Spider. He almost got a Symbiote Spider-Man, but I second guessed myself and ended up selling the extra figure to Logan (here's hoping he took better care of it  )

As for my collection, he knows that some figures are more important than others and thus he knows which ones to take care of and which ones he can go to town on in a good ol' fashion minimate beatdown. Variants and customs are handled more gently by his 6 year old hands, while newer releases and wide release figures can handle his style of fighting. I do cringe a little when I see him slam two minimates together, but deep down, I know there's no damage he can do that I can't fix and that I never planned on selling any of the ones he plays with for profit, so there's no harm.

I received my first commissioned order this past week, from Jacob of course, for a minimate Danny Phantom. I still have to clear coat the figure then take a picture before giving it to him, but part of me wonders if it'll survive the test of time.

He'll love it. That will survive the test of time.

Back in the day when I was discovering the joys of Stikfas, my son asked me to customize an Obsidian figure for him. It's still half-done after years of sitting in my tool box. Once in a while he asks me about it, as much to tease me as anything but I regret not finishing it when he wanted it most.

Yeah, when he specifically asked me for it, I told him he'd have to take care of it and not take it apart like he does some of his other figures, pretty much give him the same rules that apply to my own customs, so I'm sure it will ultimately survive life with Jacob. I even put a little extra work into it just for him. He features sculpted hair, a new painted face (I generally reuse faces if I can help it, but Danny features the more cartoonish eyes and mouth), and a sculpted accessory: an interchangeable ghost tail. I was going to green tint some Iron Fist chi accessories for his ghost powers, but figured those would ultimately get lost several times, plus Iron Fist is hard to come by.

I'd love to see the Obsidian figure you're working on if you ever finish it.
