  1. Awesome! This may be the first Minimate line I collect in-package as well as loose!
  2. I'm with TBT!, I just want to see new characters, no matter what the costumes are.
  3. I saw several 5-packs today at Suncast in Chula Vista, CA at $12.99.
  4. I just double checked, and my Green Arrow's left leg is indeed broken at the knee. Boo. Does anyone know an email address I can send a complaint to?
  5. The Lucasfilm quote is indeed intriguing. I'd love Star Wars Minimates, but perhaps what I'd love even more.... Indiana Jones. There's already so much Star Wars product around, but Indy is just begging to break out into the toy market.
  6. I'd definitely buy Heroes Minimates, and you've got some good ideas for all the main characters, JAG2045. However, I think the Minimate collecting world would be up in arms if EVERY two-pack had a chase variant! I hope Marvel's not reading this!
  7. Just trying something here: infection AHA! c o s t u m e = infection!
  8. I picked up one of these at only $15 with US shipping: http://masterreplicas.com//store/star_wars..._replicas/8512/ It works really well for displaying mini-zombies. The only drawback is the big Star Wars label across the bottom. I've considered printing off a generic mini-zombies logo on a black background and gluing it down over the SW label, just haven't gotten around to it. EDIT: whoah, looks like there's some Halloween hijinx going on! When I type m i n i m a t e s it comes up as m i n i z o m b i e s!
  9. I won't be buying the theatrical version of Spider-Man 3. I loved the first one and maintain that 2 is one of the best films ever made, period. But, the third one is just a mess. I really hope Raimi gets to release a longer cut that allows for more character development, particularly with the villains. There is SO MUCH going on in that film; it needs an epic runtime to handle its epic story. My alternate wish would be for a cut that doesn't have Venom in it at all, but I know that ain't gonna happen!
  10. Thank you Rad, I appreciate knowing that my comments are being heard. I think I've spoken my mind on this subject. Even if there was a glitch in the system and each new comment showed up as a new thread, I'd still stick around because of the great and generous members here. I'm glad to be a part of this community!
  11. Sigh... OK, here I go. This is going to be a rant, so pop some popcorn and get comfortable! The rash of threads about release dates has continued unabated. On the first page of the TV & Movie forum, We now have FIVE threads with the words "this week" in the thread title: 24 Minimates this week? Anything out this week? ST Wave 2 Minimates this week? 24 Series 1 and BTTF this week ... and the most recent: Rocky 2 Minimates - This Week? Some of these threads are short, some are long, and some have become the de facto threads for discussing their product lines, in lieu of other, established threads. To add to the confusion, we even have threads that discuss TWO product lines: 24 Series 1 and BTTF this week , and Star Trek and BSG2 Minimates Today, and Back to the Future and '24' packaged shots at DST's Myspace page. Folks, it just doesn't make sense to post a thread about release dates. Most of these threads include the question, "Does anyone know when Product X is out?" No one EVER knows exactly when a product makes it into stores until it's ACTUALLY IN STORES. Release dates get moved up or back, delivery trucks get delayed, and so on. And once someone DOES find a new release in stores, you can be guaranteed they will be posting on here within hours, and usually with pics, too. Furthermore, it makes no sense to include the phrase "this week" in a thread title. Three weeks after the thread goes up, it's still got that "this week" in the title. One quick glance at the forum would make someone think that about 19 different products were all released in the last 7 days! I realize you can see when the thread was first posted, but that doesn't make the forum any easier to use. We've been getting several new users to our forum, which is a fantastic thing. I welcome all fresh faces around here. I suspect some of these might be new to online forums as well, and it's these people I feel bad for with regards to our thread organization. It's enough of a hurdle to master online etiquette, let alone having to wade through multiple threads about the same topic. Some have pointed out that it's easier for new users to ask a question than read through a dozen threads to find out what they want to know. Well, that's true. However, new users ought to expect to do a little research about their new hobby before blasting away with questions. But, why not make it easier for our new members! Wouldn't it be great for everybody if we had all our discussion about Product X in one thread? A collectibles discussion board is much more than a place to find out when the latest releases are out. At its best, it is a repository for the entire history of collecting a certain product. In ONE well organized thread, you can read about when the first pics were released, what people planned on doing with the new parts, when the toys finally hit stores, what people thought of the paint apps, etc. This is how it's supposed to work. Now I'd like to point out one thread that has been working like a dream: the For A Few Dollars More box set. All discussion about this product is contained in this one thread. There's a nice big image of the product on the very first post - a classy touch, and very helpful for new users. The title of the thread clearly states what the thread is about (and notice there's no mention of release dates!) And, people have been posting their comments about this product only in this thread. I sincerely hope the FAFDM thread continues to be the only thread used to discuss this product. But I GUARANTEE you that as soon as someone posts a "When is FAFDM set in stores?" thread, the conversation will be derailed. I realize when someone has some important information about a product, they want to get it out to people, and that's great. That's what the whole Interwebs are for! But we've all got to realize that posting to an existing thread brings that thread to the top and puts a handy little orange box beside it. This calls just as much attention to the issue as posting an actual new thread does. May I also strongly recommend using the "View New Posts" link in the top banner, just to the right of My Controls. It's the most useful tool on this forum! I know I've harped on this issue a lot lately. I hope I haven't offended anyone. I know everyone wants to know when the latest releases are out in stores, and you can count me in that group! The user TBT! has suggested, and I wholeheartedly agree, we ought to have one pinned thread where people can post their latest finds. Not in-depth reviews, mind you, just a quick "Hey, I saw DC Wave 6 at Comic Shop X in Chicago!" I've seen this system work great on other boards, and I am confident it can work here. But the flip side of this is that we need some real thread enforcement. When someone posts a thread that just asks when Product X is released, a mod ought to lock the thread and politely ask that the user check the releases thread, and continue discussion in the established Product X thread. I realize no one wants to be the 'bad guy' and lock threads left and right, but there has to be some kind of guidance on this forum, for the good of us all. Well, I've written a small novel, so before my fingers fall off, I'll sign off. Long live MMMV!
