  1. I'd rather get comic versions of Cyborg and Impulse/Kid Flash/whichever they pick personally, I don't know if Smallville has the same vibe that would translate to exciting figure property that a superhero film would, but if they want to make them I won't complain.
  2. Of everything minimate related I've gotten psyched about in recent weeks, this two pack is the most exciting to me. The most famous Spidey outfit yet to be made and one of his greatest and most underrated villains!! All we need now is Electro, Kraven and the Vulture a the Siniter Six will be complete. Thank you DST for giving us more new Spider-Man villains!!
  3. Cdubya's probably got a point, as I think the only reason DST wants to make movie mates at all is hopes of drawing in average customer as opposed to those who have been following the waves. The problem is that the X3 wave was nothing to write home sbout, and these are fairly uninteresting to the average eye and the movie they're based on was not nearly cool enough to make up for that. It's almost amusing, they made these hoping to draw in new customers, when it took DC Direct's mates to make them realize you make more money giving the fans what they want. If they'd released a wave of new comic characters instead of these I doubt they'd have any of the troubles getting them into stores these are having.
  4. I think it's a question of individual films, not the parent company. I mean that they have to buy each film's license individually, as opposed to in a package associated with the distributing company. If anyone has a different take feel free to contradict me, this is just the general impression I've gotten from past statements.
  5. Also, it's something DC can't really do, as there was a topic on that board about oversized figures, and aside from one or two there weren't very many options, and the two I saw the most were the Monitor and Giganta, who are not nearly as big namewise as Sentinels and Giant Man. Also I do think that the success of the DC line has made the Marvel guys rethink their approach, but it's also kind of annoying that it took someone else doing an impeccable job to make the Marvel guys realize that people want more diverse character selection and more villains, which is something that has been said by people on boards for YEARS. Better late than never, but one thing that still needs reworking is their release schedule. Constant delays are annoying, especially when the DC waves put out high quality product every two months practically like clockwork. At that rate they'll catch up to the number of Marvel waves in about two years.
  6. I think if we were to see any of the nineties style X-Men, it'd be Gambit and Beast. Gambit because that's more or less the same look he ahs always had, and Beast because that's still his most definitive look. I'm torn on those two, because either could be the variant for that wave, Gambit as Death or Beast as Dark Beast, and I'd love both of those. If I had to guess I'd say Dark Beast as he's coming back into the spotlight in the comics right now.
  7. I'm all for adding the Batman Beyond characters to the DCU, my only question is what they'd do with Terry McGinnis. The current Bat books have clearly set up Tim Drake as Batman's successor, over even Nightwing who wants the post. I'm curious what they'd do with the Terry character, if he'd be changed or if he'd be set up in a role to conflict with Tim Drake.
  8. Now that they've done a lot of the A-list heroes, I'm hopeful that we'll see more of the lesser known characters, and of course more villains. I hope that the success of the DC line will help that become a reality, but time will tell. I know we all crave more Wolverines and Spider-Men, but hopefully the Black Bolts and those like him will get their day in court.
  9. I was going to pick it up because I could use the civilians and I doubt we'll ever get a comic accurate Mephisto(you heard me, MEPHISTO, not Mephistopholes. The Bible can call him what it wants, I care about the comics...) and Blackheart, so I was willing to accept these, but the simple truth is the movie wasn't very good and they missed the best time to release them because DST seems to have trouble with setting dates. Not trying to pick anyone's scabs but DC Direct doesn't seem to have the same problems with their 'mates. Also, I don't feel that it worked for X3 either, out of all the characters in that movie they chose to release nothing but movie versions of people we already had. They could have at least given us something new, like Pyro who played a large part in the film, but nothing like that. I'm glad to see that it looks like we're getting back to comic based mates, and frankly I'm kind of annoyed at the attitude companies seem to take that we owe them something, "If you want these you better pre-order them." If the fans don't get a vote in what they release don't ask them to keep you afloat when you make mistakes. Don't get me wrong, I love 'mates and would have bought these for the above listed reasons, but the fact that average comic shop owner isn't leaping to order these is no surprise and maybe that's the message that needs to be sent, give the customer what they want.
