  1. It's still hideous (another JRJR creation), just a lot more useful than it would otherwise be. Here's a link to the design sheets for anyone who'd like to refresh their memories.
  2. Yikes those are some pretty awful costumes. I think John Cassaday did such a good job redesigning the costumes in Astonishing X-Men. He kept what made the costumes iconic while giving them a modern look. I'd agree with you there, his costumes for Cyclops, Wolverine, and Colossus (granted it's only a tweaked costume) are my favorite looks for those characters. I'm not sure how many of the new costumes are his work though. Maybe Scarlet Witch, Havok, and Rogue?
  3. The ML articulation is definitely better, but the MU figure is pretty close so you could probably get most of the poses you want out of it. The real difference is the awful MU hips.
  4. If nothing else that suggests characters will be included who weren't featured on the initial promo art or the first round of covers... which leaves it open to pretty much anyone. Interesting.
  5. With Cap, Thor, Hulk, Spider-man, and Iron Man all having new (awful) costumes, most of the lineup doesn't seem too hard to guess. I'd imagine that's why the discussion has veered off into totally unrelated territory.
  6. After seeing some preview art for the new Iron Man series, I'm completely convinced we're going to see the new Iron Man in this wave. Not that I'm going out on a limb making that prediction, but the new armor is obviously very heavily influenced (and by "influenced" I mean "traced from stills") by the movie versions. Put a new chest piece on the IM2 Iron Man minimate and you're done. That seems too easy to pass up.
  7. I have a soft spot for 90's costumes, but I have to agree that the X-Factor outfits are especially bad. However, Strong Guy was, and is, awesome. Isn't it about time for an X-Factor Appreciation thread?
  8. According to Bleeding Cool this deal doesn't include distribution rights for the OT or the prequels, they're still under Fox, who do whatever Lucas wants. They spent $4 billion and didn't get the rights to the movies? Madness.
  9. Finally got this wave yesterday. I have to agree with the overall sentiment that the wave is excellent, with one exception: Colossus. He's better in-hand than I expected from the photos, but the proportions are still definitely off. I think a crotch piece and larger boots would have went a long way towards fixing those problems. I wonder if something like that was cut back so that we could get the parts for both looks?
  10. Another thought: Lucas was too stubborn to release the original version of the OT on blu-ray. Disney likes money. Seems like an easy way to cash in right there.
  11. I've lost a lot of interest in Star Wars over the past few years, but I'm fascinated by the idea of a Star Wars movie that doesn't have Lucas as a writer, director, or producer.
  12. I agree that you shouldn't need to modify any new figure to make it right, but I prefer that to an issue I can't do anything about, like fat Colossus from Wave 47. For those unhappy with the boots, here's Iron Man with the boots from the Avengers version (also a Stark head and movie open mask):
  13. Seems to me they should have gone with a boot/shin piece like the Avengers movie Iron Man instead of just the foot piece we ended up with. Swapping those pieces might solve the proportion issue.
  14. I'm going to have to disagree here; even with the leg socket issues this is my favorite Iron Man outside of Hulkbuster. I think it captures the look of the comic art very accurately. It's not going to be much good for playing with, but I can get mine to stand or stay on a flight stand so it's good enough for my purposes.
  15. I think it's supposed to be a shiny, non-bulky updated version of Extremis. I've heard others say it's supposed to be the version he had right before, but there's not enough yellow in the legs and the details are different. I was curious so I pulled out my copy of Iron Man: Extremis and I would say the 'mate is a very close match to the armor Tony wore at the beginning of the story and not the Extremis armor itself. The details on the helmet, gloves, and upper legs all seem to be based on Granov's art from the first few issues. I'm actually pretty impressed by this since I expected another kit-bashed Iron Man. It's a shame the sockets on the legs are so shallow that the legs fall off easily, otherwise this would be a really fantastic minimate.
  16. As long as they pack them together so they can be ignored I'll be happy.
  17. Since I didn't see one posted, here's a pic of Odin with BRB's boots: I think it helps a lot, even if the gold doesn't quite match 100%. The figure still seems a bit lacking. Arms and leg swaps might help, but the armor could really use something. Maybe some paint?
  18. This whole Marvel Now! thing has to be a joke, right? They couldn't possibly have made a serious effort and designed this many bad costumes. It's like a parody of the 90s.
  19. I usually enjoy having some new costumes in the mix for minimates, but I haven't seen anything I like from Now! so far. It's killing my interest in comics and merchandise, so I hope DST doesn't jump on the new looks too quick.
  20. The new Thor is great but I think I liked the helmet on the old one better. Doesn't look like the old helmet will fit on the new figure because of the cape though.
  21. Before Avengers I would have been very skeptical of this, but now I think they might have a chance to pull it off successfully. I am curious to see how they bring the team together since there's been no Annihilation in the movie universe. Maybe a Star-Lord origin story?
  22. I'm more excited for Nova Corp army builders than any we've had besides modern Madrox. It also gives us a way to get a classic Rich Rider. I don't buy the crazy numbers of army builders that some here do but I'm definitely picking up a bunch of these.
  23. I urge DST not to hurry on those Marvel Now designs, maybe they'll just go away if we all ignore them.
  24. It looks like anything that doesn't have a picture loaded on TRU's site isn't loading correctly.
  25. I get this, and don't even mind in theory, but I wish they could come up with some variants that I'd be interested in actually buying. You'd think if an artist had a chance to redesign Thor, Cap, or Iron Man they would bring their "A" game.