  12. Hey, did anyone notice tonight's Heroes episode mentioned June 14, 2008? I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it, but apparently on that show some major event is scheduled to happen on the first Minimate Day! I'm sure there's a direct correlation.
  13. You've finally found the Castor-Greased Tar Cream? Faster Squeezed Car Gleam? Lasting Fleeced Guitar Screen?
  14. I would imagine every shop is a little different, and the only way to know would be to call your local place. If they know you, you might have them call you back when they get in new Minimates.
  15. I'll chime in here. I think sculpted heads are just fine, as long as they retain the basic cylinder style of the standard head. Two great examples are The Leader and the recent Doc Brown. To me, there's not much difference between a sculpted head and a standard head with a new sculpted hat/hairpiece. ... that is, EXCEPT for the upcoming Salakk, the 4-armed-pterodactyl Green Lantern thing. Now this is a freaky figure to begin with, but here they have just given us a straight up action figure style sculpted head. Along with Clayface, I wish AA would tone it back just enough so that you can recognize a cylindrical head on the figure. Now, I do LIKE these figures, and I'll gladly buy them, I just think the designs are pushing too far away from the block figure style. But even more than the issue of sculpted heads, I am bothered by sculpted torsos. It first started with BSG's sculpted blue uniforms. I always thought this uniform would be better realized as paint apps. Then we get into the second wave of BTTF. I just don't see how black-leather-jacket Marty needs a sculpted chestpiece, or even Future Marty for that matter. When I saw the sculpted muscles on Smart Hulk and the uber-detailed Gorilla Grodd.... well, I just don't know. It's not that I dislike the figures, I just can't reconcile them visually with the entirety of the rest of my collection. Damn me for being so nitpicky! Just look to Star Trek as a new line that has wholly embraced the classic Minimate style, while also providing just enough paint detail to match the modern 'mates. You can easily stand Kirk next to 1st release Spidey or BTTF guys (but not both together!), and nothing looks out of place. Maybe I just need to admit to myself that my beloved Minimates are growing up. Perhaps the days of simple, elegant comic character designs are behind us. Fujis noted the change with the X3 wave (http://minimateheadquarters.com/blog/2007/08/07/disparate-marvels/), and I can't disagree with him.
  16. Dear DST, I'm very impressed with the Minimate-styled movie poster artwork. 1. Is there a chance we could see these released as high-quality 3x5" postcards? I think they would make terrific display items along with their accompanying Minimates. A complete set of these could make a great contest giveaway or low-cost internet exclusive. Also, I'd love to see them in Minimate-scale postage stamp sizes, too! 2. Why does the back of the BTTF box have the artwork for the BTTF 2 movie (sans "Part 2" arrow)? Will we see the Part 3 artwork on the back of the second box set, and the Part 1 artwork on the back of the third set? Thanks!
  17. Sweet, I am jumping on them first chance I get!
  18. I think a pinned "what's out this week" or "latest finds" thread would definitely be useful. Mods?
  19. But even those shipping lists could be incorrect. The simple fact of collecting is that no one knows when anything will be released until they actually see it in a store. And when they do see it, you can be sure that an enthusiastic board member here will be quick to post about their new find. Lobsterman, I don't want to discourage your enthusiasm for Minimates, as I love the little guys as much as you. But BannersID is right, this thread is not necessary.
  20. Welcome to the boards! Perhaps you would know who would win in a fight: Santa Claus or The Martians?
  21. GAH! I was all set to order both of these, and now they are out of stock. Phooey.
  22. I agree with Dan. Or, if a new, better version of a character comes out, buy it and sell off or trade your older one. Also, may I suggest to tookytoo5 that you rename the title of this thread. I'd recommend: Wave 21 and 22 - Speculation or Wave 21 and 22 - Wish Lists
  23. Bring on Speedball and The Nth Man! Also Air Raiders, though that was a toy tie-in comic. These are the titles I remember from back when I collected comics, aside from the biggies like X-Men et al.
  24. Omendreamer, I think you'd just have to ask your insurance agency directly about this issue. There are a billion different insurance plans available, and you can get just about anything insured, if you want to spend the money. The fact that your dad took his baseball cards tells me that your policy doesn't cover collectibles, but I can't know that for sure!
  25. I'm not too crazy about making the Bombermate the mascot. I think the mascot ought to be a character that all members could have in their own collections, and the Bombermate is (almost) the most limited release ever. But also I am in favor of it being an original creation, so I came up with this idea: What if we designed a Frankenmate mascot? The Frankenmate would feature different swapped parts from all the potential Minimate lines released so far. For example, a Wolverine claw, Cylon leg, Rocky boxing glove, LOTR weapon, etc. Only part swapping would be allowed, which means even the most untalented customizers could put one together (I say this because I'm a terrible painter!). And preferably it would include only the more common parts - no Martian Manhunter heads! If we did this as a contest, we could all put in submissions and come to a consensus on what design we liked most. And then, with an agreed-upon Frankenmate 'recipe' we could all put one together with spare parts, and have our own Minimate Appreciation Day Mascot. Just my thoughts, and as Cappy says, there's no urgency at all here.