  10. I'm completely in favor of a wave like Additup mentioned, bring them on. Also, as much as it annoys me at times that Bendis' favorite characters get shoved into the limelight(whether they warrant it or not), we need an Echo to complete the New Avengers. Not that I really find the character that interesting, but she's the only member who has yet to be announced, while we still need Ares and Black Widow for their Mighty counterparts.
  11. You could do a Chamber where he has the thing wrapped around his mouth with an attatchable "power blast," but I don't know how you'd get around the no mouth thing if they tried to do one sans bandana.
  12. Well to update my old list since a lot of them ahve now been made, I decided I'd replace anyone who is being made, and maybe reevaluate the list. Also I thought I'd throw in a dream two pack or two of characters that are unlikely to be made anytime soon, but would make sense to me. Anyway.... The New Top 10: *Hobgoblin *Kaine *Pyro *Multiple Man *Xorn(with removable mask to reveal Magneto head) *Toad *Gambit *Baron Zemo *Winter Soldier *Electro Spider-Man/Wolverine Variants: *Scarlet Spider * Age of Apocalypse Wolverine(with hand and alternate stump cover) Dream Two Packs: Speedball/Penance Kaine/Scarlet Spider Winter Soldier/Bucky
  13. If they want to roll some of them into future waves that's fine by me, with Iron Sidey and Web Armor Spidey that's two more chances to get some villains out on the marketplace, since we'll never get an all villain pack or set. Maybe that Hobgoblin that's been on that poster since forever, or Electro. Or Kraven. Or Vulture. See where this is going?
  14. Hmm....every time I think I've got an idea how they pick the characters they throw a curve ball, but based on my amateurish guesses here's what I've got: Battle Damaged Aquaman/Black Manta Superman (Black suit)/Parasite or Doomsday Kyle Rayner/Sinestro Dr. Mid-Nite/Sandman (Not sure which versions) Mostly based on the idea that I hear DC Direct is planning to finish most of the teams they've started, and also that we haven't gotten a Superman variation recently, and that Kyle Rayner, the second most [prolific Green Lantern has yet to be released along with a huge Green Lantern villain. Also it seems the battle damaged versions hit every other wave for the most part. I'm still a bit surprised that Mr. Freeze hasn't shown up considering how close he came to release in the C3 days, but with a bat villain showing up in wave 7 I think they'll wait on another one. Superboy almost made the cut as well but I'm still holding him back in hopes of my dream pack: Superboy/Superboy Prime.
  15. I definitely think comic oriented version of Ghost rider would have been a better move, it wouldn't have required a movie license since they already have the license for the characters they're based on, and frankly the movie versions of blackheart and Mephisto weren't very interesting villains. I mean, one is clearly supposed to be a devil-like character and the other is his son, and you can't make them frightening, much less evil? Weak. If they had released the comic versions they could have made some money off whoever liked the movie and picked them up while also satisfying people who like comic based mates. Just a thought....
  16. I have to disagree with the largeness for largeness' sake argument, if you look at this photo of Grodd ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla_Grodd ) you'll notice that he's about the same height as the flash, but he's also crouching under the weight fo what he's holding, so it only mkaes sense when standing up straight he'd be bigger, and Clayface, especially his animated counterpart that this mate seems based on is a behemoth, so it makes sense he'd be bigger. Also, kudos to the DC mate fans who have not been complaining that people can now get Flash and Nightwing, I've yet to hear one complaint that they are being released for everyone to get, whereas certain Marvel mates raise a great deal of gnashing of teeth when someone simply says "I wish I had one that didn't cost 50 odd dollars." But please don't start a debate on this topic, enough has been said elsewhere. I'm a little surprised that the Flash appears to be Wally, I thought that maybe to get around it they'd release Barry Allen in the similar suit to enable everyone to have a Flash without repeating the same C3 character, but as Nightwing is also coming out that doesn't appear to be a concern, which I think is a good thing. Honestly, I wouldn't mind them releasing a Barry Allen Flash or even a Bart Allen Flash, they're all different characters and that'd be a good way to get Flash's fairly large rogues gallery out over time.
