  1. Actually I believe that Will Eisner's estate ownes the rights to the Spirit. DC licensed the character to do the new comics and signed a distribution deal to rerelease the old Spirit newspaper strips. The older strips have been published by several publishers over the years (Harvey Comics, Warren, Kitchen Sink Press, DC, etc.).
  2. There in, I think, lies the problem. Any line that fails to attract casual-buyers most likely isn't going to last too long. Around series 3 BSG mates started to look a lot like the Ghost Rider or 24 Minimates, in other words just regular folks in regular clothes. That's not to say that these lines were bad, but they were just kind of unexciting to someone looking for a cool toy.
  3. The Final Battle T-1000 looks um...interesting, hopefully he comes with a regular Minimate torso to swap out and a non shocked face as well. Other than that the figures look great. I'll be buying these figures in hopes that DST makes non-silver T-1000 motorcycle cop at some point in a future series.
  4. Besides Starro, I highly recomend the Heroclix Anti-Monitor as well... I have one of the Heroclix Sentinels and from what I remember they have two sets of swappable hands (fists and open) but besides being able to rotate the hands that’s it for articulation. To me the Sentinel is too small (5 inches maybe) and because of the pose has a tendency to lean. Mine is only held by glue on one foot. I’ll try to take a pic of the Sentinel with Minimates this weekend.
  5. Starro is really cool, well worth the price...
  6. It's funny, I started picking up LEGO sets because they went so well with Minimates. I enjoy building ships and sets for my DC Mates to battle in. Not only will the holes in a Minimates' foot fit a LEGO peg but a lego hand will fit in a Mate's arm allowing them to hold LEGO accessories, and LEGO backpacks and air tanks will also fit on Minimates.
  7. Even at that price I only bought one set. It's too bad that they didn't release series 5 or 6 before 4.
  8. I bought the first couple of series of this line when it was made of Cylons, flight suits, and Army and Navy outfits. Those had very nice crossover appeal. The later series just seemed kind of bland in comparison.
  9. I have all of the DC Mates and multiples of some and I haven't any problems except some slightly sloppy paint from time to time. Overall I haven't had too many problems with Minimates in general. The only Mates that I had problems with (besides paint) were... ...stuck joints on a Storm I bought at Target (cured by a trip to the freezer) and stuck joints on the Marvel Zombies box set (no freezer time needed but I was nervous working the joints loose)...loose joints on the Avengers wave (that and hair pieces didn't want to stay on)...and a extreemly warped knee joint on an Ult Green Goblin I bought online.
  10. I love these flight stands, it was a very nice suprise to get two of them in the Iron Man box set and the clear one that came with the IM movie TRU set is my favorite so far. I hope DST keeps puting these in sets and keeps making them in different colors. One can never have enough flight stands.
  11. If the Brain and Mallah comes out looking a lot better than what the rest of the DCIH line has I might pick them up (to this point though I have close to zero interest in DCIH). This line is pretty disappointing when compared to what Hasbro is doing with their small figure lines.
  12. What an awful ordeal TRU was today, I've never seen such mass misery or human herding in such a small space. I went to two TRUs and both times I waded through a sea of shopping carts and baby buggies for ten minutes just to get back to the shelves to find no Minimates.
  13. I hope we're getting a non-silver motorcycle cop at some point. I could use several of those to police my Minimate shelf.
  14. What happened to your Wii? How did it die? I saw on one of the Black Friday sites that Dell.com has a simular bundle priced at $250 with free shipping. Might be worth a look.
  15. I'd like... the Falcon Mr. Sinister Captain Britain Scorpion Kang Yellow Jacket The Swordsman Winter Soldier Avalanche Pyro The Vulture Sunfire Baron Zemo The Bettle Beta Ray Bill Black Knight The Living Monolith Hulk Buster Iron Man Thor Buster Iron Man A Nightcrawler redo The Green Goblin redo that DST showed sometime back (supprised he didn't take Venom's place in up coming wave)
  16. For those that don't have Venom *raises hand* BBTS is taking pre-orders for him. They have him listed as coming out in September.
  17. DC Mates news for me, I'll buy any and all that they make. They are, no foolin' my favorite toy line and the only toy line that I pre-ordered every single series and set. Whether DCD makes boxsets work or DST gets the license, they've got my money.
  18. SDCC Iron Man is now up on Hasbro's site (click the exclusives link, or do a search for Mighty Muggs) for $15. If you use the code SPRREQ8 it will save 10% off the price. The site kept posting errors as I tried to checkout but I was eventually able to complete the order.
  19. Hoozah! Viva la DC Minimates!
  20. Red Skull and Thanos are really cool, I love all of the detail on the figures. Anyone know if the movie Iron Man is going to go up for pre-order?
  21. I was in Wal-Mart today and found 1 Iron Man, 1 Doc Doom, 2 Caps, and about 10 Hulks. I have no idea how they had that many Hulks and so few of everyone else but I bought one of them and one of the Captain Americas. Overall they're pretty nice but I did have a couple of nit-pics...I was a little surprised that the red and blue on Cap's uniform was painted so dark, it's a little strange to see his gloves and boots not match his shield. Dr. Doom was also painted much darker than what I thought he would be, all of his colors seem to be of the same tone and just kind of blend together. I now just need to find the Thing and Venom.
  22. This whole thing is kind of strange and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this as a Superhero Squad type line seems to be something that Mattel should be doing. It seems that a totally kid orientated figure line is going to be a tough sell if it is sold only in comic book stores. I'm a bit dismayed that DCD seems to be constantly searching for the sales bump that comes with starting a new line as they will stop and start lines at the drop of a hat. As most companies try as hard as they can to keep a line going, DCD seems to grow bored as a series continues. I'm having trouble being excited with DCD anymore as they've killed off two of my favorite lines before the final series of the lines even came out. The final McG Super/Bats line was #1 in sales the month it came out but DCD had already made the decision months before that the line would end. Justice, one of DCD's longest running lines ended with only a handfull of figures left to make...what's up with that? I find it odd that a company that makes collectables for collectors constantly refuses to continue any of their lines.
  23. LEGO makes a silver surfboard that has foot pegs that works pretty well (though it does have a hole for a sail as well).
  24. Besides the series 19 and 20 variants my only other variant is diamond Emma
  25. The watchtower looks pretty good with the Minimates. Could you take a photo of the Javelin if you get a chance?
