  1. Just received my apoxie from Luke along with a couple other mates. Roger Rabbit is being worked on today and tomorrow. Should have them ready to go by middle of next week. In the meantime, I'm looking to complete the holes in my Fantastic Four collection. Since no one has a trenchcoat thing to spare and Kingpin is choking the pegs at both my TRU's I decided to make my own version. I still have to add his rock hands and fedora- along with his classic battle scar helmet to complete the look. Possibly paint the shirt white as well. I've also been gathering several pieces to complete Lyja. She's half finished...
  2. I just received mine as well. Keeping the razor hands/hook hand Venom and turning the bulked up Eddie into Carnage using the Ghostbusters Theater ghost's hands as his tendrill claws- along with using the She-Venom's transformation neck piece for some addded pop. I'll be putting the Flash Thompson Venom and the sans neck piece She-Venom up on the parts exchange thread- along with the bulked up Venom's chest piece. I removed it from my in the works Carnage as he wasn't the muscle bound brute than Eddie Brock was- just a skinny psychopath. If interested in either Flash Thompson or She-Venom, send me a PM. I won't be able to mail it however until January. X-mas funds sapped my budget this month.
  3. Great stuff from everyone, looking forward to more contests! Loved the anticipation.
  4. Shatterstars hairpiece would be perfect. I'm using it for my Lyja custom.
  5. I agree- the problem with adapting a comic or book to film is that you are switching media types. It's an entirely different experience. Add to the fire that there are hundreds of stories told about said character- every person has their own take on what would or wouldn't make a great story. That where the line in the sand is drawn. Movie vs. Story. A movie is meant to entertain. A story is what gets you there. Two very different things, yet also very similar. It reminds me of the old comic book debate- which is more important: Art or the story? I've read a lot of comics over the years and hands down it's story that ultimately wins. Take the recent Jim Lee 52 JLA for example. Great art to drool over, horrible story. Art provides a boost to keep you immersed in the story but what keeps the plot moving and holding your attention is more important. To Mister's point- Green Lantern wasn't what it should have been, but now kids and non fanboys know who Green Lantern is thanks to the movie: "oh yeah, that green guy with the ring who thinks of stuff and it appears". That's how the movie studios think unfortunately. "How can we market this? Sell this? Promote it?" There's very few fanboys turned executives in the WB offices (I could completely wrong on this). It's profits, not story that they are after... and yeah, if the movie blow they still make money and always can try again or if they don't like the direction it was headed do a reboot. As comic fans, we have a nearly unlimited resource (LCS) for stories of our favorite heroes. For the general public who don't know any better (kids mainly) accept what Hollywood gives them. I'm victim to it myself. As a child of the 80's I knew of the comic character Batman, but it didn't really click with me until I saw the movie with Keaton. Keaton was and is my Batman. Just like my friend who grew up in the 70's, Reeves is his Superman, not Routh, not Cavill. I'm glad they are even releasing another Superman movie. All bitching aside, remember years ago when we DIDN'T have an X-Men movie? How horrible was that? Remember Wizard's on going Casting Call section? "If only..." all of us thought. Then it happened. Imagine that movie didn't get made. Makes you think how much worse off we would have been.......maybe. Super hero movies will never be perfect- they can't be- but that's why we keep coming back- the carrot that's dangling in front of our noses always looks good when you're hungry for more.
  6. I'm more excited for Fantastic Four in 2015.
  7. I think my Jessica Rabbit will be amazing. Some out of the box thinking went into creating the custom. Running some tests now to make sure it'll work the way I want it too. Also making some variant pieces to the figures to reflect pivotal scenes in the movie and possibly some packaging as well. My top 3 80's influences as a kid were: 1. Real Ghostbusters (had all the toys including the firehouse) 2. Roger Rabbit (had all the pvc figures and flexies line from LJN) 3. Back to the Future (watched the VHS tapes until they were destroyed from multiple viewings) DST had GB and BTTF covered- but not Roger Rabbit. Thanks to the Captain America movie along with the release of the universal monsters minimates, I was able to find 1940's era parts and pieces that worked perfectly. Van Helsing makes the perfect Judge Doom with a little tweaks and hat. MAN, I can't wait to work on these.....that apoxie can't get here fast enough.