  17. Wow, wasn't expecting to see this tonight.... Nightwing/Starfire: I finally get Nightwing....all is right with the world, and Starfire looks great too!! Grodd/Flash: I already have a Flash from the C3 line, but I'm glad everyone who missed him gets one now, and Grodd looks excellent!! Ambush Bug/Lobo: I have no idea who Ambush Bug even is, but bring him on, and Lobo looks awesome! Clayface/Batman: That Batman doesn't really do much for me, but who cares?? Major kudos for nailing one of Batman's strangest villains on a block figure, CLAYFACE!!!! I love both Marvel and DC mates, but I think I have to say DC has officially claimed the crown as the best in show.
  18. Exactly, and the few repeats we've gotten all made sense, and also gave us a great new villain. I'm referring to the Battle Damaged Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman of course. Personally, I'll buy every Battle Damaged hero they've got if they keep giving us new villains, which is the number one complaint I hear in ANY toy line these days. What are the heroes supposed to do if they have no one to smack around, discuss their 401ks?
  19. I hope they're not cancelled, not because I was really super psyched about these but because I hate to see smaller lines like this suffer any set back, even if it's not a critical one. Although if they are cancelled, I have to say I suspect it was the fact that no matter how much money the movie made, it was still considered pretty terrible by most people. I have only heard one person ever say anything positive about it, and the huge number of civilians also may have made retailers gun-shy. "The next wave of minimates will be a huge success, how many cases can we put you down for?" "What's the theme?" "The Ghost Rider movie!" "That was terrible, all my customers say so, why would they buy it?" "All the cool characters!" "Like who?" "Umm....two Ghost Riders, Mephisto, Blackheart.....an old guy with a shovel........and Eva Mendes............so how many cases can I put you down for?"
  20. I think both sides have their points, part of it is that now that DC is also releasing mates, and in somewhat more satisfying ways as far as release dates and character choices go, the Marvel line looks weak even though it's at a much stronger point than it has ever been. I think they're doing pretty well, although I do wish they'd do a few things differently. But if there's ever another ridiculous drought..........
  21. I can think of three reasons for that..... 1. Great character choices. 2. Consistent releases. 3. Quality accessories, with no skimping. If only the Marvel waves would take note....
  22. I'll definitely pick these up, although mostly to use the human characters as civilians more than anything, but whatever, the three waves after them I'm super excited about, so these will be a nice warm up to the better waves.
  23. Exactly, especially the Sinister Six because whenever the idea of a new box set comes up or people talk about villians that's usually one of the first suggestions, and by putting out a lot of villains at one whack they would even the sides a bit more and would finally be able to satiate a lot of the Spider-fans who have been clamoring for them since day one, it seems like they could dispel the lack of villains complaint with that one move but for some reason it has yet to happen. If they ever do release one though, I REALLY hope they replace Sandman with Hobgoblin so we can have both versions of the Sinister Six instead of YET ANOTHER Sandman.
  24. That'd be fine by me, I still think it was foolish to not pack Iron Man and some of his ilk in with their respective rivals. Really, how else is the Mandarin ever going to see the light of day?
  25. I remember seeing once in one of the Q & A's that DST said they don't plan to ever release an all villain wave, or even a two pack with only villains. The following will feature a question, followed by the same question as it appears in my head... Why, in a wave that will no doubt be hero heavy, would a villain two pack be a big deal? (You've got six slots, two villains won't kill the line!) As DST now seems to announce multiple waves at one time, often releasing them very quickly together, would an all villain wave really hurt the line? (This line is specialty market oriented, if Toybiz can make an all villain wave for mass market, you're out of excuses.) Sorry, kind of wandered a little in this one, but I really suspect this lack of villain thing isn't about market research but more what someone else prefers. You can't convince me that average shopper would be more excited about Patch Wolverine than a well done Spider-villain....