  8. I haven't read the book but I did look it up on Wikipedia. Quite the difference between the two: roger is a comic strip character who gets murdered, Jessica is more of a slut, and toons can only talk thru word balloons that appear over their head--then fall to the ground and litter the streets. Weird. I've also been researching the movie a bit more and was surprised to see a scene that Disney dropped because it was deemed too inappropriate. Eddie was originally supposed to visit Jessica at home and find her taking a bath. She grabs a towel and steps out of the tub approaching him....then the towel drops. Despite this missing scene as well as the pig head scene being cut I still adore this movie and can quote almost all if it to this day. I remember saving up my allowance and then heading to Kmart to buy the stuffed roger rabbit housed in he Benny the cab box. I'd play out the whole movie over the course of an afternoon throwing him around the house like Eddie did in the bar. Fun times. (; I'm expecting some apoxie this week for parts I need to sculpt but I should have all of them ready to go next week.
  9. SUCCESS! Glad I could help Captain. This is what the thread is for! Or you could even post suggestions for customs and I could see what I could come up with.
  10. That has to be the best fight yet. Well done. Still laughing. Would've liked to see Sue turn invisible at the end there and have Sunspot stand facing the camera in a confused pose- then have Sue reappear and finish him off.
  11. I'll have to finish up Ellis and Zoey from Left 4 Dead and post them here.
  12. Wow, 69 views and no responses. Here's a few more examples/ideas I thought of: Roberta, the robot secretary of the Fantastic Four: Carmen Sandiego: Gilligan and the Skipper:
  13. I hit up the TRU near my house and was suprised to see one Rick/zombie pack, zombie/zombie pack, 4 ghostbuster Janine/slimers and a few X-Men first class. There were several Kingpin/Daredevils as well. Minimates at TRU are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
  14. Roger Rabbit is my all time favorite movie. I'm looking at my in-progress set right now. Doom and Eddie are complete. Jessica (just cut the slit for her dress, decal is done) and Roger (need to paint) are up next. On the fence with how to do Baby Herman....ideas? I have something special in store for Benny the Cab.
  15. Love your poster. Think it's something Ivan should do for the Minimate database- a quick reference to see who's on what team--and who's left to be made.
  16. A snarf sized Carl isn't a bad idea.....
  17. Odds are we'll never see mini-minimates in the form of kids or midget style minimates...even after the DST reveal of the Father and Sons two packs that never saw the light of day. Any tips on how to make them? I can only think of cutting off a chunk of the legs.
  18. I've always wanted to see a thread in the form of a minimate think tank. Meaning a place where people could offer up their ideas to share with everyone. This would be different from the decal thread or individual's own custom threads. There's only so many minimate customs one can think up and in turn, create. But what about those missed opportunities? The "why didn't I think of that?" and "it'd be awesome if they made fill-in-blank". So I propose this thread to help. Still lost? Here's an example- I always thought the jacket from the zombie taxi driver from Ghostbusters would make for a great Captain Planet and the Planteer's jacket. Now, I'm not the biggest fan of CPATP so I never made them, but one of you might be and the thought never crossed your mind or maybe it has and you didn't know where to start. Now you have the recipe...along with this visual: So that's how this thread could work. Start off with something small like a jacket or hairpiece alongside the character in question you wish to custom and go from there. Or it could be an entire figure for that matter. Having looked at Ivan's site numerous times and my own personal collection to boot, I've had several ideas that never saw the light of day. Sound fun/interesting/terrible? Let me know. This is how I make all my customs- I start with an image, rake thru my collection for pieces that would make a great fit or hit up the Database (then the have/wants//part/exchange thread here or as a last resort ebay) and go from there. The more existing minimate parts I use the better.
  19. Has anyone else's Daredevil/Kingpin set had the impossible to remove by hand Daredevil mask as well?
  20. I've been noticing that as well. Over the course of Black Friday, various store shelves of tmnt merch was empty. Visited a tru today and saw the new tmnt Lego sets. Very cool.
  21. Love 'em! That's some great work there. The more random the character the better!
  22. I remember it too. Toyfare slowly began to replace Wizard as my go to for a good comic chuckle.
  23. Getting really excited for this. If Toyfare/Wizard was still around- I'd expect this to be in one of their issues. The time and effort you put into this really shows.
  24. Punisher, Please tell me you did the rest of the cast as well........ Awesome likenesses.
